I did enjoy the plot for this, it is both light-hearted and serious and I liked all the different elements. However, I really did not like the writing style, it felt too simplistic and although good points were made it did not fit the flow of the book and felt like a sentence thrown in for the sake of it.
I did like that this is told through the eyes of Ruby and Nic, it meant I got a good understanding of both of them and I enjoyed reading their different perspectives on the same events.
I found this an entertaining read but hard going.
One Night With You
by Laura Jane Williams
Pub date: August 9, 2022
This book was just ok for me. There was a lot going on between the characters and their personal development. It was hard to connect with them. Especially Ruby who kept her “Year of Me” in the forefront of her mind, very obviously. Nic was good, very good, almost too good. Also, the scamming people was a big turn off for me and something that I could have done without.
The second half was better than the first half for me. I think there could have been so much more to this if so much of it was left out. I’m not mad that I read it, I just kind of had higher expectations for it I guess.
2 stars from me
This book did keep me gripped and I enjoyed most of the story. I just wanted to get to the Nic parts as I knew that was mostly going to be about him and Ruby.
I felt Ruby’s decision at the end was a little rushed and couldn’t really be as simple as ‘I can be around babies now’ but I am not a Mother, nor do I want to be so maybe I can’t relate.
I would love a sequel to see what happens with Ruby and Nic. I would also like a Jackson book. This author writes from male and female perspective which I really like.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for this arc
Loved The Wrong Suitcase by Laura Jane Williams, so was excited to be accepted for this book on NetGalley.
This book gave me high hopes initially. I personally found the instant attraction believable, and liked that the story started where things were getting interesting. However, the pacing for me went a little downhill from there. Things in the middle just felt a little slow. Also felt a bit disappointed with the last 20%.
Loved the friendships in this group, even if Ruby and her friends liked to scam people, which is a bit of a downer. Jackson was a super supportive friend and I think everyone needs a Jackson in their life. Candice was glossed over a little. Henry was passionate and also supportive. JP as a character was great, loved his zest for life and the advice he gave.
Ruby felt quite self-centered and that made her a little unlikeable. Nic was kinda too perfect, which made him less believable. Their dialogue always seemed a little off too.
Now for the ending, I won't spoil it, but the ending felt very disappointing. Things just felt neatly tied with a bow and it fell a bit flat for me.
Would like to say thank you to NetGalley and to Avon books for an eARC of this book I'm exchange for honest feedback.
“this is a cute book” ! i was excited to read it ! i love that “meeting over a one night stand “ kind of thing but sadly it didn’t do well for me.. i had to DNF this book around midst it..
There was something about the writting style that just didn’t fit me but up untill where I decided to DNF it i found it has potential to be cute it was just a very sloooow burn at times and sometimes it got a lil boring for my taste..
maybe it gets better towards the end and i’m sure it’s worth a read :) ♡
Told in three parts from both Nic and Ruby's perspective, they meet, hook up for one night only, have no inhibitions as they don't intend for it to be repeated. After a night they won't forget, they seem smitten and saddened it hadn't happened at a different time. Ruby leaves as planned for A Year of Me, reminiscing on this one night, until....
Great lighthearted read, following the new paths for both Nic and Ruby.
ONE NIGHT WITH YOU - LAURA JANE WILLIAMS
3 .75⭐
PLOT -
It's his first night in London and her last.
Ruby is leaving London to an exciting opportunity in a new city and also from her ex.
Nic is moving to London after a bad break up to see what the big city life has to offer
So will they see each other again??
MY THOUGHTS -
The blurb got me excited ..it was a good meet cute. It started off well and finished well but in between it felt boring and the British lingo did take me sometime to get used too.
But otherwise was an easy enjoyable read esp the secondary characters who helped the MCs.
Fans of insta love, second chance romance check this one out.
Thank you Netgalley and publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
First of all, let me start by saying that I DNFed this book 50% in, so my review and knowledge of the story is obviously limited
I really enjoyed the premise of having the 2 main characters meet and spend an unforgettable night together. When I kept reading and realized the story would not focus only on their first night I was excited to see how their lives would keep evolving. But ultimately the execution did not work for me, as the plot seemed unfocused with a lot of things happening but at the same time nothing really happening. The characters felt a little flat to me and I could not really connect to Nic or to the secondary plot lines.
I still think that this book will do well with romance readers who like soft stories with a feel-good vibe and not too much promiscuity. It was just not for me, as the kind of romance books I usually enjoy tend to be a little bit different.
One Night With You focuses on Nic and Ruby, who have a whirlwind evening together right before she moves away. Both characters are really likeable and relatable, and their relationship is very modern and endearing.
It's a fast-paced read that, as soon as any character has something going for them, quickly throws an obstacle in their way. There are a lot of peripheral characters, one of which is forgotten about for a while because of an 'argument' that seemed unnecessary, but otherwise, they were all well incorporated into the story.
Overall I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading other work by the author.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so cute! I don't normally go for a romance where the main characters meet and cross paths for a night. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story! Laura Williams did a great job with the story and I loved reading about Ruby and Nic go through there own problems and grow together. Great book.
I didn't click with it. It was just another story with the same old characters and the plot didn't really catch me. I think if you're into spicy romance that just needs to enjoy you, then you will really love this! If you're looking for something deep and meaningful behind a romance, it may disappoint
This was an enjoyable, easy read, but I thought the research could have been a bit better regarding the commentary on Manchester as I currently live there myself. I found some of the things mentioned weren't relatable to Manchester.
What I can say is I enjoyed the novel having Northern Characters and the Northern references, rather than the focus being around London, which tends to be the case with a lot of novels.
I felt like the involvement with finding J.P.s girl was almost a filler to bulk up the novel and I would have enjoyed a bit more focus on the main characters and their relationship.
I'd recommend this for a beach read!
Huge thanks to Netgalley for giving my this ARC.
This was just so cute and quick to read. It was my first time reading something from this author and I loved it automatically.
Thank you NetGalley, Avon Books, and Laura Jane Williams for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review! This book follows Ruby as she starts her life over in a new city. Right before this, however, she meets Nic.
I sadly struggled with this book. The British slang was a little weird to get used to and I wasn’t a huge fan of the writing style. This made it harder to connect with the characters. However, parts of it were fun, and it has a lot of potential.
If you like insta-love and second chance romance, I recommend trying this one! It wasn’t my favorite for various reasons, but I believe there are people who will definitely enjoy it.
I did enjoy this story but it also had its down parts. I liked both MC and wanted them to be together. I also liked that Ruby was sticking with her goals and not giving them up Just bc she met someone. I really liked JP, Harry and Jackson, not so much Ollie and Candice. It also didn’t ring true for me that Nic gave up on Jackson.
The book started well and finished strong but I found it slower in the middle. Overall a great story though
Another great book by Laura Jane Williams; this one is a slower start than her other books I've read, but once you're into it, you're hooked! The story of the relationship between Nic and Ruby is gripping, there are so many twists and turns in the book but not a single one feels convoluted or strained..they happen naturally within the rhythm of the story. I'm a fan of the way she writes; the right amount of description, believable characters and with real-life references.
It has a really satisfying ending too - not predictable, satisfying!
Another fantastic book from Laura Jane Williams and one that I will read multiple times. Each chapter is in the eyes of Ruby and Nic who met when Ruby was leaving London and Nic just moved to London and purchased a sofa from Ruby.
All characters in this book tie in wonderfully and it’s a book I’ll be thinking about for a while. Great story and I didn’t want it to end.
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
This story follows Ruby, a 30-something woman who has decided to spend a year focusing on finding herself. She's moving to a new city, starting graduate school, and has sworn off men. The last night before she starts her new journey, she meets Nic.
Overall, I feel the book has a promising start and a decent ending but a slow and disjointed middle.
A lot of complaining is going to happen below the spoiler mark. That does not mean I hated the book. It had a lot of potential and I enjoyed my time reading it. But there are a number of things I took issue with.
**Major Spoilers Ahead**
What's with no one supporting our MC's? Ruby gets told several times her Year of Me is a bad idea and gets urged to go out with Nic. I'm not mad that she changed her plans, but I wish those around her had at least supported her.
And when Nic was deciding what to do after hearing about the baby? Everyone was trying to convince him he didn't have to be apart of the baby's life. His own dad walked away from him and people are really trying to convince him to do the same??
Also, did we need to add the pregnancy trope twice? Why were important life decisions for both of our MC's revolved around a pregnancy?
The documentary was disappointing. JP pined for this woman for 70 years. Sure, we didn't get the ending we wanted for him, but we still should have got something. Some emotion at the very least.
Three different characters use "lol" in conversation (not over text). There are so many pop culture references that are already dated. And if you're unfamiliar with British slang, you're probably going to be very confused.

Ruby’s leaving London – she’s not running away from her ex per se, but an exciting opportunity in a new city has landed at the perfect time.
Nic is moving to London. After a bad break-up, he’s excited to see where big-city life could take him.
When a chance meeting throws the pair of them together for just one night, it’s clear that this could be the start of something special. But there’s one problem: she’s leaving, and he’s just arriving. So, after tonight, they’ll never see each other again . . . will they….,, Beautifully written, with such heart. Not only did it make me cry, it made me see the world in a different way.

SYNOPSIS: Nic is moving to London (because of the bad break-up), so he wants to buy a lounge and Ruby is moving out from London (for a college degree), so she is selling a lounge. Because of this, they meet each other and develop feelings, but they don't have enough time. What would they do?
This book is a romance with a huge twist.
It did have a slow start for me (maybe it's the writing I don't know).
If you like insta love (which I'm not a big fan of) and second-hand romance, then this book is for you!
Overall it was solid 3 stars for me!
