Dark of Night by Colleen Coble picks up where the first book Edge of Dusk left off.
We get answers to some of the questions from book one, but new issues arise.

When a woman goes missing, Annie is called on to help find her. Ms. Coble gives us a glimpse into what the missing woman is experiencing while also drawing you deeper into Annie and Jon's life and the challenges they're facing.

Readers will be reminded that prayer os one of the best weapons we have when facing challenges.

Dark of Night is book two in the Annie Pederson series and is best enjoyed after reading Edge of Dusk as there are storylines that began in the first book.

I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher through NetGalley; a positive review was not required.

A few secrets are left by the end of the novel, but most of the storyline is complete in this story. Annie and Jon have a difficult time because of Annie’s long lost sister’s reappearance after her abduction years before, and because Annie’s daughter doesn’t like Jon. There’s more than one mystery in this book and Coble seems to weave them together fairly well. Some secrets are revealed, but it really helps if you’ve read the first novel in the series.

In full transparency, I DNFed this book about 20% through. I have seen others rate books three stars even though they DNF, so it does not mess up the book's average rating. Getting into the review, I could not get into this book because there were SO many characters in the first 30 pages. I couldn't keep any straight or parce out why they were relevant. The plot was also very odd to start with no background on what happened in the past. Also, Not to the author's fault, but the formatting of the version I sent made it impossible to read. Because of all the reasons above, I chose not to finish it.

I just finished Dark of Night by Colleen Coble. Since I’ve read some of her other books I knew I was going to be lost in all the intriguing actions in this book. Just as I expected all the twists and turns kept me turning the pages. Be sure you read this book.
All words and opinions are my own. I was given a copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

Dark of Night by Colleen Coble is book two in the Annie Pederson series. This story takes over where the first one ends so it is best to read them in order. Annie lost her husband and parents. She is running the family business and raising her young daughter alone while working as a ranger.
This is such a good, very well written Christian Romantic Suspense. It is a fast paced, action packed story that grabbed my attention right away and kept me reading just to find out what was going to happen next. This story is filled with suspense and mystery. As Annie is trying to solve a missing person case, she is also trying to find out the true identity of a young woman who could be her sister and rebuild a relationship with an ex boyfriend. I enjoyed the rebuilding of Annie and Jon’s relationship and how careful they had to be with her daughter who is still grieving the loss of the man she knew as her father. I appreciate the character of his father and the realistic input he has in their situation.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.

Oh my goodness, I was so confused! As I read, I felt that I was missing something, missing a lot, actually. It was like this was the last half of a story. Finally, I checked to see if there was a book that preceded this one and learned that I had read it last summer. When I reread my review of "Edge of Dusk", I had complained that the story didn't end but would need to be continued in the next book. So, obviously, "Dark of Night" WAS the next book.

Then, before continuing with DON, I went back and reviewed the last couple of chapters in EOD. It did help a little, but I really wish I had been able to segue from one right into the other. I would have enjoyed this so much more.

I felt that the first half moved rather slowly (but maybe that was partly my confusion) but picked up after Annie's precious little girl, Kylie, was taken. I did like the conclusion, having been worried that this one would leave me hanging, too..

So I strongly suggest that before starting this one, you read Edge of Dusk first.

** “Maybe God is teaching you about trust. You don’t have to plan out everything. Leave some room for surprises.” **

Colleen Coble continues her Annie Pederson series with the action-packed “Dark of Night.”

Picking up immediately after “Edge of Dusk,” Annie is still trying to determine if the new-to-town Taylor could possibly be her missing sister Sarah, who was kidnapped 24 years ago. She is also trying to build her relationship with Jon Dunstan, her past love, all while trying to solve the case of a missing woman, Michelle Fraser, whose abandoned car is found in the forest.

As Annie and Jon work together they continue to face dangerous situations, including some that hit a little too close to home.

Coble always does a brilliant job of developing fast-paced plots filled with action and lots of twists and turns, all while creating very relatable and extraordinary characters.

She also fills “Dark of Night” with some great themes, like dealing with blame and resentment; finding forgiveness; the impact of rejection; feeling like a failure; courage to take the unknown step; there’s always a glimmer of hope somewhere, you just have to find it; and love can overcome anything (“Love faced hard situations. It doesn’t run away when circumstances get hard.”)

Fans of authors like Irene Hannon, Terri Blockstock and Lynette Eason will love this story, which is due out Jan. 10.

Five stars out of five.

One thing I really enjoy about Colleen Coble's books is the way she weaves together multiple plot lines, in each book and throughout the series. Dark of Night was no exception, with several mysteries to keep you guessing, as well as continued growth in Annie and Jon's relationship. You will definitely want to read Edge of Dusk first, since several integral storylines are continued here. Annie and Jon are both deeply layered characters who are easy to become invested in. I can't wait to see how Coble finishes putting the pieces together in Break of Day, set to release in July 2023! This series hits all the right notes for fans of romantic suspense and Coble's earlier Rock Harbor series.

An engaging and interesting page turner. Mostly about family issues, but also a mystery. Several nail-biting moments. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

A few disclaimers: I did not realize this was the second book of a series and I did not realize the author writes clean/Christian based romance. Therefore, it was probably not the best book for me to request.

However, for readers who desire clean suspenseful romance mysteries, I think the writing and setting for this series will be well-received. Coble is an outstanding writer! Her Michigan Upper Peninsula setting was deeply atmospheric for the murder/crime solving, and I was easily hooked into the storyline. There were many second story lines that I struggled to keep up with, but I believe that is because I had not read the first book in her series!

This book will be released on January 10th and will definitely be a best seller. I appreciate the opportunity to read this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

Dark of Night is the second book in the Annie Pederson series by Colleen Coble, a favorite author of mine. I recommend reading the first book, Edge of Dusk before this one. This book takes up where the first leaves off and it is helpful to have a handle on the characters. There is a lot of personal and professional suspense along with romance throughout the story. Twists and turns kept me reading and anxious to see how it would turn out. I look forward to the third book in this series!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book and offer my honest opinion.

“Dark of Night” is a romantic suspense that takes place after “Edge of Dusk.” It follows Michelle Fraser as she goes missing in the woods in the UP. Law enforcement ranger Annie is on the case after she finds Michelle’s car hiding in the woods.
This sequel provides a nice change of pace compared to other suspense novels. Instead of being on the edge of your seat the entire time, we get to slow down and spend time in the life of ranger Annie. When she is not doing interviews and investigation where Michelle may have gone missing, she is being a mother, a girlfriend, and a sister. “Dark of Night” really humanizes our detective figure.
As this is a sequel, the book references crimes and relationships that developed in the first book. You get the feeling that you are missing something. The first book would provide some nice clarity – especially concerning Annie’s struggles with finding her missing sister – but as you continue to read the book, you realize you don’t need that information to understand what is going on. It would just provide a nice background.
This book also references the Christian faith a lot. Characters often talk about praying for others, praying for strength in themselves, and how God is looking out for them. I liked seeing such a strong faith in these characters, but I understand it may be off-putting for some.
Overall, I really liked this book. I’m used to reading suspense novels where I’m at the edge of my seat most of the time. But this book had a more relaxed feel to it. Though we were in the middle of a crime, I liked spending time with Annie, her family, and her friends in this UP community.

I will leave a review on Jan 1oth on Amazon and B&N

Dark of Night is the second book in the Annie Pederson series, overall I found this to be a good book but not a great one. It had so much going on with different twists and turns that I thought it took away from the storyline in general. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genre's to read. I would recommend this book to others.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson the publisher, I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This book starts out a little confusing for me. It took me several chapters to figure out who was who. After several chapters the story took off and I was turning the pages quickly, I enjoyed the story and look forward to the next one.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the early copy

Dark of Night is a fantastic sequel to the romantic suspense debut, Edge of Dusk, featuring law enforcement ranger, Annie Pederson.

I was only a few sentences into this story before I was reminded why I love this author’s work so much: (1) she can instantly transport me into her setting with such vivid detail, (2) she can write a clean romance and (3) she allows me into the headspace of a killer without it being too graphic.

I’ll admit to being a little confused at first as my copy of Edge of Dusk has Annie’s little sister as Laura, not Sarah. Did something happen that I don’t know about?! You can imagine my struggle trying to figure out the Taylor-Laura-Sarah confusion!!!! I’m guessing that Laura’s name was exchanged for Sarah's since I was gifted my copy of Edge of Dusk. No? Then correct me.

Annie hasn’t had an easy life and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get any easier in this sequel either. When she was 9 years old, her little sister (Laura/Sarah) was kidnapped, then she lost her husband and her parents in an accident and now she’s trying to balance a job and raise an 8-year-old as a single mother. That’s just the events of book one.

Now, on a personal level, a woman appears who claims to be Annie’s long lost sister who was abducted all those years ago and then Annie realizes that she’s got to work on getting her daughter to more readily accept Jon Dustan back in her mom’s life. Then on a professional level, Annie is involved in a case where a woman has been abducted and her estranged husband is at the top of the suspect list. It’s a lot to balance.

If Annie wants to move ahead in life, she’s got to fight. Fight for her family, for what’s hers and for what she wants. I know, it’s vague. But I can’t give it away. Just know that it makes for a fast-paced and suspense-filled read. I loved how the suspense of Michelle’s captor wasn’t revealed until the end. It kept me reading way past my bedtime.

I loved the faith and inspiration-filled passages and like how Coble integrates them into the story. This book tied in well with my bible study this week on mercy and grace.

As I suspected, Coble left us with a cliffhanger at the end. I can’t wait for the conclusion of the trilogy, Break of Day, to be published in the summer of 2023.

You’ll want to read book one before reading this one.

I was gifted this copy by Thomas Nelson and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

When park ranger Annie Pedersen’s life seems to settle down, new threats loom on the horizon. For the past 24 years, Annie’s searched for her little sister, Sarah. And suddenly, the young woman who tried to frame Annie’s boyfriend, Jon Dunstan, claims she’s Annie’s missing sister.

Annie, whose husband Nate perished along with her parents when someone sabotaged their boat, has struggled to raise her daughter Kylie alone, keep her job as a park ranger, and run a campground and marina set in the small town of Rock Harbor in Michigan’s upper peninsula. Without the help of the community, life would look a lot harder.

But Annie just found out Kylie isn’t Nate’s daughter. Jon, her high school sweetheart and now a successful orthopedic surgeon, is. Breaking the news to Jon was hard enough—how will she ever explain it to an eight-year-old and the close-knit community of Rock Harbor?

While dealing with the changes, Annie must navigate her feelings for Taylor—who might be her long-lost sister. There’s not much to like about the prickly, unpredictable young woman.

When a fancy BMW shows up deep in the forest with a bloody sheet in the trunk, Annie has a new and mysterious crime to solve. She and Jon follow leads, but no one has seen the missing woman for over a year. Has Annie uncovered another missing hiker from the U.P. wilderness?

When someone starts attacking Annie and Jon, they must solve the mystery before one of them ends up dead.

What I Loved About this Book

The second in Coble’s new series about Annie Pederson doesn’t disappoint. The second-chance romance continues as Annie and Jon figure out their rekindled relationship and struggle to help Kylie accept Jon as Annie’s boyfriend. Long-time fans of Coble will recognize characters from her other series set in Rock Harbor.

Readers will also relate to the struggle between grace, mercy, and justice. Does someone with an awful childhood deserve a little more of the first two?

Fans of Lynette Eason, Carrie Stuart Parks, and Cara Putman will enjoy this book.

A fast paced, action packed and compelling thriller that kept me on the edge and guessing.
I liked the style of writing and the storytelling.
It's the first novel I read by Coleen Coble and won't surely be the last.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this arc, all opinions are mine

Readers will want to read Edge of Dusk, the first in the Annie Petersen series before reading this book to fully grasp the storyline. Mysterious vandalism, spousal abuse and murders will have readers guessing the outcomes. Loved learning more about the search dogs and their unique talents. Love the setting of the UP in Michigan. Looking forward to reading the next in the series. Recommended.

We are back with Annie Pederson, the second book in this series, and the author does a great job of bringing us up to date, but you miss a chunk of the story, I do recommend you read the first book. This is the continuation, the search for a lost sister.

This is a page turner, there is non-stop action, from bullets to cougars, with so many twists and turns, and in the background there is a young girl, Kylie, who becomes the center of this story.

When a lot of questions are finally answered, I still needed some answers!

Looking forward to the third book in this series, Break of Day coming in 2023!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.

Annie has been searching for her sister for years after she was abducted when they were children. Now a woman has turned up claiming to be her sister, but can Annie trust her. She came into Annie’s life lying about who she was so Annie has a hard time trusting her. There is also a story about a woman who has gone missing. The search for the missing women puts Annie and her family in danger. There is a lot going on in this books, lots of twists and plenty of suspense. It is part of a series but I think it could be read as a stand alone. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
