Sophie Portman has lost her husband, and she thinks she may be losing her mind.
She seeks the help of psychiatrist Andrew Thacker, but as she starts to open up, the truth begins to unravel and nothing is quite as it seems. I cannot wait to read more by this author. This author has now become a go-to author. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Brilliant!

really liked it

Oh man oh man! I never saw those twists coming. I had to reread some pages and try and wrap my head around that.

This story runs two pov’s in current time. One is Sophie’s letters to her missing husband, Jack. The other is of her therapy sessions with Dr. Thacker. All the while you are trying to piece what is going on in therapy and what happened to her missing husband. I started to think one way and then boom - what a twist again at the end.

Wow! If you’re looking for a quick read that is full of twists you’ll never see coming, look no more. Other People’s Lives delivers! I can’t say much about the plot, because I don’t want to give anything away. What I can say is paranoia, jealousy and revenge can be a deadly combination. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, it would take a turn that I never expected. This is definitely a thriller that will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my copy.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a quick and captivating psychological thriller, this is it! This is my first book read by author, J. E. Rowney, and will not be my last.

Sophie Portman feels as though she is being watched since the disappearance of her husband, Jack Portman. Jack is a geologist who was set to go on one of the greatest expeditions of his lifetime, when he never made it. The novel explores Sophie's exploration of her potential stalker through sessions with her psychiatrist, until the near end when everything comes together and you find out what happened to Jack. I could not put this down!

The beginning starts off a little slow as you are getting to know the characters and setting, but then it just takes off! There was one twist that had me going back to see how I could have missed it.

Stellar novel! Would highly recommend for fans of Mystery/Thriller!

I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Shades of The Silent Patient and Gone Girl!

Sophie has been having a very difficult time coping ever since her husband went missing seven months ago. Jack, a geologist and frequent adventurer, was awarded a key expedition to take place in Russia. The problem is, he hasn't been seen since. Sophie is certain someone is watching her. Could it be Jack? She writes letters to her husband, seals them and puts them in a drawer. Unable to work, she has taken a leave of absence from her teaching position.

She seeks psychiatric help from Dr. Thacker, an unreliable, perplexing, and very creepy narrator. He asks Sophie, “Let me ask you. Are you worried that someone is watching you, or are you worried that you think someone is watching you?”

Other People's Lives is a very slow burn, which plods along like a fact finding mission, at first. Stay with it. Rowney expertly, and quite neatly, lays out out all the clues and puzzle pieces in three POVs - pay attention, and wait for the explosive finale. A rare treat of a twist, not to be missed. Loved it.

My gratitude to NetGalley, J.E. Rowney, and Books Go Social, for the opportunity to read this fabulous ARC in exchange for my honest and wholly independent review,

A short, carefully-constructed thriller that left me speechless. For a while it seemed to be meandering but the author is setting everything up and you need to be pay careful attention while reading. I was left gobsmacked.

J.E Rowney is brilliant. But I was very surprised when it knocked it out of the park! This was a total complete shock and you think you have it figured out 10 times and BAM, the biggest, badest Gocha I ever read.Brilliant ,best in YEARS

"Are you worried that someone is watching you or are you worried that you think someone is watching you?"

this read was the one where the silent patient met the gone girl. the story had too much of potential for a great shock and it could have been best ever thriller that I could have ever read but unfortunately I saw the climax coming. This was a very basic domestic thriller, light how the story portrait different point of views. story explain the story from multiple point of view is very appreciable.

The language was very simple to understand and the story got me hooked right from the beginning. I like the engaging tone of the story where the author tried to explain what the main character actually thinks.

overall I would say that the story was amazing intriguing and definitely suspense full. since I have read better books from this genre I would like to give it a 3/5 stars.

I would like to thank @NetGallery and the publisher for the ARC of this book.

I had a hard time following the story, a lot of the time I couldn't tell if it was the psychologist's thoughts, or the stalkers. I got lost and I even had to pick up another book in between.
It didn't really matter much because I couldn't get involved with any of the characters, they were not enough to make me care about them.

Other People's Lives is a gripping psychological thriller from bestselling author JE Rowney.

Tricky, tricky! I am super detail focused so I had some idea of the twist before it happened. The problem is, I felt that there could have been soooo much more story leading up to, and after said twist.

Another issue is that the twist is so mind-boggling that some readers finish the book and still don’t understand what the heck happened! I totally get that!

Still was fun to read!

Thanks to #NetGalley for the advanced copy!!

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

A brilliant book with a twist you don’t see coming, couldn’t put it down.

I really, really wanted to love this book but it just wasn’t for me. It was confusing and the ending just seemed rushed.

Other people lives by j e Rowney released April 2022. This is a inside glimpse of a psychiatrist thoughts as he sees patients. This book did not hold my attention. Not a lot goes on in this book

I’ve seen rave reviews for this but it just wasn’t for me. It had all the elements that I usually love but there was no oomph to this unfortunately.

This is my third read by the author and, by far, the best. Sure, psychological thrillers are a dime a dozen these days and sure, Rowney is still solidly in the middle of the variety pack quality-wise, but she’s upping her game. The plot objectively might have used some thickening and the ending might have used some more whoomp, but the narrative trick used here is quite clever and sustained nicely for optimal effect.
Usually, with these books it is the ending that goes for that gotcha effect, but here it’s a trick that stretches throughout the entire novel. Nicely done.
The basic plot is…well, fairly basic. A woman whose beloved husband disappeared some seven months ago grieves him. This grief is expressed through her undeliverable letters to him and the therapy sessions she starts going to. The therapist/client relationship is…complicated as we find out through the alternating narrative strands, but then again the mind is such a complicated place to finetune. And sometimes, what you think of it a reasonable one on one relationship is in fact a threesome of the most undesirable third wheel variety.
That’s probably all I can safely say without giving too much away. Suffice it to say, it was entertaining. And not all that predictable. Both huge pluses, especially considering the genre.
The things Rowney really aces are narrative engagement and pacing. This novel draws you right in and speeds by like a bullet train on coke. I can’t believe it clocks in at just over 300 pages, because it was such a quick read. And so, for the time spent and entertainment value gained, it’s worth the read. Thanks Netgalley.

Is it still a good twist if it's actually quite clever but so poorly executed that you don't grasp it until much later? There was a lot of potential for shock effect (the good kind) but instead I mistook the twist for formatting issues. I had to re-read from the start again to fully appreciate what the author did.

This is a very typical domestic thriller and more of the same from the genre, though I did like its take on how we tend to covet other people's lives. I started out really enjoying the suspense but it just got increasingly underwhelming the further I progressed. Overall, it's a breezy and interesting read but not my cup of tea after having been left jaded by so many other similar books.

I don't have the words to express how much I loved this book. "Other People's Lives" kept me on the edge of my seat since it is a fast-moving book with lots of twists and turns. It took me a couple of moments to wrap my brain around the ending but once I did...I was speechless. There are lots of comparisons to "The Silent Patient" and that means rather fair to me. I loved "The Silent Patient" and loved this one also. People who like psychological thrillers will love this one. Thanks for the advance review copy.
