An interesting/informative read, accompanied with photos of tempting foods. I look forward to trying some of these recipes going forward.
I read this book back in December and starting using the recipes then as I have been on a gut healing/elimination diet journey since January. I have loved a lot of the recipes that I have tried and will continue to use them going forward in my cooking journey for celiac's, diary free, etc. I am thankful for books like this that provide guidance when so many of us feel lost when we get diagnoses and do not know where to start.
This was a great cookbook with lots of paleo options. I really enjoyed this and I will definitely be making a ton of these recipes.

75 delicious recipes included, a great book with lots of info on how to eat paleo. Also great when you don't eat paleo but want to try out some paleo meals . Also includes lots of information on gut health.
Everyone knows someone who has been on the Paleo diet; it is all the rage, and those who follow it not only lose weight, but end up healthier and have fewer digestive problems. That’s why The Paleo Gut Healing Cookbook: 75 Nourishing Paleo + AIP Recipes & 10 Practices to Strengthen Digestion by Alison Marras and Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, Ph.D is timely and helpful. This is a great book for anyone with digestive problems with professional advice and recipes that are appealing enough to help anyone stay on track.
This book covers important subjects for those following Paleo such as anti-inflammatory foods, mindful eating, fasting, getting the proper amount of sleep, staying hydrated, stress management, and even proper breathing techniques.
The recipes, however, are the best part of the book. There are many that are mouthwatering and will appeal to everyone, even those not on the Paleo diet. It is a bonus that they are also helpful to those who need help with their digestion. The recipes are written in the traditional manner and are easy to follow. There are also beautiful photographs of many of the recipes. Also included are basics such as “cheese” sauce, Chimichurri, bone broth, and mango salsa.
Anyone on the paleo diet will appreciate having this cookbook on their cookbook shelf. It is full of great ideas for meals as well as good advice for better digestive health.

Let me tell you what, you definitely don’t feel like you are missing anything with these recipes. Ok maybe with the cauliflower rice in the Italian wedding soup but I’m picking.
The ingredients are easy to find and the recipes are well written.

Alison Marras is a nutritional therapy practitioner (NTP) and food blogger who has achieved remission of her Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (an autoimmune thyroid condition) and PCOS. Her cookbook begins with an excellent overview of gut health, the Paleo diet and lifestyle, and the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP), including lists of foods to eat and foods to avoid. The second chapter discusses 10 practices for improving digestion. The AIP is complicated, so I wouldn’t recommend attempting it using only this book, but I do think this book will be a helpful resource for anyone attempting to improve their health.
Those who are motivated to cook by seeing photos of the finished product will appreciate this cookbook. Many of the recipes are printed on half of a two-page spread, with a gorgeous full-page photo of the finished dish opposite. There are no process photos, but most of the recipes aren’t that complicated to make.
If you’re not used to eating a restricted diet, some of the ingredients may seem exotic, but most of them shouldn’t be hard to find. I can find coconut aminos, arrowroot starch, and cassava flour in some of my local grocery stores, but if you can’t find them locally, you can always order them online.
The recipes are organized by course. They are clearly written with helpful notes and include number of servings, prep time, and cook time. Icons indicate recipes that are suggested as breakfast foods, quick to prepare, require fewer dishes, or are AIP-compliant without modification. Most recipes that aren’t already AIP compliant include suggestions for how to make the recipe fully AIP compliant during the elimination phase. The recipes do not include nutritional data if that is important to you (I have to count carbs for my diabetes, and that was tricky with some of these recipes.)
So, how do the recipes taste? I’ve enjoyed almost everything I’ve tried so far. The Creamy Ginger, Pear, and Butternut Squash Soup was delicious and easy to prepare, with a nice spicy kick from the ginger. The Green Minestrone Soup with Sausage required a lot of prep work but was also really good, and it’s a great way to increase the number of vegetables you’re eating. The Chicken, Bacon, Brussels Sprouts, and Squash Skillet was fantastic; we substituted sweet potato for the squash as suggested and were delighted with the results. The Crispy Roasted Chicken Thighs with Salsa Verde were also excellent. I wasn’t as fond of the Mango Salsa as I was the Salsa Verde, but my partner liked both. The Mango Chicken Jibaritos (Plantain Sandwiches) were messy yet delicious. The Bone Broth Garlic Kale was ok, but tasted a bit too bitter to me; it was much nicer with leftover Salsa Verde. The Pumpkin Spice Turmeric Latte was like drinking pumpkin pie—warm and spicy and very comforting on a cool day. Sautéed Cinnamon Apples with Yogurt were so good—a nutritious, easy to make treat that tasted delicious and made my kitchen smell great.
The two-week meal plan isn’t something I will use, but it might be helpful for someone attempting the AIP.
The back matter includes additional resources and references, a shopping list with exclusions for the AIP elimination phase noted, and an index that includes both ingredients and recipe names. If you join the author’s email list, she will send you additional resources, such as a Food Sourcing Guide, Food & Mood Journal, Money-Saving Tips, an AIP Starter Guide, an AIP Reintroduction Guide, and meal templates.
This cookbook offers helpful suggestions and delicious recipes for those wanting to try the Paleo lifestyle or AIP to treat autoimmune disease or other chronic illnesses, or for those living with multiple food intolerances. I highly recommend it.

Mostly standard Paleo fare, although there were a few fun, new recipes here that had a Latin American vibe (tostones anyone?). I'm still looking for a way to overcome the one big problem I've found with Paleo/AIP/Whole 30: everything tastes pretty much the same (like coconuts - oil, aminos, flour).
With everything happening over the past few years, if you haven’t figured out that you need to take control of your health and that being healthy is the best way to prevent a lot of serious health issues, I am not sure what to tell you. In my research, it seems that our gut health is the basis for everything. If you have an angry, inflamed, leaky gut….you aren’t going to feel good, look good and will get sick easily. I have been taking steps to heal my gut and have better health overall. I really like that this book walks you through that process, gives you some healthy life style tips, has several recipes that are easy to follow, and even has a food plan at the end you can follow. I tagged at least 15 of the recipes to try, and am going to incorporate some of what I read into my daily life. I liked the pictures and the way the book was laid out. The only negative I see is that a lot of the recipes have sweet potatoes, so if you don’t like those…you might be out of luck. I personally love them.
Bottom Line: This was an interesting read and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get serious about their health.

Alison Marras' new cookbook is filled with useful information and recipes to help reset and strengthen gut health. She has a good introduction of how intestinal health and eating fresh clean foods can balance out symptoms and help with over all health. She focuses on Paleo and Autoimmune Protocol diet plans. At the end a weekly menu plan has been included. The recipes use clean simple ingredients with a few fun additions like lots of uses for plantains. The instructions are easy to follow and include a nice photo of each dish. As a nutrition book, I think it was lacking the standard nutritional facts for each recipe. I also would have liked to see a little more variation in the recipes and something new or more creative then the traditional paleo/low carb recipes found in lots of cookbook. Overall it was a nice health book and will be using a few of the recipes.
If you are looking for a way to better gut health, the Paleo Gut Healing Cookbook is for you. Great guidance and recipes to jump start your gut health!
This is a rather short cookbook in my eyes but I would say it is more of a health guide than a cookbook. That being said I would say this cookbook is more for experienced Paleo people seeing as there is a lot of noodles and rice being replaced. Most would think that is not hard to replace those with a better veggie alternative, but I have no idea where you would find Green Papaya Noodles. Things I did love about this book though were its' utilization of the Instant Pot, a handy new tool that will be popping up more and more in cookbooks I believe, and it's meal plan at the end. I think the meal plan at the end was very helpful because as I said this cookbook reads more as a health food guide and you need a meal plan to complete that. I'm most interested in trying the Greek Stuffed Cabbage Rolls in Lemony Sauce. I haven't thought about changing up the sauce for cabbage rolls and I think this lemony change will be a delight.

Highly informative cookbook and reference on Autoimmune protocol and Paleo dietary gut healing. I am familiar with the AIP diet, having been on it for several years until recently being able to put many foods back into my diet. The foods available are not as restrictive as many may think and this cookbook embraces the best of the Paleo and AIP diet. The author also addresses food insecurity and ways to use and find foods appropriate for the Paleo lifestyle without breaking the budget we are all in these days. Healthy eating shouldn't be a hardship. The recipes in this book range from basic broth to more intricate flavor filled entrees. This is a book I would love to put into my cookbook library! Informative, beautifully designed, it will help the reader to find the balance on the way to healthful eating for gut health.

This is a lovely cookbook which explains both the paleo diet and the autoimmune protocol as used for gut healing. Rather than be preachy, the author clearly explains the reasoning behind these diets and then lets the readers decide which pieces will work for them.
There is a great variety of recipes, most with pictures; which had me salivating as I read through the book. Cooking steps are clearly explained and none of the recipes looks overly difficult. There are a number of recipes from the author’s Puerto Rican roots which look very interesting. Can you say “ode to the green plantain”?
Paleo and AIP diet, here I come! Hope to see you all there with me.
This was a good cookbook, even though I don't follow the paleo diet myself. Still there were interesting recipes and the photos were beautiful, too.

This book is not only filled with delicious recipes (with beautiful pictures to go with the recipes), but it also has a lot of very helpful information on the gut.
I loved this book. I did a few of the recipes and they turned out amazing. I have already given this title to my book buyer to purchase it.
