Great premise, but disappointing execution. It’s a quick read and I enjoyed it enough to finish it and to confirm my guesses on the ending.

Does it get any better than a brand new B. A. Paris book?!?!?! What a fantastic psychological thriller from one of the best!!

B A Paris is a favorite author of mine, I have read all of her books. This one was disappointing. There were too many unbelievable details that made the plot far fetched. The premise was clever but I felt it ultimately failed for me. The villain was responsible for too much criminal behavior to be undetected. The murders of all her close friends only made the plot less credible. Many of the characters were inserted at the end to tie the ends together and it was too convenient. It was not a mystery except for the reason for the kidnapping. It evolved at a quick pace, but there is not much else to recommend. I was disappointed..

This book grabbed me right from the start and I admit I left a party early so I could go back to my hotel room and finish it.

The plot is a young newlywed woman and her husband are kidnapped and held separately. The story alternates between the past and present. You learn that her marriage is not an average one and her wealthy husband is a pretty bad guy. There are some great twists. I guessed one, which is the perfect amount to surprise me without making me feel too stupid. It is not graphically violent or sexual, so shouldn’t offend all but the most sensitive readers.

This was one of the best books I have read this year. I am texting so e friends right away to make sure they don’t miss this one. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed Behind Closed Doors but his other books didnt live up to the that book until....

The Prisoner is full of suspense and is filled with alot of twists. I was a bit claustrophobic while reading as i felt i was a prisoner alongside Amalie. Thats how good the writing is.

the end of the story left me unsatisfied. Alot was not answered.

B.A.Paris has another bestseller on his hands.

4.5 stars, rounded up.

Without giving it away…

Amelie finds herself homeless after the passing of her father until she meets a good group of friends, who then introduce her to their douchey billionaire boss.

After a proposition which leads her into an arrangement with said boss, she learns things about him that are quite sketchy.

Then they are kidnapped. Amelie is trapped in a pitch black room for weeks with failed attempts of escape… until she is set free…

Part two is the aftermath of the kidnapping and Amelie’s search to find the truth.

I highly enjoyed this thriller. It had me on the edge of my seat, had unpredictable twists, and the ending resolved all my questions. I would definitely recommend it.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!

Another great book with twists and surprises by BA Paris. I read this in one day, as I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next with Amelie and her kidnappers. Is she suffering from Stockholm syndrome, or are they actually being kinder to her than her husband ever has been? After her release, she still feels imprisoned until she finds out the truth about why it all happened. Will she get the closure she so desperately needs? And what about the money? Will she get the money she was promised by her husband?

Thank you herbal let for this ARC.

This is a thriller that goes from past to present to afterwards in a very compelling manner that encourages turning the next page to know the ending. Another great success by B.A. Paris

Let me start by saying I enjoy B.A. Paris. However her books are always hit or miss for me, and this was a total car wreak of a book for me..

There's ZERO character development so I never once felt emotionally attached to anyone and couldn't care less what happened to all of them.

don't read this.

Tense page-turner we've come to expect from Paris! Secrets inside secrets, tension, betrayal, and rampant privilege coming due. A strong story - clear your calendar because you won't stop once you start!

I love B.A. Paris and this book was fantastic. The book is broken up into 2 parts. The Kidnapping which alternates between the past and present. The second part of the book is the Reckoning which takes us to everything that happens after the kidnapping. This book was fast paced and thrilling. At some points I was just why and what?!!! Compelling characters and dialogue and the plot moved along so well. I really enjoyed the second part more than the first because it really shocked me and I had to go back and reread certain details. I love that I didn’t completely figure out the twists all the way. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me an arc for my honest and unbiased review.

This was a good story, but not my favorite by this author. I enjoyed the 1st part of the story but I was very disappointed in the way that it abruptly felt like it ended. I will continue to read stories by Paris. Thank you netgally for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Alternating between past and present, the novel focuses on Amelie who has been kidnapped after her surprise marriage to billionaire Ned.. Before her marriage, she is penniless and accepts a job with Carolyn as a housekeeper and cook. B.A Paris keeps us guessing the reason behind Amelie's kidnapping, Alternating between past and present, there are so many twists and turns to the plot along with surprise character identities that the reader will not know the truth until the surprise ending..

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

This is a fast paced thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. While the premise is not believable, it is definitely engaging and enjoyable.

I have loved the prior books by B.A. Paris, but for some reason I have to put this in the DNF pile, which saddens me cause I do love the author!
This story is told between past and present. Sadly mostly predictable....

B.A. Paris is good!
What in the world did I just read?
This is one intense, suspenseful and at times almost painfully slow book to absorb.
Was this intentional?
It certainly gave me a more complete understanding of what it must have felt like to be Amelie, (who is the main character ) and imprisoned for weeks not knowing if if she would live or die. There was no interaction, light or communication.
Who and why would someone kidnap this young woman?

Told from alternating chapters, present and past, we learn how this craziness all came to be! Or do we?
I had no clue how it might end until the last pages! See if you can figure it all out!

When I saw B.A. Paris had a new book, I couldn't wait to read it. I am such a huge fan of her books, and I found The Prisoner to be a fast paced, page turner that kept me wanting to know the ending!

The book is split up into two parts - Part 1, The Kidnap and Part 2, The Reckoning. Part 1 goes back and forth between past and present; this was my favourite part of the book as it was very suspenseful and
kept me wanting to read. I really like Amelie and was rooting for her the entire time.

If you're a fan of B.A. Paris or haven't read any of her books yet, I recommend you picking up this one!

The Prisoner is a fast-paced story that doesn’t immediately grab you, but once the action starts it keeps on rolling. The first Part of the book is told in alternating past/present point of view of main character Amalie Lamont. It shows us what she’s going through now as “The Prisoner” and everything that came together to lead her to this moment, where it then stays in the present with Part Two. I enjoyed the short chapters because it just forced you to keep going and seeing how Amalie Was a prisoner in so many different ways and aspects of her life. A lot of it was predictable for me but it’s still kept me interested in what was coming next.

I enjoyed The Prisoner by B.A. Paris, but had some issues with it as well. See below for the synopsis. I copied this synopsis from Goodreads, and I find it interesting that they completely messed up the husband's name? Amelie's husband's name is Ned in the book, but the synopsis references a Jed. Unsure why that is but it is weird to me.

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle where she married the handsome billionaire Jed Hawthorne.
But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Jed?

I really enjoyed the unknowns of Part I of this book. It jumps right in to Amelie's kidnapping, but we also get perspective of the past and how she ended up there. I love multiple timelines, so this worked for me. Part II was a little bit less suspenseful than Part I, but I admired Amelie's determination to get answers. This was an average thriller that I would recommend if you are looking for a quick book with very short chapters!

I loved BA Paris's "Behind Closed Doors." It gave me terror chills when I finished it so I went back and reread it. I keep looking for a follow-up that gives me a visceral reaction the same way that BCD did. "The Prisoner" is good, but it's not BCD.

Amelie is a nineteen-year-old old penniless orphan who winds up working at a magazine led by a charming billionaire. Her friends warn her against him, telling her stories of stalking and general creepiness, but when she's given the opportunity to fly to Las Vegas with him, she jumps at the chance. While there, he offers her a deal: marry him for one month and he'll give her $100,000 to pay for college, no strings (or sex) attached. Of course, he lies because he's a stalker, creep, and worse, and she winds up as a prisoner in his gorgeous estate. She is cut off from her friends and begins to plan her escape, but nothing goes according to plan.

The Prisoner definitely has similar themes to Behind Closed Doors--a man who seems to be perfect but is really a predator, a woman held prisoner--but the similarities end there. This book turns into a mystery about who does what and why and how, which kept my interest high for the duration. I found myself frustrated by Amelie and her stupid decisions, but then I had to remind myself that she's 19 so her decisions were the best she could make with what she had. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, and recommend it to any thriller lover.
