Darcy Coates is an author I see everywhere. I was so excited to get the chance to read this book in her gravekeepers series. I can see why everyone loves Coates books because this was amazing. I highly recommend this to lovers of the paranormal. I also liked the characters, Zoe, Mason and Kiera. I found their relationships with each other relatable and I found it funny how witty they were.
If you love ghosts I can’t see why you wouldn’t enjoy this book so give it a shot!
Thank you NetGalley for this review copy!
There were three things that stood out to me when I saw this available for review: it was a Darcy Coates book, the amazing vibrant purple cover (love it!), and when I read the description, the main character is named Keira. My daughter's name is Keira and I clicked request so fast because I never see her name, specifically spelled this way, anywhere. Then I learned it was the third in a series and bought the first 2 books and blew through them in a week before I dove in. I am SO happy I discovered this series. You do not need to have read the first two books, but it definitely helps in understanding Keira's background and who she and her friends are. Enough is explained throughout The Twisted Dead though to have a basic understanding of Keira's origin.. or lack of an origin story. I cannot wait to continue reading this series. I would classify this series as a cozy horror series. I love all the characters and how in every book, Keira is picking up new friends and allies in odd places. I'm excited to see where her story goes!
Darcy does it again in the third book of her Gravekeeper series.
I flew threw the first two books in this series and eagerly awaited this third installment. And it did not disappoint. Darcy writes some of the most intriguing and versatile stories that always leave me creeped out yet feeling warm. So far the Gravekeepers series has the most heartwarming characters and plot I've read while also providing the paranormal and eerie atmosphere I love. Keira, Zoe, and Mason are the best trio and they each provide an aspect to the group that makes this book so great. All of the side characters have their own charm (or villainous quality) to make this an intriguing story. Darcy Coates writes amazing books in general, but the characters in this one are what particularly make me love it so much. Also, Blighty is such a great setting and as someone who loves graveyards, they're a focal point in this series.
While we get some well deserved answers we're also left with more questions. I'm so excited to see what the next book in this series brings. I'll be patiently (anxiously) waiting.
If you're looking for a cozy horror with plenty of mystery and adventure, I HIGHLY recommend reading this series!
UGH! This ended up being a DNF for me. I have heard such good things about Darcy Coates, but both books I have read in this series, just did not work out for me. Maybe I will be able to find something else of hers that will work out for me.
This was my first Darcy Coates book (Thanks NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press!). I wish I had paid attention as it’s part of a series. That being said, it was a good, quick read. The premise was original, and there wasn’t unnecessary fluff to mire down the reader. This read more like a Mystery for me, not so much Horror, and is a book I would let my 14-year-old read. It had a wholesome, everybody- can- read feel. The character Zoe almost spoiled it for me with the constant joking but at least some of the jokes were actually funny.
All things considered, the writing, and premise were good- I would give Darcy Coates another shot, just not sure I would continue this series as it was not scary enough for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Darcy Coates for letting me read this early. It was a really good 3rd book for this series. I would have finished it sooner but things happen but I wanted to not stop reading. This series is one of my favourites as the characters are entertaining, unique and interesting. I am always awaiting the next Darcy Coates book because they are spooky, scary and very interesting.
I was intrigued by the blurb on this book, and I was reluctant to try it since it was the third in the series, and I hadn’t read the others. I’m so glad I took the chance. The author does an absolutely great job of making sure new readers aren’t left in the cold with what is going on, and I never, not once, felt I was missing something. This was a very fun and spellbinding book with three friends who go on a ghost hunt because Keira has an unusual ability. She doesn’t remember her past, but she gets some answers in this one, and after reading this one, I’m full vested on continuing Keira, Mason, Daisy, and maybe Harry’s journey in the next book…which I will be anxiously awaiting. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
The Twisted Dead is the third book in the Gravekeeper series. The book stands on its own, but if you want the backstory, grab the first two books also. You won't regret it. The main character can see and communicate with ghosts and tries to help those that haven't passed over completely achieve that. The setting and characters are great, and I look forward to more in this series.
This is the third book of Darcy Coate’s Gravekeeper series. It was just as much fun as the previous two.
Our trio of ghostbusters, Keira, Mason, and Zoe, are invited to an eerie recluse’s mansion. Dane Crispin is the last living Crispin and is in need of dire help. The three amigos are hesitant at first, given their history with Dane, but eventually feel sympathetic to his plight and offer their help. What follows is a fast paced hunt to help Dane and some ghosts living in his home.
As usual, the story was fast paced, fun to read, and held my attention from start to end. I do enjoy these light cozy ghost stories. Thank you #NetGalley and Black Owl Books for sending me the ebook #TheTwistedDead
I absolutely love this author. This was a fantastic read and can’t wait for more! Thanks for allowing me the chance to read and review.
I have never read a bad Darcy Coates book and after this one, my streak of excellent books from her continues!
This is the third installment in the Gravekeeper series, and it certainly does not disappoint. The story follows Keira and two of her friends. When she receives an invitation to dinner at the town recluse’s house, she can’t refuse. She soon finds out the house is being smothered by troubled spirits and surrounded deep in history.
This story is so wonderful. It’s incredibly tense and fast-paced. I blew through this one in a matter of days. The tension builds as the book progresses, and this story had me in a chokehold until the very end. If you love Darcy Coates books, definitely don’t sleep on this one.
I was given an ARC copy of this book by the publisher and netgalley in exchange for an honest review. When I picked up this book I wasnt aware that it was a book three in the series. But reading them out of order is not an issue at all. I fell in love with this story!! I love all things that contain magic and witchcraft but also anything spooky. Her magical gift lands her in a graveyard and that to me was so interesting. And I loved her pet cat!! The author did a great job with building suspense and keeping you engrossed in the story!! I could not put this book down!
This was the third book in the series which I didn’t know when I started to read it. I haven’t read the other 2 books and I wasn’t too confused while reading. There really isn’t a lot that is referenced from the other books and all you just really need to know is that Keira was found without any memory and that she is trying to figure out who she was and what her power is and how she can use it and what she is running from. Keira figures out a lot more about why the people in the white vans are after her and a little more on what she was doing before she ended up in Blightly and that her power has something to do with it. Since she can see ghosts and help them cross over but she can’t really talk to them. She does end up helping Dane Crispin with his ghost problems since she didn’t know if she could when he first asked for her help. This was a really interesting read and how the ghosts are being used is very interesting and I want to know more about that.
Thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book in e-book form. All opinions in this review are my own.
Fantastic continuation of this series! Keira is such a bamf and I adore her! Darcy's writing never fails to pull me into the story. I get so sucked in and just want to read all day.
Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an advanced copy for review.
The 3rd installment of The Gravekeeper series is definitely my favorite so far. We rejoin Keira, Zoe, and Mason while they try to exterminate some particularly devious ghosts, as well as find out more about Keira's past.
I absolutely love these books. Darcy Coates continues to deliver excellent ghost stories that are horrifying with a side of wholesome. Which, like, how do you do that? I don't know, but Darcy Coates always adds a bit of lightheartedness into her novels that keep me coming back to them as comfort books. I find myself laughing at Zoe's quirkiness and Harry's dark offhand comments and then being absolutely floored by the way Keira's story unfolds.
There is also something to be said about the why Coates has begun integrating political metaphors into her novels. So much of the horror genre is political and I think this greatly captures private sector monopolistic greed and the (literal) soul-sucking capitalist society which feeds it. Ghosts and capitalist conspiracies - what more could I ask for in a horror novel?
The Gravekeeper series just gets better with every book. As soon as I started reading I was instantly reminded why I love these characters so much. Honestly, even if you haven’t read the first two in the series, this book alone is enough to make you love Zoe, Mason and Keira. Even Harry’s little cameos are some of my favorite parts.
In this book, not only do we get a few more missing pieces from Kiera’s past, we also dive a little more into Mason’s time he spent at med school, as well as Dane Crispin’s life after he asks Keira to help him with a ghost problem he’s having.
Of course, Coates is such an amazing writer, there isn’t a dull moment in this book. Everything ties together so nicely in the end that your left feeling both satisfied and wanting more!
I cannot wait for the next installment of this series!
The Twisted Dead is the third book in the Gravekeeper series. The two first books is called The Whispering Dead and The Ravenous Dead. I like to know as little as possible about a book before I start reading it, so I did not know this book was the third in the series oops. I started suspecting it and googled it in the beginning of the book, but by that time I was so invested that I did not want to wait til after reading the two first books before finishing it. That says a bit about how good this book is!
Keira has lost her memory, but since then she has gotten friends and a job as the groundskeeper in a small town’s cemetery. Keira has the ability to see ghosts and help them get through to the other side. In the story her friend Marcus and the creepy old guy next door both want her help.
I enjoyed reading this so much! The writing took my right into the story, and even though I haven't read the first two books, the characters are written so good I got to know them fast and felt like I have known them much longer. The plot is so intruiging, and I loved how the story contained of so many different parts that fit together so well. I got really really excited to read the rest of the series!
The Twisted Dead is the third installment in the Gravekeeper series by Darcy Coates. This series follows Keira- our ghost communicating mystery woman who has no memory of where she came from.
This is a fun series that has a very New Adult/YA feel to it with witty quips and a couple over-the-top characters who breathe a bit of comedic life into the story.
TTD gives us a bit more insight into some plotlines mentioned in the previous book- Dane Crispin, Mason's college experience, and a bit more insight into Keira's backstory and the mysterious organization that has been hounding her since she arrived in the town of Blighty.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and read it in a single sitting. It's got a lighthearted feel to it despite dealing with dark subject matter. I find that the book has loveable characters and I will always love a book that features a cat!
However, this one didn't quite hit the way the other two did. I felt at times that it was just a *bit* too fantastical and Zoe's character and dialogue got a bit too quirky to view her as a real person. It also felt a bit more rushed than the other two.
Despite that, I still recommend this series for someone searching for a fun horror series to read with loveable characters! It's fun and interesting without being heavy.
3.5 stars rounded up for NetGalley/Goodreads purposes.
Ever since I read Darcy Coates' The Haunting of Ashburn House, I've been looking forward to getting my hands on her other books, so I was elated to receive an ARC of this book!
Apparently, this book is the third in the Gravekeeper series but I was still able to follow the story, thanks to snippets of Keira's memories and the fact that it could be read as a stand-alone book.
This book finds the protagonist, Keira, working in a graveyard in exchange for lodgings. She has lost some of her memory but not her power to see ghosts and help them cross over. In the beginning they get invited to a crumbling mansion where Dane Crispin leaves and immediately Keira feels that something is going on in the mansion, sapping its sole inhabitant of his energy and zest for life.
In search for information that could help save Dane Crispin, Keira and her friends Mason and Zoe unearth something far more sinister, something that involves Keira's past life before amnesia set in.
This was such a fun read and I'm a fan of Zoe's witty remarks delivered at just the right moment to ease tension and make harrowing moments more bearable. Darcy delivers and this book did not fail.
**Thanks to NetGalley for giving me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.**
Safe to say, I became an instant fan of this series by chapter one. The “fancy black dress” sentence hooked me! I hadn’t previously read the books that came before but after the first chapter, I went back and read them. I’m ready to keep consuming them as fast as they come out! Thank you to Net Galley and author for my copy of the book to review!
This series is witty, action packed and the characters are fantastic. You have our FMC, Kiera, an amnesiac who can communicate with the dead and help them cross to the other side. We meet Mason, the seemingly “normal” one, and Zoe, our amazingly paranoid conspiracist! Both help Kiera as she learns what her powers can do and why the shadow organization keeps hunting her.
