This was such an emotional read.
A father that leaves every 6 months and you have no idea why, but then the opportunity comes up for you spend time with him in Jamaica, but not everything is as it seems.

There are some questionable things that start to arise from the past and secrets begin to surface.
You really feel for Tilla all her emotions rush at you at once.

A beautiful and heartwrenching story of family, love and loss. Asha Bromfield captivates you and takes you right to Jamaica and the storytelling is so vivid I felt like I could taste the jungle air.

A wonderfully complex story about family. Tilla and Mia travel to Jamaica to spend the summer with their dad and extended family. Tilla's summer on the island is a rollercoaster of new friends, aunts, cousins, uncles, romance, mistakes, blame and tragedy. In this strange culture they are judged by rules they don’t understand. Tilla discovers a complexity in her father that she had not seen when they lived as a family in Canada. Here he is adored and respected, ensuring everyone has the food and clothing they need and a far cry from the absentee father he has been to the girls oversees.

This was a heartbreaking, important, and eye-opening story.

As Tilla arrived in Jamaica, the setting and atmosphere were built beautifully. The author painted a vivid picture of the place, and although I’ve never been, I felt like I was there with her.

The character development was well done, and the writing was stunning. I loved this book, even though it was a tough read. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author, for a chance to read and review this book.
