I discovered B A Paris years ago and have become a faithful follower. Honestly, I see her as the James Patterson of thrillers, and I mean that in the most complimentary of ways. Her novels incorporate simple language, short chapters, and a fast-paced plot to bring the reader to a satisfying end. The Prisoner is no exception. All is not as it seems, our protagonist, Amelia, has gotten in over her head. Kidnapped and help in a pitch black room, we learn the backstory of how she arrived and begin to form our own theories. The Prisoner will keep you guessing, and hoping, to the final page!
This one was a miss for me. The book started off fast paced and exciting, however, as the story continued I really felt no connection with any of the characters. I did love that the chapters were short. The last several books by B.A. Paris have definitely been hit or miss.
From my blog: Always With a Book
I have been a fan of B.A. Paris since reading her debut novel, Behind Closed Doors, which has remained one of my favorite books. While I’ve liked all her books, some have been better than others and I’m thrilled to say that this new one is right up there with Behind Closed Doors!
This is a hard one to talk about without giving anything away, so I’m going to be quite vague here, but I will say it’s definitely best to go into this one as blind as you can. It’s such a complicated, twisted plot that really kept me fully engaged and hooked right from the start. I had no idea where this one was headed and even when I thought I did, something new would happen to shake things up. It’s a fast-read and with the story told all from one perspective, you do have to wonder whether she is entirely trust-worthy or not. I also loved how the story moved back and forth in time – this not only helped to fill in some backstory, but it added a bit of tension to the story, making you wonder just what was to come.
I flew through this one in a matter of hours. It was so addicting and such a thrilling ride from start to finish. Definitely recommend picking this one up!
Amelie Lamont is an orphan who ends up in London after her father dies. Penniless, she ends up getting a job as a housekeeper to Carolyn, who she becomes close friends with, and Carolyn's friends become hers as well. When Carolyn moves in with her boyfriend and Amelie is in need of a new apartment and job, Carolyn's friends get her a job at Exclusives magazine where they work. Amelie works as an assistant to Ned, the magazine's owner, who comes from a wealthy family. When Ned invites Amelie to Las Vegas on what he says is a business trip, she accepts and he proposes a business arrangement in the form of marriage to get his wealthy father off of his back and in exchange, he will pay Amelie the amount she needs to go to university. Unfortunately, after Amelie accepts, things begin to unravel and she wonders what sort of man she's gotten herself stuck with...
This book was very twisty and well paced. I really enjoyed Behind Closed Doors, so I was excited to read more from B.A. Paris and this delivered for me! The plot is pretty unique and I enjoy a good kidnapping story where the heroine has to fight to stay alive and get justice for herself and others. Ned was TERRIBLE but I do wish his motives were explored a bit more. I also wish we got to see more of the tension between Amelie and Hunter. Ultimately, a pretty good thriller that I wanted to keep reading to see what happened next!
Felt like every chapter was the same. Every chapter she walked through her darkend room. Was good otherwise
The Prisoner follows Amelie, a recently wed 20 year old who has been kidnapped with her new husband and is held captive, unaware of her fate. This book had some twists that I didn't see coming and was overall a fun read.
BA Paris is one of my go to authors so I was excited to read this one. It definitely is not my favorite but it was ok.
In typical BA Paris fashion, this thrilling novel was captivating and consuming. Unfortunately for me, it was not my favorite of BA's books, but not much can top the Behind Closed Doors!! I couldn't have predicted the twist in this one, which is definitely a win for me! I always enjoy books by this author.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! No spoilers. Beyond amazing I enjoyed this book so very much. The characters and storyline were fantastic. The ending I did not see coming Could not put down nor did I want to. Truly Amazing and appreciated the whole story. This is going to be a must read for many many readers. Maybe even a book club pick. Our library purchased and our patrons have been checking out and and enjoying the book. I see it is a popular book club choice as well we hope to have more oppurtinies to support authors like them
I loved her first couple of books, but I could not get engaged in the story line or the characters in this book.
I’ve heard great things about this author, but the first book I read by them, The Therapist, disappointed me a lot. I decided the hype I was hearing had to be for a good reason and I decided I would give them another try. I’m glad I did because I did enjoy this one quite a bit. I thought the book started very fast paced with the kidnapping. I normally really enjoy dual timelines, but there was something about how the past timeline was written that I didn’t ever get into the past as much as I got into the present. I didn’t really care much about any of the characters, but I thought the story was quite interesting and the mystery of the thriller was well done. After this one I will definitely read more books by B.A. Paris - this one overall I gave 3.5 stars, rounded up for being a quick paced read I struggled to put down.
I can't say a lot about this without giving away the plot. I liked the alternating timeline and was scared for Amelie throughout. As the story progresses in the past, I was caught up in wondering who was involved in the present. I had gotten away from this author for awhile, but I am definitely coming back for more!
Thank you for sending this copy! I had really enjoyed behind closed doors and this premise sounded interesting. While I did enjoy some things about the book, short chapters with some tension, dual timelines and creepy storyline, it didn't hold my interest as well as past reads in the genre, but I did still enjoy it! I think I couldn't really connect with the characters enough to care what happened to them and was waiting to root for them. I will continue to read from this author!
This book was so good! It kept my attention the entire time. I did however guess the ending and I was right… so maybe that deterred me from reading it again. All in all the story was good and I would recommend it to others
I really, really wanted to love this one but it was a bit of a miss for me! I have enjoyed almost all of her other books! This is certainly a fast-paced book but I had an idea of where it was going and I was proved right! I wish there had been a bit more twists but overall it was an enjoyable read!
I loved the first half of the book and was intrigued by a fake marriage, a cruel husband and then a kidnapping. But the second half of the book fell flat and felt rushed to me. This is a go to author for me so I will definitely be checking out the author's next book. I have enjoyed her previous one's!!
I honestly think I have read every book from BA Paris and sadly this is my least favorite. The alternating timelines became confusing and I didn’t find even the more shape sul scenes all that suspenseful. I normally really like these types of books but this one just didn’t do it for me.
BA Paris sets a high bar for herself, and sometimes a book comes along that just falls a bit short. The Prisoner was one of those. It lacked the twists, turns, and hook that she usually does such an incredible job creating. Unfortunately, The Prisoner just wasn't very satisfying. I do look forward to reading her next work though.
Another great book by B.A. Paris. A little bit of a slow burn, but it is important to pay attention to the details! Overall I enjoyed this book; I would have enjoyed to get to know some of the main characters friends a little bit better. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for an ARC.
I’ve yet to be disappointed by a BA Paris book, after discovering her on instagram/bookstagram I’ve read every book I can easily get access to which at this point is nearly all of them. They’re easy to follow and get lost in the chaos of the pages
