Phillip PSA Gregory is one of my favorite authors. However, this was not a fun middle grade fantasy. The characters were hard to like, and the story was very slow moving. There was not enough action in the plot. Still, I recommend this for fans of Jessica Day George and Shannon Hale!
I was genuinely surprised how much I liked the book even though I'm sure I wasn't the target audience. The two stories in this book were really cute and sweet. It would be perfect for younger audience because they include animals and a royalty family. It was a good time and I highly recommend this book to children.
I received this book for free for an honest review from netgalley #netgalley
Adorable for 8-12 year olds
"Princess Florizella may live in a classic fairy-tale world, but she's no ordinary princess...
This third volume in The Princess Rules series sees the feisty princess take her baby brother and best friend, Bennett, on another round of adventures together.
Can they rescue their new-found friend the sea serpent from a travelling circus? And hold back the pirate, Five-fathom Freida. Or will Florizella's worst fairygodmother prove that in a fairytale world, you really do have to be careful what you wish for?..."
Have I mentioned lately how much I love that Philippa Gregory is doing kids books?
This is a fun princess tale that is perfect for elementary school age children.
My 3rd grade daughter read this book and really liked that there were two seperate stories. She also loved the characters and thought "Bear" was hilarious.
The illustrations are fantastic and added some additional humor to the book. We are excited to read more books in this series!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy of this ARC for an honest review.
Princess Florizella is back at it again. New adventures await with some old friends. Within this book you will find two daring adventures, one about true friendship and another about embracing who you are and appreciating what you have. In our first tale sea serpent decides that living in the palace moat is not right for him so he goes off to join the circus. Will the circus be the right fit for our princess eating friend, or will they learn that true friendship and love a re more important? In our second tale a daring pirate is out to get everything that Princess Florizella has. Can Florizella teach Five-fathom Freida that wanting what others have doesn't always turn out how you think it will or will Freida become the new princess?
Philippa Gregory is just such a fun author and I love that she has created a princess that is timeless. One that stands on her own and doesn't accept the normal rules that one would think apply to a princess. The just like the other two books in this series Philippa once more uses fantastic morals that really can be applied in anyone's life. And the fact that they are approached with daring adventures attached to them just make them more interesting and easier for kids to dive into. I am excited to recommend this book to adventure readers in the new year.
Thank you so much to Harper 360 and Netgalley for allowing me to read an advance copy.
This is a light hearted book, but it’s difficult to pick up and step in the world without having read the previous stories. The stories are a bit longer than I expected, based on the text and pictures. I expected more of a transitional reader approach, and the conflicts are not very high risk or “edge of your seat”. There are little interjections about telephones and screen time that adults will find humorous as they read along with their kids.
