Thank you Net galley for the opportunity to get an advanced copy of this book.
I love BA Paris and her style of writing however I wanted a bit more from this book. This book was just a little too predictable for me however I did love how the book ended overall. Definitely four out of five stars.

I love dual timelines in a book’ this book was easy to get hooked too and intrigued me from the start. The last half of the book was a little slow for me, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting but it was just kind of blah slow and the ending was VERY quick. I was still trying to figure something’s out from the book and then it just ended. Overall I enjoyed the book, it was an easy read and I would recommend to others!

Another great book from BA Paris. While nothing will ever compare to Behind Closed Doors, I’d put this in my top 3 of her books.

This book gets you right from the beginning! While it seems to drag on towards the middle, it picks back up. I will say that I saw this ending coming as soon as the “main event” took place. I wasn’t sad about it, but bummed that it was so predictable.

Overall a quick, easy read that I wouldn’t tell anyone to NOT read.

Hooked me immediately! Started with lots of action and plenty of questions. Why was Amelie kidnapped? Why was her husband kidnapped? Does this connect to her past? The book is told through the time of Amelie’s imprisonment, her past and a future timeframe. I was very intrigued by the beginning and how Amelie came to be in her situation. This slowed down quite a bit and got somewhat repetitive during her imprisonment. Lots of descriptions of pacing the room.. Eventually the plot and pacing pick back up and the suspense increases.
Some of the rationale behind the kidnapping and how the kidnapping happened was far-fetched, but that is typical of thrillers. Easy read that I enjoyed.

I was beyond excited when I recieved the written and audio for B.A. Paris' new book from Netgalley and McMillan Audio.

The begining of the book through about 40% was very intriguing. I was wondering where Amelie's story and kidnapping was going. I kept flipping back and forth on if Ned was a part if it or not even though he was kidnapped too. As other characters, Carolyn and Carl and Hunter to name a few, emerged more ideas came into my head.

The ending was not what I had expected for the begining. Though there were a few loose ends and the ending lack shock value or excitement, it was still a solid book.

I really liked the narrator on the audio version.

I Buddy Read The Prisoner with my great friend Tiffany. I love chatting about books while I read.

This one started out so strong! A kidnapping with timeline jumps and short chapters…I was blazing through. Then I hit the brick wall that was Part 2. I just felt that the questions were answered in such an odd way. Like a giant wrap up conversation then the book was done.

Overall I enjoyed this book and was planning on giving it 5 stars, but ultimately settled on 3.5 (rounded up to 4 for Goodreads). It seemed like the first half was so fast that the second half was just explaining everything that happened through conversation. I also did figure out some of the bigger plot points as well.

I still read it in 2 days so that says something…just felt a little lacking in the ending. Not my favorite B.A. Paris but I will still pick up her books every time.

Title: The Prisoner
Author: B.A. Paris
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Genre: Mystery Thriller
Pub Date: November 1, 2022
My Rating: 3.5 rounded up!

This is my 6th B.A Paris novel.
"Behind Closed Doors" is on the top of my “like” list. However, "The Breakdown", and "Bring Me Home" were also good and earned 4 stars from stingy star me!!!
I wasn’t thrilled with “The Therapist”~ perhaps after totally enjoying the others, my expectation was rather high.
I was looking forward to this story but tried to keep my expectation under control.

Story is divided into Parts One and Two both with Amelie’s Past/Present POV.

Part One ~ The Kidnap
Present: Amelie Lamont wakes up in a dark room and discovered she has been kidnapped and is being held ‘prisoner’ and but has no idea why or by whom. Her captor never speaks to her.

Past: Amelie is down and out and is friended by Carolyn Blakely who helps her with employment as well as living arrangements. Then there is Amelie’s involvement with billionaire Ned Hawthorpe who cons her into marrying him

Part Two ~ The Reckoning
We continue with Amelie’s saga.
Story kept me guessing, not a bi g WOW but I am certainly looking forward to the next B. A. Paris novel!
⭐⭐⭐⭐

Well this was a very interesting book and it definitely kept me guessing to figure out what was going on and who was involved. It starts right as they are getting kidnapped and it goes back and forth from her in captivity to how she ended up in that situation. The ending for me was not satisfactory but I did enjoy the unraveling of everything and figuring out who her captors were and why they were kidnapped. As you read the book you realize all the red flags Amelia missed with Ned and the situation she ended up in and how naïve she was at the beginning and how in just a couple weeks that is stamped out of her. All in all a pretty good story and I enjoy how the author writes so I will be reading whatever she has coming next.

Thanks to St. Martins Press and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.

Going to preface this review with a note that I absolutely LOVE B.A. Paris's style of writing and have devoured every single book she's written and when I was approved for this copy I was beyond excited. Unfortunately for me this book just fell flat and was not one of my favorites. I really enjoyed Amelie's character but wish we had more insight to her background and I absolutely loved the group of friends she made that became her family. We didn't really get to know Ned as a person but clearly that was an intentional decision. The back and forth between past and present was clearly defined but towards the end of the book it got a bit muddled. There were also maybe one or two too many characters for my liking. Overall while I enjoyed this book I would highly recommend either 'Behind Closed Doors' and 'The Breakdown' both by B.A. Paris.

Synopsis per Amazon
Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle when she marries the handsome billionaire Ned Hawthorne.

But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?

**Please note the Amazon synopsis has husbands name as Jed but in my copy his name is Ned**

I cannot get enough of BA Paris’ novels. They suck my in from page one and my plans, chores, etc disappear until I am done with the book, and The Prisoner was no exception!

The story is based around Amelie a young woman residing in France who recently lost her father. She decides to move to England to start over. In England, things are very tough in the beginning until she meets a woman who shows her some kindness. But that is short lived and Amelie’s luck starts to change again….

This novel is a fast read and I love her the author always takes time to tie up loose ends!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the digital advanced readers copy!!

Mixed feelings on this one. It was not my favorite book by this author, but I liked it well enough and read it in 2 days.

The pacing was fast with short chapters going back and forth between two timelines, an interesting back story for the main heroine, and a satisfying ending where most of the mystery is answered.

Some negatives were that the book felt like three separate plots in one, and I have never disliked a main lead character(Ned) more. He was evil.

Overall a good read, and I will continue to read all of B.A. Paris's books.

Definitely not my favorite by B.A Paris. Part one of this book was amazing. I was hooked from page one. Unfortunately, part two was boring and lackluster.

B.A. Paris has written many great thrillers. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed her thrillers. She is great at writing fast paced, gripping thrillers. The Prisoner tells the terrifying, yet captivating story of Amelie and her rich husband Jed who have built themselves a life of wealth, social status, and glamour. Amelie has lived through tragedy in the past and when she suddenly finds herself a literal prisoner in a dark, damp room, she questions everything. Who really is Jed? Who is holding her captive? Is she actually safer here then with her husband?

The Prisoner takes you through both the past and the present, giving the reader an alternate look at Amelie’s life. You’ll learn more about her tragic past and her redemptive second chance at happiness through her marriage to Jed. Readers will also read and feel her fear and pain as a current prisoner. The longer Amelie sits in her dark dungeon, the more she starts to ponder her life. And suddenly, is it possible for her to feel… safer here than with Jed?

B.A. produces another fast and intriguing read. This book’s plot is a little less intriguing then her other books. This was one harder to get hooked on. The storyline was weaker than some of her past books but still, it was a decent thriller with lots of plot twists.

The Prisoner will be out and available November 1, 2022.

It's been a while since I've read a novel by B.A. Paris, for no reason other than there's so many books and so little time. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to read and advanced copy of her latest novel and plan on returning to the two other titles in her catalogue that I've yet to read. This novel is a pretty solid thriller/psychological thriller. It starts off with a bang and just keeps going. Two different timelines, "Past" and "Present" race toward each other. There are so many twists and turns all the way through. See the synopsis from Amazon:

Amelie has always been a survivor, from losing her parents as a child in Paris to making it on her own in London. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle where she married the handsome billionaire Ned Hawthorne.

But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband Ned?

In the vein of Behind Closed Doors and The Therapist, multimillion-copy bestseller B. A. Paris is back with a gripping new suspense novel.

I thought it was great. The first half of the novel was full of what is going on moments. I couldn't read it fast enough. Many thanks to the publisher for providing the advanced reader copy through NetGalley for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press. The novel will be published November 1, 2022. Get your hands on it!

I am a huge BA Paris fan so I was very excited to be approved for this ARC. It was a great book, but a little bit slower paced than her other books.

Well this was an interesting read. It was a different read, one that I quite liked. You will get sucked into the book right away. Amelie is a strong woman who only wants to better herself and help others. She overcomes a lot, with more to come. Amelie is always looking for answers and she will stop at nothing to get it. This book is twisted and keeps you guessing. I really enjoyed this book and one I couldn't put down until the end. I am leaving this review voluntarily after being sent a free book.

Great book!! Hooked from the first chapter. Enjoyed the past vs present perspectives to provide background in the characters. There were so many shocking moments and twists. Only wish there was more. The ending was too quick and felt unfinished.

I loved the main character. I loved how the author made the main character the narrator and how it flipped back and fourth between past and present. Everything kinda came together. I loved the premise to this story. I was hesitant as the ratings weren't super high but ended up really loving this book. Thank you to the author for the ARc of this book. I will definitely reccomend it.

I'm a big B.A. Paris fan, and the last book of hers I read, The Dilemma, was a big let down for me. I had high hopes for this book, but I found it didn't really deliver. The premise was interesting and I was hooked immediately, but the payoff just didn't do it for me. More than the ~why~ is the how we learned. The resolution was less effective because of how everything came to light, and I felt the story could've benefited from being told a different way in the later chapters. However, none of that can take away from B.A. Paris' ability to write compelling characters and interesting premises that pull you right in, and I'll keep reading her work.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my advanced reader's copy.
