I just finished book one, Edge of Night, in this series a week ago and was totally pulled in to Annie's story of her missing sister and the man she loved years ago. I was excited to read Dark of Night so soon after the first one while it was still fresh in my mind. It takes place in Upper Michigan and picks right up where Edge of Night left off. Now I'm chomping at the bit to read Break of Day which is due out July 2023! If you like a good clean mystery with a little side of romance, I highly recommend Colleen Coble's suspenseful books. You won't be disappointed!

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to the author, Thomas Nelson and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second in a series, and the first book I have read by this author. I found it very difficult to get into the story, as way too much foreknowledge from the first book was needed to work out the intricate family relationships, and previous events were frequently referred to without any further background info. I initially requested this ARC because I love stories with with a strong female lead, and the setting in Michigan was another point in its favor. The author skillfully weaves in the setting in the Upper Peninsula, the natural beauty and at the same time the ruggedness - and danger - of the geography. However, I found the characters very one-dimensional, the dialogue clunky and the Christian element too in-my-face. I realize I'm an outlier, and this has its fans - but I am not among them.

Dark of Night will keep you on the edge of your seat! The faith-filled suspense, perfectly imperfect characters, and beautiful Upper Peninsula setting all combine wonderfully in this latest Annie Peterson novel.

A minor issue I had was the myriad of names used to describe mountain lions. I realize there are many names for this cat and they're all acceptable, depending on the region you're in, but inconsistency is a pet peeve of mine. I feel like it would've been less distracting from the actual storyline to simply pick a word and stick with it. But, like I said, that was just a pet peeve of mine - nothing worth losing a star over. 😉

All in all, this was truly a wonderful suspense book!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

As if the last few months haven’t been hard enough—complete with threats on her life and the return of her first love, Jon—Annie has to figure out whether or not to believe a woman who claims to be her sister, Sarah, who was abducted twenty-four years ago at age five. Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, has plenty of questions about what’s going on in her mother’s life—but there are some stories Annie doesn’t want uncovered.

As Annie grapples with how to heal the gulf between her and her would-be sister and make room in her daughter’s life for Jon, she’s professionally distracted by the case of yet another missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A woman named Michelle Fraser has now been abducted, and though the woman’s estranged husband is at the top of their suspect list, Annie and her colleagues will need to dig deeper to determine whether these recent mysteries are truly as unrelated as they seem.

This is the second book in the Annie Pederson series. The first book should be read before reading this book. Annie has finally found her sister after she was kidnapped years ago. Annie still doesn't trust her sister as she has done some terrible things. Then there's her relationship she Jon. He was her first love. Can they make a go of it this time around. She's also hiding some secrets from Jon that have to come out.

This is another great book by Collen Coble that I recommend to all mystery buffs.

I received this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.

This is the second of the Annie Pederson series set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. For anyone who has read the Rock Harbor series, by Colleen Coble, this is a great return to the area. The great characters of the first series do make an appearance in this series. As expected by the author, this is an edgy, suspenseful series that kept my attention the whole time. LEO Ranger Annie and her first love, Jon, an orthopedic doctor, have reconnected but the path is not smooth as her nine-year-old daughter doesn't want someone taking her deceased father's place. Secrets abound in this story. Someone claiming to be Annie's missing sister of many years is back and seeking revenge on Annie. A lot going on! Tensions are also high as Annie and other law enforcement officers are investigating a missing person case that may be connected to other crimes in the forest. This is a multilayered plot and mystery to solve with dangers, suspense, and action. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys suspense with romance and a touch of faith. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. All thoughts are mine only.

SUSPENSE UPON SUSPENSE!

Best-selling and award-winning author Colleen Coble is back with her latest release Dark of Night (An Annie Pederson Novel Book 2) and it is filled with suspense upon suspense! This is a book where you better be ready for a new twist and turn around each corner because when you think you have figured out part of Coble’s plot, she will make a U-turn, or turn down a hidden path and surprise you with where she leads. Family drama and old relationships are doing their best to become new again. This is a fascinating read!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Thomas Nelson & NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own and without influence.

I found the premise of this novel interesting, I love a good clean (& not creepy!) thriller. And this novel delivered all those things. If you are a fan of Colleen Coble, you will enjoy this novel. If you have followed the Rock Harbour series, you will enjoy all the secondary characters. This is the second novel in the series and I would say it is important to read the first. I didn't and there were times I was confused by the plot and certain aspects. I have read some of the Rock Harbour stories but there are so, many, characters in this story. I found some of the background stories unnecessary and distracting from the main storyline. I found the story seems to pick up right where the last novel ends (not a bad thing!) but would have benefitted from a small recap of the important points. It would have helped me get into the story better.

Law Enforcement Ranger Annie Pederson manages the Tremolo Resort and Marina where she lives with her young daughter, Kylie. She has reunited with her first love, Jon Dunstan, who is Kylie’s biological father. When Annie was eight, her younger sister Sarah was kidnapped. Recently a young woman arrived at the marina, using the name Taylor, but claiming that she is Annie’s missing sister. While they wait for DNA testing, Sarah feels that she was cheated out of her life and that Annie owes her, but what does she want? Meanwhile, Annie is searching for a missing hiker. Her car was found and she may have been on the run from an abusive husband. As Annie waits to learn if Sarah really is her missing sister, she and Jon have yet to explain to Kylie that Jon is her father, she is still searching for the missing woman, and Jon’s plans for returning home may be in jeopardy. The author skillfully weaves the various stories together in this exciting read. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Dark of Night
Colleen Coble
January 10, 2023

We are in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Lake Superior is cold and choppy. Annie Pederson, law enforcement ranger for Rock County, is interviewing a woman, Taylor Moore in the interrogation room. Nothing unusual for Annie’s day. Her 6 year old daughter Kylie is in daycare. Her life since becoming involved again with her ex-fiance, Jon is pleasant and if Kyle would not be so hesitant to befriend Jon it would be perfect.
Perfect living however does not make the kind of suspense novel that Coble is known for. In one afternoon things have turned upside down. Annie would find out that Ms. Moore is not the stranger she was facing in the police station. In addition a case that was breaking that afternoon was not just a challenge but unpleasant and troublesome.
Dark of Night will be published by Thomas Nelson on January 10, 2023. I appreciate their allowing me to read and review Colleen Coble’s latest thriller via NetGalley. It is the 2nd in the Annie Pederson series. An excellent journey of small town justice as well as the delightful camaraderie of local family and friends in Rock Harbor. The first book in the series, Edge of Dusk was outstanding however Dark of Night was on edge and a thrilling read. Don’t miss continuing on in this excellent Rock Harbor/Annie Pederson series. Do enjoy

Dark of Night is book two in the Annie Pederson series. I was so happy to be able to read the second book after I had read the first. It's not always I get in at the beginning, and this made my day.

Dark of Night picks up a short time after the first book. Annie is struggling to accept Taylor/Sarah as her missing sister. Taylor/Sarah was not up front when she came back in Annie's life. Also dealing with the fact that Jon has also returned to her life and is the father of her daughter after believing it was Nate. Nate and Jon were best friends. Jon believed he could never have children until Kylie, his newly found daughter, was diagnosed with Celiac Disease the same thing he has.

As they are trying to take it slow with Kylie who is not interested in Jon being a friend with her mother, events occur that put many of them in danger with the truth about to be disclosed. So, there is a lot of family drama.

Annie is distracted by a missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Michelle Fraser has been missing for a year from her abusive husband and was working at a women's shelter. Only recently she has decided to not be afraid and come back into the world. But she gets abducted while searching for big cats in the forest. Attempting to flee her leg is broken while trying to rescue another woman from the shelter on an atv.

This was a fantastic follow up to the previous book. This is the second book I have ready by Colleen Coble and am looking forward to the next one. I love her writing style; it is so easy to read. While these are mysteries, they are kind of family oriented with a great community of support. I really enjoy the characters they are flawed but with good intentions and so likeable. I highly recommend this series as well as the author.

This is the second book in a terrific series. It can be enjoyed as a standalone, but if you want to pick up the all pieces, read the first book 'Edge of Dusk'. Annie is a law enforcement ranger for the Ottawa National Forest. When an abandoned BMW is found in the forest with a bloody sheet in the trunk, Annie needs to find the owner. Annie has a lot going on in her personal life as well. She is managing her daughter's recently diagnosed celiac disease and has reconnected with her first love Jon. Complicating her life is Taylor, who might be her sister that was kidnapped as a young child. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I love interwoven series like this one. The characters as well as the mystery keep be captivated.

Another riveting story set in the Upper Peninsula. Annie and Jon are reunited and trying to maneuver through the quagmire of life. Throw in her long lost sister, a newfound child, and suspicious activity in the forest to get a book filled with mystery, mayhem, and non stop action.

Although the scenery comes alive in her storytelling, I'm not sure I'd ever set foot in the sinister forest where all sorts of unspeakable things occur. All in all a good addition to the storyline. I can't wait to see what's in store next for Annie and Jon.

Although I received a free ARC eBook I voluntarily read and reviewed the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Dark of Night is the second book in the Annie Pederson series and it was as good as the first one. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters even better and the suspense was nail biting. We see in this book the romance between Annie and Jon progressing but Jon's relationship with Kylie still distant. There are several sub plots between minor characters that give the book great depth. I really enjoyed this one and I'm excited to read the next book in the series.
*I was given a copy of this book by Thomas Nelson Publishers and this is my honest opinion.

3.5 stars - Dark of Night is an entertaining follow-up to Edge of Dusk, the first book in this series. The pacing is more even in this installment and I like that there was more intrigue. I enjoyed the drama with the woman claiming to be Annie's sister, while taking care of her daughter and embarking in a new romance with an old love. Annie's relationship with her daughter seems realistic and I like Annie and Jon as a couple. This is a Christian romantic suspense story, so things move slowly with them, which is fine with me.

I like that this romantic suspense story is fast-paced. I like the way some aspects of the story are wrapped up. However, as in the first book, this one again ends in a cliffhanger, which I don't love. I'm not sure if I'll continue the series or not, but I did enjoy this story.

I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley through the courtesy of Thomas Nelson. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

Colleen Coble writes a great suspense novel. I had not read the previous book in this series, so it took me a little bit to figure out the characters and plot. But even with that, this book was a great suspenseful read. During the story, it is almost multiple suspense books in one! Annie is working on cases for work, there is some personal mystery that arises for Annie, Annie and Jon have some issues to work out between themselves, and then a tragedy (or two!) brings more suspense! I enjoyed the story very much and will be eager to find out what happens next for Annie, Jon, and Kylie in the next book.

I requested and received a copy of this book. The thoughts and words expressed here are wholly my own.

I love this series. The action, the pace - but mostly the characters! Colleen describes flawed, but still likable people.

Dark of NIght is book 2 in the Annie Pederson series. I haven’t read the previous book in the series and I wish I had. I feel like I would have enjoyed and understood more about Annie Pederson’s story. With that said, I found myself intrigued by Dark of NIght. Colleen Coble’s writing.gives us several mysteries to delve into.
A woman is missing and Annie Pederson gets asked to find her.
I want to read the first book in the series now!
Many thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Is Taylor really Sarah? Ranger Annie Pederson's long lost sister (Sarah) was kidnapped many years ago right in front of Annie. Annie was just a child herself. Annie's life is in an uproar right now with the appearance of Taylor/Sarah in her life, her first love is back in her life, her daughter, Kylie, is a little averse to Annie's relationship with Jon, secrets from Annie's past are about to come to light and to top it all off, her life has been threatened. Now to add to her personal issues, there is another missing hiker that they need to find. This was what I would characterize as a slow burn mystery. It was not high octane action, which is perfectly fine. There is action, it is just not on every page and every chapter. Colleen Coble is working up to a shocking ending. There were quite a few twists before this book concluded, and the culprit of the vicious acts provided quite a surprise as well. I am of the opinion that you need read book #1 before your read this one so you will more fully understand the backstory. (You will love book #1 as well). Colleen Coble does a good job of filling in the blanks. However, I think that reader will enjoy this book more fully if you understand the characters and their motives and actions.. Colleen Coble also will dangle a carrot in the end so you will be looking forward to book #3 as there is still some unfinished business.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
