Lucy Score does it again with another spectacular book. Maggie Moves On was unlike any other book I've read, all the common tropes were there but they each had their own little twist.
Silas fell for Maggie instantly, but Maggie was already gearing up to leave as soon as she arrived in Kinship, Idaho. However, renovating a mansion doesn't take weeks, it takes time that allows for people like Silas to break down the walls Maggie has placed around her.
Maggie grew so much throughout the entire book especially with her relationship with Dean and Silas. Maggie's fears and insecurities made her do so many things to protect herself and learning what fuels those fears, Maggie has to decide whether to let them control her or to face them head on.
One small but big think I enjoyed in this book was all the ways it handled relationships and families. Lucy Score could have stuck with traditional relationships but instead included the relationships people have. Found family was a wonderful theme of the characters in this book and how each found Maggie was so wonderful and heartwarming
My favorite kind of book,! Laugh out loud romantic comedy that ticks all the boxes. If you like witty dialogue with minimal inner dialogue, crazy wonderful side characters and lots of feels, then this book is for you. It has the right amount of heat too. The love screens show the connection of the main characters instead of being gratuitous.
Lucy Score is one of my favorite authors and this book set in a small town in Idaho does not disappoint. The hero aka sexy landscaper guy is very funny and instantly knows that the heroine house flipper new to town is the one for him. Highly recommend!
This book is perfect for fans of HGTV or Chip and Joanna Gaines. It's a cute love story of a YouTube home flipper and a local contractor, but it's also randomly a mystery and a family drama? I absolutely loved the way Maggie seemed to just collect people who needed love and give them a place to call home. It was a little spicier than I anticipated, so heads up about that. And there were a few random twists towards the end that felt pretty out of the blue. But overall it was an enjoyable read!
I absolutely adored this book! I thought the main characters and many of the supporting characters were well-developed and the story was easy to follow. Kevin the dog and his kittens were adorably hilarious. Lucy Score does an excellent job with pacing and describing scenes & interactions so that you can form a good picture and really understand what’s happening.
You get a great sense of the love within Sila’s non-conventional family, as well as the relationship between Maggie and her assistant, Dean. There were several smaller storylines that helped keep the reader interested, and each was easy to follow. I enjoyed the brief wrap-up for certain characters at the very end.

“You flirt like it’s your first language.”
Silas and Maggie are a dynamic duo! She’s determined not to be tied down, and he’s got wedding bells in his eyes! (Anyone else ADORE when the hero falls first?)
Maggie is a successful home renovation YouTuber who chooses to flip a nightmare of a house in Kinship, Idaho. Needing to widen her team to get the project done on time, she enlists the services of one Silas Wright. (Mr. Wright, to be exact.)
Silas just so happens to have the nuttiest family in the whole state, a pooch who failed therapy dog school, and a soft spot for sledgehammer wielding DIY-ers.
“You can’t wait for everyone to be comfortable when it comes to you living your life. You’re the only one who gets to live it. So you might as well do what you want.”
Through construction mishaps, a rafting trip against her will, and a slew of townspeople singing his praises, Silas slowly wears Maggie down.
“Where is the adventure in finding oneself if one uses someone else’s map?”
10/10! It’s absolutely everything I love about Lucy books! I adored all the Lucy-verse cameos! Vicky from Rock Bottom Girl, Cat King, “Mrs. Nolan”, and a romance author who eats fast food in a closet to meet deadlines! I cannot wait to camp out at my local bookstore and snatch up a paperback in June!

Loved this book. Maggie and Silas are the couple that I never knew I needed.
Maggie is a famous house flipper who doesn't like to make connections or plant any roots. That is until Silas, aka Hot Landscaper Guy, comes along. He falls hard and he falls fast.
The development of their relationship over the course of the book was just great. She needed Silas and he was able to show her how to slow down and have the life that she really wants.
Thank you NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Score another win for Lucy!
This book rocks! Author Lucy Score has upped her game in her newest book, "Maggie Moves On."
Maggie Nichols is a house renovator with her own TV show called "Building Dreams with Maggie."
With her partner, Dean, Maggie buys properties, fixes them up, sells them, then moves on to her next project. From the beginning, it’s obvious Maggie and Dean have a history, which is revealed as the story moves forward.
When the story opens, Maggie has just sold a property in Oregon. She has already moved on to her next project, the Old Campbell Place, in Kinship, Idaho. Dean is not impressed with her choice, and emphatically voices his concerns over all the things that can, and probably will go wrong.
This house is full of intrigue. It’s practically begging for someone to fix it up, love it, and tell its story. Maggie is the perfect one to do that.
In the process of hiring sub-contractors, Silas Wright, the owner of the landscaping company she decides to use, immediately declares he is smitten with her and that he’ll be marrying her. Maggie keeps reminding Silas that when the project is finished, she will be moving on because moving on is what she does.
"Maggie Moves On" has a little bit of everything - mystery, intrigue, a love story, renewed faith in human kindness, and laughter. Maggie learns a lot about herself and you, as the reader, just might learn something about yourself, too.
If you’re not familiar with Lucy Score’s books, "Maggie Moves On" is the perfect place to start. If you have read any of her other works, you won’t be disappointed with this one.
Over the last few years Lucy Score has become one of my favorite authors, with books that are so relatable and definitely provoke all the feelings. Maggie Moves On is perhaps one of her best yet. Though Rock Bottom Girl will always be my favorite, Maggie Moves On is a close second. The books heroine, Maggie, comes to life right off the page as both hilarious and perfectly flawed. She's a flipper with a YouTube show who has been through some things in life that make it hard for her to to rely on anyone but herself and maybe her best friend and ex-husband, Dean, who produces her show. Her strong independent and stubborn streaks combined with her trust issues made her immensely relatable for me and also were a slightly uncomfortable mirror in some ways. Her clumsiness and tendency toward awkward moments throughout the book was both hilarious and endearing. Silas (Sy), the book's hero, was the perfect match for Maggie - just as stubborn as Maggie, if not more so, he is sure from the beginning that Maggie is it for him, and immediately sets about winning her over. Sy's self assurance is sexy, even when it borders on cocky, and you can feel the sparks between him and Maggie immediately. Though I do admit watching someone who has always had things come easily to him work so hard to inpress Maggie made me love him even more. Sy's family and Maggie's best friend Dean stand out as lovable secondary characters and along with a few others, and the additional mystery tied to the old house was a nice addition to the plot. Once again Lucy Score has created a world where I want to live with people I want to be friends with, akin to the Blue Moon Series in that regard. This book had me emotionally invested early on, and I definitely shed a few tears, but ultimately the HEA was worth the read. I also loved the small shoutouts to other Lucy Score books via the comments on Maggie's social media throughout the book.
I love Lucy Score and her writing. I also love how she writes about a small town and their community, especially how they rally around each other. I can also appreciate that this author loves writing long books, which I generally do not mind. But here's the thing, for me anyway, this book was too long to get to the root of the history on the mansion that Maggie is flipping.
I love me a strong female lead, which Maggie has in spades, but boy does she have abandonment issues, but rightfully so, and therefore she feels she shouldn't depend on anyone, especially the hot landscaper that is helping out with the flip, Silas.
Who knew a 6'4" alpha landscaper can be so romantic and believe in signs, etc.? Silas made his intentions towards Maggie from the very beginning. Which also, I love when the men are the ones to fall hard for the female lead. It's sexy.
Like I stated above, although the author is known for long books, this one in particular could have been a bit shorter. I know, I know. Also, I don't mind third person writing, Ms. Score does that well. I was and if I am going to be honest, still confused about Silas's family dynamics. I love the blended family/diversity. I am still confused regarding his parents/step-parents situation. But you know what, however they all met, or hooked up, it works.
I want to thank the publishers for the advance read.
Loved this sweet story! Just the right amount of humor and angst. You can't NOT root for these characters. Lucy Score is an awesome story teller. I look forward to each book from her!
Lucy Freaking Score does it again y'all! (Insert GIF of kid smiling and pointing finger knowingly)
First of all, holy Batman! Where can I find a guy like Silas, aka Hot Landscape Guy??? Secondly, I'm Maggie. Well not really. I don't renovate or have a YouTube channel. But, I do choke on my own spit, over think a lot of things, and find it hard to really let someone in. Although, I'm a work in progress & so far have found my tribe of beautiful women friends/soul sisters. But my point is, I related to Maggie so much! Lucy does such a beautiful job of painting you this wonderful story full of love, life lessons & funny, loveable, adorable characters. As usual of course, but yet so different. This story will touch your heart and make it bigger & fuller, because yes, it's that darn good. I 100% recommend to all this 10 star read!
This book was really hard for me because I really wanted to like it! It had all the touches of things I should like - I love deep dives into topics I don't know (house flipping). The banter for the most part was fine. But I could not get past the main characters. I didn't like them at all and so the book dragged in a way I haven't seen books drag in a long time.
It wrapped up nicely but something about the pacing for me just did not work out at all.
Lucy Score hit it out of the park with this novel! Maggie and Silas are both such lovable people and their story flows together so well. Loved Silas from the start and his dog, Kevin, is the best side kick that you will root for from the start. Maggie’s background is slowly revealed throughout the story, getting small glimpses that build into the full reveal that just leaves you wanting a happily ever after for her. Will Maggie give in to her feelings for Silas and settle down or will she move on to her next big project as she has built her life around?
The cast of characters fit in so well with side stories, Dean, Michael, Cody, Wallace, and the whole town and crews adding zest to this book. I want to move to Kinship and join the crew!
I’m an avid Lucy Score reader! Her books are funny - laugh out loud - tears in my eyes so I can’t see the words on the page - funny! They are also heartfelt, where my heart squeezes, and usually I mutter an awwww - or several. There are wonderful quirky characters, a sense of community, love, and hot times throughout.
Maggie Moves On is a stand alone romcom with a woman, Maggie, who doesn’t stop. At ALL! Always on the go, because she feels she has to prove herself worthy. Silas is a hot, sexy, landscaper who is one of the local contractors Maggie employs for her DIY YouTube video series. He is laid back, flirty, and a damn nice guy.
As I read Maggie Moves On, I was entertained with the entire check list of a Lucy Score story. While it didn’t grip my heart with angst as some of her stories do, I found myself cheering Silas on in his pursuit of Maggie. There is a wonderful, eclectic cast of supporting characters, that at some points I had to refer back to who was married/attached to whom. The dog and kittens stole every scene they were in! I loved them. Would I read this again? Absolutely!!! Do I recommend this book to you? With the assurance you will enjoy it and want to read her backlist of books!!!
This is my voluntary review of the advance copy of Maggie Moves On.
I think this books is not completely finished. There were some story lines that looked like they stopped and started in the middle (the notes at the end talked about Kayla and Elton, and we didn't see that anywhere in there). The story line with her dad was great, but I could have used more development on that. The cabinet factory seemed like it was going to be a bigger feature, since it was dropped hints throughout. I liked it but didn't love it.
Very fun, easy read. The characters were fun and as expected in a “romcom”. The mystery in the plot kept the story moving.
This book was so cute! I might have a huge crush on Silas. There was a good blend of the home improvement plot with the historical mystery and the romance between Maggie and Silas. Plus a nice found family trope which I always enjoy. Overall the book had everything I was looking for and I highly recommend! Thanks for to publisher and NetGalley for the gifted copy.
Maggie Moves On follows Maggie, a woman who renovates houses and Silas who runs a construction crew. Maggie purchases the old Campbell place which is in dire need of repairs. She hires Silas and his company to help restore the home. A whole slew of supporting characters help make this story a delight. Maggie and Silas start a romance and there's even a hidden treasure in store. The book was entertaining and the characters were likeable.
Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for an advanced e-copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is my first Lucy Score novel but I’ve seen many of her books all over bookstagram and tik tok! I was so excited to read this ARC and I was not let down. It was so full of heart and I really enjoyed my reading experience!
Maggie Moves On takes the cake for getting me invested in home flipping/renovations. As someone who does not enjoy watching house flipping shows, I was a little wary about the premise. I was pleasantly surprised that the renovations weren’t super significant to the story but everything that was talked about was interesting and described in a way that allowed the reader to envision the transformation.
Maggie was an awesome FMC. She’s confident, smart, runs her own business and doesn’t take shit from anyone. I loved the initial chapters where Maggie was interacting with her business partner, Dean and her soon to be landscaper/love interest, Silas. The banter she had with both guys was hilarious and really showcased her personality.
SILAS. The Hot Landscaper. I was obsessed with this man. I loved that Silas was 37 and Maggie was 34 in this book! Ok back to Silas. DAMN. He knows what he’s doing. In more ways than one. I loved that he made his interest in Maggie known right off the hop but was so charming and not overbearing. He was written with all women who’s love language is either acts of service or words of affirmation in mind. He was so selfless and while slightly an alpha asshole at times (not complaining), he was still sweet and loving.
I loved how the author developed Maggie and Silas’ relationship. It was so mature and realistic. I loved how as the book progressed we got a glimpse into normal things they did together on a daily basis. I find these aspects of romance novels often get skipped and this was refreshing to read about.
Aside from the wonderful romance in this book, familial relationships were such a huge theme. As soon as we get introduced to Kinship, Idaho we get a sense of close ties in the town. Then when we meet Silas’ family we really get a sense of strong family bonds in this book. I loved that it wasn’t only family ties that were emphasized but also found/chosen family. Cody and Wallace were such great side characters.
The one aspect of Maggie Moves On that I didn’t enjoy was the house mystery plot. I think it dragged the story out when it didn’t need to be that long and added an extra story line that I found was boring. It didn’t add anything for me and I found myself wanting to skip ahead of those parts.
This was a fun read that had me laughing and smiling A LOT. I would recommend this for fans of small town romance, grumpy x sunshine, HGTV and some steam.
Overall, I’m happy that I finally read a book by Lucy Score. Maggie Movies On was a delight and I will definitely be reading more form this author!
Okay so I loved this book! I've read a few other Lucy Score books in the past and really liked them, but I think this is my favorite so far.
Maggie was one of those characters that you can't not love. We stan a woman who chases after her goals, gives love and kindness freely and who also buys all home goods she sees (anyone who has been to Target can relate). I liked her journey throughout the book and thought the way her family story line was introduced was really lovely.
Silas was a dreamboat and I loved his dog. It cracked me up that he decided upon first meeting her that she was the one and wasn't shy about letting her know it. I also loved that he could read her so well and made sure her needs (even if those were just to be alone for a while) were taken care of. His gift giving was super swoony - it wasn't even giant things, but we all love to know we have been thought of. I also really enjoyed his believing of signs and the way that was wrapped up with Maggie at the end.
I really appreciated the side treasure hunt story and thought it was integrated well!
