Having read other Paris books, I had really high hopes for this one, but it fell flat. Between the flashbacks and current time, it was easy to let my mind wander through out. Especially while listening to the audiobook. The main character, Amelie, made unrealistic choices that made her unlikeable and dramatic. The slow burn of this book made it hard to finish; I really wanted to DNF it, but pushed through.
I want to thank Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book, and Macmillan Audio for an advanced audiobook.
Wow! Just wow. My only complaint about this book is I didn’t read it sooner! I picked this up on a whim and legit couldn’t put it down. One of the most complicated plots I’ve ever come across and I’ve read a lot of books. Many thanks to netgalley and the publisher for this copy for review
I had really enjoyed the novel “behind closed doors” but was a little distracted with this one! I feel like it was rushed and maybe just needed to be polished a bit more. I’d still read more from this author though!
I really had high hopes for this one. The first part started off strong, kept my attention and had the makings of a great thriller. Then came part two, it dragged, became far fetched in parts and lacked elements to continue to be a great book.
Overall it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t fantastic either. Unfortunately we cannot give half stars so I’ll give it 3 out of 5.
This has to be one of B.A. Paris’ best works yet. The suspense in this book was so thick. The plot was very different than that of other thrillers. Our captive in this story was coming from let’s just say….. less than ideal circumstances.
The pace was slow to moderate but it was paced in a way that kept me engaged. I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
This is perfect for fans of mysteries and thrillers.
BA Paris is the author that I credit for making me fall in love with reading as an adult. I really got into reading a few years back with Behind Closed Doors, prior to that it wasn't something I really understood why people enjoyed, so I hold a very special place in my heart for BA Paris and I stop everything to read her new books.
I absolutely loved the first half of this book it had me gripped, the ending fell off for me some, so I can't give it a perfect rating even with all my love for BA but I still really enjoyed it and am so glad I got to read it!
In terms of her books I’ve read all of them. My favorites being Behind Closed Doors and Bring me Back, I would put this one towards the middle of the pack in terms of her book rankings. So if you haven’t read her books yet, I would recommend one of those two first, but if you are a fan def make sure you read this one too!
While BA Paris is a favorite of mine, so of course I’m going to love it, I LOVED this book! I devoured it. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I have already recommended it to several friends and also on my instagram stories. Once again, BA knocked it out of the park!
This book started off super promising! The story of a girl who finally made it to a sophisticated lifestyle where she married a handsome billionaire. But somewhere in the middle, I felt completely let down and did not really care for the remainder of this book. B.A. Paris awed me in the Therapist and I thought this was going to be another hit. I am still a fan and look forward to the next book!
Thank you St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
I enjoyed part one more than part two. The story started to become less realistic as it continued forward. That said, it was still an enjoyable thriller. I'll recommend to friends that enjoy other reads by B.A. Paris. I don't think it was her best one; however, it wasn't the worst either.
This started out very strong and had my attention. However, the ending dragged a bit. Overall not a horrible book, just wasn't as entertained at the end.
It took me a bit to get into this one, and the story itself didn't pick up until a good ways in. I enjoyed the slow reveal of some of the back story, and the more detailed wrap up at the end. Overall an enjoyable read, but didn't blow me away.
This isn’t my first book by B.A. Paris and it certainly won’t be my last! This author is back with another super twisty novel. This one was so captivating and kept me thoroughly entertained the whole time! I’d definitely recommend to my friends.
Every time I see a new release from B. A. Paris, I know I need to accept that I will get nothing else done until I finish reading the book! Somehow, she always creates characters who are unpredictable and drive the plot into many different exciting directions. If you haven't read anything by the author, yet, it is time to start!
Thank you netgalley flr the advanced readers copy. I was so excited to get and read the new B. A. Paris book! This book really captivated me and I loved all the twists and mystery. It was hard to put this book down! I do feel like the ending left me with many questions and really hoping for one more chapter at least. I don't feel like I have closure or a real explanation. I would still read more of B. A. Paris. Behind Closed Doors was definitely my fav!
I think this may be the last Paris book I read. The first half was fun; super fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. But then it started to get dramatic and messy and part two made me want to slam my head into a wall over and over again.
Also- PLEASE SOME TELL ME why the description calls him Jed but his name is Ned!!!!
Rating: 4/5 Stars
Amelie has spent her life trying to survive. When she marries Ned Hawthorne, a handsome billionaire, she’ll find that she’ll need a lot more than luck to help her.
When Ned and Amelie are kidnapped, Amelie must do everything in her power to continue to survive and find out why she was taken hostage in the first place.
Is this B.A. Paris’ best work? No. Is it a fun, read in a day thriller? Yes. The Prisoner doesn’t reinvent the wheel, the plot and characters aren’t unique. But if this is your shtick - it scratches the brain nicely.
Thanks to Net Galley, St. Martin’s Press, and B.A. Paris for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Another B A Paris thriller that will make you lose sleep. You will devour this book in a day. Trust me, you cannot go wrong reading a book this right!
First I want to thank Netgalley, the Author and its publisher for the ARC.
B.A. Parris never has disappointed. This is another A1 read just wow. I will say nothing else, other than, it is a must-read for anyone that enjoys a suspenseful read, intensely.
While I really enjoyed this book, I felt like it was more of a drama than a thriller. There were several different plot lines going throughout the book and a few different writing styles (split time line for the first 60%, but then just one timeline in the later portion) and it seemed a bi disjointed.
It was kind of unbelievable to me that our main character was so young because it seemed as if so much had happened to her already in her life. I don't know that thriller readers would enjoy this book, but possibly readers who enjoy complicated dramas?
3.5 stars rounded up
Kidnapping, billionaires, murder, intrigue!
The Prisoner is a story that follows Amelie, a survivor since she was young, overcoming and persevering through the passing of her father, ending up on the streets before meeting Carolyn who takes her under her wing.
After a complete change of luck, Amelie meets and marries millionaire Ned Hawthorne - finally her life is perfect… or is it?
B. A. Paris sweeps readers away with this intriguing story. The short chapters kept me turning pages, wanting to know more!
