This book is marketed as a dark mafia romance, but I wouldn’t exactly call it dark—and there wasn’t much romance to speak of either. While the violence is there, it never really dives into the gritty intensity you’d expect from a mafia story. What initially drew me in was the intriguing Lawyer x Mafia rival angle, especially with the promise of a friends-to-lovers-to-enemies arc. However, the tension of prosecuting an ex-best friend and rival fizzles out once the main plot kicks in, and I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about that shift.

There were also moments in the story that just didn’t make sense to me, though it’s possible these loose ends will be tied up in the sequel, ''Her Hero''. Still, the writing style was solid, and the action scenes were a definite highlight, well-paced and exciting. The lead-up to the main plot was well-executed, and the pacing kept me engaged. The characters were likeable, though they didn’t quite live up to the darker, more intense personas I was expecting from a mafia-themed story.

All in all, it was a decent and quick read that kept me interested enough to finish. While it didn’t blow me away, it did enough to make me curious about where the story might go next. That said, I’m not completely sold on continuing with the series just yet. If you’re looking for something light with mafia elements but not too much darkness, this one might be worth a shot.

A Dark romance with a Romeo and Juliette twist. I enjoyed this one, it's a short read, I enjoyed the kidnapping storyline to this - but definitely check the triggers.

Can we talk about that cover? Absolutely beautiful, and it’s what drew me to this book. The story didn’t disappoint. It’s a very dark mafia romance, so make sure you pay attention to the warning at the end of the blurb. Sloane and Joseph are amazing characters, and the heat between them just radiates off the page. The slow burn had me screaming at the page, just wanting them to give in. Marlowe does an amazing job of bringing the story to life, and drawing you in before you know what’s happening. If you want a dark, sexy, tantalizing read that’ll heat you up, then grab this one.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author Quinn Marlowe, and the publisher Spitfire Press (Glass House Press) for this e-arc to review.

HER ROMEO by QUINN MARLOWE is an mafia romance book following Sloane who's been forced to go back to the mafia world she grew up in to find out what happened to her parents. On her way there, she's intercepted by rival mafia family and taken by their son, Joseph, who is also her ex-best friend and romantic interest.

The premise of this story intrigued me, I wanted to know more about this internal pull Sloane would have between wanting to find her parents but being emotionally, romantically pulled towards Joseph knowing he could've been involved with what happened to her parents. And I was eating it up! I wanted to know more about how Sloane left the mafia world to live the life she wanted, how that affected her relationships with her family. I wanted to know where her parents are and what's going on with Joseph and his father. I don't read mafia romances often because they can be heavy with the violence and traumatic events but Her Romeo?? There was just a balance of those usual mafia romance aspects but was still so digestible and entertaining. At one point, I checked my read percentage to update Storygraph and was shocked to see that I made it about 70% through in one sitting! I definitely didn't think that I had read a lot but maybe I did and just didn't notice because I was enjoying it so much. What I didn't realize was this book was 1) part of a series and some information is given in the prequel, 2) would be ending on a cliffhanger with so many open plot points and 3) little but everything would happen. Most of these realizations came towards the end of the story when I realized that it was ending but... wasn't ending. For example, the tension between Sloane and Joseph seemed to ease, and they became more romantic towards each other but none of the other plot points were resolved. Sloane has yet to question Joseph for his potential involvement with her parents' disappearance. Having plot points continue on in upcoming books is fine, I just wasn't aware that this was how the book was going to go and was disappointed by the ending.

Overall, HER ROMEO is a fun and fast-paced mafia romance with some aspects of the Romeo and Juliet story we all know and love. It is a great beginning or foundation. I am interested in continuing to find out what happens next and can see myself binging the series.

Thank you to netgalley for sending me an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

I love a mafia romance. I enjoyed reading sloan and Josephs story,
This is a Romeo and Juliet retelling with a hint of mafia and modern world setting.
I liked Quinns writing style and this book was right up my alley.

She's my best friend from childhood. The girl I thought I loved once. And the woman who just threatened to put me in jail, courtesy of the case she's prosecuting in court. She's also now my prisoner.

Sloane Brennan thought she was on top of the world. Hell, she was on top of the world. But she's also the daughter of my father's enemy, and when my father decides to kidnap her and use her as leverage against her own father, then puts me in charge of watching over her...

Let's just say it puts ideas in my head. Bad, bad ideas. Ideas that I've been fantasizing about for years.

After all, I'm supposed to be taking care of her while she's under the Rossi umbrella, right? And no one actually defined what that means. Right?

When the plan goes awry, though, and it becomes apparent that Sloane's life is actually in danger and my feelings run a whole lot deeper than I realized, I have to recalculate my actions, and decide whether my loyalty is to the family... or the girl I've always loved.

*Her Romeo is the second book of three in Sloane and Joseph's story, and is a dark mafia romance and includes violence and mature sexual themes. If you’re triggered by guns, sex, rape, or murder, this isn’t the series for you.

I highly recommend picking this one up!

Some might say it was a slowburn but I don't know... maybe it was because of how it was set up but I didn't get romance from this story.
- I love short chapters but the problem was since the book is short, the short chapters did nothing to the story. Scenes were cut off when it could've just kept rolling because the next chapter was still in the same character's pov.
- On a positive note though I would say if you are wanting to dip your toes in mafia this might be for you or if you wanna try spice this could be for you as well. I think I remember there being one spicy scene.

Unfortunately this book as short as it was, it did not deliver what I expected from a dark mafia romance. the heroine, as smart as she was MEANT to be be, she was actually quite dumb and made some stupid ass decisions. He wasn't any better either. It all felt so far fetched.

I love the Romeo and Juliet -esk of this story. I absolutely adore mafia romances, which is the main reason I decided to review this story. It was a bit of a slow burn which isn't my favorite thing. But the writing of this story was fantastic.

This book starts with Sloane working for the D.A.’s and bringing a case against her former friend Joseph who also is the enemy of her father. When she decides to go back to Brooklyn to see her father because of his being sick. Joseph’s father decides to kidnap her and send her and Joseph to Italy where he hopes that the case will die off. While they’re in Italy the two find the passion that they once had for each other only to discover that they are to be killed. The end of the book must wait for the next one again.

Forbidden love between two mafia families, particularly when one is a promising prosecutor and the other has been charged with racketeering. It's a well-done dark rendition of Romeo and Juliet, complete with mafia romance.

Her Romeo (a Dark Mafia Romance)
Mafia Rogues: The Rossi Chapter Book 1
by Quinn Marlowe

Sloane is assistant attorney general for New York her father is an Irish crime Lord. She is prosecuting Joseph Rossi who was a childhood friend but is now heir to New York’s leading Mafias crime family. A twist on a Romeo / juliet type romance . Sloane is kidnapped and it is Joseph's job to try and keep her safe from death or worse.

A reasonably good read but the book is only part one and you are left with a cliffhanger and hence no closure to the story. Which is a bit disappointing.

I love mafia romances, and this was no exception! I'm also a sucker for Shakespeare so I loved the twist with Romeo & Juliet. The chemistry between the main characters were amazing. So electric. The slow burn was gorgeously done. The spice, the tension, the stakes. I'm in love. I can't wait to read more by this author. I fully recommend if you love dark romance mafia books!

It's a spice driven fast paced romance. Not the best mafia romance I've read but by far not the worst.

The chemistry between Joseph and Sloane was great mixed with the slow burn aspect. Them being from rival families certainly helped the tension.

I'll definitely pick up the 2nd book and read the prequel.

This felt a little too fast-paced for my taste. So I couldnt really connect or love the characters like I would've liked. I did enjoy the action and romance between Joseph and Sloane but I wanted more from them. I hope we get more of that in the next book. Certain parts felt a little repetitive but it wasn't too bad. Overall, I thought that this was a decent read.

I enjoyed this book! It’s a mafia romance which I am fairly new to reading and it was a fun read. I’ll be looking out for the second book in the series to be released, 4/5 stars⭐️

Very interesting take on Romeo and Juliet! A slow burn mafia version was done nicely. I was glued to the book from start to finish, I didn't want it to end, but it did. And with a cliffhanger! I am looking forward to the second book in this story line.

Thanks for the ARC Netgalley.

I'm not sure how to rate this. I loved it but it also felt too fast paced. It ended with a cliffhanger and I felt wound up with adrenaline but also disappointed. Im still not positive what to give for a star rating but I do recommend others read it so I guess that answers me.
