Thrilled and privileged to be reading this gorgeous book.
Ruby & Nic and heir chemistry had me turning the pages well into the night. I love stories that involve unexpected meet cures especially in London so this was definitely a must read for me! I loved their chance meeting and how the story played out to see how/if they were going to land up together in the end! I love these types of beautiful feel good books! The descriptions, characters, and storyline were stunning. Thank you very much for the opportunity to red this book in advance.. strongly will be recommended to others and considering this as my top pick for my next book club pick.

Laura Jane Williams has done it once again!! You just have such an amazing and fun time reading her books and this was just like that! She's one of my favorite authors.
This is an amazingly fun contemporary romance, the story was delightful, charming, romantic, and hilarious, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever read a book by this author.
Ruby was ADORABLE and Nic was just an all around an amazing guy! Seriously loves these two.
I read this book yesterday in two sittings and I don't regret none of it! So fun!
Highly recommended as a quick, light escape, with Williams delightful signature humor and a lovely, tasty, relaxing trip to London.
Avon,
Thank you for this sweet eARCl

A funny meet cute story. :) Love Nic and Ruby. She is so cute and funny and he's dreamy and sweet. They are wonderful together. The story is so romantic. Love the descriptions of the city too. :) Totally charming!

ONE NIGHT WITH YOU is my very first Laura Jane Williams book, despite having a few of her previous works on my never ending TBR list, but it certainly won’t be my last. I absolutely loved the writing and the pace of ONWY, and the concept was so unlike anything I’ve read previously.
Ruby and Nic are immediately drawn to each other when he comes to her apartment to purchase her couch. The only problem with this is that they meet on their last and first, respectively, days in London. She’s moving closer to where she grew up to get her Masters in filmmaking and he’s just moved to the city after the breakup of his long-term relationship. After spending the night together, Ruby and Nic agree to go their opposite ways—Ruby’s following her dreams and focusing on herself for the year and Nic is intent on recapturing the carefree twenties he missed while in a relationship—even though there’s a strong connection between the two of them.
Though their plan to have only one night together gets dashed pretty quickly as Nic becomes friends with Ruby’s former roommate and best friend, their timing never seems to align in a way that would allow them to have the relationship they both feel destined for.
I loved how the characters all felt so real, their struggles so relevant and the situations they found themselves in bittersweet. And though I would say ONE NIGHT WITH YOU skews more toward Women’s (don’t even get me started on having to make this differentiation) Fiction rather than Romance, I was invested in the story the entire time, rooting for Ruby and Nic’s relationship and hoping their lives would finally settle in a spot where they could be together once and for all, for longer than just one night.
TWs: Miscarriage, toxic relationship, serious accident with talk of injuries
Dashing of romance and feel good that carry you through this lovely connection between Ruby and Nic. Felt really happy reading this and enjoyed. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
this is a fun, quick, easy and cute read that I finished in one sitting. It was well written with good characters that I was rooting for and a good storyline. I was gripped and engaged all the way through. I cannot wait to read more by this author.
I feel extremely privileged to have read an advanced copy of this stunning book by the incredible Laura Jane Williams. She must just have the hugest heart and cleverest mind to create such beautiful stories. Her books just get better and better - One Night with You is my favourite so far! It couldn't have been more perfect. I just love what LJW has to say, and how she says it, about the world, and about humanity. An extremely relevant and life affirming read. Loved every second, even the heartbreaking bits! Highly, highly recommended reading for anyone and everyone. Thank you Avon and Laura for the chance to read this wonderful book.
Thank you to Netgalley & Avon Books UK for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!!
This book was an excellent and realistic portrayal of the right person, wrong time. Ruby and Nic meet on Ruby's last night in London and Nic's first. Thinking they'd never see one another again, they go their separate ways after spending one night together. But, with connections with a mutual friend, they are bound to reunite at some point in the future.
One Night With You is beautifully written and focuses on the characters as individuals as well as their dynamics together. I loved Ruby's individual storyline and the characters that came with it.
I highly recommend this book, and the ending was just so perfect, extremely suitable for the situation the characters found themselves in!
I absolutely adored this book. It was so swoony and reading it felt like a big hug.
Nic arrives in London the day before Ruby is set to leave. They allow themselves one night to be together, knowing they'll never see each other again.
Laura Jane Williams' writing is beautiful and funny. I loved all of the characters in the book - sometimes having a full cast of characters in a romance book can distract from the main couple, but everyone in this book was such a joy and truly added to the story. I loved the personal growth that Ruby and Nic both had, and how that affected them together.
I truly cannot recommend this book enough! Make sure to read it when it's released this summer!!
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books UK, and Laura Jane Williams for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this.
This is a quick and easy read, where the author is very good at making you forget you're actually reading while being immersed in the story. The characters are quite likeable and their living and employment situations make them interesting and different.
I really enjoyed the journey of JP and how they found his long lost love.
I'm always a big fan of 'live in the moment' romances, so when Nic and Ruby make their decision it kind of frustrated me. In the end, I suspect most people are happy with the outcome.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars for this amazing story!
Romances with prominent side-plots have me hooked. Why? Because romances don't have to always be the cheesy and corny stories we imagine. Yes, I do enjoy those as well but, books that aren't entirely all about the romance appeal to me as well. And this one had all the ingredients to do so! I just loved Nic and Ruby from the start. Their thoughts, their humor, they made me laugh and also fall in love with them.
I especially enjoyed JP's journey and that part of the plot had me holding my breath. I even needed to collect myself at one point.
Overall, this book has a heart-warming message about love and putting ourselves out there, grasping at the maybes and letting go of the what ifs.
A Five-star read you would give more than a night to. Ruby and Nic will have your heart wrenching at how bad their timing is, when you hear their stories and get to really know them you feel so much for them both, feel them realising what they want and need. Its such a great unravelling, of the strings of life that keep us all together. The thing is its not just Ruby and Nic in this story, it’s the other characters that we can all recognise as people in our lives, those relationships that come and go, it has people who are real and relationships that show us more about their lives. Reading about all of the relationships gives you a warm and deep sense of peace, they each give us a different storyline and add something extra special to this amazing read. Ruby and Nic maybe the main characters of this story, but my personal favourite was JP he was a strong male role model that we could all do in our lives. His story made me smile and chuckle and cry a little as well. Adding his story, just made this whole thing so much stronger, it’s one of the things I love about this author, they bring someone that starts so small and becomes so much.
What a heartfelt story about finding THE ONE in the right place at the wrong time!
The night before Ruby leaves London, she meets Nic who is having his first day in London! They have only one night to share and then they are going to part their ways! Flirty Ruby and shy, nerdy Nic’s attraction is palpable! But they’re so adamant to move on their lives and remember this special night as their unforgettable one night stand! You may guess what will happen next! Of course what happens in one night stay in one night! Faith has other plans for them!
Thoughts:
I was planning three stars because after the strong and entertaining romcom opening, the book lost its charm and I got agitated with Ruby a little bit. She earned ten slap points from me to be so stubborn and feel so sorry for Nick! But I also enjoyed JP’s story line and his journey to find his love of his life! So I added extra half stars! That parts were brilliant!
The characters’ inner journeys, their self discoveries were well written.
So I’m rounding up 3.5 stars to 4 it happened one night stars!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
It’s Ruby’s last night in London before she heads off to university. Nic is escaping to London after a bad break-up. Fate brings the two together for only one night.
One Night With You is a charming take on a second-chance romance. The book mainly centers around Ruby and Nic’s love story but there are several other relationships in the plot: romantic and friendships. The author throws in a few great twists too. She shows that love isn’t always sunshine and conflict isn’t always quickly resolved. I really enjoyed the maturity of this plot. The book is broken up into 3 parts and I do wish the 3rd part was a little longer.
This is the first book that I have read from Laura Jane Williams but I plan to add more of her novels to my TBR.
“I’m going to have to be anyone but myself”
“I deserve to leave London on a high note. And that high note could be Nic”
“I can’t believe my first night here is your last night here”
A story about love, chances, life and fate … and time, most of all about time !!!
We all have our own timeline and sometimes it doesn’t align with someone else’s.
But when you find the one … things get tricky. Especially when that one is coming in right when you’re getting out!!!
I really liked this story and I deeply appreciated how the author faced so many different themes about life, while also trying to design the love relationship between two great characters.
Fate and time can be a cruel thing when they’re messing up with our lives.
But sometimes the taking the chance is worth the risk !!!!
The writing style made the book easy to read and the attraction and the dialogues between Nic and Ruby were great !!!
I loved the fact that second chances were given when the time was right, and denied when it felt like it.
It was a fluffy romance. Not dark, not too spicy but definitely good, pictured in the beautiful background of English cities!
And the greatest thing of all was the amount of respect these two shared throughout all their journey !!!
Check this book out if you haven’t already!!!! And read this when it’ll be out !!!
“Timing is everything”
“I don’t think about Ruby much. I mean - obviously- I don’t obsess”
“It’s safe to be happy”
Thank you very much for access to Laura Jane William's new book, One Night With You. I absolutely adored it and great to be back with her rom-com books! Something I love about her books is how the love interests happen, and this was fantastic with this title again.. a love interest kicked off from buying a sofa on Facebook marketplace.
This title feels modern and contemporary, and love that it's set in a setting that is familiar. I like the references and observations and sure LJW fans will adore this when it's published in May,
Oh my goodness, where to start? This book had me feeling all the emotions. It is a poignant tale about finding love with the right person at the wrong time. Nic and Ruby have both just had traumatic revelations in their lives. They have both embarked on the journey to finding the best version of themselves. This means that Ruby is heading out of London to go to film school in Manchester and Nic is just arriving in London to get away from his past in Liverpool. Nic winds up at Ruby’s house to buy a used sofa she has for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Their attraction is instant, but neither will act on it. Ruby’s best friends, Candice and Jackson, orchestrate the evening to get the two to hook up. They want Ruby to purge her ex, Abe, out of her system before she leaves. A wonderful one-night stand ensues and Nic and Ruby part ways, knowing a relationship cannot be. She is leaving, and he just got there. They know and accept that it can only be one night. And what a night it is!
Both Nic and Ruby throw themselves headlong into their new lives. Ruby’s strong female character is making huge strides with her “Year of Me”. They are both making friends and becoming who they want to be. The one thing they didn’t count on was not being able to forget the other. With a little help from JP, the old man that Ruby and her friend Harry are filming a documentary about, Ruby realizes shielding her heart is not the best way to live. Through a sweet, raw, and vulnerable tale, Ruby and Nic find their way back to each other. Can their love conquer all and will they find their happily ever after?
I love how this story progressed. Each well-developed character added depth to the book and enhanced the plot. There were heavy topics between the pages. Toxic relationships, aging, death, serious accidents, miscarriage, STDs, and negative family dynamics added a realistic aspect to the story. I felt that sometimes the story lost focus. There was almost too much going on. In the end, the author wrapped the story up nicely and neatly. Overall, it was a very enjoyable read. Romance played a large part in this story but, I would categorize this as women’s fiction instead of romance. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a self-discovery plot with a rekindled love story added in. This book was a 4 out of 5 stars for me.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange for my honest review. Expected publication on May 26, 2022.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for the fair and honest review.
Loved this book. Loved the premise - The year of me!
A fun story about finding yourself, starting over, the value of friendship and learning that "almost" does count.
Great read for the beach or just to pick up for an escape.
This book was nothing like I expected. Firstly the publisher is British. This was charming but at times a bit of a ‘head-screw’.
After the first few chapters I was into it, drinking the tea you could say.
This book was some what agonizing. I caught myself wanting to read to the next scene with Nic; shy, nerdy finance guy (party 2 of the one night) + Ruby; motivated, spirited, dream chaser.
What kept pulling me back in was the dialog. The character interaction and inner monologue had actual substance.
Couple that with some quality time with a nonagenarian and I am in it for the long haul.
Cheers to a fresh idea in a complex space.
Thank you so much NetGalley for the arc.
This book was an emotional rollercoaster as much as fun. One moment I was crying and then again I was smiling and being silly.
I haven't read any book of this author but definitely willing to try her other works as I love how much effort she put into the characters , their development .
One Night With You was so much more than a romance novel (though this is definitely more women's fiction). If you are looking for beautifully written, heartfelt, and incredibly charming and romantic; then this is the book for you.
My pet peeve with most books like this is lack of character development/interesting character growth; I didn't have this problem with One Night With You. Laura Jane Williams does this PERFECTLY. I loved the plot, I loved the characters, and the description of the book translated perfectly onto the page; as a reader, what more could you ask for?
I really enjoyed this book. It was a light, happy read. Ruby and Nic meet one night right before she’s leaving for London. They spend one night together, and are left with many what-if scenarios after they part ways. The characters were very likable and enjoyable. I found myself laughing and smiling a lot through this story. Some very heavy plot twists as well which always keeps my interest. A solid book overall, I would definitely recommend!
I really enjoyed this book. It was beautifully written, and had a very unique and interesting storyline. I loved learning about everyone's story: Ruby, Nic, and JP.
The plot was very interesting. Nic meets Ruby the day before she is going to move. They have one night together. Essentially, every time Nic and Ruby's paths crossed, they really only have one night together (except for once, but that's a different story that I'm not going to reveal). Along the way, there are so many different things that prevent them from being together; however, this story is more about how someone can change your life. How you can wake up happy, even though you aren't with the person who you love because you are choosing to do what's best for you. It's about standing up for what you believe in and believing in yourself to make the right decision for you.
I loved all the characters! It was so much fun to see how they grew and developed as the story progressed; how one person can affect the lives other people. I loved JP! He was funny and charming. I loved how he just called it like it was. Saying he was old (he was like 97) and that he wasn't getting any younger and probably going to die soon. He was always happy, even when he was sad, and making the most out of his situation.
One of the most refreshing things about reading this book was that there were so many unpredictable things that happened. I felt like I knew where the book was going, but then something would happen that I wasn't expecting at all. And this happened multiple times throughout the story. It was just so nice to be able to get to a part and be completely shocked about what happened.
The only thing I really didn't like, but it wasn't that big of a deal, was the text messages between Ruby and Nic. They always wrote in poem form, which I found kind of odd to do in a text. I mean it would seem like it would take some serious time to make a poem every time they texted each other. I also thought that after Ruby and Nic's first night together, Ruby didn't seem to think of Nic that much. Maybe it was just my point of view, but it seemed like Nic was more interested and Ruby didn't give Nic a second thought (at least at first).
You know how in certain books, the author goes into detail about every little thing and describes every detail of a conversation and how things look around the characters? Yeah, I don't usually like reading that. I was so glad that this book was not like that AT ALL. I mean The author would skim over certain aspects to get to the point of the story, which I really enjoyed and appreciated. Even if sometimes you felt like something the character thought about or said wasn't really important, it actually became more important later on in the story. It was just nice that every word seemed to have a purpose and didn't just describe in detail how something looked that wasn't even important.
The main and only reason why I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I just kept finding excuses on why I wasn't going to read it. I would go on social media, or look through pictures, or something else. I just felt like I was actively seeking something else to do rather than reading this book. That's not to say that I didn't love the story, because I did. I think it had more to do with the fact that the last book I read wasn't good, so I wasn't really in the mood to move on to another book quite yet. However, I also feel like if I truly 100% loved this book, I would have been so immersed in the story that I would have been solely focusing on reading it.
This is my first Laura book and definitely not my last! This is a story about life, fate, chances and love! Right person wrong time vibes! I loved it a lot and highly recommend.
Ruby and Nic have a chance encounter just as he is arriving in London and she is leaving. The result is lots of angst and what-ifs.
This book had a lot going on, with several dramatic subplots and big events. It was a little busy for me, but I really liked both Ruby and Nic, and loved seeing their relationship develop. In true 2020's fashion, much of their interaction was via text, which they inexplicably shared in rhyming verse. A little sweet, a little steamy, a little sad, and several twists. Solid book overall.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the opportunity to read and review this arc.
This book was sent to me for review by Netgalley. It is a light romance...curl up under a warm blanket, have a favorite tea, and enjoy an afternoon reading this book. The author has woven a story of romance and warmth. A quick fun read. Enjoy.
It's a well known fact that Laura is the Queen of the meet cute, and creating the relatable and hilarious characters, and this novel is possibly her best yet. The plot is expertly crafted, and a complete page turner. I especially loved the intense emotional connection between the two main characters, it was as tangible as if I was there observing them in person. If fast paced storylines and romance is your thing, you'll love this. I cannot recommend this enough. Five Stars
I have loved reading Laura Jane Williams's books since the first one and gobbled up her latest offering One Night With You, with as much anticipation and excitement as the rest.
Ruby and Nic are so similar but different.
Both are starting new chapters in their lives, and moving away, after events that changed the course of their lives.
There's just one night, where they both collide, by pure coincidence, and the sparks that fly are undeniable to both themselves and Ruby's housemates.
But the sparks are just not enough to keep one from changing their new plans.
Thing is, when you meet someone like that, they are pretty hard to forget.
Nic immerses his new life in London, making friends, and tentatively begins dating.
Ruby puts her whole self into her Masters up North, revelling in her Year of Me.
but neither of them can forget the other,
Add in the fantastic character, JP, the nonagenarian, with a love story that captures Ruby's interest, and encourages her to think more deeply into what she really wants, and you have a pretty good read!
There are friendship politics here, as well as grief, passionate encounters and tearful partings. All in all, a whole lot of almosts.
Will almost ever be enough?
I enjoyed reading this because it wasn't just some sort of simple romance, but a tale with a whole load of side stories to add spice to it,
Many thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A romance with a huge twist- as much as they are pulled to each other, Nic and Ruby’s timing is just too wrong. This was an intricate story with lovely off shoots of interest about other characters in the story- I was just as invested in Candaice, Jackson, JP, William and Harry as I was in the main protagonists.
The chemistry between Ruby and Nic was amazing and I also enjoyed reading and learning about the process of making a film- something I knew nothing about before!
Another great book by Laura Jane Williams; this one is a slower start than her other books I've read, but once you're into it, you're hooked! The story of the relationship between Nic and Ruby is gripping, there are so many twists and turns in the book but not a single one feels convoluted or strained..they happen naturally within the rhythm of the story. I'm a fan of the way she writes; the right amount of description, believable characters and with real-life references.
It has a really satisfying ending too - not predictable, satisfying!
I did enjoy this story but it also had its down parts. I liked both MC and wanted them to be together. I also liked that Ruby was sticking with her goals and not giving them up Just bc she met someone. I really liked JP, Harry and Jackson, not so much Ollie and Candice. It also didn’t ring true for me that Nic gave up on Jackson.
The book started well and finished strong but I found it slower in the middle. Overall a great story though
Another fantastic book from Laura Jane Williams and one that I will read multiple times. Each chapter is in the eyes of Ruby and Nic who met when Ruby was leaving London and Nic just moved to London and purchased a sofa from Ruby.
All characters in this book tie in wonderfully and it’s a book I’ll be thinking about for a while. Great story and I didn’t want it to end.
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Ruby’s leaving London – she’s not running away from her ex per se, but an exciting opportunity in a new city has landed at the perfect time.
Nic is moving to London. After a bad break-up, he’s excited to see where big-city life could take him.
When a chance meeting throws the pair of them together for just one night, it’s clear that this could be the start of something special. But there’s one problem: she’s leaving, and he’s just arriving. So, after tonight, they’ll never see each other again . . . will they….,, Beautifully written, with such heart. Not only did it make me cry, it made me see the world in a different way.
This is a book which has captured my interest from the beginning. I love how this is written. It is filled with a mix of characters and has been a book I have been unable to predict. THIS IS JUST ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS FROM BEGINNING TO END.
Laura Jane Williams, author of bestsellers such as "The Lucky Escape", has released her newest book, "One Night With You." In this book, Ruby is enjoying her last night in London before leaving to complete her college degree. Nic is spending his first night in London after moving to the big city following a bad break-up. The two cross paths and sparks start to fly. They agree to just one night together, but life has other plans. This story details what happens when you meet the man of your dreams at the worst possible time.
Both main characters were highly likable and it made you want to root for them. I enjoyed the sweet chemistry between the two of them. I found this book enjoyable and fun to read. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
A fun, engaging story about two people, both ready for a change in their lives, who meet completely by chance. Ruby is just leaving town for a new job, and Nic is just arriving for a new venture. They connect, but can there be room in their new lives for what they've left behind? I look forward to recommending this sweet, funny romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the arc of this book.
I really enjoyed this story, everything about it.
It was so cute, with so many emotional rollercoasters.
This book is highly recommended!
Another brilliant book from Laura Jane Williams.
I really enjoyed the story being told from both Ruby and Nic's POV.
I think I always knew how it was going to end, but I thoroughly enjoyed the journey to get there. Lots of will they? Won't they? and the bits in between were more than just story fillers.
I love Laura Jane Williams and definitely recommend.

Review:
I’d first like to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for granting me access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I was so excited to see I’d been accepted for this book as Laura is an instant-buy author for me. I adored her previous books The Lucky Escape and The Love Square and One Night With You definitely didn’t disappoint!
The entire focus of the book is self-love and bettering yourself and it was something that I really needed at the moment! It was warm and comforting and even gave me a desire to move cities and start a new life just as Ruby did (but I somehow managed to stay put)!
One Night With You is a slow burn will it/won’t it romance with Nic being the kindest, realest, book boyfriend I’ve ever read. The plot is full of twists which keep you turning the page and, oh my goodness, is it one emotional rollercoaster. There are so many loveable characters that you really root for throughout the book- I was very nearly brought to tears a few times.
One Night With You is out on 26th May 2022 but it’s also available for preorder now.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the arc of this book in return for an honest review.
This was an enjoyable romance. It tells the story of Nic and Ruby whose first encounter is set the night before Ruby is leaving London and just as Nic is arriving in London. I really enjoyed particularly the first section of the book and the development of the meet cute and beginnings of the relationship between ruby and Nic and also the other characters. They has good chemistry and I immediately believed in their romance. The side story with JP and the documentary process was also interesting and thought provoking. Whilst this is a romance it also touched on deeper friendships and relationships with other characters. There were several plot twists that were well told and kept the story interesting.
Overall an enjoyable and easy read romance. I look forward to reading other books by Laura Jane Williams.
What an awesome book! I really enjoyed the story, the characters and how the book kept my attention so much that I couldn't put it down! What a great read! I highly recommend this book!! Thank you for letting me review this book
This book did keep me gripped and I enjoyed most of the story. I just wanted to get to the Nic parts as I knew that was mostly going to be about him and Ruby.
I felt Ruby’s decision at the end was a little rushed and couldn’t really be as simple as ‘I can be around babies now’ but I am not a Mother, nor do I want to be so maybe I can’t relate.
I would love a sequel to see what happens with Ruby and Nic. I would also like a Jackson book. This author writes from male and female perspective which I really like.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the author for this arc
Told in three parts from both Nic and Ruby's perspective, they meet, hook up for one night only, have no inhibitions as they don't intend for it to be repeated. After a night they won't forget, they seem smitten and saddened it hadn't happened at a different time. Ruby leaves as planned for A Year of Me, reminiscing on this one night, until....
Great lighthearted read, following the new paths for both Nic and Ruby.
This book was so cute! I don't normally go for a romance where the main characters meet and cross paths for a night. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story! Laura Williams did a great job with the story and I loved reading about Ruby and Nic go through there own problems and grow together. Great book.
The story
It’s Ruby’s last day in London before she moves to Manchester to do a Masters in Film Studies. Nic has just moved to London from Liverpool and is buying Ruby’s red couch on FB Marketplace. The attraction is there, and when Ruby’s flatmate Jackson helps take the coach home and then invites Nic back, the meeting becomes a memorable one night stand.
My thoughts
I have read three of Laura Jane William’s four previous books and feel like they are just getting better and better! “Timing is everything” seems to be the motto behind this story. But the message is also that love isn’t easy to find, sometimes life changes need to be made to find happiness and maybe “almost” is enough. I loved the stories within stories in this story, I loved how the characters supported each other beyond gender roles and how found family stuck together when they needed each other. Such a goodie! ❤️
I fell in love with this book! You could say it was pretty much love at first sight. I fell in love with the characters and the storyline, and found it hard to put down!
Ruby and Nick meet when they are both at different points in their lives. Ruby is leaving London and Nic has just arrived. After spending one night together they form an instant connection however, it is just not practical.
Will they ever see each other again?
This is the fourth book by Laura Jane Williams I have read everyone of them and will continue to read her stories.
Laura Jane Williams never disappoints! This is the fourth book I have read by Williams and I loved every page! I feel like this book is a bit more mature than her others (though I haven't read The Love Square yet), as it deals with some heavy topics though not in depth. I really enjoyed how different each character is. There is wuite a few characters and having each one be different it was easier to dive back into the story and not confuse the characters. The story follows Nic and Ruby which is a case of right-person-wrong-time as they both deal with different things, moving to other sides of the country, unexpected circumstances, merging friendship groups, friendship drama and generally just trying to navigate life. The book is dual POV between Ruby and Nic and it was clearly shown whos point of view I was reading. The only thing that bothered me was that some sentences would get cut in half and moved to the next line but I'm not sure if that's due to my kindle being old and the formatting getting messed up (though this is not the reason for it not being a 5 star read!). I really liked the ending, I liked the fact we got to meet the characters in the future, though the ending would have been great with or without the time jump. Overall I am giving this book 4.5 stars as I really enjoyed it and Williams is quickly becoming an auto-buy author for me, I just feel like this book needed another twist or something small but impactful to make it 5 stars, though it definitely didn't disappoint!
Our history informs our present, which informs our future. We are our histories - whether we choose to repeat it or rectify it.‘
I can’t remember having as much trouble writing a consistent, decent review about a book as I had with this one. I struggle to tie my thoughts together, because this story isn’t linear as well. It’s more like a collection of storylines, that are dependent on each other and build upon each other without being overloaded or trivial. But despite having several storylines the narrative doesn’t bother with unnecessary or extra lengthy descriptions, but focuses on the essentials.
We get to witness mature, grown-ass, responsible adults trying to reflect on their expectations of and in life and ultimately their growth and learning ability that results from their knowledge. It’s a display of intelligence, especially emotional intelligence with an almost philosophical insight into self-worth and self-fulfilment. Their amazing ability to voice their thoughts and beliefs made this an authentic, real-life story without being polished or generalised.
The dual perspective creates a level of intimacy between the characters that I sometimes felt bad for reading about them like a creepy intruder. In fact the narration of intimacy is so colourful, you don’t need a scene to be explicitly steamy in order to visualise it. It’s more like the author gives subtle impulses and encourages you to paint your own picture.
Even though One Night With You is a romance, the story tends to walk a fine line between character-driven and plot-driven, which makes it even more exciting. It’s a wild ride through your emotions, but it’s definitely worth it.
My first Laura Jane Williams read was The Wrong Suitcase which is a novella. And I ended up loving it so much that I was immediately curious to find out what she could do with a proper novel. And I was not disappointed! One Night With You was so beautifully written! It made me cry several times as it does deal with topics like miscarriage. The characters are so vulnerable, raw and real. It wasn't as lighthearted as The Wrong Suitcase, but it did leave me thirsty for more. So I will definitely check out more of her reading. This was a 4.5/5 star read for me.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the author for gifting me an eARC, in return for an honest review.
One Night With You by Laura Jane Williams
I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Ruby’s leaving London. She’s not running away from her ex per se, but an exciting opportunity in a new city has landed at the perfect time.
Nic is moving to London. After a bad break-up, he’s excited to see where big-city life could take him.
When a chance meeting throws the pair of them together for just one night, it’s clear that this could be the start of something special. But there’s one problem: she’s leaving, and he’s just arriving. So, after tonight, they’ll never see each other again . . . will they?
I have previously enjoyed a novella by Laura so I was interested in seeing if I would also enjoy a full length novel - this lived up to my expectations. The night before she leaves London, Ruby meets Nic on his first night in the city - you may guess what happens next. There are multiple plots running in parallel through this book with Nic and Ruby going their separate ways - will their paths ever meet again?
A good representation of right person, wrong time. A beautifully written book that focuses on the main characters as individuals. I enjoyed the ending and I am sure you will too.
Rating 4/5
I really enjoyed this book, the initially meeting of the two main characters was perfectly written & so relatable, I did enjoy the arc of the story although it did get a little slow at times but soon picked up the pace again
kis·met- destiny; fate. "what chance did I stand against kismet?"
Sarcasm and silly are my thing and this book was dripping with it.
The romance was intense, tender and honest. They were vulnerable and interesting. The back and forth that was going on with these two just kept me glued. Nick **sigh** Nick. He’s perfect in an imperfect way that just made him more adorable.
The novel gave me that dreamy, escapable pleasure thing I look for in a book.
Laura Jane Williams is officially on my favorite author list. A great summer read and I highly recommend it. Don’t let this one pass you buy.
Thanks Avon Books via NetGalley.
I’m leaving my review on Instagram, Amazon, GR, FB and kobo
It starts like a fun and cute romance..
Ruby leaves London, she needs to focus on what she truly wants..
Nic is moving to London after a bad breakup..
They get together for just one night.. and somehow what you thought will be a perfect romance turns into something different..
Priorities changes someone's life..
..What to do when you find a perfect person but on a wrong time?
Does this even happens?
This story will make you feel all kinds of emotions ..
And the question : will they meet again??
.
Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this lovely ARC in return of my honest review .. ❤
Thank you to NetGalley, Avon Books and Laura Jane Williams for an ARC in return for an honest review.
Ruby is leaving London, she needs to focus on her ambitions. Nic is moving to London after a nasty break up. Nic buys Rubys sofa and the chemistry is instant but it’s the wrong time for both of them.
Oh my goodness, I adore this book. ‘One Night With You’ is just outstanding from start to finish. It’s romantic, funny and sad in places. You end up so invested in all the characters and the plot is brilliant. I can’t hype this book enough. It will be a bestseller.
This is perfect for fans of Beth O’Leary.
This was a truly beautiful story. It is packed full of flirty romance, awesome characters and guaranteed to give you all the feels! Loved it.!
I loved this book! It was fun, and our main characters, Ruby and Nic, were fantastic. I loved their chemistry, it kept me hooked right from the start.
This book is a very fun and charming read, the pace of the book flowed perfectly and the writing style was easy to follow and read.
The friendships in this book were also such a huge part of the story, and all of the characters were written really well. I felt connected to them, and to their lives.
This is my first book by Laura Jane Williams, however I am now questioning why I haven't read any others before!
Huge thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for approving me to read a copy of this book.
Laura Jane Williams, you sneaky genius, you’ve done it again. You’ve somehow created another beautifully-written romance with just the right doses of snark, wit, emotion, and wholesomeness.
Let me tell you that when I began this book, I was chortling. Yes, chortling. That’s not a word I use often. In fact, I might even go so far as to say that I let out a guffaw! The early moments between our protagonists were absolutely hilarious. From the best friend/roommate hijinks to the uncomfortable flirting to the admission of social media profile stalking, it was a mess of hilarity and adorableness that I will never forget. Those opening chapters drew me in so fast and I absolutely had to know what happened next for Ruby and Nic.
I was a little wary moving forward. There was an almost insta-love vibe to those first few chapters that had me worrying that the rest of the book would fall flat. I mean, how could the rest of the story live up to the cuteness held in the early moments? But I had absolutely nothing to worry about because the rest of the story was just as phenomenal – if not more so. That’s where the depth happened and it was more than I could have hoped for or expected.
There was no way I could have anticipated that I would adore these characters so much. Every single one of them, from Ruby’s gang of misfit roommates (I especially loved Jackson) and the pals she made during her video project (don’t even get me started on how badly I want to just sit and have a whisky with JP) to Nic and his brother Ollie. There was not a single member of this cast that went unnoticed or unappreciated. Every one of them made this story more enjoyable and emotional. Without giving any spoilers, just know that the final few chapters actually made me cry. Like legit crocodile tears!
The more challenging themes that were faced in this book were handled so well. They made me truly think long and hard about my own life. I absolutely love when a book can make me do that – especially an unsuspecting “rom-com,” you know? The entire phrase “almost doesn’t count” was on repeat in my head throughout the time I was reading this… and beyond. I’m still thinking about it on occasion. I love the realizations that Ruby came to about this phrase and how JP impacted her life so much.
If I look back at this, I’m slightly surprised to note that the romance wasn’t actually what stood out to me the most. While the book is titled One Night With You, it focuses on far more than just Ruby and Nic’s whirlwind one-night stand. I hope that those who choose to read this go into it with an open mind, willing to learn from it because there is so much to gain. Of course, the romance is adorable too and not to be forgotten, but I just love that there was such fantastic depth along with the swoony, steamy bedroom scenes.
This is another LJW book that I will be eagerly adding to my shelves! I’m so thankful that I got the chance to read it a little early because I loved every second of it and I’m thrilled to share it with all of you and tell you that you need to read it too!
[CW: (major) Grief, Infidelity, Injury/injury detail, Miscarriage, Pregnancy, Death, and Sexual content, (moderate) Alcohol and Cursing]
One Night With You is my first Laura Jane Williams book, and I loved the pace!! Super cute and a unique storyline! Loved the characters!
One Night With You
I was given the opportunity to listen to this audiobook and I was happy to give it a go. I have tried to listen to audiobooks in the past and I haven’t enjoyed them, so I was apprehensive but keen to hear this story. Ruby is spending her last night in London before embarking on ‘The Year Of Me’. A bad break up has spurred her on to go back to uni - to pursue her dreams of becoming a filmmaker. It’s Nic’s first night in London. He’s left his life in Liverpool for an adventure. On this night they meet by chance - or destiny. They both know they only have one night together, so they’re going to make it count & then go their own ways. Except life has other ideas. This book was really funny, but I could tell early on I wasn’t going to enjoy it as much as I would if I were reading it. I felt the narration hindered my imagination but I wasn’t ready to give up on the book so I switched to the ebook to finish it. The story was sweet, the dialogue funny and I liked a lot of the characters. Ruby was funny and I admired her determination and dedication to herself, Nic while also funny was a little bit too perfect, he didn’t seem to have a single flaw. I really enjoyed this one.
I really loved this book! It was dual POV between Ruby and Nic which is my favourite because I love being able to read from both sides of the story. Both of the protagonists were great and had interesting storylines besides the romance brewing between them. I was really rooting for these two characters to be together and was hoping that they would get their 2nd chance at happiness!
I would definitely recommend this book! I really enjoyed her previous books and this one was no exception!
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for access to this eARC. Access was given in exchange for my honest review. This fantastic book comes out May 26.
I had read one Laura Jane Williams' previous books, Our Stop, and absolutely loved this so when I saw it was available for request, I knew I needed to read it. I'm so glad that I did because it really did hit the spot!
Our two main characters, Nic and Ruby, meet by happenstance when Ruby is selling her sofa on Facebook Marketplace. Nic has just moved to London and Ruby is about to move away so this one night is all they're going to have, right? As one can safely assume, what with this being a romance novel and them being the main characters, this can't possibly be accurate but it sure is interesting to watch the ways that this author finds of making their paths continue to meet up.
"We had a one night stand, Nic. Of course it was only sex."
"Until it wasn't."
"Until it wasn't."
I really enjoyed Ruby's Year of Me quest to put herself first after breaking up with a man who treated her all kinds of wrong, moving to a new city and embarking upon her master's degree. Her schooling is in filmmaking and watching that subplot develop was definitely entertaining. I loved JP and his desire to meet up with a woman he hadn't seen in over 70 years.
Also, an interesting concept that I'd never really seen explained this way was the freedom of commitment, how, when you commit yourself to the relationship you are in, you can stop playing games or secondguessing everything you/they do and find a great deal of freedom in that.
Just as with Our Stop, I'm left wanting to read more of this author's work because it is just so so good!
4 stars!
A huge thanks to the publisher for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
TW: Miscarriage, death, injury
One Night With You tells the story of two lovers in need of a break and some good news who meet unexpectedly one night. In a chance encounter Ruby meets Nic on her last night in London before she has to leaves to study in Manchester.. Is one night enough? We follow these two people find themselves and each other . Not only will this book haunt you but you will be thinking of it for a long time
What a lovely romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you are looking for an easy to read holiday book, then this is perfect for you.
Ruby is moving away from London, and Nic is moving to London. Nic meets Ruby when he goes to her house to buy a sofa from her. They like each other immediately, and Nic is soon invited back for pizza with Ruby and her housemates. What will happen though when Ruby has to leave London. Will she be able to see Nic again so that they can explore their feelings?
This is a great book, which is funny and light-hearted, with dabs of sadness too, to make it feel authentic. A heart-warmer for sure, this book will give you all the feels, and satisfy that cosy space in you that you have been waiting to be filled!
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A thoroughly refreshing romantic read where the characters actually say what they’re thinking to each other! I really enjoyed the love story and how it developed. I adored the story within a story of JP and his lost love.
Fun and heartwarming this story is told through the alternating points-of-view of Ruby and Nic. Ruby is leaving London and ready for a new adventure. Nic is new to London and ready for adventure as well. Through a chance encounter, they meet and spend the night together. I enjoyed the element of "fate" that was woven in this story and found myself cheering for Ruby and Nic!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
A story of two people that meet at the wrong time and a sofa! When Nic and Ruby meet they appear to have an instant attraction but timing isn’t on their side. Both trying to find their place in the world but destined to be together? Also loved the part of the story about Ruby and Harry trying to find a piece of JPs past which also brings about part of Williams future. A really lovely story
Ruby and Nic - Nic and Ruby. Their lovestory was like a rollercoaster and I absolutely loved it. The Ups and Downs. That the reader couldn't be sure if they're getting the happy end they deserve or not. But I have to say, that the ending was a good choice for them. Most book couples get ist for sure, but with Ruby and Nic, you just couldn't be. Because of her problems with the miscarriage and the knowing he will be a dad. With Nic, who knows that he loves Ruby, but also couldn't choose between her and his child. And the solution from all of it matched to them.
The only thing I recognized, was the length. In some chapters I got the feeling that the scenes were too long, so that I needed a break or just layed the book down. But the rest? It was a lovely friends-to-Lovers and second chance romance, which I loved :)
When I love a book, I can struggle with writing a review. Putting my thoughts down on paper (as it were) is an impossible feat, so forgive me if this seems rather basic.
Okay, so this may sound a little OTT, but I have no other way to describe this book other than pure Romcom perfection!
I have nothing but love for this book and everything in it. Yes, it’s hilarious and has plenty of moments of gorgeous love, but it is more than a romcom. It’s a beautiful reflection of real life.
Nic and Ruby are the central characters, but as with real life, it’s never straightforward, and we can find our life taking a completely different route to the one we had planned or expected. That life’s complexities make us realise we never know what can happen. From chance encounters to love long gone but never forgotten and, of course, how a goodbye can turn into a hello. It is all part of life’s rich tapestry and is reflected beautifully in this book.
The whole crew are brilliant. There isn’t a character I didn’t love. JP especially stole my heart. He is adorable.
This book has love, friendships, fallouts, heartbreak and surprises galore.
Honestly, I could gush about this book all day, every day. It’s one of my top favourite romcoms, and Laura Jane Williams is now a firm favourite author.
I cannot leave this review without mentioning the brilliant imagery. Now, I know that may seem like a fantasy book term, but LJW words bring these characters to life. As I have an arc, there’s no guarantee this line will be in the book but using it as an example of the delightful imagery and how these few words make the character come alive.
-I bob my head from side to side and exaggerate my chewing, the universal sign for ‘Hold on - my mouth is full’-
I can easily picture that in my head and instantly laugh with the image but also knowing that, yes, I’ve done that too! It’s pure brilliance!
And another shout out for fabulous LGBTQ rep.
A massive thank you to NetGalley & Harper Collins for the arc ebook. It was a pure joy to read.
And thank you, Laura Jane Williams. Your stories are funny as hell and have so much heart.
This book covers the wavering friendship between Nic & Ruby, who meet when he buys her sofa from her. They meet at turning points in their lives, where a friendship/ relationship seems impossible. Nothing is straight forward, but there is a 'tie' between them that stays connected.
I loved the characters in this book. They are witty, likeable & relatable. The story is so good, such a wonderful narrative of people's lives, who feel they shouldn't be connected but flourish together. Very heart-warming & uplifting. Give this book a go, you will not be disappointed!
One Night With You by Laura Jane Williams is a delightful story about friendship, romance, and being true to yourself.
Ruby lives in a flat in London with her best friends, Jackson and Candice. After a recent breakup, Ruby decides to move to Manchester to attend a prestigious film school to pursue her dream of making documentaries. On her last night in London, she meets Nic, who came over to buy her couch, and they are immediately attracted to each other. They spend her last night in London, and his first night in London together.
Ruby has decided to dedicate her year at film school to be the Year of Ruby, where she totally dedicates her time to being the best version of herself. She has vowed to avoid relationships, and focus on herself. She enjoys living in Manchester and the film school and her film school friends. She runs into Nic a few times as he befriended her roommates back in London. They develop a friendship and their attraction to each other doesn’t go away.
I enjoyed Ruby’s friendship with Jackson and Candice, as they have a good solid bond at the beginning of the book. I enjoyed the chemistry between Ruby and Nic, and enjoyed following them as they each explored their new cities. I will say I thought the book bogged down a bit in the middle, there was a bit too much of will they, won’t they and it seemed like forever before they could get together.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romcom. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Thank you to NetGalley & the publishing team for arranging this arc! I've read every Laura Jane Williams novel since 'Becoming' and can safely say this is my favourite one! In my opinion, this is Laura's best romance novel with Avon. By far, the most endearing & the most relatable. If you're a twenty-something and you live in London, this will make you smile.
Passing ships / right person wrong time / strangers to lovers to strangers to friends to lovers... A brilliant formula overall. Great spicy scenes, and though they're few and far between, it's just enough to leave you wanting more.
Ruby & Nic have strong character arcs, as do the side character's (who can so often get forgotten), and it makes for a very enjoyable read. I'd recommend this to anyone but especially fans of Dolly Alderton, Bryony Gordon and Tessa Bailey.
What happens if you meet the love of your life but they're moving hundreds of miles away the next day? That's the case for Ruby and Nic, when a chance meeting over a second hand sofa introduces them to each other.
This is a classic girl meets boy love story but with a modern twist. What I loved about One Night With You is that the heroine, Ruby, doesn't give up her life goals in pursuit of love. Plus the romance is not all plain sailing, with plenty of bumps along the way.
One Night With You is a thoroughly enjoyable read, with strong characters and plenty of drama.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
Nic is moving to London, whilst Ruby is moving away from it. They meet when Nic reaches her house to buy a sofa and straightaway they like one another..
Then Nic is asked to come back for Pizza with her and the people she lives with.
When Ruby happen when Ruby is in London, are Nic and she going to see one another to send time together to explore their feelings?
The story had parts of sadness, but also some funny, light-hearted moments. A book that will give you all the feels.
I recommend this book.
Thank You NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange of honest review.
TW: death, miscarriage
Tropes: Right person wrong time, one night stand
This is my first time reading Laura Jane Williams book, But definitely I will read her books.
The book is a cute easy read book. I love JP and his story on finding true love and him being the best example.
Cheers to finding yourself and loving yourself more.
This is a new author to me and one that I will look out for from now on. This is a very enjoyable story about Ruby and Nic, and one that I raced through
Thank you to Netgalley for an ARC and for introducing me to another author
This book smells like real life. Which is not something you can often say about a romance novel.
Sometimes you meet the right person too late, or too early. You click, still the relationship is not viable, due to external circumstances. This is the story of Ruby and Nic. It is cute and funny with lots of banter, perky dialogues and texting. The author has such a charming and easy-going style that I even forgive her that the main characters eat too much junk food. There are tough decision-making situations in the story (I liked these, they felt so real), however, I could do with less philosophical contemplation about love, life and what counts or almost counts, toward the end of the book.
Another great read from Laura Jane Williams. Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for this Advance Review Copy.
Ruby is moving from London to Manchester and starting a Year Of Me after a bad break up. On her last night in the city she sells her sofa to Nic, who has just moved to London from Liverpool. Ruby and Nic instantly hit it off but say their goodbyes in the morning.
This book has it all: great dialogue, great friendships, and a storyline that really works even if in the beginning the main characters go their separate ways. If you like books by Jenny Bayliss, Abigail Mann or Beth O'Leary then this witty, heartfelt and charming book is the book for you!
I will write reviews of this wonderful, four-star book on Instagram and Goodreads this week.
A really sweet story - much more than just a love story - told from the alternating points of view of the two adorable main characters. The secondary characters were also well-crafted. I thought the pace dragged a little bit in the middle, but overall found it very enjoyable..
Another gorgeous read from one of my favourite authors.
Nic meets Ruby and her housemates by chance on Ruby's last night in London, just as Nic is newly arriving in the capital. Nic has recently split up with his long-term girlfriend, while Ruby is about to embark on a "year of me"; staying away from men, focussing on her university course and achieving her dreams. The chemistry (and sex) is unbelievable but they're both clear that this is a one night encounter with no strings attached. But with their pasts throwing them both curve balls, nothing is plain sailing.
Nic, Ruby and their friends are great characters with warm, genuine relationships. I loved reading about them venturing into their new lives, the networks of friendships they develop and how fate keeps bringing them together and tearing them apart. I just wanted to keep reading more.
Anyone else have the Elvis song One Night stuck in their head the whole time reading this?!
Anyways, to the book review. This was great! Super emotional and definitely made me tear up. Who can’t relate to right person, wrong time?!
I will say, I wasn’t a fan of a certain trope… but I won’t say what it was for spoilers (plenty of others have mentioned it). Definitely look up TW!
As a fan of Laura Jane William's previous books, I was so excited to read this one! I love her writing style and the pacing of her novels which keep me engaged and hooked right from the first chapter.
I wasn't entirely convinced by the meet-cute in this novel, it felt slightly overplayed to me and this made the characters/first few chapters feel quite stereotypical and cliché but once I got past that, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and would definitely recommend it as a relaxing, romantic read.
I enjoyed readying this book so much! This was the perfect balanced romance that I needed. This is the kind of book that is perfect for a raining day when you can curl up under a blanket with a cup of coffee. I enjoyed watching the relationship between Ruby and Nic develop.
This was a first for me by this author and I look forward to reading more of her in the future!
Right person wrong timing. Ruby is heading off to Manchester and Ric has just arrived in London but .....They meet, they have electric chemistry, and they part. And then they can't forget each other. This is told by both of them, with their back stories spooling out until......To be honest, Ruby is not the most appealing person (scamming students? Not cool.) and Ric is perhaps too nice but that's actually part of the opposites attract vibe. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A good read.
And she does it again! Laura writes the most wholesome romance novels. There should be a separate sub category in the romance genre for her.
---
Her stories are warm and fuzzy and will initially take you for a whirlwind romantic story and then from that high, real life will hit you and that's why I adore her books. You don't just live in this big dramatic love story, its a love which exists within the real world, with all its technicalities.
---
I would also like to add that this book is as much Nic & Ruby as it is JP &. Amelia. It's also about not being so cautious that you stop letting love in, about letting you heart love with all its might and becoming stronger in the process. Stronger not in the way you become hard hearted but stronger in a way that you start accepting love more.
----
Love you Laura for writing these books!
