This was a heartbreaking, important, and eye-opening story.

As Tilla arrived in Jamaica, the setting and atmosphere were built beautifully. The author painted a vivid picture of the place, and although I’ve never been, I felt like I was there with her.

The character development was well done, and the writing was stunning. I loved this book, even though it was a tough read. Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author, for a chance to read and review this book.

This was such a riveting read that dealt with some hard hitting issues in a sensitively and empathetic way.It was well written, with a gripping storyline and well developed characters, some of which I loved.I can't believe that this is a debut book, it was so good and I cannot wait to read more by the author.

A wonderfully complex story about family. Tilla and Mia travel to Jamaica to spend the summer with their dad and extended family. Tilla's summer on the island is a rollercoaster of new friends, aunts, cousins, uncles, romance, mistakes, blame and tragedy. In this strange culture they are judged by rules they don’t understand. Tilla discovers a complexity in her father that she had not seen when they lived as a family in Canada. Here he is adored and respected, ensuring everyone has the food and clothing they need and a far cry from the absentee father he has been to the girls oversees.

A beautiful and heartwrenching story of family, love and loss. Asha Bromfield captivates you and takes you right to Jamaica and the storytelling is so vivid I felt like I could taste the jungle air.
