Many thanks to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the book. I have been a Lucy Score fan for several years now, especially her Blue Moon series so I'm always thrilled when a new one of hers comes out.
Maggie Moves On follows Maggie, a house flipper/renovator/YouTube star on her next project which is renovating a huge historical house in the tiny town of Kinship, Idaho. True to the title, Maggie never stays in one place for very long, always moving on to the next project. Enter hunky landscaper Silas, hilarious food thief Kevin and a bunch of other amazing people.
I had a hard time with Silas which is why I rated the book a 3.5. Alpha males and I aren't always BFFs, especially when he's this...something. It's cute when the guy falls first and it's cute when he's very much I'm going to marry you but at times it felt way too over the top and borderline creepy for me and for that, I had to lower my rating. There was something about his character in the first half of the book that really got to me.
I loved Maggie. I loved how she let her walls come down and let Silas, Wallace, Kevin, Cody and more into her life and her heart. I think she was a wonderful character and in the end, I am glad she and Silas got their HEA. He just grated on my nerves for a long long while.
Full of laughter, friendship, love, community, cranky old men and lovable creatures, Maggie Moves On is a fun read. It's a slow burn romance that will make you laugh out loud. I give it 3.5 stars. Maggie enters the world on June 21 and is available for pre-order now.
Maggie Moves On is HGTV meets History Channel in this fun romantic comedy set against an idyllic small town Idaho backdrop. Quirky townspeople? Check. Meddling family members? Double check. Lots of steam and chemistry? Triple check.
I absolutely adored this book! This was my first book by Lucy Score, but it certainly won't be my last. I was immediately drawn into the story and the amazing cast of characters had me genuinely invested in everyone's character arcs. While the book is longer than most romcoms, I honestly don't think I would take anything out. It was just so well done! I loved the comedy of Kevin the dog and the two kittens; I found myself cackling at any scene they entered.
YouTube superstar Maggie Nichols was such a badass heroine. She has a clear vision for everything but her life, yet keeps most people at arms length. I loved the banter and dynamic between Maggie and her business partner, Dean, which added comedy and heart. Quick witted (sometimes to a fault), Maggie is all about research and numbers, which I loved about her character. She has a huge sense of responsibility and duty to not let people down, which causes her to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders. I appreciated how the grief from her mother's death was portrayed, showing that even though much time has past, there is no time limit on the grieving process.
Handsome landscaper Silas was so over the top, but it just made me love him more. Falling fast for Maggie, I loved how he constantly wore her down, yet knew exactly what she needed in times of crisis. Silas is such a ray of sunshine, but calls Maggie on her shit. I loved his romantic heart and how he believed everything was a sign.
My favorite part of the book was the element of found family, not only with townspeople, but also between Maggie, Dean, and Cody. I loved seeing how Dean and Maggie took the troubled teen in without questions and the bond the three formed had me in tears at the end. This particular dynamic is not something you see very often, so it was an amazing addition to the book.
It's no surprise that I loved the history element thrown in with the Campbell residence mixed with the mystery of the hidden treasure. Even though the Campbells are long gone, they were very much a part of the story throughout. The ever grumpy Wallace had to be one of my favorite characters in the book. I loved how persnickety he was in the beginning with Maggie, but slowly warmed to her enough to be the voice of reason when she needed it most.
Maggie Move On is a workplace romantic comedy, with a side of forced proximity and one-sided insta-love. It celebrates inclusion and all love, even in a small town.
Thanks to the publisher for inviting me to read this. I may return to it at some point, but it just wasn't holding my interest. I was put off by the super insta-love and just felt that I wasn't going to be able to invest much in this couple and, therefore, the romance would end up feeling largely unearned.
Rating does not reflect a true opinion.
I love the worlds Lucy Score creates. The towns and characters are so well developed that you feel like you are right there in the story with them. This book was a sweet, fun read with flirty banter, heart, steam, and a bit of mystery. I loved how Silas knew immediately that Maggie was it for him and how Maggie grew throughout the book. The family Maggie created around her warmed my heart. This book will give you all the feels and leave you with a smile on your face!
I LOVED this book. I couldn’t believe it, but it just kept getting better the more I read! At 40% in, I started to get stressed that I only had 60% left - I didn’t want it to be over.. (And at the same time, the conclusion was so satisfying and beautifully done that I’ve made my peace with it. My heart is full from that ending.)
What was there not to love about this?? The chemistry and flirty banter were amazing. Silas and his confidence and charm seriously had me swooning. And I loved watching Maggie grow and evolve; it was really special watching her build a family, not to mention that the characters who comprised her found family were warm, colorful, and so easy to love.
This was my first Lucy Score book but it will absolutely not be the last - I’m fully obsessed.
Thank you for this digital ARC!
Rating:4.5
I absolutely loved reading about the aspect of flipping a house (kinda made me wanna buy my tools and renovate a bit lol) and i love love LOVED the found family in this book. The book really got me rooting for the side characters, even characters who were only really mentioned in one chapter (Like Marta). I loved the subversion of the grumpy and sunshine trope in this, with Dean being the grump instead of Silas.
All of this was all good and great, but I think my favorite part was the whole Canyon Treasure and uncovering the truth part. Going into this book, I didn't realize there would be any solving of century old mysteries, but this book did it so well, I really really enjoyed it. Although, I did guess a few of the mysteries early on, I still felt like I was vicariously living through Maggie, Silas, and Wallace (love that old grump btw) while they solved the case and uncovered the truths.
In terms of the romance, I really liked the whole opposites attract situation (and all the architectural memes). But insta love is not my fav trope, so I had to suspend my beliefs to think that the way Silas fell for her was something more than lust... Also, the main reason I took off half a star is because I didn't really like how the male MC came off as immature and childish and how the conflicts came up because of that. BUT, all the other characters' opinions were valid and true, AND they gave it off to him and explained his faults to him so he could understand, which I liked.

Steam Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (very descriptive sex scenes)
Trigger Warning: cheating
Maggie Nichols has built a successful YouTube career by flipping houses around the U.S. Now she's in Kinship, Idaho tackling her biggest project yet- The Old Campbell Place. As she begins her renovations, she uncovers clues about Mr. and Mrs. Campbell that could be huge for the small town. She also meets Silas Wright- the hot landscaper who is convinced that Maggie is his future wife. But Maggie has never wanted to put down roots or allow anyone rely on her. So why does she feel so connected to the mysteries in the Campbell Place as well as the allure of a future with Silas? Maybe this project will have a different ending than every other one in Maggie's career.
Let me start by saying that I know I have an unpopular opinion of this book. I also haven't read anything else by Lucy Score, so I don't know how this compares to her previous work. This wasn't a bad book, but for me it was just missing something. Silas and Maggie had steamy kisses and good chemistry, but I never felt invested in their romance. I want butterflies in my stomach, and I never felt that. Maybe the insta-love was partly responsible. I also didn't really get into the mystery, which wasn't really introduced until at least halfway through the book. What I did enjoy was the found family trope that was used heavily. It was great to see Silas's family be so welcoming towards Maggie, and I liked the dynamics of their big blended family. I also adored Cody- the high school student who Maggie takes under her wing. It was sweet to see his life turned as the book went on. I'm sure that most people will enjoy this steamy, insta-love story, but unfortunately it just wasn't a win for me.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Maggie Moves On is an HGTV inspired romance. I am not a huge fan of the HGTV romance trend but I figured I would give it a shot because I am a fan of Lucy Score.
Maggie Nichols is taking on the project of a life time. She is a is a you-tuber who tackles Fixer Up Home renovations. The old Campbell Place in Kinship, Idaho is the Project that is going to make or break her. She hires a team to help her with this historic property. What Maggie doesn’t count on is when her hot landscaper, Silas Wright, falls madly in love with her at first glance.
Silas is a guy who sticks. Silas has a bit of a come on strong personality, like almost Axe Body spray, sometimes less is more. I found Silas to be overbearing and a bit much. I hate that he really did not listen to Maggie. He would ignore her and just try to charm his way out of it. He sticks to Maggie like a fly in a sticky trap and at times I wanted to punch him for her.
Maggie was funny and very witty in this book. I really liked her and enjoyed her tremendously. Maggie has a lot of emotional baggage that was real and understandable. I am so glad her character arc had her facing that and to stop using her partner Dean as a crutch. I Maggie had so many moments that I felt like her character really flourished.
Silas’ family was a bright spot in this book alone with Kevin. I love a floof who adds to a story!
One of things that I really struggled with was the over descriptive nature of the writing. I know that Lucy Score can write a chunky book but at times there was too much. The description in the book about the house renovation had me skipping pages.
I did like how the author used the parallel of a “fixer upper” with both the house and for Maggie. It did create some very relatable responses and actions to situations. I struggled all with the over-the-top nature of the hero and the way he seems to steamroll over Maggie’s. The Narration of the story and writing was the quality I expect from the author, but it did seem a bit long and overly descriptive for no reason. What I didn’t like about this book was the instant love/attraction. Silas was just to much for me.
If you are looking for a books with found family, a meddling dog, a grumpy old man and even a little mystery, but are also a lover of the DIY show you might want to check it out.
Thank you Netgalley and Forever for the opportunity to read an early copy of Maggie Moves On. I loved this book! This was my first time reading a book from Lucy Score. I am definitely buying this book when it comes out. I cannot wait to read other books by Lucy Score
I wanted so bad to like this book. I tried. But Silas made it very difficult for me. I couldn't handle him. I like alpha male and banters, but it made me feel so annoyed at his character. He came off as a jerk more than flirtatious. I like the fact that he liked her at first sight, but declared to Maggie that she is his future wife was kind of quick. Come on! Then after after three "dates" (his word not mine) and passionate kisses, he already assumed that he owned her, act as an overprotective boyfriend and overbearing and demanding and imposing. I felt that the connection was forced. Not the kind of alpha male that will give me butterflies in my tummy. Story was a bit slow and can't keep up with Silas' pacing.
I really enjoyed this one and am totally a sucker for home improvement show based books! This book had a little bit of everything in it! And, I’m pretty sure every person who lived in this small town was a character in the book.
I loved the electric cast of characters that Maggie informally adopts during her stay. To say they were a lively bunch in totally understating it. And I love how they showed her what a found family truly is and the connections that she was missing in her life.
And the best connection, the hot landscaper, Silas. If Silas had just turned down his love/lust/enthusiasm about 10% he would be the perfect book boyfriend. But I found him just slightly overbearing. But with cute dog Kevin as his sidekick, I can definitely see the attraction.
This was really a lot more than a romance. It was definitely a book about finding yourself and your people and taking time to enjoy your life and not just accomplishing a checklist. But don’t get me wrong, there definitely was romance and Silas was raised right with consent, respect and mutual gratification.
Great read as usual from Lucy Score!!
I requested this book from NetGalley and these are my honest opinions.
This author has the unique ability of creating a story where you not only fall in the love with the main characters of the book but, also the place, the side characters and in this instance, a dog named Kevin. I honestly don't know how she does it but I think Kevin is one of my all-time favorite Lucy Score characters! If you haven't already had the opportunity of reading any of this author's books, what are you waiting for? She is a word genius and her mind is a fantastical place of wonder!
"Maggie Moves On" is an outstanding, brilliant, heartwarming, and hilarious romantic comedy with lots of heat! I immediately fell in love with our hero, Silas, just as he fell instantly in love with Maggie. I consider myself a pretty avid reader and no other author, in my opinion, depicts and writes a story quite like Lucy Score. Her descriptions are so vivid of every little detail and I can't recommend this book or this author enough! THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!
Maggie Moves On was a funny small town romcom with lots going on. Silas and Maggie’s characters I adored. The endless banter was so well written by Lucy Score. I have never read about a house flipper who’s a YouTube star before this book. Between the secondary characters, the dog, and throw in a little mystery, this book was just what I needed to read to get me out of my slump. I really enjoyed Maggie’s journey and growth throughout the book. Thank you to Netgally for giving me the opportunity to read this early. I look forward to reading more enjoyable stories from Lucy Score.
Do you believe in signs and fate? I do, and so does Silas. He knows as soon as he sees Maggie that she was brought to him for a reason and he's going to marry that girl one day. Even if Maggie is set against marriage and settling down.
Maggie and her partner Dean have a home improvement show on YouTube with almost a million followers. She buys old houses and fixes them up and tells their story. This one will be her capstone, the one she works hardest on, the one that means the most. That is, if she can tackle it. It's her biggest renovation to date but she is determined to get it done and get out of town onto the next one. What she doesn't count on is the hot landscape guy, Silas, foiling all her plans.
Silas has always had his roots in Idaho, and he has a strong family bond, but as soon as he sees Maggie, he knows he would throw caution to the wind and follow her anywhere. When their fling starts to feel like more, will she run or will she finally stay and face all the things she has been running from.
Maggie has a lot of emotional baggage and she has been dumping that on her partner Dean for years, using him as a crutch. I was so happy with Maggie's sense of growth in this book, she had so many eye opening moments that I felt like her character really blossomed. I loved Silas from the start because any man that is as smitten as he was from the get go, just reels me right in. Home renovations make me a little anxiety ridden but I thought it was so fun that Maggie had a totally different take on how to tackle them than I ever would.
Thank you to Grand Central, Lucy Score and Netgalley for an early copy.
I really wanted to love Maggie Move On. The synopsis sounded so cute - a house flipper finds her next job in a cute small town & meets a sexy landscaper - yes! Except I didn't really feel any chemistry between Maggie and Silas and for me there was too much insta-love. I've read and really enjoyed a Lucy Score book in the past, but I just wasn't feeling this one.
A solid rom com from Lucy Score - this book found the balance between getting laughs and not being too over the top. I really enjoyed the home renovation aspect, the B plot regarding the previous owners, Silas' blended family and the animal side characters. Maggie and Silas were very well developed and it was great seeing them both realize they need to bend a bit to make a relationship work. The insta-love on Silas' end was a little much for me, but that's definitely a personal preference. I've read a few of Lucy's previous books, but I will absolutely be checking out more of her backlist.
I think this was my first Lucy Score book, but it won't be my last. It's an adorable rom-com centered around a reality youtube star. It was such a quick read because you genuinely will not want to put it down.
4/5 Stars

3.5 stars
Listen, this book has so many things that I do really love about it. There's an amazing found family, home renovations, adorable animal companions, and a grumpy old man whose cold heart eventually thaws through the power of friendship.
However, I honestly feel like the actual romance got pretty lost in the weeds amidst everything that this book was doing. We get some really aggressive insta-love on the part of our hero Silas and because he and Maggie get together very early on in the book, there's not a lot of build and there's not a lot of tension. Instead, here is basically one overarching conflict that spawns a number of smaller conflicts that are quickly resolved between the two. On top of that, the book frankly felt like it was more of Silas' story than it was about Maggie (especially considering that her name is in the title). In the end, I didn't really connect with them as a couple despite the fact that I enjoyed what we got of their individual characters immensely. I'd be interested in reading something else of Score's, but this one just didn't make me swoon.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review!
So this book was very insta-lovey, which is a trope I don't usually love (I live for the drama and angst, basically) but Lucy Score is incredible and wrote it in a way that I was head over heels obsessed with. Silas was SO dreamy and he was absolutely obsessed with Maggie, and I ate it UP.
I don't know what it was about this book but I just connected with it. It gave me so many Stars Hollow(Gilmore girls) vibes with its colorful characters, a cat mayor, and small town charm.
Maggie is a social media celebrity with her fixer up type show, and she goes from town to town fixing and flipping homes. Her latest project, in Kinship Idaho, is a huge home with lots of history and secrets.
Maggie is strong willed, witty, funny and even though she tries to hide it, has a generous and nurturing heart. She unwittingly creates this beautiful found family with some of the most memorable side characters ever. From the grumpy old Wallace, to the floundering teenager Cody, people just gravitate towards her.
Especially the very smitten Silas. He is the landscaper on Maggie's project. Insta love isn't normally my favorite, but I dare you to not be charmed by Silas. He is endearing and confident without being cocky. His relationship with his siblings and parents is hilarious and heartwarming. And he doesn't tiptoe around his feelings. He owns then. Embraces them and makes them very clear.
The immediate allure between Silas and Maggie is so fun. So much great banter and flirting. I just loved them.
This is only my second book by this author but I will definitely be trying some more of her books.
