I've read other books from Paris and this was not my favorite. It starts out great, but the excitement doesn't follow through in the rest of the book. There was great potential, but this just wasn't it for me.

This was so good at first! I was all in! With short chapters, alternating between the past and the present, I was hooked. Amelie's story was intriguing and I couldn't help but gasp a few times at what was happening.

As I got further in, however, the story started to get a little outlandish, and disbelief set in. You all know I'm not good at suspending disbelief, lol, and well, that was that. Then when I got to the end.

I loved other books by B.A. Paris, and this book did not disappoint! The plot keeps you entrigued the entire time and has a lot of different thriller aspects that build to the suspense. This book really shows you the secrets that people close to you can have!

B.A. Paris writes twisty psychological thrillers that move quickly and leave you guessing. THE PRISONER will draw you in and keep you moving through the story as you keep wondering about the end game of the story. Amelie isn’t my favorite of Paris’s characters, and her path wasn’t quite believable, but she was young, so her naiveté isn’t completely surprising. She got herself into a scary situation with her husband, and getting kidnapped and held for ransom didn’t make it any better. There are some head scratchers and a few things that I began to suspect as the books went along, but overall it’s a solid read.
Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of the novel. All opinions are my own and freely given.

I had really high hopes for this one, but it's slow and predictable. It's about 300 pages and felt like a slow burn. That is really a new one for me when it comes to mystery/thrillers. I think my time reading this author is done.

My first BA Paris! Overall this was a middle of the road thriller. The premise was quite exciting and we had plenty of twists and turns. Only a few of which I predicted. Three stars.

This story is told in past and present timelines and I thought it was a solid mystery. I flew through the dual timeline portion. I enjoyed the learning how Amelie got to the point where she is kidnapped but found myself anticipating getting back to the present. Those parts were tense and you could feel Amelie's fear and desperation to escape. I liked Amelie, Hunter and her friends. I would have liked more answers about Ned's character and how he became who he was. The ending did not go quite as I expected but I still liked it. Overall it wasn't my favorite by this author but still a good story worth reading.

I really enjoyed this one. I was sucked in from the very first chapter when you have no idea what is happening. It was a bit frustrating watching the main character make such bad choices (well really just one bad choice) when you know how it will turn out but it sets up the book perfectly. I read this one really quickly with the short chapters and the author jumping back & forth between timelines/locations. I am looking forward to reading more by this author!

Well. This was a middle of the road thriller for me. I’m happy that it definitely wasn’t my least fave by Paris. It was entertaining enough while reading, but I’m not sure it was memorable.

This book is a thriller! When Amelie wakes up not knowing where she is, and who took her, What's strange is that she actually feels safer here than with her husband. She has married into a family that doesn't have any good intentions. I feel like I can't say much without giving away any spoilers!
I knew I would be in for a good read! I love all of B.A. Paris' books, and all of the twists and turns.

I really enjoy this author and her books. Each story is a unique storyline and keeps you turning the pages. "The Prisoner" continues meeting this expectation of Paris' books for me.

Our protagonist wakes up in a dark room with no memory of how she got there. As the days tick by, she's able to learn more about her surroundings through her senses. There is a captor that visits her while she's locked away and she tries to learn more about this stranger - is he friend or foe? Who took her in the first place? Why do the voices sound familiar? Why isn't the love of her life coming to her rescue? How will she escape? Will she escape - will she survive?

While this was not my most favorite of her books, it did make for a quick read and page turner in her normal style. It reminded me a bit of the movie "Saw", but without the gore. The characters worked for the story, but I didn't feel invested in their future. I enjoyed how Amelie was resourceful and strong and this really encouraged the reader to support her in her quest to be free and overcome her kidnappers. The ending was a little predictable but didn't detract from finishing the book and having a great reading experience.

I listened to this one on audio and really enjoyed it. Even though I thought one thing was predictable, I was still very invested and interested to how this suspense would end. Overall a great mystery that had me hooked and I finished quickly.

This psychological thriller follows Amelie, a young woman who is orphaned while living in Paris. She makes her way to London where she searches for her place. Along the way, she meets and weds Ned Hawthorne under unusual circumstances in hopes of building a new life for herself. Things go awry when she and Ned are kidnapped and locked separately in pitch black rooms. However, this seems safer to Amelie than the life she was living with Ned. The story unfolds from there. B.A. Paris weaves an interesting and twisty tale where all is not quite as it seems. The story begins a little slow but soon picks up and holds your attention throughout. The dual timeline keeps the story moving in an interesting and intriguing way. I quite enjoyed and look forward to reading more from B.A. Paris in the future!

I am a huge fan of B.A. Paris. I read Behind Closed Doors the summer it was released and I’ve read every single book of her’s since. She is an auto-buy author for me. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I don’t know that any of her books will ever quite reach the pedestal upon which I’ve placed Behind Closed Doors. That book was haunting and horrifying and sick. But The Prisoner is somewhere in the top half of her novels for me. I found it to be twisty and tricky, if not a little predictable in many ways. There were certainly scenes that were sickening, and many that were sad and shocking.

Amelie is the kind of character you pity, you root for, and you scream at, but ultimately, one that you want things to work out for in the end.

Paris is great at creating characters and situations that get your heart racing and your brain working overtime to try to solve. She’s a little demented, but it makes for great story-telling. Plus her books are all just the right length to power through in one sitting. I’m looking forward to reading whatever her demented little head works up next.

Wow. This one kept me guessing the whole time! I loved that the story continued even after a major plot point. I didn't enjoy the excessive murders, but I thought the idea was unique and the characters were likable.

2023 started off with a bang with the psychological thriller, The Prisoner, from B.A. Paris! Amelie has a tough life. Being the primary caregiver for her sick father, when he passes she finds herself alone and broke, with no plans in sight.

After moving to London, in search of a better life, Amelie spends a few months moving from job to job until luck lands on her side. Finding a job working for a successful divorcee, Amelie finally finds herself comfortable and happy. When her friends introduce her to billionaire Ned Hawthorne, and her life changes in an instant.

Marriage to Ned isn’t what she once thought it would be, and her new relationship shows her exactly what money can buy. Kidnapped with her husband, Amelie must fight to survive. Will she remain a prisoner, or find a safety of her own?

Very well written, this is a fantastic novel by BA Paris! I can't wait to spread the word! :-)

Amelie's desolate life changes for the better when she marries billionaire Jed Hawthorne. She quickly goes from lonely orphan to living the high life she once only dreamed of . . . until she wakes up to find herself held prisoner in a pitch black room. She hasn't a clue as to who's taken her or why. As events unfold, questions are raised and it becomes clear to readers that there's more going on here than meets the eye. Who's holding Amelie captive?

The Prisoner develops slowly, piece by meticulous piece, as the author alternates between past and present to build tension and introduce readers to both present and background information. I enjoyed the utilization of short, almost choppy chapters to build suspense and lead readers toward the climax. Amelia is a well-developed character that deserves empathy, and I wrote off her questionable choices to her youth. However, I found the other characters lacking in needed development as there is little to distinguish them from each other. I would have liked to have felt more of a connection to them. While the author does a great job of laying the groundwork for this mystery early on, there comes a point where the plot becomes a bit too over the top which caused a loss of belief for this reader.

Paris manipulates her characters through a dark, twisty plot in The Prisoner. Her typical twists and turns are evident, serving to drive the pace and set a dire tone. I figured things out fairly early in this one, but read on to see how it would all wrap up. While this isn't my favorite from this author, fans of mystery and suspense thrillers should give it a shot. I look forward to seeing what's coming next from this talented author.

From page one of this book, I was hooked. Amelie is kidnapped with her husband by masked men who keep her in a dark room and never speak to her. In alternating chapters, we learn Amelie and Ned's history which may be a factor in this abduction. With B.A. Paris, it is almost a guarantee that what we think is happening is not even close to the actuality. So many things surprised me in the story. This is one that you need to read to believe!
