This was my first book by Lucy Score but definitely won't be my last! I enjoyed the characters and the house flipping aspect of it. Thank you to the author and Forever for letting me read an early copy.

Maggie is a (Internet) famous house flipper. She goes from city to city, rehabbing houses, getting likes on social media, and moving on. Her latest project is her biggest yet: the Old Campbell Place in Kinship, Idaho. She needs a whole team to help fix up the home. Enter landscaper Silas Wright, who has deep roots in Kinship and a laid-back attitude. There’s a quick connection between Maggie and Silas, but their lives are headed in different directions. Can Silas win over Maggie before it’s time for her to move on?

I’ve read nearly every Lucy Score book and I love the heart and humor (and sexiness) she brings to all her stories. “Maggie Moves On” is chock full of heart and humor (and sexiness). What I love most is that there’s never a question of “will they or won’t they” with Maggie and Silas. Instead, the question is “will they make it last?” It was fun and frustrating to see them work to figure things out. Things got messy sometimes, but in a great way.

The book also has great supporting characters who love to interfere in Maggie and Silas’ lives, often in funny ways.

If I have any critique it’s that Silas is occasionally about 10% too pushy when he’s trying to win over or take care of Maggie. I wished at times he would dial it back just a notch. But that’s just me being nitpicky.

This book was amazing. Maggie and her ex husband Dean (he’s gay!) have a very successful YouTube show flipping houses. They never stay in 1 place long. They buy a house, flip it and then move on. Their current flip is a giant mansion full of history, in a small Idaho town. Enter Silas the hot and flirty landscaper and his dog Kevin. Right off the bat, the banter and sizzling chemistry between Maggie and Sy got me. It was honestly hilarious, spicy and sweet all at the same time. I had a giant grin on my face throughout this entire book. All the characters were likeable, and had interesting histories that kept me invested. Both main characters had a ton of character development throughout the novel. The Campbell house mystery woven into the storyline was a nice little bonus. The story would have been great without it, but with it, it was even better. The setting was also amazing. Who would have thought Idaho was so beautiful? This book was hilarious, sweet, spicy and honestly almost perfect.

And Kevin the dog…he almost stole the show

I'm a recent convert to Lucy Score, but so far I'm loving her stories! This was slightly less steamy and angsty than her other books, but still very enjoyable. This entire book was funny, heartwarming, charming, and super fun to read. One of my favorites so far this year.

This is my first book by Lucy Score and I'm so thrilled to have an entire backlist to devour now! Maggie Moves On completely pulled me out a reading slump and I loved it so much.

YouTube home reno sensation Maggie Nichols has taken on her largest project yet with the old Campbell house in Kinship, Idaho. When Silas Wright shows up on her yard with plans to revitalize the landscaping and exterior of the place, Maggie's whole world changes. As Maggie, her partner Dean, and the entire town of Kinship come together to breathe new life into the Campbell place, Maggie's forced to consider the meaning of home after a career built going from town to town.

The insta-love for Silas is strong, but ultimately it worked for me. He's completely gone on Maggie and his devotion to her leads to lots of laughs and swoons throughout the book. Maggie and Silas had excellent chemistry and the steam was off the charts. I think my favorite part was the found family element of the story between Maggie, Dean, Cody, Silas, Wallace, and everyone else. By the time everyone's story lines started to wrap up, I was a puddle of tears. The mystery of the Campbell place added a little extra layer of fun to this story which I really loved.

Content warnings: Maggie's mom died in a car accident when she was 21 and her father abandoned her as a child

Maggie and Silas are two new favorites for me, and I want to move to Kinship, Idaho. I laughed out loud and was teary eyed throughout the book- sometimes in the same chapter. I loved everything about this book.

We start with insta-love which can seem forced, OR can make you wonder about 'love at first sight'. The first time I met my husband, I remember thinking "I can see myself married to him." so I was on board with the instant connection. And it set us up for watching their relationship evolve

Maggie has a successful Youtube home renovation show and her next house is 'the old Campbell place' in Kinship, Idaho. She has a connection with the town from her past. She tends to go from place to place with minimal connection. relationships. That all changes once she gets to Kinship. Silas is grounded in the town and the community and has a wonderful extended family. There's also some charming pets, fun side characters, and a found family. This book was so much more than I expected. I'm smiling just thinking about it. I actually copied quotes from the book and saved them - I rarely do this). The one I copied was about confidence and where it comes from. You'll have to keep an eye out for it!

I recommend picking this one up!

Book Review

Title: Maggie Moves On
Author: Lucy Score
Pub Date; 6.21.2022

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to love this book so much! I know I am in the minority when I say that it was not my favorite.

What I liked:
* Maggie's dedication to her job and love of what she did.
* The sub-plot of the mystery of why Maggie chose this house.
* The inclusivity included in this book.
* Kevin is an amazing sub-character as a dog! Yes, the dog was a sub-character in my eyes. He had such a little personality and I could not get enough of him.
*Silas' family

What I didn't love:
* SILAS (the main reason for my rating) - I felt that he was mean. He seemed to butt in when he didn't need to. He seemed possessive and wanted to know about things that were not his business.
* I felt that the mystery of the house didn't actually seem plausible and was far fetched.

That was a damn cute book. I love a good renovation romance trope. Maggie and Sy so freakin cute. I love how she ended the book. The dog was pretty dang adorable too.

I DNF’d at 70%. Unfortunately, this book did not do it for me. I felt like it was flat and boring. I had more questions about the characters that I felt like the author explored. I love Lucy Score’s books usually but this one just fell a little flat for me. I related a lot to Maggie as a no-nonsense workaholic but I’m so far in and I felt like there hasn’t been much happening. Silas is too perfect and doesn’t have any flaws (at this point). I feel like the backstory is still unfolding which bothers me so far into the book, as there are some confusing things that should have been addressed towards the beginning.

Ok, I really enjoyed this. Maggie kind of annoyed me sometimes, but overall I did admire her determination & independence. I love a "boy falls first" and Silas was head over heels. Kevin was icing on the cake with comedic timing. Super cute read, but went on kind of long and I didn't think it was completely necessary so I can't give it 5 stars.

I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK. It was almost a little too Hallmarky but honestly, I didn’t care. A lot of romances lean hard into the dramatic third act breakup, but I loved that Lucy Score decided to mostly avoid it. It was nice to just love a book from start to finish and not have to worry about extra drama. I loved Maggie and Silas so much. Score’s writing is charming and I found myself smiling from the very beginning at Silas’s confidence and the antics of his dog named Kevin.

Maggie, a YouTube sensation famous for her renovation projects, lands in Kinship, ID to take on her biggest project yet—a crumbling Victorian mansion with a wealth of history hidden inside its walls. With a short timeline, she dives right in, hiring local contractors to help with the renovations, including Silas Wright, a super hot and flirty landscape genius. While their banter and budding relationship is wonderful, the supporting characters—her chosen family and his very large blended family—are the heart and soul of the book.

I laughed. I snorted. I full on cried. Maggie Moves On was an absolute joy, from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

I love DIY shows! Seeing a project go from nothing to something spectacular is always so rewarding. So I was super excited to read this book. Maggie is a strong, independent character who knows what she wants. Enter Silas, who takes one look at Maggie and decides he can’t live without her. Really? Do things like that happen?

Silas was a dog with a bone and would not leave Maggie alone. It was actually kind of creepy at times. Thank goodness he had a cute sidekick in his dog Kevin. I may have been tempted to date Silas just for his dog!

Although the relationship seemed unnatural, it had a certain charm. I loved Dean, Cody and even the curmudgeonly Wallace! The banter between the characters made me chuckle. This was an enjoyable read overall!

“Love took on a lot of forms…. Sometimes it meant holding tight and planting roots. Other times it meant loving enough to let go. Maggie wished she knew which was the right choice for her. Holding on or letting go.”

YouTube sensation Maggie Nichols has been flipping houses and moving towns for the last several years with no one but her business partner Dean to keep her company. Her latest project is an extravagant and historic Victorian mansion in the small town of Kinship, Idaho. Maggie has a plan and a timeline, but one thing she hasn’t accounted for is Silas Wright, the sexy landscaper she hires, and his adorable pit bull bursting into her life and flipping things upside down—sometimes literally. Maggie knows she needs to move on after this project is done, but as she and Silas get closer and her deadline looms, Maggie has a choice to make. But when moving on is all she knows, how can she stay?

Maggie Moves On is a phenomenal book that had me laughing, smiling, and thoroughly captivated in the story. While the chemistry between Maggie and Silas is undeniable and their romance is fantastic, I have to say that Silas’s dog Kevin stole the show. Honestly, the romance is great, but I think everyone should pick up this book purely to meet Kevin. All joking aside though, author Lucy Score does a great job pairing humor and heart to dive into some deeper topics as well, such as sometimes rocky family dynamics and the bumps and bruises of relationships. I also appreciated how Score wove a historic mystery into the plot, and her brilliant writing made the setting come alive. Anyone who loves home renovation, romance, and endearing dogs will find themselves absolutely engrossed in Maggie Moves On.

Content Warnings: Strong language, infidelity, death of a parent, intimate scenes, divorce, underage drinking

Maggie Moves On has established that Lucy Score is the queen of small-town romance novels! When House-flipping sensation and YouTube star Maggie Nichols arrives in the small town of Kinship, Idaho she's ready to take on her latest challenge and flip! She expects the typical challenges of flipping the run-down Victorian, what she doesn't expect is the enormous, overprotective hero and his service school dropout dog to put a wrench in her carefully laid plans of getting in, flipping the house, and getting out of another small-town.

I loved the overall concept of this book, which follows Maggie, a YouTuber with close to a million followers who flips houses. This takes her to a small town in Idaho called Kinship. There she meets a landscaper named Silas, who she tries her hardest not to fall for while they work together to flip this giant, rundown mansion.

However, the relationship between Maggie and Silas felt very insta-love to me and I wasn’t convinced that what they felt for each other went beyond physical attraction. Silas comes on way too strong literally from the moment he meets Maggie, in a way that was definitely a red flag and I wasn’t charmed by his character enough to look past it. There were also way too many subplots going on that I did not care for and I felt like I was forcing myself to finish the book.

I really wanted to like this book as I loved Things We Never Got Over by this author, but unfortunately this just wasn’t for me.

🛠️ MAGGIE MOVES ON by Lucy Score 🛠️

★★★★☆

🍹 Drink Pairing: The perfect pairing for this book was a mango passionfruit margarita, reminiscent of Maggie’s Margarita Girl’s Nights! An amazing Summer read warrants an equally amazing Summer drink.

🥭 Recipe: In a blender, add 1 c. frozen mango chunks and 1 c. passionfruit puree and 1/2 c. water. Blend!
Then in a cocktail shaker with ice, add 1/2 c. mango passionfruit juice, 1.5 oz tequila, 0.5 oz. Cointreau, fresh squeezed juice of 1 lime, agave to taste - and shake!! Strain over a glass with ice and garnish with a lime wheel

🌟 Review: As an HGTV binge watcher, and as someone who’s mom is a home designer/real estate agent - I was SO excited for this book. Renovating an old Victorian mansion in a small town? Sign me up!

I have been wanting to read Lucy Score’s books for so long and I was so excited to get her latest book on NetGalley! This book was so cute, and I LOVED the reverse grumpy-sunshine. Every last character was amazing, and I could envision the entire house transformation as I read. Plus - I loved the little historical mystery element to the story!

I don’t want to give away anything but if you love small-town romances, dreamy landscapers, adorable pitbulls, and quirky townsfolk - then pick up this story asap!

'Maggie Moves On' is a really fun read. If you love HGTV, rom-coms, and treasure- hunting mysteries this is your book. Overall, it's a book you'll want to share with your girlfriends (but might blush to hand to your mom). The cast of characters are all endearing. On the whole, this read did feel a little longish. It might be because if all the characters and their subplots but at least you like them enough to hang in there.

Now let's talk romance & steam. They are a great couple in a very healthy relationship. I appreciate that there are no games, playing hard to get, or fake obstacles. Just two people who use the power of communication to figure out their relationship. The sexy scenes range from frequent lusty thoughts and references to detailed scenes. If you blush while reading - you may not want to read this one in public!

❤️ ROMANCE RATING: ❤️

❤️❤️❤️ | I love them together, they clearly love each other and are meant to be.

🔥 STEAM RATING: 🔥

🔥🔥🔥🔥 | Very sexy, don't leave the book laying around. Likely, stays in most normative bounds but might have a few kinks thrown in. Definitely for adult readers. Be prepared to have your favorite bed buddy nearby.

Another fantastic book by this author. I have always loved all of her books and this one is no exception. You get a house flipper and landscaper, with lots of great side characters in a small town. There is flirty banter, sizzling chemistry, steam, and lots of laughs. This is a great easy read for the summer and anytime when you just want something fun. I highly recommend.

YouTube famous house flipper Maggie Nichols is always eager to move on to her next project. This one, in the tiny town of Kinship, Idaho, is her biggest yet, a neglected Victorian mansion that she hopes to rehab in no more than four months. She has everything she needs to get it done and that means she has no spare time for insanely attractive, happy go lucky landscaper Silas Wright.

He’s an outrageous flirt and it doesn’t help that he’s frequently on the job site in various states of undress thanks to the antics of his therapy-school dropout dog. But Maggie’s fans are there to see her travel around flipping houses across the country and she’s not someone who puts down roots. Though, she may be willing to pencil a fling into her schedule.

With his thoughtfulness and irresistible charm, Silas begins to wear down Maggie’s walls, which makes her fearful as he threatens all of her careful planning. The project will be over soon, and Maggie is beginning to rethink everything she thought she wanted, leaving her with a huge decision to make about staying or moving on yet again.

I’ve never read this author before so I had no idea what to expect of this story, but I can now say it definitely won’t be my last time reading her work. This book had a cutesy, small-town vibe but also dealt with some pretty heavily emotional themes at times, but not so heavy as to make it depressing, and it also brought the steam and dirty talk in the best way. Silas is one of my new favorite heroes. I just really enjoyed how wholesome and cheerful he was. He was like a modern-day alpha, allowing Maggie her independence but stepping in to make her relax and take care of herself when that was needed. Maggie’s need to do everything herself definitely got annoying, but once we got her backstory, it made sense that she was the way she was. However, since this backstory wasn’t revealed till later, I spent quite a bit of the book being irritated by her neuroses and cheering on Silas for not taking it. This book was great fun, but Maggie’s behavior did give me some anxiety there for a wall that had me not necessarily looking forward to my next chance to listen. I’m definitely glad I had the audiobook because I think the narrator did a great job of imbuing the dialogue with emotion and that kept me invested in the story. Maggie just frustrated me with her insistence on no one making decisions for her, which is totally fair to want, but I wanted her to at least consider other peoples’ feelings and how she could affect them. Thankfully, she did realize this eventually and when she set about putting down roots, she did it right. There were also plenty of lovely side characters to keep me occupied during the times when she was just a bit too much and I think they definitely helped the story as well. Silas was a heartbreakingly romantic hero, and I loved that he took the time to realize and notice what Maggie needed and how she communicates and she also wound-up meeting him in the middle with a lovely romantic gesture. Silas may have been the one who realized they belonged together at first, but I loved that instantaneous connection between them and his refusal to let it slip away. This one also had a super cute epilogue and I adored how everything wrapped up in the end, both with Silas and Maggie and with their delightful cast of supporting characters.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book and its audiobook. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
