I have read the first book called The Serial Killer's Wife and I had really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to reading this one. Both books are standalone so it doesn't matter if you haven't read the first one.
This book follows the story of Jenny, the daughter of a serial killer, she is now a lot older with a family of her own but she suffers from blackouts from time to time. Strange things start to happen and she questions what she is doing during these blackouts, or what her husband is doing.
Events start happening that relate to her past, and considering she hasn't told anyone about who she really is, she starts to think it must be herself who is doing them!

The book is a little slow paced at times, but I did still enjoy it. I think I preferred the first book to this one, but if there are ever any more books in this series, then I would definitely give it a read.

I enjoyed Hunter’s first book, ‘The Serial Killer’s Wife’ published in 2021. Both novels are standalones under the series heading of ‘The Serial Killer’s Family’.

Given this is a crime thriller, just brief details in order to avoid spoilers. When a woman is snatched from the streets in a sleepy Devon village, local vet Jenny is naturally horrified. It’s not the kind of crime that happens there.

However, it’s not the first time that Jenny has been so close to a crime scene as she is the daughter of Paul Slater, known as the Painted Lady Killer for his signature of pinning a butterfly of that name to his victims. She has spent her whole life running from this; changing her name from Jane to Jennifer, cutting contact with her controlling mother, and not even telling her husband. Yet when a series of disturbing packages with animal remains (*shudder*) are left outside her home that include butterflies pinned to them she suspects that someone close by knows her secret.

Complicating the situation is that Jenny/Jane is experiencing blackouts. She isn’t sure what she is doing during these but is increasingly worried about that she may have inherited a ‘murder gene’ from her father.

Even though sometimes a bit over the top, this was certainly a page-turner though at times I was so frustrated with Jenny/Jane. I kept saying to my Kindle: ‘no Jane talk to the police … talk to your husband please Jane’. Did she listen to me? Of course not, though it indicates that I was pretty immersed in the story and couldn’t put it down.

A third book in this series is scheduled for next summer, ‘The Serial Killer’s Sister’. I will be looking forward to it.

This is my first Alice Hunter book and certainly won't be my last. The Serial Killer's Daughter had me gripped from page one, although I kept trying to guess what the outcome would be I got it wrong. This is a five star read and a true page turner

After reading the first in this series, The Serial Killer’s Wife, last year I was eager to see how this story would follow on. Whilst this book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone as enough of the previous book information is given to make you understand what happened previously.

Is murder in the blood? Are serial killer’s born or made? These are all questions that Jenny asks herself when a woman, connected to her husband, goes missing. Jenny suffers will blackouts and she has been experiencing them more and more recently so she can’t account for her whereabouts during those times.

Jenny is also hiding a secret from everyone, including her husband. Her father is currently serving life in prison as a prolific serial killer. Desperate to keep her childhood a secret Jenny escaped her control freak mother, changed her name and started a new life. However the disappearance of this woman seems very similar to her father’s murders and it’s starting to bring back some memories. Could Jenny be responsible?

I really enjoyed this story and listened to the audiobook over the course of a day. I was immediately drawn to Jenny and what she was going through. I honestly didn’t know whether I could trust her as a narrator or if she was truly innocent. Suffice to say there are lots of red herrings, misdirection’s and tension to keep the reader interested. Jenny herself makes some questionable choices, as does her husband.

Whilst I had figured out the final twist this didn’t take away the enjoyment at all. It was fun watching the breadcrumbs fall and seeing every thing come together.

What a book, I really enjoy a book that keeps you guessing right until the last page and this was definitely that.
Jenny and Mark live in a little village where they are a part of the local community. Jenny cop owns the local vet practice. Life is good until Jenny discovers Mark has had an affair with local mum Olivia.
Jenny has secrets in her past that are about to come back to haunt her. When Olivia goes missing everything points to Jenny. As she suffers from black outs she can’t explain her whereabouts on that fateful night and even Mark has his doubts.
Will Jenny be able to prove her innocence or will her past over shadow her future..
A very enjoyable book that had me reading in the night.

The Serial Killer's Daughter is a unique story about the daughter of a serial killer. She has been running from her past and who she is related to. The perfect life she has created is turned upside down and fingers are starting to point at her direction. Once a serial killer daughter she is now a wife and mother facing pain and murder.

The author created a fast-paced story with an intriguing story with a predictable ending. That I have to admit was a little disappointing.

Overall, it is a good mystery readers will enjoy this story.

A young woman named Olivia has gone missing, and Jenny, a wife, mother and local vet, is horrified to learn of her disappearance. But Jenny is no stranger to this type of crime. As the daughter of a prolific serial killer, she is all too familiar with the pattern of this offense. Having spent most of her life running from her true identity, Jenny claims she is nothing like her father, but since she has started suffering from blackouts, she can’t be sure she isn’t somehow involved in Olivia’s abduction. Has she developed her father’s murderous tendencies or will she find a way to clear her name and step free from the shadow of her father’s crimes?

This was an interesting read, especially with the inclusion of Jenny’s blackouts. All of the evidence seemed to point to her and even her husband had his doubts in her innocence. But at the same time, Jenny’s husband wasn’t perfect either. Mark had connections to Olivia as well and at times I thought, who’s to say he isn’t the guilty one. I was quite surprised by how this story turned out, and I felt the end fizzled out a bit, but overall it was worth reading.

The telling of the story is set in a really tight area with a lot of focus on a few key hot spots which made for a really tense and exciting atmosphere throughout.

Jenny and her husband had another level of tension within their marriage and of course Jenny herself is hiding a huge secret from everyone.

Therefore when someone goes missing and Jenny is experiencing missing time there are so many loose ends and potential outcomes that the story starts to wind in on itself ratcheting the tension up even further. 

There were many times where I couldn't even begin to imagine how Jenny was holding everything together and I really had no idea who was going to turn out to be behind it all.

Masterfully told, The Serial Killer's Daughter is a gripping read that kept me guessing throughout.

Following on from 'The Serial Killer's Wife' we now have the new story of 'The Serial Killer's Daughter' which is a completely brand new story.

Jenny's world comes crashing down around her when a local woman, who previously had an affair with her husband, Mark, goes missing. With Mark acting distantly and Jenny suffering from bizarre blackouts and sleepwalking episodes Jenny is worried that her past is finally catching up with her. What Jenny has failed to share with anyone is that her father is the famous 'Painted Lady Killer' murderer, Paul Slater. Somebody is using copycat actions to get Jenny's attention but who could it be? Could it actually be Jenny's own self-consciousness screaming out for attention.

I initially found this book quite a slow burner but I got to the mid point and then could not put it down. The action definitely heats up around this stage and little clues start to gel together. There are lots of ups and downs with plenty of red herrings to try and catch the reader out.

All in all this was a good read. I would recommend. The characters are complex and I was rooting for Jenny throughout.

Firstly, I didn't realise this was a sequel. I hadn't read the serial killers wife - so I'm not sure if that played a part in my disliking of this book.
I found this book to be incredibly slow - unusual for a thriller. I struggled with the motivation of picking this book up to carry on reading.
I found the plot to be unoriginal and this left me feeling a bit flat while reading. It definitely was not the page-turner I was hoping it would be.

The audio book had two separate narrators for each of the POV's - I liked this idea, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough to spark the excitement with this lack lustre thriller.

Yikes, that ending tho! Was a fast paced page turner right from the start. Really enjoyed the back and forth and mysterious story lines and was still taken aback in the final chapters. Alice Hunter is a star.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC! After reading The Serial Killers Wife last year, I couldn’t wait to read the sequel! And it did not disappoint. It’s as thrilling and tense as the first book. A really well written thriller that will keep you guessing to the end. I devoured it in one day, I couldn’t wait to find out what was happening!

Jenny, our main character, is a veterinarian, married to Mark. Mark has no idea of her family’s history. Jenny’s dad is in prison, he is a serial killer. Jenny believes Mark once had an affair with Olivia, a local woman that is missing. Jenny is having blackouts and weird things happen during these incidents.
The story takes off from here and it’s a thrilling ride. I really enjoyed this one. I feel like these type of thrillers are best going in without reading all the blurbs on the book, it makes it more of a surprise! Highly recommend this read.

Jenny is the daughter of a serial killer and she was running from her past. This is not the first time when jenny has been near a crime scene. Mark is jenny's husband and the missing woman was once his girlfriend.
I love this book although it was a slow burner after you started reading it there is no coming back. The story is told from the perspective of Jenny and Mark which I really like about this book. what I don't like about the book is the broken momentum that you witness at different places in the story. but overall it's a good story. A good summer thriller. 3.5 star from my side.

Jenny has left her past behind her, settling in a small Devon village with her husband and two children no one knows anything about her past. Or do they? Busy with life and her vets practice Jenny realises things are going seriously crazy, she’s always had night terrors but hasn’t had a blackout for years, now they are back. Why can’t she remember what she’s done and where she’s been ?
Although it is slow and slightly overlong it is a great story told from a different standpoint with a terrific ending.

This is the second novel in The Serial Killer's Family series and it held up to the first novel. I rated the first novel 4 stars and continued to enjoy this series for another 4 star rating. This novel follows the serial killers daughter as an adult when things start to go wrong around her. The murder of the woman her husband cheated on her with, dead animals turning up on the porch, and her sleeping walking problems causes her and her husband to start questioning if she is guilty and following suit with her father.

I began to question who could possibly be the person causing this much havoc in her life and who would be gaining the most from this type of harm, Eventually I was able to guess who it could possibly be, but I enjoyed the entire novel and the twist of the story.

I recommend for people who have read the first novel and enjoyed it because it furthers the storyline from that book and also for people who enjoy an interesting thriller.

Jenny has dark secrets she has never shared with her husband or best friend; Mark knows she is hiding something, but he doesn't want to rock the boat after what he did. The story begins with disturbing scenes and continues with frequent instances of animal cruelty that I disliked. It's a complex story that conjures a sense of foreboding in the reader. Told from differing viewpoints, the reader has an omnipotent view of the characters' motivations, but the narrators are unreliable, and the numerous twists make you wonder what is next?

Believable characters and a plot full of twists make this a thought-provoking read.

Alice Hunter’s first novel The Serial Killers Wife was the first ever book I requested on NetGalley. I had picked it purely on the look of the book and the description and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to read it (see other post for that review). Based on that book I was so hoping she would write another and when I seen she had, I just had to request it.

I read this book while on holiday and it was really good. I enjoyed the short chapters and jumped between Jenny and her husband Mark. The storyline was easy to follow which I really need in a book. Overall I enjoyed the different characters and there different perspectives. There was many twists throughout right up until the end!

Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
