The perfect book if you're in a slump! I honestly can't get enough of this story. I finished listening to the audiobook this morning and haven't been able to stop talking about it since. (Sorry to Addie and my mom, lol.)
I'm not sure if I just went in with burnout from a previous book, but my heart is so happy after reading Maggie Moves On, and I wish I could read it again for the first time.
The characters are all so personable, especially Silas, who falls in insta-lust with Maggie from the moment he meets her. His dog is always getting into trouble and finds a ragtag kitten duo that joins him on his crazy adventures.
The side characters are just as great. Dean is Maggie's business partner, not to mention her ex-husband, and I adore their special relationship, particularly when they're swooning over the same guys.
From start to finish, this is a romantic comedy guaranteed to get you out of whatever reading slump you're in, or if you've just had a rough day, curl up with this book and I guarantee it'll leave you smiling and in a better emotional state of being.
Perfect for any lover of animals, romance, stubborn but strong female leads, and hilarious unfiltered men. I loved all of the home reno references, and could totally see the story playing out in my mind. I will definitely be coming back to this one again in the near future!
Thank you for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Maggie is a home flipper who has a YouTube channel and has nearly achieved a million followers. She’s decided to purchase her most ambitious property to flip - it is a historical home on many acres of land in Kinship, Idaho. She travels down with Dean to start renovations and plans to move on to her next project. For the past few years she has been moving from project to project and doesn’t really have a home base which has become the way she likes it. The project is on a large piece of property and she hires a landscaper who she believes her public will respond to well when they see him featured on her social media channel. Maggie doesn't want to get involved with anyone and just wants to focus on her job. However, this hot landscaper (Silas) has other ideas and believes she is the one he is meant to spend the rest of his life with.
The book is a quick fun read with a good pace - there are some sections in the book that made me laugh. There were some sections of the story that dealt with difficult topics pertaining to parental abandonment/estrangement.
The book included a bit of a mystery component in it as well which I quite enjoyed, the book didn't feel like it had too many different subplots in the story which kept me interested.
I would highly recommend this if you like romcoms.
A good read with a wide cast of characters. Going into this book I assumed it was a rom-com but it definitely felt heavier than that at times. I enjoyed the sub-plots of the missing gold but at times it felt like it took away from the main plot. I look forward to reading more Lucy Score in the future.
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
Maggie Moves On was such an enjoyable book. I’ve read a few Lucy Score books and she is an author I will keep coming back to. Her stories are always well developed, the characters are always fun to discover and learn about, and Maggie Moves On is no exception.
Maggie is a genius when it comes to house flipping and she shows off her expertise on YouTube where she is close to one-millions subscribers and she can’t wait to her next project in Kinship, Idaho. She’s taking on one of the biggest and most difficult challenges of her career, and her landscaper Silas is definitely not making it any easier with his laidback attitude and his massively flirtatious ways. But maybe Silas is exactly what Maggie needs in her life, if only she can learn to stay in one place long enough to discover that for herself.
I love all the characters of this book, every single one of them, and the relationships built between all the different characters was just amazing. I loved the side mystery involved in the story and Kevin, the troublesome pit bull, was just a wonderful addition to the story. The chemistry and banter between Maggie and Silas were on point and I loved how Silas treated Maggie, he always knew exactly what she needed. And of course, I can’t not mention that the character development for all the characters was perfect.
There was so much to love in this adorable rom-com. Work-a-holic house flipper Maggie meets hottie landscaper Silas and his clumsy pitty companion, Kevin when they work together on Maggie’s new Victorian flip project. I loved that Maggie was our grumpy, all business female character and Silas was our happy, zest for live, first to fall sunshine male. Silas makes it his mission to show Maggie that there’s more to life than work and if she gives into her feelings she’d realize she’s falling for Silas, too. The side characters were so like-able and enjoyable and they played big parts within the story. I lived for Maggie and Dean’s relationship, their witty banter was one of my favorite parts of this book. I loved how this book incorporated blended family dynamics as well as interracial/gay couples. Again, there was just so much to love and enjoy in this, the found family trope may be my new favorite. And any book that incudes pets and gives them such big roles in a story gets extra points from me. All in all this ultimate summer, small town vibes, angsty grumpy/sunshine romance with small sprinkles of mystery and family reconciliation thrown in. I really enjoyed this read. The only critique I have which resulted in 4.5 starts instead of 5 is since this was a very slow burn, I was needing and wanting more of a memorable epilogue.
Thank you NetGalley & Grand Central Publishing for my ARC copy. Reviews and opinions are my own.
Maggie Moves On is everything I want in a Lucy Score book: romance, great characters, humor and heat. Once again, she provides all these elements in just the right doses and the result is the perfect fun summer read.
4.5/5 stars
Maggie arrives in Idaho to feature her most ambitious house flip yet on her YouTube channel. She’s spent a lot of time avoiding relationships and putting down roots. But when adorable landscaper Silas immediately falls for her, can he make staying once the renovation is done a viable decision?
The romance between the two is great, both steamy and humorous. And, the secondary characters are a hoot. From grumpy Dean to lost Cody to Silas’ extended family, Maggie’s new found family makes the book shine. Kevin the pit bull my personal favorite; whether he’s stealing food or taking care of kittens, he’s a hilarious highlight.
As the romance builds, so does the plot and all its various twists. It’s not a spoiler to say there are lots of moving pieces of the plot that all fit together in the end.
If you are a fan of hilarious romcoms with heat, Maggie Moves On is a must read. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with these entertaining characters who find themselves in humorous situations, all while supporting their found family.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Maggie and Silas's love story is fun, sweet, entertaining, and so very funny. It contains some of the best sarcasm I've read in a long while. I loved every minute of it but I have to say my favourite character might just be Kevin.
Maggie Moves On is another winning hit for Lucy Score. She entertains us with her wonderful characters that make you feel like they are old friends or leave you wishing they were. Her writing style ebbs and flows, taking you on a wonderful journey into the lives of Maggie Nichols, a popular YouTube house flipper on the verge of a million subscribers, and Silas Wright, the easy-going landscape architect she hires to work on the grounds of the Old Campbell Place, a Queen Anne Victorian, her latest flipping project in Kinship, Idaho.
Silas and his dog, Kevin, a pit bull that got booted out of Therapy Dog School, meet Maggie for the first time at the Old Campbell place. Silas is in lust from the get-go, and Maggie finds it difficult not to watch the tall, flirty, hot landscaper. Maggie knows that getting Silas on camera wouldn't take much asking and would probably bring up her YouTube subscriber count.
Silas turns on the charm, but Maggie is too busy to see anyone. Silas continues to pursue Maggie, but will Maggie give in to her attraction to Silas? Mystery and intrigue bring them together
There is so much more in Maggie Moves On than the relationship between Maggie and Silas, there is mystery and intrigue that surrounds the Old Campbell place and the town of Kinship. There are family dynamics, people that become more than friends, friends who give you love and support without measure when you feel alone, and people who will always be there for you when you thought that you had to take care of everything yourself, it's about love, loss, acceptance, and understanding that everything is not always what it seems, and that you are more than you thought you could possibly be...
I really loved this book. It made me laugh and cry and filled my heart joy. I love the quirky characters, who are all unique in their own special way and I hope to take a trip back to Kinship again.
Maggie Moves On is an amazing romcom that has interesting characters and a lovable dog. If you’re looking for an enjoyable break from life this is the book you want to read. Beware that you will want your very own Kevin before you get to the end of the book. Lucy Score has a talent for creating relatable characters that you can’t wait to read their whole story. Do not start this book on a night you need to show to sleep early. This is definitely a book hangover inducing book.
The next renovation flip for YouTube star Maggie Nichols is a dilapidated mansion known as The Campbell Place in Kinship, Idaho. When she arrives on site and begins to hire contractors, landscaper Silas Wright does everything he can to make a loud, flirty, and persistent first impression, alongside his lovable but troublesome dog. As Maggie, Silas, and the rest of the team work to rebuild the mansion and share the progress with her following, Maggie begins to fall in love with more than just the small western town!
The unexpected plot element I wasn’t expecting but absolutely loved was the mystery embedded in this contemporary romance novel! The secret of the house and the family that built it was an exciting mystery to see unfold. And the banter!! I am talking blush-worthy flirtation from the first chapter, which continued until the end. It was a quick and fun read with found family, a community that’s easy to love, and some sexy summer romance!
Thank you to Netgalley, Forever, and the author for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Thank you to Lucy Score and NetGalley for a copy of this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Alright, first off. I LOVED THIS BOOK. I had no idea what to expect when going into this, in all honesty, I didn't even really pay attention to the blurb... the cover caught my eye, so I said "what the hell" and requested a copy. I got it and here's another truth bomb, it sat on my Kindle for a WHILE. Joke's on me for waiting so long to read this book because I am absolutely in love with it.
When I get really excited about a book it's hard for me to type what's going through my head fast enough, so I'm going to break it down in sections with points to help myself out.
Characters:
Silas: Ladies, when I say this, listen up... He's MINE and has charmed his way to the top of my book boyfriends list. It's still hard to say who I would choose between him and Brendan Taggert, but let me tell you.... this man is so swoon worthy. I found myselfing highlighting part after part where he was concerned, either because it was so sweet, funny, or just showed what a great character he is. He has an amazing sense of humor and flat out tells Maggie right from the start how he feels about her.
"Maggie Nichols, I don't mean to scare you off, but I think you just might be the girl of my dreams."
"What I hear you saying is that there's a twenty percent chance that you'll fall in love with this place and your handsome landscaper,"
Maggie: At first Maggie struck me as the bubbly, always optimistic type and I was a little nervous because FMC like that can be hit or miss. I'm happy to say that while yes, she is optimistic, she's also a realist and driven. She has a wonderful work ethic and it was fun to watch her losen up with Silas. She had her own fair share of laugh out loud moments that I enjoyed and I thought she was the perfect partner for Silas.
"Oh, and Cody?' she called. He turned around. 'If your sucky friends ask, tell them I cut off your pinkie toe with a hatchet and buried it in the basement."
There were so many wonderful side characters in this story, I can't help but want to suggest reading this book solely for their parts and interactions in it. Silas's family was just perfect and I'd like to be adopted by them, Maggie's non traditional family and even the town of Kinship were all a huge part of this story.
Storyline :
A house flipper falls for the landscaper, basic yet so much fun the way Lucy Score did it. She made a superficial idea into a deeper story with a little mystery thrown in. I liked that while the house flipping was featured and played pivotal roles, the story was character driven. Ultimately, we had a love story, small mystery, found/adoptive family, hero falls first story that just worked.
Steam :
There were some steamy parts, yay no fade to black, but it was not a book I would recommend if you're looking for scorching hot smut. The scenes were more explicit than fade to black, but definitely didn't make me blush. If I had one thing I could change, it would be this aspect. Maybe I've just been so immersed in steamy books, but I could have done with a little more on the chili pepper scale. Still not complaining though and it doesn't take away from the book at all!
Dialogue/Writing:
All I'm going to say about this category is that I am not a person who usually highlights parts of a book. On average, I'll have 1-2 (MAYBE) highlights per book. I found myself highlighting so many parts, I actually had to stop myself for fear that the entire page would end up yellow. So many parts I just wanted to remember and even looking back now, I can't help but smile, swoon, or crack up over the portions I saved.
Do yourself a favor and read this book, it's now one of my favorite books and I'll be getting a copy as soon as I can. Warning for those who like shorter books, this one is on the longer side for a romance, coming in at over 400 pages, but I still finished it in a day because I was sucked in. I'm so glad I requested and got a copy, I'll likely even listen to it when the audiobook comes out also. It's just one of those books you want to remain stuck in for as long as possible.
I'm a huge Lucy Score fan and I was slightly worried that her first traditionally published book wouldn't have everything I love about her books. I'm happy to say that wasn't the case!
Maggie Nichols flips houses and has a successful Youtube channel. She ends up in Kinship, Idaho refurbishing a historic home when she meets Silas, a landscaper who's convinced he's met the One. Maggie isn't so sure. She travels for work, doesn't have a set address and likes to keep things light. However, Sy and his overweight pitbull, Kevin win her over along. There's a mystery involving the house, found family, hot romance and family members who add so such humor and heart to the story. You will absolutely adore this one!
Book Review:
5 ⭐️’s
Book three from Lucy Score and I guess I’m officially a fan? Not only have I loved every story I’ve read so far, but she’s managed to get TWO (2) five star ratings out me!
One of the things I struggle with sometimes is worrying over an authors’ opinion of me when I receive an arc from them and feeling like they may not like my thoughts or review. It doesn’t sway me into giving false reviews, but it still makes me feel like I’ll be shunned for not giving them the highest rating they wanted in exchange for the early release. I am pleased to say I never felt that way during the reading of this book because I thoroughly enjoyed it the entire time.
𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗻 is a lovely frenemies-to-lovers story with an outstanding ensemble of characters and one of the most endearing dogs I’ve ever read! I loved the romance of it all, the slow burn, mystery we got on the side, and the absolutely BEST found family around. There was so much to enjoy about this book, AND the conflict was not drawn out in an unnecessary way. It feels like Lucy Score is really honing her storytelling skills and I really appreciate that.
Honestly, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 read this book as soon as it releases on June 21. Easy five stars. (What’s happening to me?)

Opposites Attract? Yep
Home Renovation? Yep
Steam? For Sure
Meddling Family? Of course!
This was my first book by Lucy Score and it will not be my last. I was drawn in by the characters and the banter between Maggie and Silas. This book is for anyone who loves home renovation or HGTV and a good romance. Is the book long? For sure but it does not disappoint. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
I’m sorry but this was not for me. Silas was actually an annoying alpha man. I really thought this was a friend to lovers between Dean and Maggie after chapter 1, but boy was I wrong.
Silas needed to understand boundaries and stop forcing Maggie into doing things that to me seemed dangerous. And honestly, at a point I was so over the romance aspect of the book, I couldn’t care less about whether Maggie and Silas ended up together or not.
The only reason why I kept reading was that I was actually interested in the history/mystery behind the Old Campbell House. To me, that was the most interesting part of the story.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever Grand Publishing for the ARC
Included as a top pick in bimonthly June New Releases post, which highlights and promotes upcoming releases of the month (link attached)
Maggie Nichols travels around the country along with her partner, Dean, purchasing homes, renovating and flipping them, and recording the process for their popular, self-published YouTube home improvement show. When she purchases the Old Campbell Place in Kinship, Idaho, though, things feel different. It’s their biggest home project yet, and, unbeknownst to Dean, Maggie has a connection with the town. As they begin hiring local crews to work on the project, Maggie and Dean start forming additional connections in Kinship.
Enter Silas Wright, local landscaper, dog daddy, tight with his family, beloved by the town, and driven by his gut. And when Silas meets Maggie, that gut tells him that she is the woman he is going to marry, but Silas has roots and Maggie has made it her mission to keep moving, never to plant and stay in one place.
I absolutely adored Maggie Moves On. It has been added to the list of books I plan to read again (and again and again). I love the interaction between Silas and Maggie, how he works with his instalove and her insta-attraction, and how the relationship develops from there. His in-the-momentness complements and balances her planner and list-making tendencies.
Yes, there are steamy open door romance scenes, but–as I have come to realize with each additional Lucy Score book added to my read list–Score is also a master of writing those swoonworthy, hot and heavy kissing scenes, where the the characters get completely swept up in the sparks and attraction and lose all sense of where they are and any objections they may have had about pursuing a relationship.
I became invested not only in Silas and Maggie’s story but in the subplots and relationships of the supporting characters as well. Kevin, the bacon-stealing, door-opening, mama dog to kittens Taco and Dolly Parton, steals hearts and scenes. Silas’s tangle of parents, more parents, and siblings endeared him to me more, and Maggie’s found family just melted my heart.
And I feel like it would be remiss for me to post a review without commenting on how the mystery and history surrounding the house and its former residents only enhances the story more.
Heartwarming and steamy with a bit of intrigue and adventure, Maggie Moves On is a romance that I would definitely recommend.
I received an e-copy from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this one! I think Lucy Score is a new favorite! I loved Maggie and seeing how she completely overhauls a house. I loved the banter she shared with Dean and Silas. I absolutely adored the community she created while living and working in the small town. It was steamy, but not as steamy as the other Lucy Score book I’ve read. There were so many moments that had me laughing out loud, especially with Kevin and his kittens! I think this will be a great summer binge read and I highly recommend it!
Maggie Moves On contained so many elements I enjoy in a romance (e.g., found family, strong friendships, and a cute pet), but a lack of chemistry between leads Maggie and Silas made it difficult for the pieces to fit together well. I was convinced of their physical attraction but not that it was love. Additionally, I did not care much for Silas, who fell in love at first sight and then proceeded to believe he knew what was best for Maggie. Maggie Moves On differed from Score's previous works, many of which I love. I liked it and it made me chuckle here and there, but it didn't leave me with a book hangover, and the emotional connection was missing. Truthfully, it doesn't do justice to how wonderful her previous works are.
Lucy Freakin' Score! Lucy does small town romances with big personality characters. From the first moment Silas Wright set his eyes on Maggie Nichols, he was smitten (maybe smitten is a complete understatement here but let's go with it). For once I had a book in my reading rotation that had the male lead fall head over heels for the female lead from the very first meeting. Add in the fact that it was a successful woman fixer upper and I was a goner.
Silas spent a good deal of the book hinting and trying to convince Maggie that she wanted to put down roots in Kinship. Maggie spent copious amounts of time telling him she was a for now kind of girl, no roots just wings. And then we delved deeper into Maggie. The Maggie very few people knew. The Maggie who had a sister she never talked about, a father she didn't acknowledge, and shrugged off attachments like it was a coat of nails. Little by little the layers of the onion that was Maggie were revealed while she also unconsciously started planting roots.
Then there was the mystery about the house and its original owners, pulling in the craggy old Wallace, the orphaned Cody whom she gave a purpose and home, the discovery of the unfinished manuscript and the hidden treasures, Kevin the bacon eating, puking dog. Add in Silas's blended, meddling family and the small town everyone knows your business. Plus, And that epilogue that wrapped up Silas and Maggie's story in a neat little bow.
I went through many emotions while I read this book. Lucy Freakin' Score knows how to elicit all those emotions with her amazing characters, flirty banter, the creation of a jigsaw puzzle family, and hot romance.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
