Tropes: enemies to lovers and marriage of convenience
This is a dual pov, enemies to lovers romance between two former high school rivals. Posy and Lucas were complete opposites in high school and after meeting again years later at their school reunion, it seems as though nothing has changed. When Posy gets cut off from her family’s money and Lucas’s business is months away from failing, the two decide to enter into a marriage of convenience thinking it will solve both of their problems.
The romance is a slow burn with the leads not getting together until over halfway through the book. I love a good marriage of convenience but this book slightly missed the mark for me. I would’ve liked to see more of Posy and Lucas warming up to one another before getting together.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
DNF at 30%. I found the MCs to be very immature and got so tired of the constant whining of how life is so unfair. I don’t think I am the right demographic for this book.
This book just wasn't for me. I found the plot to be absurd and stale and the main characters to be extremely unlikable. Some cute moments but honestly I wasn't a fan.
This book follows former school enemies Posy and Lucas as they reconnect at their school reunion.
The school has an age old by law that states that if a head boy and girl get married then the school will fit the bill - cash strapped and running a struggling business they agree to team up and fake getting married to pocket the cash.
It was a fun romcom but both of the main characters were unlikeable and I need to like at least one of them in order to root for them. I didn’t think they had any chemistry and didn’t care if they ended up together by the end. The ending was rushed and the whole book just felt a bit lacklustre.
DNF at about 45% I could not get on with this I found Posy utterly awful and Lucas not much better tbh.
A little unrealistic that such a situation would be necessary, but so fun to read that I didn't mind at all!
Enemies to lovers trope. It took me awhile to warm to the female lead but I found the story original and entertaining.
The Reunion by Elizabeth Drummond is funny, fun, easily relatable and super cute. No doubt you are going to love it too!
I usually LOVE fake dating and enemies to lovers stories. But this one really didn't do anything for me. I would have loved to see maybe more from the past? Them growing up? Posy wasn't relatable to me and I find myself skimming to get it over with.
Thank you for the ARC!!!
When I read the synopsis for this I couldn’t hit the request button fast enough. Enemies to lovers is one of my favourite romance tropes. However, as much as I wanted to really love this book, it just didn’t hit the spot for me. The story was slow in places and the characters just didn’t come across as likeable to me. Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the advance copy!
thank you to the publishers and netgalley for giving me this arc for an honest review.
when i first was accepted and saw the ratings from other readers, i became nervous, but glad that i pushed through to create my own opinion.
the start of the book is slow, but i thought that the past relationship to present relationship and the whole premise of taking money from the school to fund both of the main characters wants and needs was a great idea for the book. posy is this privileged, daddy's girl who hasn't had to work for anything in her life and then is suddenly cut off, and while i think the author could have done /a little more/ with her character development, she still definitely had some. the development in how she looked at lucas, how she told her family off for how they spoke about him and how she even cut off toxic friends for him was amazing in my opinion. if you compare posy at the end of the book to posy in the first 30/40%, they are different characters.
however i was disappointed in the lack of development with her step mother, ines. i wish there was more to that relationship and i wish there had been a bit more .. awareness from posy's end into how she was treating ines (at some points it was borderline verbal abuse). however was still happy that she started accepting and being kind to ines towards the end. i think it was realistic for the author to include this different type of relationship, especially when it comes to having to accept a parents new partner.
lucas was a great character as well, and a total contrast to posy which is why i think i liked their interactions and overall relationship so much. lucas likes everything to be organised and controlled and he seems to not like change all that often, and it was so lovely to read how he described posy exactly as being a hurricane as her family did, because their relationship really did hit that man like a hurricane.
also the plot with his business failing and him debating selling it all off, even his mother encouraging him to do so despite how lucas himself would really feel .. i liked it. and i liked that posy was willing to still help him, support him, even let him go if that's what it took for him to get control over his life and business again.
overall i think this book was a good one. i enjoyed reading it, i enjoyed the characters and the plot and their relationship. as i stated above the only disappointment i had was the lack of awareness and resolving around posy and ines.

Thank you to NetGalley & The publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was he best kind of childhood nemesis to lovers. I loved everything about Lucas and Posy once the book got started. It started slow and took me awhile to get into it but oh my i fell so hard for this. I didn't expect fake dating at first to go in this direction and i was unsure of it but oh my I love the reconnecting and how them being enemies was to me just banter on disagreements. I think it had followed Lucas and Posy on a way to learn to find a middle ground and learn and grow as individuals as they had started off still in the same mind set they had as teenagers. I thought the marriage part of the contract for the school was something cool and something i had never seen done before which made this so much more attracting to not put it down for a second and want to see how they work through this fake dating situation. Overall this was not the same typical romance i found myself loving how unique it felt and i absolutely loved how it ended! i will for sure be recommending this in the near future to friends!
This book was sent to me by Netgalley electronically for review…this is a fun book…a quick read…the characters are likable and just enjoyable…the story flows without becoming slow…this author is talented and gifted in weaving a story that could be true life…the characters come alive on. The names are somewhat off putting…Posey…but that uniqueness adds to the story…reunion…ten years…meeting again…enemies becoming friends and more… family dynamics…friendship…hopes and dreams…problems…careers…themes running 5epught this novel…curl up with this book and enjoy an afternoon of delight…
Thanks to NetGalley & HarperCollins UK for the e-arc.
Great premise but falls short of expectations. Too bad the main character of Posy was so unlikeable. Seems like she's living in the 1950s when everyone around her expects her to be married, non-working, multiple kids before 30. And she was so entitled, as all the wealthy ones are in this book, and immature, expecting Daddy to take care of everything & still provide for her. She gets a monthly allowance, for goodness sake! Just couldn't relate. Really liked Lucas but didn't see any chemistry between him & Posy.
this was so fun and cute and as someone who is going to their reunion soon i literally wiSH this would happen to me
‘The Reunion’ was a fun and easy romance read. Lucas and Posy have been both likeable characters, though I must admit, I have liked and related to Lucas way more. Posy, at moments, has felt like a lost, cuddled and spoilt almost child, but I think that the story showed her growing up a lot and eventually standing for what she believes in, which was good to see and worked within the story.
‘The Reunion’ is a classic enemies-to-lovers romcom, with high school rivals turned reluctant friends turned lovers spin. But it’s an enjoyable one, with a good family and friends dynamics.
Overall, while it hasn’t been my favourite romance read in recent times, I have enjoyed ‘The Reunion’, and I will keep an eye for any other books by the author.
I really thought I was going to love this book but it felt pretty average to me! I'm a romance LOVER and this just felt a little too predictable and bleh to me
Wow! I must say that I was hooked on this book and struggled to put it down! In fact, I kept reading the last 2 hours as I just couldn’t stop!
I loved both main characters and feel like you are just rooting for them from the beginning. I think the under tones of the meaning of the book are really important about being true to yourself and staying a true version of you.
This title is absolutely hilarious. I could see the way it was going to play out from the beginning, but what a fund and wonderful ride! It kept me reading (and laughing) well past my bedtime! I can't wait to add it to our collection.

Now if you enjoy a cute easy read to pass the time maybe this book is for you!
Featuring the popular trope 'enemies to lovers' and reasonable character development.
I did go into this book with an open mind despite the reviews but I just didn't vibe with this book.
The plotline regarding old-school bylaws was just too much of a leap for me to believe in, the characters were quite vapid and bland, and the plotline/ending was predictable. Everything was expected, I got bored easily and started skipping paragraphs that felt like they were just filled to finish the word count minimum. Following that, some of the language used was very Wattpad-esque, with overuse of adjectives that weren't necessarily needed.
I didn't like was that the entire purpose of the characters, the reason for them getting together was brushed off and was only quickly explained in the Epilogue, felt kind of throwaway. My ending issues exampled in the [ Did Posy even go to Hawaii?? I'm assuming not, but that was a huge plot point to not be fully explained - only with an "I refunded the tickets" at the wedding and finding out what she then did but needed to be clearer. PLUS Dee being traitorous for no retaliation to happen? What was the point of that plot point then? The poor headmistress going to the wedding and stopping it for nothing?? Why?! (hide spoiler)]. Even their love story progression was weird for a slow burn, as soon as they connected that was it, very lukewarm then suddenly ALL IN.
Posy had the best development but still didn't make up for her earlier vapidness/backstory, Lucas is bland chicken without spice and was nothing special as a love interest, I didn't want to root for them as a couple.
