I loved this book more than I thought i would Romeo and Juliet retelling says usually hit or miss for me but this one wow!
Romeo and Juliet with a modern twist with a splash of mafia romance.
The chemistry between Joseph and Sloane is immeasurable and just flows so well throughout the book. The amount of spice throughout the pages is perfect.
It is the perfect book for anyone who usually enjoys slow burn; Mafia romance and second chance romance with the added mystery and intrigue.
While this was a good book I got through it relatively quickly when I started it was kind of basic I feel like you didn’t learn that much about the characters and their “enemies” part of the story seemed like they were trying so hard to dislike each other for no real reason like the characters new and I knew that they didn’t really hate each other so the dislike seemed very forced all that being said it was still a good mafia romance and I will read the next one! 3.5 stars
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC. I didn't get to read the prequel but I wish I had. This book was so good that when i got to the end i kept going looking for more story pages. I thought maybe they did some from me. I cannot wait for the next installment. Two kids from warring mafia families who are secretly in love with each other. One has to save the other but I almost feel like they will save each other.
There is always a fine line between love and hate.
Joseph and Sloane are no different. She is the attorney currently prosecuting him. She is also the daughter of a rival Mafia family, and his former childhood best friend. Joseph has been taught to hate the Brennan's all his life, and vice versa. But, when Sloane's life is in danger, will Joseph turn his back on her or save her from her fate?
There was a good amount of action, Mafia politics, spicy scenes and suspense that kept me wanting to figure out what happens next. It does end on a major cliffhanger so be prepared for that!
My only real issue with this book is that it reads like it is going to be a full length novel, but then it abruptly ends. So it's kind of like a novella? I wish we would have gotten the full story all at once instead of in what appears to be segments. But other than that, I enjoyed reading it and especially enjoyed the banter back and forth between Joseph and Sloane.
I would recommend if you're looking for an easy to read dark romance.
Her Romeo is a fast paced story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It didn't feel like a book because the whole time I was reading it, it was playing out like a movie inside my head. The plot was so good I basically flew through this book in one sitting. I will say that it did have spice in it enough to keep you reading. I'm so invested to these characters that I'm already thinking of purchasing the new book w continue the story.
Omg what a book fantastic read, if you love dark romance this is for you, be warned there are triggers in this book so please read the blurb first if you have triggers, but oh the story line was just brilliant loved it so much
Okay book but spent most of it wondering why these two couldn’t have just got married to end this feud. They obviously had a great attraction and horrible families. Three stars.
I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review.
This is a quick read, and my first by this author. I found it to be OK, but not to be added to my favorites list. Sloane and Joseph are the children of enemy mafias. They’ve been best friends all their lives up until about 3 years ago. Joseph’s father demands that he kidnap Sloane and drop her off at another mafia head’s house for keeping, in order to keep Sloane’s father in line. The problem is, this crime boss is one of the worst out there.
Sloane’s personality bothered me a little bit. She’s kidnapped and had at least two attempted rapes, and although we’re told she’s terrified, we don’t see it. We do, however, see her anger and feistiness. She sasses everyone, and I just couldn’t relate. The chip on her shoulder was almost too much, and it made feeling a love connection between her and Joseph hard to imagine.
My thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Her Romeo by Quinn Harlowe.
Mafia romances have been my guilty pleasure for a while now so i was excited to find this one. However i was disappointed upon reading it. It has a good premise but it doesnt really pay off in the story. We are given too much information in the synopsis for the length of the book. You can guess what is likely to happen just from the information given and that took away a lot of my enjoyment, The book itself was very short and could have definitely had more in it. Also the smut was boring for a mafia romance, there needed to be more tension and I just didn’t feel the chemistry or anything behind the characters. I needed more for this unfortunately But im sure there’s someone out there that will love this
Honestly, I was led to believe this book would be dark, hot and full of suspense. I read the whole thing in one night (it feels so short?!) and honestly was so confused when it finished. It just wasn't the romance novel I expected. The start feels promising but I just wasn't into it. It feels rushed and kind of dull to be honest.
Won't be reading any of the others unfortunately
This short novel is the sequel to the teaser novella A Very Rossi Christmas, and is the second book in the series... it picks up three years after the events in AVRC.
Sloane Brennan is the daughter of the Irish mob boss in NYC, and Joseph Rossi is the oldest son and heir apparent to the Italian mob in New York... they use to secretly be best friends as children until their circumstances torn them apart on the night of their high school graduation. Over the last eight years, Sloane had distanced herself as much as possible from the family business as she studied to become a lawyer. Joseph, on the other hand, leaned into his role and worked his way to becoming his father's right hand man. Three years ago, a chance encounter in LA led to a one-night-only affair. Now Sloane is back in NYC as a lawyer and prosecuting Joseph for racketeering. Despite this, they’re obviously still fighting the emotions they've been worked hard to ignore all these years. When the simmering tensions between their feeding families reaches the boiling point, the pair finds themselves literally caught in the crossfire. Before she knows what’s happened, Sloane’s kidnapped by Joseph, transported to Italy, and held as leverage until her father bends to the will of Joseph’s father. As the pair realize that they don’t know who they can trust and that whatever plans there were have gone awry, they find themselves fighting not just their safety but also for a chance at a future together. It they can make it out of Italy alive
This ends on a cliffhanger, ensuring you'll keep reading to get to the end of the story (and hopefully a happy ever after). There's Romeo-Juliet style mafia romance if that's your thing, good girl-bad boy trope, and steam.
A great story that moves fast with plenty of twists and turns to the plot to keep you "turning the page" to read more. The two main characters, Joseph and Sloane, are so well laid out that you can clearly see them in your mind as you read the story. Great start to the series. I can't wait for Book 2 to see what happens next.
A modern twist to Romeo and Juliette although in this version they fluctuate between love and hate. Toss in the added suspense of being from opposing mafia families, a kidnapping and a violent double cross and you have a toxic situation to enhance those strong emotions of love and hate. Toss in some bedroom aerobics and you have a fun romance to read in a few hours. It is a short story or novella, and it does end on a major cliffhanger so be prepared for that. It almost feels like the author is writing a book, but publishing in sections rather than the full book. All in all, I'm hooked now and can't wait to see how it wraps up in the next book!
Awesome story and characters. Kept my interest throughout. Fast paced entertaining read that I definitely recommend.
Well repetitive description and internal monologues had me skimming. Good bones to the story but no real conflict resolution.
Joseph Rossi has always loved Sloane. They were best friends growing up and always had to sneak around and never get caught together. They were born into a family feud that has only gotten worse as they have gotten older. Now Sloane is a lawyer and Joseph is trying to stay under his fathers radar while wishing he could get out. His father is blaming the Sloane’s family for killing his best friend. As pay back, he made his son kidnap Sloane. He was supposed to put her on a plane and drop her off in Italy to be held until her family fell in-line with the head of the Rossi family’s way. Things start to go terribly wrong and they are now both fighting their attraction to each other while also fighting to stay alive. This book ends in a cliffhanger. I was given a copy of this book, through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a mafia romance it’s one I’ve been meaning to get round to for a while and it’s also a new author for me pleased to say I do enjoy this one a whole lot.
It was so well written, phenomenal characters, and the plot was amazing; so captivating and unique, definitely not what I was expecting when I read the blurb. I really couldn't put the book down (have a crick in my neck from sitting so long but it was totally worth it). The chemistry and sexual tension between them was just so hot and intense!
Her Romeo by Quinn Marlowe.
She's my best friend from childhood. The girl I thought I loved once. And the woman who just threatened to put me in jail, courtesy of the case she's prosecuting in court. She's also now my prisoner.Sloane Brennan thought she was on top of the world. Hell, she was on top of the world. But she's also the daughter of my father's enemy, and when my father decides to kidnap her and use her as leverage against her own father, then puts me in charge of watching over her...
Let's just say it puts ideas in my head. Bad, bad ideas. Ideas that I've been fantasizing about for years. After all, I'm supposed to be taking care of her while she's under the Rossi umbrella, right? And no one actually defined what that means. Right? When the plan goes awry, though, and it becomes apparent that Sloane's life is actually in danger and my feelings run a whole lot deeper than I realized, I have to recalculate my actions, and decide whether my loyalty is to the family... or the girl I've always loved.
A great read with good characters. I liked the cover. 4*.
