I was hooked from the very first chapter...for a second there, I was worried the captivity chapters would be repetitive but then something was revealed and I was hooked all over again! Even though a lot of bad things happen...I love how it ends!
Thanks BA Paris, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for this ARC. I truly enjoyed it!
This book was awesome! I love B. A. Paris and this book did not disappoint. It had me hooked from the beginning and I couldn’t stop reading. It was thrilling and kept me on edge the whole time. I was completely in shock when I got to the twist. When I got to the end I was like no! What happens next? I wish there was an epilogue of what happens with Hunter and Amelie. If you are a fan of Behind Closed Doors, I would definitely recommend this book! I think this one just became my favorite by this author.
I love BA a Paris books!!! This thriller kept me guessing from the start. I enjoyed the characters especially Amelia. . I really loved the first 3/4 of the book. The last 1/4 I was somewhat disappointed in the direction and felt like the ending was rushed. and some of it seemed far fetched. I would still recommend this book because I truly love the slow burn to Paris’s writing!!
Thank you to St. Martins Press and NetGalley for giving me a digital copy in exchange for my honest review.
I loved B.A. Paris' "Behind Closed Doors" that I read last year so, when seeing this new title being released, I couldn't wait to read. I was so intrigued by this book and the story line because of both the background given throughout the story along with what the character was currently experiencing. Without giving too many details away or ruining the story for those that are yet to read...my only issue was the ending! I felt like as soon as I got to the last page, Amelie's life was just beginning and I wanted to know where it would lead. I loved Paris' writing as always and I could not put it down!
First of all, let it be known that I am a B.A. Paris fan. But The Prisoner just didn’t really do it for me. The synopsis was promising but the storytelling fell flat. It took me days to read this book. Because there was no “Just one more chapter so I can see what happens” to be had.
I got this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed this book. The premise was interesting and curiosity certainly set in so it was at the top of my tbr list. It kept my attention so well that I read it in 1 sitting. I highly recommend this book as one of her best!
“The Prisoner” is the latest thriller from B. A. Paris. Amelie and her billionaire husband have been kidnapped and while in isolation she reflects on the events in her life that led her there. She knows she isn’t safe with her captors but she learns that her husband has no interest in keeping her safe. Is there a path to her freedom?
I wanted to be fair when rating this novel and there were certainly elements that I liked, but much of the plot was a little too outlandish.Learning about Amelie’s past and her meeting Carolyn was great. The tension while in captivity was very well done. I enjoy the way that Paris writes, but the plot falls apart at the end. I also feel that Jed was not at all a believable character.

Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for this advanced reader’s copy of The Prisoner by BA Paris. I was very excited to get this early copy because I’ve read The Therapist and really enjoyed it. The story revolves around a girl who is kidnapped and held captive in a dark room. It is split in to two sections: will she escape and who is behind this. For a thriller, I thought it lacked some thrill, and the ending was a surprise, but can’t say I loved it. Check it out when it’s released in November, I’d love your opinions!
After listening to The Therapist on audio earlier this year I was eager to read what B.A. Paris had next in store. While The Therpaist wasn’t one of my favourites, I still enjoyed the writing style and wanted to read more of her work. Flash forward to The Prisoner!! This was the fast-paced thriller I neededddd right now 🙌🏼🙌🏼 From the first sentence I was hooked. I’m a broken record for saying this but there’s nothing I love more than short chapters and alternating time lines in a thriller. It kept me engaged the whole time and I’m constantly reading on because I want to know what happens in both time lines. I stayed up way too late reading this because I just could not put it down. I felt that the ending was a little slower than the rest of the book, maybe cause of the drastic changes in emotions that you feel, but I still liked it.
Thank you to NetGallery and St. Martins Press for this eARC!
This book frustrated me. I felt like the setup was strong and I was invested in the characters and then after reading for most of the day and enjoying the book the ending just hit out of nowhere. I felt that the author just got sick of writing it and stopped. I actually looked a couple of times on my kindle to be sure I was not missing pages. I love most of BA Paris' books so I wanted to love it I really did but I needed more.
Rounded up to 3.5 I think… it took me a little bit to get into this book and I wasn’t sure about the main character, but once I really got into it I was totally hooked and read the majority of the book in a few hours. I did think the scenes of the past moved a bit too quickly and established Amelie’s friendships with the other girls almost too easily, but in the present scenes I was really able to feel what she was feeling in captivity. However, the ending fell a bit flat for me once the motivation behind the kidnapping was explained, particularly the last line of the book. Overall BA Paris is always reliable for a quick and exciting read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC
The story starts off in an interrogation type of setting and flashes back and forth between there and Amelie's life as it happens realtime. Through the story, we learn about the many losses she's experienced during her short life and then there's the marriage, that although we all knew we all knew the truth about going in turned out to be more than she bargained for. In the end, Amelie receives a huge payout for her time in the fake marriage, but the price she had to pay was one much higher than the one she agreed upon going in.
I absolutely love B.A. Paris so I was thrilled to have gotten this ARC!
This was fast paced and a quick read because of how good it was. I am a huge fan of the flipping back and forth from past and present. Another fabulous book by a fabulous author.
The Prisoner is a deliciously spellbinding domestic thriller that keeps you guessing throughout the novel. B. A. Paris weaves a tale of suspense, betrayal, and secrets by twisting the plot of this suburban couple caught in the web of kidnappers. Paris writes a page-turning psychological thriller where trust is at a premium. Insightful and effectively written from the eyes of a victim snatched from her bed in the dead of night.

I have mixed feelings about this book. There are some parts that I really enjoyed and others that fell flat to me.
The book starts out strong. A young woman has been kidnapped and the reader has very little information to go on. There's a great deal of mystery and intrigue on who has kidnapped her and why. I liked that the story is told alternating between the present and the past. In the present, Amelie is narrating the terror she feels in her current situation. She is trying to piece together why she has been kidnapped and how she can possibly escape. In between, the reader is getting insight into Amelie's life, her friends, and how she became a victim in this hideous crime. The narratives are interesting and the story moves swiftly.
Then the story switches gears. I don't want to give spoilers so I'll just say that the pacing of the story didn't work for me. Furthermore, too many coincidental things started to occur and I felt that the plot grew a bit outlandish.
One of my biggest struggles with this book was I felt as if the characters weren't developed enough. At the beginning of the book, Amelie happens to meet and become friends with Caroline and Caroline's friends. For Amelie, Caroline becomes her best friend in the world. To have the kind of relationship that is insinuated between the two, I felt the author needed to give the reader a much longer time frame to work with. I felt the same way with some of the other attachments Amelie developed with other characters as well.
I also struggled a bit with time in this book. I questioned how long certain things took to develop.
Overall, I thought this book was okay and would encourage others to read it. While it wasn't my favorite book by Paris (that was The Breakdown!), I still enjoyed it.
Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and B.A. Paris for an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book to read and review
A prisoner…but where?
Is Amelie a prisoner in her own home, in the basement where she is held captive, in her mind, or all three places?
We meet Amelie when she arrives in London with no job and no money.
Then fortunately she meets Carolyn who hires her as a housekeeper and gets her a job with a foundation and meets Ned.
Was it really fortunate that she met Ned who is a manipulator?
THE PRISONER GOES back and forth from Amelie’s past and her life present day.
She definitely gets her self in and hopefully out of situations.
To find out what situations she is in, you will want to read THE PRISONER.
It is a little slow at first, but you will need to continue reading because you HAVE to find out what really is going on and what happens.
When the tension increases and secrets and situations are revealed, you will not want to put the book down.
THE PRISONER wraps up with a satisfying conclusion.
Another good one for thriller fans and fans of Ms. Paris. 4/5
This book was given to me by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review.
I always am intrigued by a closed door, captivity thriller. I really was captivated from page 1 and needed to know what happened.
My theories flip flopped the entire time but, I was not 100% correct in the end. I do think it was a slow burn and then boom…. Here is all the answers. However, I still really loved it and B.A. Paris is officially an auto buy author for me!
Thank you NetGalley and the publishing team for this free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Overall I'd give this book a 3.5 star rating. I liked the tension in the beginning of the book, and I liked the way the story was laid out. I felt in the last part of the book everything fell flat because the tension was lost. As a reader I found I almost lost the connection with the character. When she discovered the origin of the kidnapping, that's when it picked back up for me.
Overall plot was great, I liked that it was set up for a sequel, and I hope there is one because there are still a lot of questions that need to be answered.
I look forward to reading one of B.A. Paris' other books.
I hope you enjoyed this review. Happy Reading and Blessed Be.

Thank you to the publisher for my copy - all opinions are my own.
I completely and totally enjoyed this book. It was totally the type of perfectly crafted escapism reading that I just love to dive into on a weekend where I have hours to do nothing and read.
Everything about this book was great, from the pacing, the movement of the story from past to present, the unforgiving and unrelenting plot twists and the fact that the main character was unashamedly and brutally honest about the mistakes she made in her own life to land her where she did.
While this isn't a groundbreaking new thriller, it is a totally entertaining one, and fantastic for a relaxing day curled up with a drink, a blanket and no where to be.
B.A. Paris is one of those authors that’s always either hit or miss for me. This one unfortunately was a miss. It started off great and had me hooked but I lost interest about half way through. The short quick chapters kept me reading though and although I was frustrated by the end, it’s still a decent thriller.
