Denise Hunter is still a new to me author but wow, this second book of A Riverbend Romance series is great! I didn't want to put the book down, constantly wanting to know what was going to happen next. I would suggest reading the first book in the series, Riverbend Gap, in order to follow along with the story and get to know the characters. Looking forward to reading the third book, Harvest Moon. Great books for anyone wanting to read a little bit about romance and imagine themselves near the Great Smoky Mountains.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Denise knows how to write a good romance and this one definitely was. She made Wes a wonderful hero and will make your heart ache with wanting him and Avery to find their way to each other.

But how will that happen? Wes is under a guilt trip that is taking him in the wrong direction. When and how would he wake up to what he really should be doing?

Avery has a made vow that makes a future with Wes seem impossible, even though she wants one.

If these questions make you want to read the book and you want to find the answers give this book a read and see what happens.

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I've been looking forward to this book ever since I finished the first book! I love the small town setting nestled along the Appalachian Trail. Avery's clinic and home is in the most picturesque place with a river running behind it. It just sounds so lovely.

Avery and Wes have a relationship that grows so naturally and fluidly. They were so comfortable with each other and I really felt that come through as a reader. Both Avery and Wes are battling some big challenges that require courage and heart. All I can say is thank goodness for good people in their lives, helping them to get to the right decisions to find happiness and peace. It was so easy to like both Avery and Wes. They are the kind of people I would like to be friends with.

This is a sweet, gentle story with strong, well defined characters.

And now I will not so patiently wait for book three because Avery's brother deserves such a happily ever after. I'm desperate for him to get it.

Content: kissing. Mild Christian elements.

Second book in the Riverbend series. Our hero (Wes) and heroine (Avery) of this story meet in shall we say an interesting way.

He was passed out and in need of medical care on her porch. Thankfully she is a doctor and knows what to do. Does this qualify as a meet cute?! Granted he looked anything but cute coming off an incredibly long hike across the Appalachian trail and sick.

In order to pay off his debt from his unexpected medical detour sticks around to work it off doing some work for Avery. And the rest you shall have to read to find out.

I will say that there are some great characters. A few avoidable misunderstandings. Some great interactions. And a journey to happily ever after that needs to be read.

We catch up with characters from the first book which is always interesting and fun in a series. This is no exception.

"But to Avery, Riverbend, nestled in its guardian mountains, was a safe haven from the rest of the world. She'd known she wanted to grow old here even before she'd realized she wanted to be a doctor. The people were friendly and quick to lend a hand. And the Robinson roots were deep here - five generations deep. She came from farmers and entrepreneurs, all devoted to this small mountain town. She was proud to carry on the family legacy."

The readers first met Avery in "Riverbend Gap," the first book in the series. She is portrayed as a capable doctor who provides tremendous assistance to her patients and community. In this book, we find out why she is so available and works so hard. Definitely an unexpected part of the plot.

One cannot help but like Wes. He is loyal to those he has invited into his life. Plus he wants to give back to show appreciation for his blessings. I am glad that he recognized that loyalty and support does not have to look a certain way. He also has a backstory that plays into the plot.

I liked the fact that Appalachian Trail again plays a part in the storyline. This one focuses more on the clinic then the community. But the Robinsons matter to the story again - Cooper and fiancée Katie return along with the parents, Lisa and Jeff. I am definitely looking forward to Gavin's story.

This was another enjoyable Denise Hunter book for me. Her writing is consistently good. While her characters are not perfect, they always show growth. And faith is another important element. I cannot help but get caught up in her stories.
I did read this book through NetGalley. I wanted to read and review it. All opinions are my own.

I enjoyed being back in Riverbend and with the Robinson family. Avery is such a great compassionate woman who carries a pretty heavy load. I enjoyed reading her story and getting to know her better. I can understand some of her thinking and struggle. Wes has his own struggles, trying to run away from his upbringing and fulfill a promise to a friend. These two had great chemistry. I loved how easy it was for their friendship to grow and when they got out of their own way, become something more.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley. These are my own thoughts and opinions.

Denise Hunter is an author I can always count on to deliver and clean, unforgettable romance that keeps me completely engaged from start to finish. Her latest, Mulberry Hollow, is no exception. The second in her Riverbend Romance series, Hunter has crafted a story that features Avery and Wes, two people struggling with personal demons all while seeking to make a difference in the world around them. The story moves swiftly, and the characters easily work their way into your heart. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next installment!

This book grabbed me by the heart. Avery Robinson is a dedicated doctor who has signed off on a future with love and her own family. She is terrified that she may carry the gene for the disease that took her mother's life. (I have a set of medical conditions that makes me understand where she is coming from.) Wes Garrett has a strong dedication to a vow to care for his friend's sister after the man sacrificed his life to save him. These two people are strongly dedicated to their intentions so when they cross each other's paths everything is up in the air.
Denise Hunter writes another beautiful and believable story. There is fear, tension, attraction, deep emotion and pure heartache in the telling. Her intense characters tell their stories with thought and action. She works what seems nothing but impossible into a touching, precious outcome. I loved it!
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley. This is my own personal opinion.

Mulberry Hollow is the second book in the Riverbend series by Denise Hunter. She has such a talent for writing unique storylines that tug at your heartstrings. Although it is book 2, they can be read as a stand alone. The story is heartwarming, charming and emotional and will keep you engaged and wanting more.

Set in the town of Riverbend Gap off the Appalachian Trail, the small town atmosphere and close knit community draws you in right from the start. Each of the main characters has a unique history and story to tell. Both having wounds that need healing. Wes, a contractor who is hiking the trail in honor of his friend who passed, has not only physical ailments that need healing but emotional scars as well. Avery, the towns workaholic doctor, is in need of help with the clinic and is carrying baggage of her own. They are an unlikely pair but through a series of events turn to each other for assistance and healing. The story is heartwarming, emotional and full of laughter and tears. If you are a fan of the tv series Hart of Dixie, this book will be one to pick up.

With a fifty percent chance of having inherited the disease that she watched kill her mum, Avery is determined not to marry or have kids. But when a sick hiker lands on her front doorstep, she begins to question that decision. Wes' friend gave his life to save him, and Wes takes his promise to care for his friend's sister - so much so that he plans to marry her after completing the Appalachian trail in his place. So when he finds himself falling for the doctor who nursed him back to health, he's sure giving in isn't an option. Can they each learn to look at things in a more balanced way in time to save what they might have had?

I've been looking forward to this book ever since I read book 1, and it didn't disappoint. I was pulled into the story from the first page and the story and the characters held my interest throughout. The family dynamics were interesting and enjoyable, though I'm glad my family respects my decisions more than Avery's did. I was thinking back over the story and what I particularly liked about it, and ended up deciding that I enjoyed the whole thing enough that there was really nothing particular to pinpoint. So definitely a good read, encouraging and inspiring. Note that although the books share characters, each can be enjoyed as standalone story. I'm definitely looking forward to Gavin's story - he sounds like an annoying brother but only because he cares, and he's had a rough time of things so far. Highly recommended.

I knew from the very first page this was going to be a book I could not put down. It is so beautifully written and had me feeling so many emotions.
Wes is a contractor and after losing a close friend, is trying to fulfill a promise to him. When he becomes ill, he shows up on Avery's doorstep. Fate? You can't help but believe it is. Avery is a very dedicated, hard working Dr. She is trying to grow her clinic but for now, has no time for a romance. But....when Mr. Right shows up, the heart knows what it wants.
So many heartwarming and touching moments in this book. Small town, cozy scenery. Friendships, family, devotion and caring people all kept me quickly turning the pages and held my attention throughout.
Denise Hunter has quickly become one of my favorite authors and any time I pick up one of her books, I know it is going to be memorable.
I was so fortunate to recieve a copy from NetGalley .

There's just something magical and romantic about the small town of Riverbend Gap in North Carolina.  I really enjoyed visiting and I was sad when it was time to leave.  I am so glad there is another book in the series.I especially liked this book about Wes, a contractor, who has been hiking the Appalachian Trail for two months to honor his friend.  It was interesting how he came to arrive in Riverbend Gap and on Avery's doorstep too.  He and Avery seemed like an unlikely pair since she is a doctor in the small town and Wes is just passing through on his way to Albany, New York.  I liked how they brought out the best in each other. It was funny how her brothers did not like him. This book was full of romance, heartache, family, sweet love, and wonderful characters that I really liked and will miss.  I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly choose to write an honest review.

Denise Hunter takes us back to Riverbend Gap in the second book of the series. This time, we get to know Avery Robinson: a small town doctor who has decided to remain single and childless due to the chance that she carries the same fatal disease that killed her mom. After nearly losing her father, Avery has become a workaholic, determined to never allow anyone in her town to go without medical care again. Wes Garrett, contractor, is hiking the Appalachian Trail in memory of the hero who died saving his life when he suddenly collapses on Avery's doorstep. When Wes volunteers to Avery's rundown cottage in return for the care he received, neither of them expects to fall in love despite the obstacles that stand in their way.

I absolutely loved Wes and Avery's story. Riverbend Gap sounds like the perfect small town, with close friends and family ties. I enjoyed getting to know the Robinson family better, and seeing Wes and Avery overcome the challenges they faced. As usual, Hunter kept her story centred around faith and family, while giving us an engaging, heartwarming love story. The plot line stayed realistic throughout, and the characters were relatable. All in all, it was an enjoyable read that kept me glued to the pages until the very end.

Mulberry Hollow easily received 5/5 stars from me, and I cannot wait to read the third book in the series when it releases. Anyone who enjoys a good contemporary romance won't want to miss this one.

"Mulberry Hollow" by Denise Hunter

My Assessment:

'Mulberry Hollow' was a thoroughly gratifying, heartwarming, and emotional story that will keep your attention as you turn the pages. Along with the main characters, some wonderful secondary characters are well-developed, defined, and memorable, giving the reader a good read from start to finish. And let's not leave out the cat, Boot, and the interactions between Wes and his over-protective step-brother of Avery. By the way, 'Mulberry Hollow' is a neighborhood in Riverbend Gap, just off the Appalachian Trail.

It was good getting to know Dr. Avery Robinson, a workaholic doctor dealing with her difficulties, secrets, and issues, while finding another doctor who would come to Riverbend, North Carolina, to help her in her medical clinic. While this is accruing, what will happen when Wes Garrett passes out at Avery's clinic door needing medical help? Why was Wes hiking the Appalachian Trail to honor his friend Landon, who had passed away, and promised to take care of his sister Lillian? Why does Wes end up working for Avery to refurbish her carriage house? In this beautiful story y, what were some heartbreaking decisions as they work through the pain Avery and Wes had to make while on this romantic journey? With Avery and Wes not looking for any relationship, what will happen when love finds a way? Be ready for a little bit of it all from 'laughter, tears, delight, and tenderness.'

You will have to pick up "Mulberry Hollow" and find out how well this author brings it all out for the readers, a beautiful read of sacrifice and love.

Thank you, Net Galley, and the publisher for the opportunity to read an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion of the read.

Denise Hunter has given us another great read. From the opening chapter where we get a glimpse of Wes Matthews and what's driving him to finish the Appalachian Trail in honor of his best friend, to the capable and dependable heroine, Avery, I was hooked.

Both Avery and Wes have a perception and a plan of how their life should look. It was interesting (and sometimes entertaining) to watch those plans go up in smoke. Isn't that how it always happens?

More than that, I loved watching the sparks fly and there was one particular scene that had me swooning and cheering in delight. I can't wait for book three. I have a feeling that's going to be a doozy in all the best ways.

3.5 stars
Very sweet book with a lot of heart.
The main characters are incredible people and I really liked them and was rooting for them, but by the end of the book I felt like I still didn't know them that well. The pace was a bit slow, but I enjoyed the setting. The main character's have had some major trauma in their lives and they are as selfless as they come. They maybe seemed too perfect or just not fleshed out enough. I can't quite put my finger on it. So, while I enjoyed the story and many of the ideas, it felt just a little underdeveloped.

Romance: very sweet and clean
Content warning: severe disease, death of loved ones, abandonment

I loved Mulberry Hollow by Denise Hunter. This is an author whose books I enjoy more and more with everyone of them that she writes. In this series there are bad things that happen to good people. Not only are they good people but ones who trust in the Lord. God is there with them but life is not without losses, heartache, and sorrow. However, this story is one of hope and the wisdom given is the kind that we all can use. I may have to use the two pennies when I am in want of giving advice. What a marvelous idea.

The characters are strong, pursing their own destiny, taking responsibility for the opportunities and life while also being willing to look to God for the guidance needed. Wes and Avery are characters that you feel as if you know and love, like old friends by the end of the book. You know that they belong together, reading on to be sure that they see that very idea too. I highly recommend this series especially Mulberry Hollow.

The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

I enjoyed by visit to Mulberry Hollow. The folks who live here are awesome. I got tickled at Gavin and Cooper when they would go in big brother mode. You can’t help but admire what Avery has accomplished in her life. What a wonderful, strong woman. I loved the story line and so enjoyed getting to know the folks of this town. I would definitely make a return trip. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.

Mulberry Hollow is the second book in Denise Hunter’s Riverbend series. Set in the fictional town of Riverbend Gap, NC, these stories revolve around the blended Robinson siblings. This story is about Dr. Avery Robinson, general physician and full time administrator of her small hometown clinic.

After a family celebration for her thirtieth birthday, Avery arrives back at her clinic, with her apartment above, to discover a very ill mountain man. A lone hiker of the nearby Appalachian Trail is on her doorstep, chills and fever apparent, and seeking help. Of course the only thing Avery can do is help him in to the clinic, take stock, and treat him. Luckily she has a hospital bed in one of her exam rooms and the equipment and supplies to take on the highly dehydrated hiker.

Wes Garrett has recently returned from a five year stint working for a corporation that creates and renovate shelters for immigrants in Columbia. During a terrorist attack on the workers his best friend Landon saves Wes’s life while sacrificing his own. The debt of gratitude Wes feels has taken a two part tract. He is completing the AT from where Landon had left off to it’s end in North Georgia in honor of his friend. He is also planning to settle in Albany, NY, to be available for Landon’s sister Lillian. Without a plan for his future, this plan is good enough.

In order to repay the good doctor for her healing him, they make a plan for Wes to use his skills to restore the carriage house behind the clinic so that Avery may use it as enticement to attract another doctor to her busy clinic. However, the time they spend together may just change future plans for them both.

This is another well plotted, beautifully written story by Denise Hunter. The characters are richly drawn and the location is picturesque in detail. I very much enjoyed this story and definitely recommend it and this series, even though the stories can stand alone.

Mulberry Hollow by Denise Hunter is the second in the Riverbend Romance Series, focusing on the blended Robinson family in a small town along the Appalachian Trail. This title can be read as a standalone, but it's worth reading the first book in my opinion. In the second novel, we follow Avery's story - an accomplished workaholic clinic doctor - as she faces an uncertain future and falls in love along the way.  It is unquestionably a wholesome romance with elements of faith woven into the plotline without being heavy-handed. Typical of the author's talents, it's an easy to read "clean" contemporary romance - heartwarming with notes of poignancy as Avery learns about living life to the fullest.
