Where do I begin? I loved every word and every page of this book. This is only my second Lucy Score book. It has me wanting to halt all other books so I can read her entire backlist. This book had laughter, mystery, swoon, depth, and amazing characters. There were so many stories going on within the story. You will be invested in each and every story. Oh and there’s adorable mischievous animals. Now Silas and Maggie, for Silas it was lust at first sight. Maggie took lots of convincing. I really loved everything about Maggie and Silas. The dates. The $5 bets. How they were there to completely support one another. I also loved how Silas and Maggie adopted some others and genuinely helped Wallace and Cody. It was so heartwarming. I could go on an on. This was a wonderful book!
Happy Tuesday y'all and happy release day to Maggie Moves On by Lucy Score! I'm barely getting this in under the wire, but man, today has been such a busy day! I was hoping that work was going to be a little less busy today so I would have a little break to write/post this review, but that didn't happen and then after work, I was too tired to do anything- a real Tuesday for sure. ANYWAY, I'm so excited to talk to you guys about this book because I loved it so much! Thank you so much to Forever and Netgalley for letting me read an eARC of this book!
Maggie Moves On 5/5 Stars
Summary from Goodreads:
Can these opposites turn up the heat… without burning down the house?
House-flipping sensation and YouTube star Maggie Nichols can’t wait to dig into her next challenge. Arriving in tiny Kinship, Idaho, with only a cot and a coffeemaker, Maggie is prepared to restore a crumbling Victorian mansion in four months or less. She has her to-do lists, her blueprints, and her team. What she doesn’t have is time for sexy, laid-back landscaper Silas Wright.
The man takes flirtation to a whole new level. And he does it shirtless…sometimes pants-less. He and his service school-dropout dog are impressively persistent. But she’s not interested in putting down roots. Not when fans tune in to watch her travel the country turning dilapidated houses into dream homes. A short-term fling on the other hand could fit nicely into her calendar. After all, Maggie remembers what fun is like. Vaguely.
As their summer gets downright steamy, Silas manages to demolish the emotional walls she’s spent years building, sending Maggie into a panic. He’s the wrench in her carefully constructed plans. With the end of the project looming, she has a decision to make. But how can she stay when her entire career is built on moving on?
I loved this book so, so much! It was such a cute read and I really loved the whole concept of Maggie always moving on from flip to flip and Silas trying to keep her in Kinship. I really liked Maggie and Silas as characters- they had such great chemistry and I loved how emotionally available and mature Silas was. His whole family dynamic was amazing too and I loved reading that. Kinship was such an adorable town that really seemed to look out for each other and I enjoyed that sense of community too. The whole show aspect of things was great as well. And Kevin- OMG I loved Kevin! Plot and pacing wise, I thought things were done well- Maggie and Silas could have moved a tiny bit faster, but I understood her hesitations (plus Silas was such a flirt, so caution makes sense). Maggie's family drama was interesting and I wish we could have gotten a little more of it or more resolution with it, but it didn't feel incomplete nor was I confused or anything like that. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I thought it was a super fun read that y'all should definitely pick up today!
I thought this story was so great! It’s a small town, spicy romance with the “he falls first” trope and I couldn’t get enough!🤩
Maggie has a rapidly-growing YouTube show where she renovates fixer-uppers with the help of local businesses, films the whole process, sells the house for a profit, and moves on to the next house in the next town…until she arrives in small town Idaho.
Silas steps onto the property with all the confidence and swagger, and his hilariously ornery dog Kevin, and instantly knows Maggie is it for him…but can he convince her gypsy soul to stay and give him a chance?!
This was my first Lucy Score and I’m determined now to read through her backlist - I’m 100% sold! Not only were the main characters wonderfully written, I was also completely invested in the side characters, as well! I laughed so much through this book and even found tears in my eyes a couple of times🥹
I would absolutely recommend picking this one up if you enjoy:
✨a protective MMC
✨an independent FMC
✨a wonderful secondary cast
✨found family
✨HGTV fixer-upper shows
✨small town romance
✨”he falls first”
…just to name a few😍 You won’t be disappointed!
I have long been a fan of Lucy Score and am so happy to read her traditionally published debut. Any other LS fans will recognize the trademark small town, though this one is definitely more tame than others.
Silas is a big old fluffy teddy bear ready to whisk Maggie off her feet. He knows from their first meeting this is it for him. He comes on strong, but he's not obnoxious. He truly finds Maggie to be his equal and pushes her outside her comfort zone.
Maggie is a lot of fun too. Girl has plenty of issues, which take a while to be fully fleshed out. She is surrounded by people that want her to succeed professionally and personally. Obviously, she doesn't know what to do with that.
The angst/drama that is required of all romances is there but its minor. The leads act pretty reasonably and no one is melodramatic. The supporting cast is diverse and fun, ready to take you on a fun journey.
Maggie is used to moving from one flip to another. As a YouTube sensation, Maggie shows up in Kinship, Idado, expecting to tackle her next project and quickly move on. What looms is her biggest project yet, an old Victorian mansion at the top of a cliff. Even though this is a huge project, she has a plan to stay on track, but then a good-looking landscaper named Silas Wright walks into her life and throws her plans and schedule right out the window. Silas takes flirting to a whole new level and doesn’t hide his feelings. Maggie is adamant that she doesn’t put down roots and that she will be moving on at the end. The only thing that fits into her schedule is a short-term fling. As the project moves on, Maggie sees change in more than the mansion that might leave her with one big question to answer at the end.
I loved that Maggie took on a non-tradtional role as a woman in construction. Silas was something though. At time, I wanted to reach though and slap him. His flirting was a bit over the top and borderline inappropriate too. The dynamics between the characters were fun though and love the LGBTQ+ presence. A great addition for Pride month reading. Since I’m in the midst of moving right now, this got me pumped up to tackle some (rental friendly) projects when I get settled!
This story has so much depth, family dynamic, love, and is just full of laughs… and I just inhaled every second of it! Hot landscapers to dilapidated houses to steamy bedroom scenes and a hilarious, yet intrusive dog named Kevin — this book has it all!
Maggie is a successful house-flipper and YouTube star who is always on the move. Everywhere she goes, she takes her fans along with her through her YouTube channel. Her next stop is Kinship, Idaho, to flip a run-down, deteriorated, Victorian mansion. She hires Silas, a hot landscaper and owner of Bitterroot Landscapes, to help her with the mansion renos. Maggie has no idea that what she needs is right around the corner.
Silas is a laid back, easy going, balanced guy, with just the best dog ever. The moment he lays eyes on Maggie, he knows she’s the one… but does she feel the same, especially being so focused on her career at this point in her life.
This book is full of mystery, not only in the dilapidated mansion, but between Maggie and Silas. I highly recommend it!
AHHHH This book! I love a good small-town romance, and NO one writes it better than LUCY FREAKIN SCORE! Lucy has this wonderful way of turning your favorite tropes on their heads! You have your typical Love at first sight romance happening here, except wait, the happy-go-lucky, "we're definitely going to end up together, I don't care what you have to say" character, is the adorable Landscaper Hero with his service school drop out dog sidekick! I mean the man basically stipped the first time they met how do you get better than that?! Maggie is a tough nut to crack but Silas doesn't give up and puts in the effort and continuously makes you swoon on nearly every single page. And Kevin the dog? Forget about it! If it were possible to dognap a fictional pet, it would be happening! Lucy does what she does best in this book, she makes every single character as full and well-rounded as possible, you don't just care about the two main characters and their happy endings, but those of Silas' crew, and Cody's journey through High school, but also Dean's journey to finding his place in the world. You watch as Maggie not only finds her soulmate but what family actually means and what more importantly what Home means, in a way that only Lucy Score can truly do. There really aren't enough words in the English language to recommend this book enough, if you haven't already read this one, then binge Lucy's entire catalog, I PROMISE you it's worth it.
This was the first book by Lucy Score that I read and I absolutely adored it! I love a good home renovation show (Maggie's YouTube channel is something that I would watch!) and really loved how, along the Old Campbell House, Maggie evolved during her time in Kinship. I really really loved super flirty Silas (and we can't forget Kevin!). I loved all of the side characters as well. It was a super fun read!
I absolutely loved Silas's confidence in this book. He knew he was going to marry Maggie the moment he met her and actively pursued her and fought to keep her around. Also Lucy Score is amazing at writing dogs into her stories. Kevin was such a lovely character. He made me laugh every time he was in a chapter. The moment Maggie, Silas and Kevin met for the first time was fantastic.
Maggie flips houses, documenting the renovations on her YouTube channel. She’s found a dilapidated mansion and hires Silas to do the landscaping. He falls head-over-heels in love with her the moment he meets her and starts flirting straight away. But she has rules against dating contractors. So she’s looking at a fling while he knows it is true love. But can Maggie make a larger commitment to a man, to a human- not just to a job?
There is a strong theme about connections and family. Maggie at first has none while Silas has a big old extended family and lives fully in the kinship of this little town named Kinship. And the people who make up this web are funny and quirky characters you’ll enjoy getting to know. The best secondary character is the dog, Kevin. Watch out for him and you’ll get lots of laughs. He, too, ends up with family!
I loved that Silas offers to follow Maggie to jobs. He doesn’t assume that because she is the woman she needs to be the one to make the sacrifice to stay in Kinship. I appreciated that this little stereotype-bashing was just something assumed, not made into a big deal.
Several mysteries and surprises dot the book as the renovations progress. No spoilers here. Enjoy them as you read.
Overall I am pleased that I’ll get to recommend this book to my patrons.
All of the warm and beautiful things this author includes in her books is all here in Maggie Moves On. This is a heartfelt story that draws you in, offers you a blanket and a cup of tea and offers you a wonderful visit to Kinship, Idaho. This is a 5 star read!
Maggie Nichols is a house flipping sensation who arrives in Kinship, Idaho with her sights set on renovating a beautiful mansion. This isn’t new for Maggie—restoring houses is her thing—but she doesn’t expect Silas Wright, the flirty, sexy landscaper with a big heart. Along with his adorable therapy-school-dropout dog, Kevin, they make Maggie want things she hasn’t let herself want in a long time. She’s built her whole life around moving on, but is she finally ready to put down roots?
Lucy Score never disappoints, and this book is no exception! I loved both Maggie and Silas from the beginning and their banter and interactions with each other were top notch. If you’re a Lucy fan than you know her books pack a punch, but always make you feel good once you’re done. I swooned, I laughed out loud, and I didn’t want to leave the charming town of Kinship at all. I was so invested in both the renovation of the Old Campbell Place and in Maggie and Silas’s relationship that I felt like I was part of their loud, lovable crew. And honestly, who wouldn’t want to part of their beautiful, blended, found family?
As we learn more about both Maggie and Silas’ lives, we get a greater understanding of why they live life the way they do. We see why Maggie has built so many walls around her own heart, and why Silas is so determined to break them down. There is also an amazing cast of side characters who you will fall in love with and many tender moments that will pull on your heartstrings. There’s also a mystery to be solved! This story has everything you love from a Lucy Score novel, and if it’s your first Lucy book, you’ll see why we keep going back for more.
MAGGIE MOVES ON is officially out in the world, so pick it up now! Request it from your library! Get it from your favorite indie bookstore! You won’t regret visiting Kinship and all the wonderful people (and animals) who live there. A big thanks to the author, NetGalley, and Forever for the advanced copy.
“It doesn’t matter how much you have, if it’s not what you want. You can’t just decide to be happy with less than.”
This fixer upper meets yard crashers romance had me laughing and smiling and even snuck a few tears out of me! Maggie and her business partner Dean run a successful YouTube home renovation show, always chasing that next home disaster to transform. So when her next flip takes her to the quirky town of Kinship Idaho, the last things she expects is a sexy landscaper to literally mow the pants off of her! Silas had me smitten from the start, a man with quick wit and funny one liners will get me every time! I would definitely be tuning in weekly for more Maggie and Silas. #HotLandscaperGuy
“It’s a kiss, Maggie. Not a commitment. One kiss won’t cost you a lifetime,”
I couldn’t help but laugh at Silas’ flirtatious negotiating, he set his sights on Maggie and just knew that she was it for him. His dog Kevin was absolutely hilarious and his antics kept me laughing, bacon anyone?Every side character brought something to the story and I loved the found family that was created because of renovating the house. Maggie was constantly on the move, avoiding any long term commitments that could break her heart but Silas would have none of it and he used all the town magic to show Maggie that Kinship was a perfect place to stay! He was definitely the “Wright” guy for Maggie in and out of the bedroom if you catch my drift. There is a certain water scene that was scorching! The addition of town mystery surrounding the house and the stolen gold added a fun sense of adventure to the storyline, a little national treasure feel to it! Overall absolutely loved it!
“I’ve been waiting my entire life to find home. And I found one. I made one. Here. With you.”
Maggie is a successful Youtuber where she does videos on house renovations. One of her current (and biggest) house flips happens to be in a small town in Idaho where she meets and hires, Hot Landscaper Guy, aka Silas Wright. Silas is a huge flirt and basically fell in love with Maggie the moment he laid eyes on her. He tries to change Maggie’s mind into staying rather than moving on to the next project, especially when she’s more of the “not-one-to-settle-down” type and he’s the opposite.

I know this is a VERY unpopular opinion and I’m really sad about it. I’m relatively new to Lucy Score, her book, Things We Never Got Over is on my list of top 2022 reads. So I had very high expectations going into this book. I really wanted to love this, and genuinely thought that I would, because there were so many good elements in here that I’m usually a big fan of… but unfortunately the layout, execution, and writing was off for me.
I wanted so badly to like this book. I tried so hard. But Silas made it very difficult for me. I struggled with him from the very beginning, and by the halfway point I began to really dislike him. I get the attempt of the cinnamon roll hero portrayal but it didn’t come across that way at all. I found him to be extremely OTT in his “flirting” and his pursuit of Maggie. It came across as pushy, controlling, domineering and overly possessive. I just didn’t like him as a character, and at times he crossed the line into asshole territory. I’m all for an alpha hero, but this was toxic masculinity that wasn’t romantic or sexy. He was also very entitled about his role in Maggie’s life even though they had essentially just met. And don’t even get me started on the kayak fiasco....IYKYK
The romance was okay, despite the insta-love. On a very superficial level, it wasn’t that romantic. I didn’t feel their connection...they had chemistry but I wasn't blown away by their relationship. I generally don’t have a problem with insta-love, but for me, the romance has to have a swoon factor. And personally, that lacked big time for me. It actually got to the point where I didn’t care if they were together or not. It was also way longer than it needed to be and I just felt like the story was a bit all over the place… so many elements, secondary plots, and side characters … it just didn’t feel perfectly balanced to me. I couldn't keep up with everyone, and it was exhausting. The story dragged on and on and it felt like a chore to keep reading.
Overall, there was so much potential but I was massively let down. The ending was super cheesy and seemed like a forced happily-ever-after that wasn’t fitting for the rest of the book.
Maggie Nichols, 34, is a YouTuber and house flipper who is in Kinship,Idaho for 4 months to restore a Victorian mansion that has a bit of a mystery. Silas Wright, 37, is the flirtatious landscaper hired to help with the grounds. These two have chemistry but different goals.
This was a fast-paced ,very steamy rom-com with lots of flirty banter. Sy's dog Kevin was a scene stealer! I enjoyed the small town setting and all the great secondary characters. It was fun to read the comments from Maggie's Instagram and YouTube channel at the end of each chapter.
Sy was a bit too alpha for me. He came across as bossy and demanding and his repeatedly telling Maggie "good girl" was off putting. However I liked the banter and the other characters. The story also had a nice epilogue and update on many of the characters.
Thank you to the publisher for my e copy of this book.
Happy publishing day to this feel good romance! Thank you NetGalley and Forever Publishing for an ARC copy of this book. I loved this small town meet HGTV love story! Sweet, a little spicy, with characters that had so much depth. I loved the way that author uncovered more and more about Maggie as the story went on., and saw so much of myself in her!
Do you believe in signs? Silas Wright does. The moment he lays eyes on YouTube sensation Maggie Nichols, he knows she's the girl for him. Maggie and her partner, Dean Jensen, have come to the small town of Kinship, ID, to restore the Old Campbell Place for her internet home renovation show. As soon as she wraps the last episode for the beach house they just finished up, she'll roll up her sleeves, work her magic on this Kinship house and move on to her next project. It's what she does, and does best. She’s spent her adult life rootless, moving from one reno to the next.
Maggie may like the landscape plans Silas has for the Campbell place, but she has a firm rule never to date one of her contractors. Sure, his easy charm, effortless flirting, and compassion for others are appealing, but her lists, schedules, spreadsheets, and timelines leave little room for a good time and none for a romantic relationship. Except the more time she spends with Silas, the more she gets drawn into his world, his community, his family, and the beauty and majesty of the nature that surrounds them.
The Wild West is steeped in history, especially in Kinship, and the Campbell place has its share of secrets. Something Maggie should feel right at home with, since she has her own share of them. As the secrets slowly unfold and work on the house progresses, the Universe takes the opportunity to teach Maggie a few life lessons she never dreamed of, and may be slightly reluctant to learning.
A Lucy Score book is side-splitting laughter, hilarious mishaps and even madcap hijinks. But it’s more. So much more. It's heart-rending emotion, stunning profoundness and heart-soaring delight. And Maggie's story is even more, with this historic home renovation having the unintended consequences of cobbling and collecting a family, finding a home and learning what happiness truly means.
Is it possible for this book to become a series? (*wink, wink* Forever Pub.). This is a world I want to live in forever. I want to move to Kinship and become a part of the fabric of daily life there. There are many grand parties to come at the Old Campbell Place and so many characters to get to know a lot more about. And I definitely need more of Kevin, the big butterball goof who flunked out of service dog training.
With a quirky, endearing cast of secondary characters, a charming small-town setting, and poignant surprises that hit all the right notes, Maggie and Sy's romance has “best seller" written all over it. This enchanting, emotive, phenomenal romance is one of the best I’ve ever read, one I’ll return to again, and one you absolutely won’t want to miss!
Oh this book was adorable just the cover with little mischievous Kevin had me intrigued. A small town romance where the guy falls first yes please! I fell instantly in love with both Maggie & Silas. The very first meeting between the pair, Silas was head over heels for Maggie I mean he was already referring to her as his future wife lol! Silas was definitely a charmer & either you like that or you don’t & the way Lucy wrote his character I really enjoyed it. I thought he was funny & very flirtatious but it didn’t come off as to much. He just wanted Maggie to give them a chance. He was so caring, kind, giving, & a handsome landscaper who had such an adorable dog. Maggie was bit closed off at first but, began seeing what it would be like to have family/friends (aside from Dean lol). She is very hard working, determined & didn’t want to depend upon anyone if she could fix it herself. Coming from her past it was understandable why she had built the walls she had. Silas was able to work with her & help her understand it was okay to have someone there for her. I loved the side characters Silas family, the crew & Cody they all added to the story & it’s humor.💕 Overall, I really enjoyed this book the flirtations banter, adventure & adorably messy dog.
Lucy Score congratulations on another great book! Happy Release Day!!

Maggie and Silas were a lot of fun. I did enjoy their connection, although their meet cute did strike me as a little off, but also as you get to know Silas, it starts to seem in character. So, while I was not sure what I thought about it at the beginning, by the end it was amusing.
I believed in the connection between them and the attraction felt authentic and real. It developed in a way I believed and the attraction felt genuine.
Parts of this did drag a little and I did think that the book was maybe a little too long, but not badly enough that it pulled me out of the story enough for me to stop reading. I do think there was possibly too much time spent on other characters and the town, but they were also amusing stories about the other town inhabitants, so while it did pull out of the story, it was amusing on it's own.
Overall, I enjoyed and recommend this title.
