Thank you to netgalley and to Codi Gary for the opportunity to read this! The book had a cute concept and an interesting cast of characters! I loved the idea of a cat cafe and I liked how everything was executed. It was an easy read and had some cute and funny moments! Kara was an enjoyable character and it was interesting to see how things between her and Ben developed. Overall it was a 4 star book for me, and a book that’s great for anyone looking for a cute holiday romance!
Veterinarian Kara runs a cat café with her best friend and is just trying to keep her life simple and the cafe’s doors open after her relationship ended traumatically. Ben is a marketing exec from Boston who moved to California to escape after the end of his engagement. When non-cat person Ben’s firm does a promotion for the cat café, he becomes intrigued by café’s owner (despite them getting off on the wrong foot) and begins to help her with a plan to save the Café. Are Ben and Kara able to help each other heal while raising money for the café?
This story was absolutely adorable! The MCs were completely relatable and the amount of representation was unreal! Plus size representation, anxiety rep, adult ADHD rep, depression rep-Ben and Kara are real people with REAL problems! They were both healing from previous relationships and it was absolutely precious to watch them fight their mutual attraction, help each other heal, and eventually give into their feelings.
I am admittedly NOT a cat person, but you can tell this was written by one, and I ADORED the individual descriptions and personalities of each cat-it gave the story that much more and really enhanced it in my opinion. I felt like I was there!
This story served Hallmark (and honestly a little Law & Order) vibes and is a story of love, healing, growth and CATS! A perfect Christmas read (which I read in July) 😂.
I was given an ARC by NetGalley Forever (Grand Central Publishing). All opinions are my own.
🎄 Are you a fan of cats, Christmas, and Hallmark movies? If so, this book is for you! 🐱 "A Cat Cafe Christmas" by Codi Gary is a sweet enemies-to-lovers read that will put you in the holiday spirit. 3⭐
❄️ Kara & Ben have both been hurt in love and are navigating betrayal in their own way. Kara struggles with social anxiety and trust issues and Ben is starting to regret his recent move to Sacramento. Ben works in marketing and is trying to help Kara's cat cafe stay afloat. They create the idea of a "healbound" - a low-pressure rebound relationship to help them get over their exes. Things get messy when they start to develop deeper feelings.
✨ I like how Kara and Ben really see each other's flaws and are still willing to work through them together. There is good representation of neurodivergence (specifically anxiety & ADHD). I think there are a lot of "one step forward, two steps back" in this story, but that's real life - love isn't linear!
💕 This is a fairly prim book, which might make it more enjoyable for some audiences. There is no swearing (the worst word used is "crud") and the love scene is...underwhelming. Kara's character is a generally a bit bland. Overall, I think this would be a fun romance for a conservative reader.
Thank you for the eARC, @readforeverpub and @netgalley! Releases 10/4/22.
Shareability: must love cats, Friendsgiving, & Christmas ⛄
Spice: closed door, mild 🌶️🌶️
Pairs well with: lattes and pastries from the cafe! 🥧
This was an absolutely delightful read and I just loved all the cat names and descriptions at the start of every chapter! I always had a cat growing up and I could relate to some of the cat characters in the story! lol I wish we had a Meow and Furrever Cat Café in my area, I would be spending my days there for sure:)
Ben and Kara are so good together but of course the path to true love is never an easy one, especially if you are complete opposites! Between the characters and the cats, this was definitely a winner for me:)
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This book was perfection.
Cozy? Check.
Romance? Check.
Humor? Double check.
Cats? Christmas? Relatable characters? CHECK!
I was not prepared to like a book this much, especially one that was supposed to be a Hallmark Christmas movie behind the cover. But here I sit, ready to reread this the first moment temps drop to revamp the holiday spirit and remind myself that the world isn't half bad, especially with cats, cuties, and cocoa.
LOVED. Such a cozy comfy Christmas read. Quick paced book with no dragging scenes and just loved this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book has officially made it to the top of my comfort reads list. I enjoyed it not only because I’m a cat person but because of the persistence and strength shown by the characters. The overall message of facing your fears and taking a risk no matter how scared your are resonated strongly with me. Anxiety and the affects of social media are also very much a fundamental part of the story, and I appreciate that so much as highly sensitive person. This story makes me wish there was a cat cafe I could go to nearby. I can just visualize the cat cafe and all the cats and their personalities. What a much needed treat and bright spot to my summer!
A Cat Cafe Christmas is a super cute and sweet enemies to lovers romance between Kara and Ben. Kara is a veterinarian who co owns a bakery/cat rescue. Ben works in marketing. Both have been in relationships where they have been left hurting. I loved the relationship between Kara and Ben, and also the relationships they each had with their best friends. Schwartz and Charity added so much to the story as did the CATS 🥰. Each chapter began with a little “bio” about one of the rescue cats with the most clever names! My personal fave was “Katie Purry”! I really enjoyed this one!
Thank you to Codi Gary, Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and Net Galley for an eARC of A Cat Café Christmas. This book comes out October 4, 2022!!
A Cat Café Christmas stars Kara, a veterinarian who runs Meow and Furrever Cat Café, a café mixed with a cat shelter. After being burned in her last relationship she has become not only hesitant to get on social media but is also hesitant to enter another relationship. Enter marketing specialist Ben who was hired by the community to create features on local businesses, and guess who got the first feature!! Our two main characters meet on the morning that the Meow and Furrever gets its feature, and while Kara cant be upset about the influx of customers she is nervous about the potential spotlight this can put on her and her past. So lets just say she wasn't the most receptive to Ben and his "favor." This sparks the start of a friendship that is progressed with the help of clogged pipes, demon kittens, and the shared effort of trying to save the café. Will Kara and Ben be able to overcome their pasts and have a future together.
I LOVED this book!! It was fast paced, sweet, and funny. Both characters had such amazing character development, I really felt like they healed and grew together. Also as a cat person myself it was fun to read about the different cats and honestly I was rooting for each of them to be adopted in the end (yes I know they weren't real cats). If you are looking for a sun and sweet holiday read please pick up A Cat Café Christmas!
A Cat Cafe Christmas is perfect for people who love cats, Christmas, and romance!
This book is fun, engaging, and a great read! The book follows the c0-owner of Meow and Furrever Cat Café (Kara) who is trying to get the café back out of the red and help cats get adopted, and a marketing guru (Ben) who offers to help with a plan that will get the café in the green before the new year.
The development the main characters had in this story was great, and I loved the incorporation of the cats that are available for adoption at the beginning of each chapter .
I am so glad I read this book, and recommend / think this book is perfect for anyone that wants a fun holiday read. It is also perfect for cat lovers!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The book comes out on October 4, 2022 and I will be ordering a physical copy to read it again!
I received an ARC of, A Cat Cafe Christmas by, Codi Gary. This is a great book for a cat lover. I liked seeing the different cats, on the chapter header. Can Kara and Ben save the cafe?
they had me at Cat Cafe. My dream to go to a Cat Cafe and this took me right there. I loved everything about this book and more.
I adored this book! It has my current favorite trope (enemies to lovers) and cats in it - what could be better? The dialogue was snappy and the book kept me interested so that I read it all in one day.
THIS IS EVERYTHING IVE EVER WANTED IN A CHRISTMAS ROM COM. MY SOUL IS HAPPY.
GIVE ME THE MOVIE ADAPTATION IMMEDIATELY! I can promise this would be on replay constantly giving me all of the ✨good chemicals✨
A cat cafe called Meow and Furever is run by Kara and Charity and recently a marketing firm that Ben works for has been hired to do publicity for when he runs into Kara and they begin to hit it off but due to her anxiety related to some past trauma with the media when she finds out Ben is responsible for the large crowd she turns sour on him.
Ben then finds a little orange kitten in his home and knowing nothing about cats and nothing else being open he returns to Meow and Furever but due to space issues he ends up fostering the little guy for a while.
This is such a great story of love, new beginnings, friendship, kindness, compassion, forgiveness and the love of our feline friends.
Much like Kara I also have ADHD, anxiety and a deep love for animals, especially cats and like been I’m a converted cat lover, much like Ben and Chaos my two girls now have me wrapped around their paws.
I gave some side eye to Kara calling audiobooks not reading in a conversation with Ben (who prefers them). I firmly believe calling audiobooks not reading is ableist, I often use audiobooks or the speech to text accessibility feature due to my ADHD and it is still reading (and Kara also has ADHD, so though this way of consuming books may not work for her it is still valid and I would expect her to be more understanding). In the conversation she did explain why she doesn’t like them and that reason was absolutely reasonable but I wish she would’ve stated that it is reading. I do love Ben for standing firmly with audiobooks and confirming they are reading. This whole debate is something I feel very, very strongly about.
Something I really loved was at the beginning of each chapter there was a sketch of a cat from the café and a brief description of them and it was so lovely when later they would pop up in the story! Such an excellent and clever idea!
5 stars.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I want every holiday romance to give me the happy feelings this one did!
Cute story with cats and romance. However, I did love all the cats in the story slightly more than all the characters. I just wasn’t in love with them.
❤️Tropes: Opposites Attract, Enemies to Lovers
⚠️CW: Parent abandonment & sibling betrayal
💥Closed Door Romance (just sparks & kisses, no steam)
Wow! I expected this to be a cheesy Christmas rom-com, but it was so much better. It was funny, adorable and gave me all the happy feels! The pacing of the book was perfect. Although the story takes place over a fairly short period of time, Ben and Kara had enough moments of genuine connections and shared vulnerability that this was one of the few stories where the love actually felt believable to me. Kara's relationship with her best friend was top notch and hade me chuckling. And the CATS! If you love cats and rom-coms, YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE! Each chapter starts out with a tiny snippet describing one of the adoptable cats in the cafe, helping you differentiate and keep track of each cat throughout the book. There were a few moments where the transition of events/dialogue seemed off, like when Ben and Kara had a hot moment with tensions up, then he stopped to finish caulking the sink, then went back and made a move on Kara. I thought it was weird, but maybe that's just part of their endearing awkwardness? Regardless, there were only a few scenes I questioned like this but it didn't take away from the story at all. I've already pre-ordered my physical copy as this is officially my favorite Christmas book that I will absolutely be re-reading this holiday season.
I am posting this review on Goodreads and Bookbub accounts immediately, and will post on Amazon, Instagram and B&N on release day 10/4/22.
Sweet romcom about Kara and Ben. Kara is a vet who owns a cat cafe and rescue organization. Ben works for a marketing firm who is helping local businesses gain attention. Both have been burned by other relationships in the past and have to work through their own issues before they can connect with each other.
Nice cast of secondary characters, including Charity and Schwartz, as well as all the customers who come into the cafe.
A Cat Cafe Christmas by Codi Gary is a great contemporary romance that is fun, entertaining, fuzzy, and full of felines and Christmas cheer.
This book has everything present that I look for in a contemporary romance: it is funny, engaging, festive, has a character cast with good intentions, romantic, and has adorable cats and kittens. What more could a reader ask for?
I am glad I decided to read this book and recommend it to anyone that wants to sit back, relax, and enjoy themselves.
4/5 stars
