This is book 3 and I haven't read 1 or 2, but I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading the rest in this series!
5 Stars.
*Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this in exchange for my own review*
This book was a lot of fun, it's a not-so serious special agent protecting a defector adding in meddling friends/family and co-workers.
The vibe very much fits the Charley Davidson/ First Grave on the Right series as it's serious issues covered in an over the top, humorous way.
I do suggest reading the others in the serious beforehand, I jumped the gun and the premise of the book had me hooked so I skipped the build up to a couple of events/people in the series. I didn't notice the missing events but I definitely feel I would have enjoyed the interactions more and been more invested.
Pros: Fun, far-fetched romp of a novel, with a fast-paced plot and lots of quirky side characters!
Cons: Seemed unclear that this was not a standalone novel, but part of a series, and as a result the character development fell rather flat for me, having not read others in the series. Other series I've read do a bit better at re-introducing the MC and supporting cast in each sequel.
A CIA language specialist has just bought a run-down, but charming, home in Washington, DC, with her fiance, who owns an electric car company (and is a former NFL quarterback). While driving with a friend, a Russian computer scientist, intending to defect, has invaded their taxi. They end up sheltering him in their home, along with an unusual supporting cast of characters. The assassin who is seeking the defector is hot on their trail, and all kinds of chaos occurs. This book is a great combination of intrigue, humor and a little romance. I especially liked the humorous bits that are interspersed within the drama. It was a fun book to read, and I highly recommend it!
A quirky, funny, laugh out loud read! Join Phoebe and Chase on their next adventure among a defecting Russian intelligencer, a protection detail, a Russian assassin, construction crews, persistent matrimonial minded mamas and a government shut down. What a wild ride!
It just wasn't my cup of tea but for anyone who likes spy thrillers, they may well enjoy this book. Just a little too far fetched for my taste.
This whole series is just fun, sometimes absurdly fun but still a good time. I do have trouble suspending my disbelief but the cast of characters completely makes up for anything lacking!
This trilogy has become one of my favorites. I adore each other characters and the crazy things they get theirselves into. I don't want to write too much of of a "review' because I don't want to give book 1 and 2 away. Just know, it was a wonderful ending to this story and characters. I will miss them!
Not my usual type of book but I think it’s good to try different genres. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it kept me wanting to keep reading. I’ll be looking out for more by this author.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle by Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op and #NetGalley for my honest opinion. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Delightful, enjoyable, entertaining little book I found quite enjoyable.
What a hoot! Loved it. It put a smile on my face and kept it there throughout. Entertaining, amusing, and a pure delight to read. I haven't read the first two, but I will do so soon. I am eager to discover any other books by this author also. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley.
I love a book that doesn't take itself to seriously. This is a very good book that knows exactly what it is. Its not a Mitch Rapp, or Scot Harvath novel. Nor is it a Sophie Kinsella or RS grey Novel. Its a weird hybrid of the two, and I loved it. Its a absolutely fun escape from reality that anyone can enjoy. I think Kay wrote a book that successfully transcends genres. I can recommend this book to my mystery thriller friends, as well as my romance obsessed friends.
This was a very cool book! I loved how one minute the protagonist is planning a wedding and the next it’s his M116 adventure! I was so curious to read this one even though this isn’t my usually genre. It was fast paced, fun, but most of all different. So many books seem to be recycled these days and I thought this was a really fresh fun and unique concept! Would make a great movie! Highly recommend
