A Gripping Tale of Identity and Intrigue

"The Serial Killer's Daughter" by Alice Hunter takes readers on a rollercoaster ride through the quaint yet unsettling backdrop of a sleepy Devon village. The story follows Jenny, a local vet, who finds herself thrust into a nightmarish situation when a woman is abducted from the village streets. Hunter weaves a tale that questions the influence of genetics and the struggle to escape the shadows of a notorious past.

What I Liked:
Hunter's narrative prowess shines as she skillfully crafts an atmosphere of tension and suspense. The vivid descriptions of the Devon village and the characters create a palpable sense of unease, drawing readers into the heart of the mystery. The exploration of Jenny's internal conflict, torn between her identity as the daughter of a serial killer and her desire to distance herself from his crimes, adds a compelling layer to the narrative.

The pacing of the novel is commendable, with well-timed revelations that keep the reader eagerly turning pages. The author successfully maintains a sense of mystery, allowing the tension to build organically until the final, satisfying resolution.

What I Disliked:
While the plot is engaging, there were moments when certain character motivations felt a bit predictable or clichéd. The theme of a protagonist grappling with their dark family history is a familiar one in the thriller genre, and at times, the story treads on well-worn ground. Additionally, some secondary characters lacked the depth needed to make them truly memorable.

Despite these minor drawbacks, "The Serial Killer's Daughter" is a captivating read that skillfully navigates the complexities of identity and familial ties in the face of heinous crimes. Alice Hunter's ability to balance suspense and emotional depth makes this novel a worthy addition to the psychological thriller genre.

This ARC was a little rough to get through. There were some parts hard to follow because it switched to a different point of view (Abi’s) with no notice, space differentiation, or anything. I also predicted the end and the twist very early on which is always a bummer.

Fantastic writing and quite a premise for second-guessing everything you know about your family. This was my first book by Alice Hunter and I will check out her other novels too. Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

This was enjoyable but a bit of a slow burner for me. Pleased I saw it through though. After a slow start it turned out to be a great read with lots of twists and turns. Didn't actually realise it was a sequel but it can definitely be read as a stand alone.

Thank you Netgalley.

Serial Killers Daughter by Alice Hunter
4 ⭐️

I’ll be honest, this took me a while to read. It actually took me 138 days which is unheard of for me. 138 days!

I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. It’s not a bad book or a hard read it just didn’t grab my attention as I expected it to. Once I committed to finishing it I actually flew through it.

It is a good book and a solid 4 star read. I think part of my problem was the main character, I just didn’t believe in her or want to back her in any way. I fully understand not wanting to delve into your past but there are just some oddities in her (and her husbands) actions that I just find peculiar.

I loved The Serial Killer's Wife so I knew I just had to read this one. I was disappointed when It was not a follow up for the first book at first. But It was well written and captivating story. Alice Hunter is well on her way to being one of the greatest writers of all time. She is so talented. Everyone should read this one.

I enjoyed reading this suspenseful story. This is a newer author for me which I look forward to seeing what is next for her. I enjoyed her writing style as well as her attention to details that made her story pop. This is a well written story where the twists and turns not only had me sitting on the edge of my seat but also turning pages fast. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world. A world of a serial killer's daughter who is trying to run from who she is. But the question remains is that can she? Is she her father's daughter? There is great growth of the plot as well as the characters. A fast paced, engaging story that is hard to put down. The characters bring the story to life and really just added to it for me. I really enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it.

After reading the Serial Killers Wife, I was extremely excited to read this book. This was a good book but unfortunately it wasn't a follow on story so I was a bit disappointed. This is a completely new storyline. However, the story was ok.
Thank you to Alice Hunter and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand, the premise intrigued me and the plot turned out to be super interesting and compulsive. The alternating viewpoints worked well and added a layer of complexity and kept the pace quick. However, the story seemed to sag part way through and I felt like my interest dipped in and out. The ending wasn’t great; it was underwhelming, and I was a little disappointed. Overall, this wasn’t a terrible book and I think many people will love it. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher, for a chance to read and review this book.
