A set around a cat cafe (and with a future veterinarian practice intact) that is about to crumble, A Cat Cafe Christmas is a sweet romance purrfect for the holiday season.
The two lovebirds, Ben Reese and Kara Ingalls, have a run in outside Meow and Furrever Cat Cafe before the holiday season starts. Their meeting is less than ideal as Ben's marketing campaign to revitalize the area the cafe is in falls on Kara's deaf ears. She is less than enthused by the huge crowd outside the cafe, full of patrons who won't help to profit their business that badly needs business. Their enemies-to-friends-to-lovers relationship changes when Ben finds a kitten in his home during a remodel that he needs help to re-home immediately. He goes running to Kara for help because he can't think of anyone else. As they get to know each other, they learn that their opposites may make each other better and help to meld the pieces of their broken past.
Although Cat Cafe Christmas mentions Christmas in the title, very little of the actual story takes place around Christmas which I found fine. I know some readers will be put off by that so I wanted to give a fair warning. I enjoyed that each chapter started with a brief description of a cat "available" at the cat cafe. It added another layer to the story. I found the romance a quick read and enjoyable. Like many Christmas reads it's a lower steam level and closed door, which I was expecting. I'll be honest and say I don't know if it's one that will stick with me for years to come.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4!
This was such a sweet, heartwarming read! I think it's perfect for the Holiday season or whenever you need a good pick-me-up. This has everything you want in a Christmas story; the Holiday feels, layered characters, a sentimental storyline, and some great bits of humor along the way. I also think it was effortless to get into and devour in one sitting. The writing and narration are easy to follow and flow naturally. While I wasn't overly wowed, I still think this was an enjoyable read, and it matches the genre/theme that it's in perfectly. I will say that I think the romance could've been heightened a tiny bit more. I would've liked to see more chemistry and tension between them, BUT I still found Kara and Ben's relationship adorable.
Overall, a sweet Holiday read! I would recommend it, especially if you love your Holiday romcoms!
Thank you to Netgalley and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the chance to read this in exchange for an honest review!
I usually don’t read seasonal reads outside of the winter months, but I had to make an exception for this incredibly cute book—and I’m glad I did!
This is THE book for cat lovers, for the holidays and beyond. Each chapter starts off with a cartoon and description of a cat for adoption at the cat café, which has got to be the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.
Most of the book revolves around cats and our interactions with them, from introducing kittens and cats to new environments, to finally meeting the purrfect match. But that’s not saying the romance takes a backseat, not at all. Kara and Ben have both gone through their own traumas, and at each step I was rooting for them to find ways to heal and be together.
Cody Gary is excellent at making the reader feel emotionally invested in the story, as I found myself getting madder and madder the more I heard about their stories and craved some restitution. That being said, I found the ending a bit meh, but overall I didn’t think it took away from my enjoyment of the story.
Overall, if you’re looking for a cozy, holiday read with characters you want to root for, and the tiniest dash of spice, add this to your Christmas wishlist asap!
Thanks so much to Netgalley and Forever, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing, for providing me with an ARC of this adorable Christmas story.
This was a cute story that will be an enjoyable and fun read if you’re looking for a fast book to read during the holiday season.
What I Liked: When you title your book “A Cat Café Christmas,” there are certain expectations that come with that. Meaning…that book better be cute, and it better have a lot of cats in it. I’m happy to report that this book lived up to those expectations. This was a sweet yet surprisingly emotional book about 2 people dealing with their own personal issues and recognizing that they need to work on themselves before being ready to start a new relationship. I loved that this wasn’t a “I was a mess until this person came into my life and changed it” story but rather a story that takes the time to show the reader the work Kara and Ben are doing on themselves so that when they eventually admit their attraction to each other, it feels like they’ve done the work to get to that point. I’m making it sound like this book is heavy but there are plenty of cat-related hijinks to keep the story light and entertaining. Christmas plays an integral part of the story and fits into the story nicely, especially with Ben’s storyline.
What I Didn’t Like: This book has a lot of scenes featuring Kara and Ben’s best friends, but I never felt like I got to know Charity and Schwartz that well which was disappointing. I would read a future book with them as the main characters, but I wish we had found out more about them in this book. There were also some questionable phrases used throughout the book including “big-boned.” I thought that in 2022 we were done using terms like that to describe fat people. I also didn’t appreciate AT ALL that Kara thinks listening to audiobooks isn’t reading and that she looks down on Ben for thinking that.
Who Should Read It: If you are looking for a light, cat-centric holiday romance, I think you’ll like this book.
Review Wrap Up: This wasn’t a perfect romance and some of the characters said things and acter in ways that I didn’t like but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, and I would recommend it to someone looking for a holiday romance. Bonus points for the adorable cat drawings that were at the top of each chapter, along with a description of the cat.
Rating: 3 Stars
I loved this book so much I devoured it in less than 24 hours! A sweet love story filled with personality and humor.
This was a super cute holiday read! If you love cats, or animals, this is the perfect book. It reads like a Hallmark movie and is perfect for the holiday season or whenever you need a little holiday magic!
If you love cats and romance then this book is up your alley.
Kara Ingalls has come to California for a fresh start. Along with her friend Charity, she opens The Meow and Furever Cat Cafe.
Enter Ben Reese. As a dog lover, he doesn't seem qualified to help, but as a marketing professional, he's just what Kara can't afford to ignore.
Now Ben has implemented a plan to find homes for all the felines in twenty-five days, and he's even doing his part by fostering a tiny kitten with a huge personality.
When Ben and Kara first meet there is tension. Both have a lot of baggage from a previous relationship.
I liked all the characters in this book. My heart went out to Kara for what her ex had done to her and her life.
Ben's brother I could not forgive no matter how much I wanted to. For Ben's mom to play a guilt cards throughout this book and not really see Ben's side just irritated me.
I wanted to adopt all the cats mentioned in this book and I would stop in a cafe like this just have a cup of tea , a book and a room to play with cats/kittens sounds like heaven.
Ben was not a cat person and he ended up finding a kitten in his house that he was renovating. He was hoping Kara would take the kitten and find a home for him.
Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for this cute book to review,
This book is adorable. I’m a sucker for cats and this made me want to adopt another one! The spice level on this one is very low, but it’s plenty sweet. I appreciated that both characters were able to grow and start solving their problems own personal issues… but it took a while. This is a holiday treat for the cat lover!
This book was super cute! As a cat lover, I loved the story and all the cats. The cat names/profiles made me laugh at the beginning of each chapter. I felt like Ben and Kara were both complex characters and showed some growth as the book went on. I also love how the book showed the importance of adopting a cat and giving it a furever home if possible. It just gave me some good feels.
**Thank you to Forever and Netgallery for giving me the opportunity to read this book. All opinions are my own.**
I listened to this through audiobook, due to me not being able to read books physically for some time. It's been difficult. But, the narrator at first rubbed me the wrong way with the MC's voices, but I got adjusted.
Overall, this story was good. There were some mishaps that I wasn't really enjoying, and it has fallen flat for me. But, the overarch of the story was good, and that was a good thing.
It was a fun Christmas story.
Arc from netgalley.
I tried to get into this book about 5 times and just got bored and put it back down. I couldn’t connect to the female main character.
We need more romances with cats in them. However, Ben ruined this one for me with his misogynistic tendencies, this isn't a dark romance he's actually supposed to be a good person. I loved the cat descriptions at the beginning of each chapter and though the cat café plot was cute, if super underdeveloped.
This book definitely had a holiday feel to it and I recommend it if you're wanting something that feels like reading a Hallmark movie.
Thank you to NetGalley, Forever (Grand Central Publishing), and Codi Gary for an eARC of this book!
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read an ARC of "A Cat Cafe Christmas", written by Codi Gary. This novel was released on October 4th, 2022!
Overall, I rated this novel 4/5 stars!
Let's be real here for a second. Who WOULDN'T want to read a Christmas-themed novel about a veterinarian and a marketing expert who is trying to save the fate of a cafe'? You won't want to miss this "purr-fect" holiday novel!
I was especially pleased that it wasn't overly spicy and I loved the drama that surrounded the two main characters - Kara's ex embezzled her company's funds and Ben's ex is now dating his brother.
A great, fun read.
Kara and Ben don't get off to the best of starts and to make things worse he is not a cat person! Can she change his mind?
I liked how it is told from both points of view. Would love to see their friends story next.
If you're looking for a quick, cute read, then A Cat Cafe Christmas is for you. I enjoyed the quirky characters and, of course, the adorable cats! Combine Christmas, cats, and a cute rom-com, and you have a success for a Christmas novel. I'll be looking for more from this author.
I have been so busy with schools for reviews but YES YES YES THIS BOOK WAS EVERYTHING !!!
Perfect holiday read that I will probably read again when December comes around. Add this to your holiday reading tbr
Thank you @netgalley and @readforeverpub for approving me for this ARC!! Released October 4th 2022!
I know Halloween is around the corner but hear meowt… I love cats and I love Christmas so… I had to!
Kara and Ben have only two things in common. They have sworn off relationships and they are definitely attracted to each other. When dislike turns into banter, these two team up to save Kara’s co owned cat cafe…
I did not expect my first Christmas read of the year to be a grumpy x grumpy romance! Or should I say grinch x grinch? But alas, this book was really cute.
It’s a very quick read. I loved that every chapter starts with a doodle of a cat and the description of them. It was an adorable touch. NO SMUT! So if you’re looking for something explicit, this is not it!
The story was a lot more complex that I expected, Kara and Ben’s reasons to be against dating are actually pretty solid and I would have done the same if I found myself in their shoes tbh.
The best friend/side characters were very lovable too. I hope there is another book coming out about Charity and Schwartz, I love me a sunshine x sunshine in denial!
Why not five stars? Sometimes the main characters were a bit too judgmental. I think it was done on purpose to show how hurt they were but it was too much at times. Ben finds a kitten and takes it to the café because he does not want a pet. Kara is literally so rude to him and makes him feel TERRIBLE for not wanting a pet. Ben also has his moments. He comes through a bit against women at the beginning. I understand he is butt hurt because of his ex, but the rest of the female population is not at fault! Apart from that, this book was a very cute and clean holiday read.
Cats, Christmas, and Romance - what's not to love?
Kara is a veterinarian that owns Meow and Furrever Cat Café with her best friend. Ben is a graphic designer that works in marketing and he's not an animal person.
Their worlds collide when Ben is part of a marketing campaign to spotlight local businesses. Kara has no idea until she comes into work and there is a line wrapped around the building. Ben does not understand why Kara isn't thrilled about extra business.
As the story unfolds, Ben ends up fostering a cat. We also learn that Kara is trying to live a life where she can go unnoticed. As Ben tries to help Meow and Furrever raise money for a vet clinic in the back, Kara tells him about her former relationship where she was accused of a crime along with her weasel of an ex. Although she was cleared, she worries that any attention will blow back on the Cat Café.
This is a cute feel-good story that I would recommend to any animal lover!
Thank you to Forever Publishers and NetGalley for providing an advanced copy of Codi Gary's latest book in exchange for my honest review.
This story was ADORABLE and just what I needed at the time. I loved the couple, loved the romance, and especially loved the kitty matchmaking. The best part was the kitty bios at the start of each chapter! I really enjoyed reading about how Kara matched each person/family to each cat.
Audio Review: Unfortunately, the narrator's fake Boston accent for the male lead really didn't do it for me. I found it incredible grating for the first few chapters. I must have gotten used to it because it didn't bug me as much later in the book, but that's what jumps out at me about the audio. I did think she was a good fit for the FMC, however.
A funny aside...the chapters all started with cute little bios for the cats up for adoption. I know this one cat was called Pawsomesauce, but on audio that sounds exactly the same as Possum Sauce. I chuckled for a solid five minutes about Possum Sauce, as well as commenting on it to multiple friends.
