Thank you to Netgalley and Forever for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Lucy Score did it again! This is my second Lucy Score book (after Things we never got over) and I've given them both 5 stars. She is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors and I can't wait to read more of her work. Maggie Moves On has such a charming small-town vibe which I've recently found to be one of my new favorite tropes. I loved the community Lucy created and I fell in love with each and every character we met in town. Books like this make me wish I lived in a small town and could feel that sense of community.
Maggie was an over-thinker but she was also extremely creative and just wanted to find a place she belonged. She's hard-working and not afraid to get her hand dirty. I loved that she was a YouTuber with an HGTV-type channel. Silas was extremely confident and flirty which was really fun to witness. He was also very sweet and protective which was incredibly endearing. Together they had great flirtatious banter and chemistry. The spicy scenes were also a lot of fun to read! I absolutely loved Maggie and Silas as main characters but they were even better together!
I also have to mention Kevin. Anytime main characters have a pet, especially a goofy one, it just adds so much to the book and always makes me smile. In this case, Kevin is the best king of comedic relief. This book just has so much character and it's very charming and fun in its own way. I loved every second of my reading experience.
This book is magic!
Lucy Score has the ability to write stories that feel like a hug. Every single character has a place in this book and you fall in love with each one of them.
Maggie and Silas are a perfect pairing. It's a love at first sight romance (well for one of them at least) and throughout the book, they are constantly challenging one another. Maggie has made a name for herself flipping homes and moving on (hence the title) for her YouTube channel. So when she takes on her biggest task yet, a landmark mansion in Idaho, she assumes it will be a one-and-done project like the other projects.
Silas, the "hot landscaper" has other plans for Maggie. Instantly he is drawn to her and wants this project to be the one that makes her put roots down. His dog, Kevin, a large too smart pitbull, adds humor throughout the book with his large personality.
The romance element was fantastic, to be expected from Lucy Score! I appreciated that she gave the other characters their love stories as well. You fall in love with Kinship, Idaho, and the community that rallies around their own. The characters are bright and warm with a small-town setting that will make you fall in more in love .
Maggie is a fiercely independent house flipping YouTube superstar with almost 1 million subscribers. She hopes her next project, a historic mansion in Idaho known to the locals as the Old Campbell Place, will push her over that milestone. She hires local businesses to help with the renovation and that’s how she meets Silas, the sexy confident landscaper, who pushes her out of her comfort zone and says he is her future husband. Unfortunately, besides planning out her next house to flip, Maggie doesn’t make plans for the future because she’s always moving on.
As always with Lucy’s books the side characters, including the pets, add so much to the story that it wouldn’t be complete without them. Plus, the added mystery woven throughout is the cherry on top. Maggie is imperfect but Silas loves her, understands her and takes care of her even when she doesn’t think she needs help. This is a story about learning to forgive and allowing yourself to be happy, loving the family you choose and following your dreams. I absolutely adore Lucy Score’s writing and this book is no different. I could not stop smiling.
Maggie Moves On is a small town romance that left a smile on my face. This book is the sweetest insta-love, slow-burn that has ever happened. Doesn't everyone need a Silas and Dean in your life?
This book is not only about love, it is more about friendship and finding family. Whether that family is the one you are born into, or the found family you choose and pick up along the way. Lucy Score normalizes both of these types of families and I loved her portrayal of Silas's blended family, it was so well done.
All individual characters in this book are so well done too. Maggie and Silas are their own people and well developed, but not only them, the side characters like Dean, Cody and Silas's family are so well developed. I absolutely loved Kevin, the rescue dog, who became a parent to the two adorable kittens.
The home renovation show, using contractors in the communities she visits, was a perfect backdrop for this book. It allowed for the quirky cast of characters to be introduced and let us get lost in the small town of Kinship.
The one thing I struggled with was the ending of the book and how it ended a little after, I felt it should. There is a mystery in the book, which adds to the story, but how it wrapped up after the romance wrapped up didn't work for me. I did like the added mystery, and the fact that it wasn't hugely encapsulating the story, but it was there enough to just add to things. I also found the end of "snippets", rather than an epilogue was different than I'm used to.
This is my first Lucy Score book, but it will not be my last. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever publishing for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.
This book had all the makings of the best Hallmark movies. Girl ends up in small town to restore a fixer upper—meets cute landscaper Silas. Both try so hard to keep it business as usual.
But you know, of all the best romance tropes, proximity makes for an alluring plot line.
While a 3rd person POV was unexpected for this genre, I think it worked! This is my first book by thus author and I’ll be checking out more! Lots of fun!
I adore this book. Maggie Nichols is in her 30s and flips houses while showcasing the flips on YouTube. She comes to the small town of Kinship, Idaho and chooses an old victorian home on a hill as her next project. She is successful because she is extremely organized and hard working. She hires local crews for the work she can’t do herself. Silas Wright is the sexy landscaper she hires to bring her outside dreams to life for the house. He is easy going and has a rescue pit bull named Kevin that deserves his own mention.
This has the funnest, quick, flirting and banter between Maggie and Silas. And when he wears her down to going on a date with a contractor things can get hotter than hot. Silas and Maggie are now one of my favorite book couples. But this more than a romance. This novel has many wonderful storylines; what means to be a family, a down on it luck town that takes care of its own, a mystery of a gold heist, and taking the time to relax and enjoy. It is also inclusive with minorities and LGBTQ representation. I got misty eyed over a high school graduation celebration and laughed more times than I can count. The only downside is it felt a little long. But it wrapped everything up so nicely I’m not complaining.
I am new to Lucy Score but now I know how she can write I am going to be looking for other books by her. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
My first Lucy Score and I’m in love! I grabbed this arc on a whim because I love a reno romance! This ended up being much more than that - there was humor (so much humor), open door romance, self-discovery, home renovation, found family and a bit of a Wild West gold theft unsolved mystery. I enjoyed the romance but felt that Silas read a little younger than his age - totally loved him though. My favorite part was found family, I absolutely loved that theme and Lucy really nailed that sense of small town community and family in its many forms. Based on this read, I’m definitely going to dig into her backlog. Super funny, sexy and meaningful-themed romances are hard to find, so if her others are like Maggie Moves On, I might have a new favorite author!
I've read a handful of Lucy Score's books, and honestly, they were just okay for me. I'm not sure why I decided to read Maggie Moves On, but I am so happy I did. I absolutely LOVED the sexy/hot/dirty/cute landscaper guy Silas; the quirky heroine - Maggie; the hilarious side-kick, Dean; and my favorite - Kevin, the adorable dog with a fantastic personality that stole the spotlight. This was an enjoyable, humorous, and sexy romance laced with heartwarming touching moments and witty banter between the couple. One of this author's best works. Five stars!!
Maggie’s a house flipper/renovator and a successful social media influencer. Along with her best (only) friend Dean, they created weekly videos for Youtube about their current project. They only stay in town until the house is done and sold.
But now Dean thinks he’s ready to settle down and maybe find a husband.
But Maggie loves her tumbleweed lifestyle, never being tied to one place or even to a person.
Until sexy Silas, the hot landscaper, with a therapy school drop out dog named Kevin, decides that Maggie’s his person and it’s only a matter of time before she realizes it too.
MAGGIE MOVES ON is very much about finding/making family and creating a community.
This had a Hallmark movie feel but with extra spiciness added. In addition to the romance, this has a secondary mystery involving a stagecoach robbery in the past, missing gold coins, and the author who had the original house built.
Fast pace, lots charm, lots of lols, some incredibly tender moments along with serious amounts of heat.

Any DIY-er will absolutely love this title. The characters were wonderful and personally, I wanted to get my hands on that house! It was a great story and will make a wonderful beach read. Perhaps it will even inspire some redecorating!
It pains me deep in my soul to give Lucy Score a mediocre 3 star rating, but Maggie Moves On just did not work for me. There’s just something about Score’s work that is just overly long (I had the same issue with Things We Never Got Over), and the book dragged on a bit. I’m talking snails pace! & while I love a slow burn, this too seemed even more drawn out than usual AND Maggie & Silas just didn’t have that spark I was expecting. PLUS Silas is douche-y 🤷🏻♀️
I loved every single thing about this book. I loved all the characters (there are a lot, but introduced in a way that never felt overwhelming) I loved the romance, the mysteries of the house, the town, the people in it. Seriously everything. This book was on the longer side, and I still could have read more. The ending just made me smile, while at the same time I was bummed it was over. Lucy freaking Score nailed this one. If you've never read her, be ready to go thru her whole catalog after you read this one and fall in love. It's that good
Fixer Upper is my favorite home reno show and Maggie Moves on gave me that. Silas has me SWOONING. It's just one of those books that make you feel all warm and fuzzy. I feel good, funny take on house flipping culture. Obsessed with this one. Lucy Score does it again.
I love the genre rom com and especially some tropes. But my least favorite trope is ‘love at frost sight’. It just seems too fake for lasting relationship in my opinion. But this author made it work! I love Silas and the way he owns his feelings for Maggie and also let’s her set the pace in their relationship. Also who doesn’t love the premise of home renovation tv show in a storyline!!! Maggie and Dean’s co partnership of their business makes this book so fun with their witty banter. Highly recommend this book!
The quick, fun and steamy read I’ve been waiting for! A lighthearted romance between a local landscaper and famous YouTube house renovator set in Idaho gives you a happy place to escape to that you wish really existed, along with its characters. This is the first of Lucy’s books I’ve read, but I am so excited for more in the future! And if I had a dog, I’d want it to be like Kevin!
4.5/5 (rounded up) ☆
I love Lucy Score, plain and simple. Her books never fail to put a smile on my face and that is exactly how finished Maggie Moves On - happy and satisfied. Big thank you to the publisher, Read Forever Publishing, and NetGalley for the ARC!
This book follows Maggie, a YouTube star nearing 1M subscribers, who's content focuses on flipping houses and performing renovations. Her latest project takes her to Kinship, Idaho, a small town where she meets Silas Wright, a sexy landscaper, who is immediately taken by her once they meet. I absolutely LOVED the way Silas flirted with Maggie - he is a protective partner and is so, so charming.
Silas's blended family is what really sealed the deal here for me. Their family dynamic just works so well and I loved every interaction we saw whether it was with Michael or Niri or with his parents. They really represent what family is and should be. I loved that Maggie got to be a part of that and was able to share it with Dean and eventually, her sister and father.
Lucy Score's writing is one of my favorites and that's saying a lot for someone who does not read third person often. Her storylines are always so interesting, the characters (even the side ones) are so vibrant, and everything is paced so well. Overall, I really enjoyed this read and read it within a day. Very grateful to have received this ARC!
I’ve been hearing a lot about Lucy Score and seeing her all over booksta, so when I saw the cover art and read the premise for this one and saw it was a Read Now on NetGalley I couldn’t resist jumping at the chance to try. This was an okay read for me, but a bit of a mixed bag overall.
Things I enjoyed:
• Small Town Romance – Kinship, Idaho sounded so fun. Loved the ‘feel’ and people of the town
• Home Renovations / HGTV vibes – loved that Maggie had her own show (she’s a YouTube star) fixing up old homes
• Kevin – that loveable and big personality, pitbull was an easy favorite. I love pets featured in reads
• Couple in their thirties (I feel like most I encounter are in their twenties, so this felt refreshing)
• Sunshine Grump (with Maggie being the Grump and Silas the Sunshine)
Things that didn’t mesh as well for me:
• The pacing – the story was a long one and felt too long? I think there were in some ways too many things and not enough going on. The story dragged at times for me, which took me out of the story some.
• Silas – I had mixed feelings and reactions to our hero. Some things I liked: his sunny disposition, his family relationships, his charm. Others were harder for me: he came on really strong (instalove), was a bit presumptuous and possessive – it kind of rubbed me the wrong way at times.
Like I said, had some good and some wishes for me. I would definitely try more from the author, but I didn’t immediately click with this particular story. I think plenty of others will find it more in line with their taste, and fans of the author will definitely enjoy.
Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review and I am so grateful!
Gah - it is so hard for me to give a Lucy Score book a bad review. I love all of this author's books! Things We Never Got Over (the release prior to this one) is my all time favourite, so when I saw an ARC available for Maggie Moves On, I was so excited.
Home Renos, Social Media, Love, an adorable Pit Bull - what's not to love? Well sadly, I have been stuck at 50% read for months and it was kind of a struggle to get here so i've ultimate decided to DNF. The chemistry between Maggie and Silas feels off, I didn't get invested in any of the characters, and I felt like nothing much happened in the first half.
Lucy Score tends to be more slow burn but this was glacial and kinda unbelievable. Silas and Maggie just didn't click for me and their relationship felt forced. In terms of the plot, again, not much moved forward. Sorry Lucy!! This book just wasn't for me, despite wanting to love it so much.
This is my first Lucy Score but it definitely will not be my last. I absolutely loved this book. The characters are absolutely lovely and quirky. I also really enjoyed the different types of love explored in the book. I think this part was done very well.
“You are the surprise of the lifetime.”
OMG, I absolutely LOVED Maggie Moves On. I’ll admit that I usually love Lucy Score books, but this is one of my new faves. Maggie and Silas (and Kevin) are so much fun as are the entire town of Kinship.
“Silas Wright was a distraction all by his handsome self.”
Maggie is a no-nonsense girl who has built her own brand as a YouTuber remodeling and selling houses. She only stays in one place long enough to finish the house and immediately moves on to her next project. She doesn’t get attached and believes the only one she can truly rely on is herself.
“I heard wedding bells when I saw her for the first time.”
Silas is the charmingly hot landscaper who instantly falls for Maggie. The minute he sees her, he believes she’s meant to be his future wife. Silas is the complete opposite of Maggie. He lives for roots and family ties and complicated feelings. He’s determined to surround Maggie with a community and friendships and love that will make it difficult for her to move on this time.
“I’ve been waiting my entire life to find home. And I found one. I made one. Here. With you.”
I could not get enough of these two. Their banter was both hilarious and heartwarming and they had a sizzling chemistry. Silas is so patient with Maggie and helps her break out of her shell to become the loving woman she has always been. They slowly develop a believable and intimacy throughout the book that will warm your heat.
Maggie Moves On made me laugh and gave me all the feels. Full of quirky characters, small town charm, heartfelt situations and so much heart and heat, Silas and Maggie and the town of Kinship is not to be missed.
