Keira see ghosts. Keira can't remember her past. Keira doesn't know why people are chasing her. In this third book in the grave keeper series, we are starting to get some answers to big questions. Along the way Keira and her friends, Zoe and Mason, are determined to help Dane Crispin who has a ghost problem. It is hard to categorize this book series as it feels almost like a cozy horror. There are very dark and disturbing situations, full of action, but also a slow burning romance and a small town with repeating characters to draw on. This might be my favorite book of the series so far as there is a lot of satisfying events.

Thank you NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

If you're a fan of Darcy Coates you're going to really love this novel. I am, so I did. But for fans of bloody, gory, splattery type horror, you won't find that here.

What you will find is a fantastically written, character driven, and completely engaging book about a woman with amnesia who has "the gift" of second sight. But Darcy handles this in such a delicate way it distinguishes itself from the rest of "I see dead people" books. Because you'll love the three main characters and the villain, in this case, is an evil corporation. Oh yeah, it's life or death as Keira tries to remember her past and figure out why these people want her dead.

In the meantime, our three friends have plenty of other supernatural things to figure out and the overarching storyline connects with these side adventures perfectly without feeling forced.

Think of an adult version of Scooby Doo except the restless spirits are real...and there's no Scooby unfortunately lol! This is a good thing because the action never lets up and, as the pieces come together, they're faced with something they might not be able to run from.

I loved this book and I recommend it to anyone who wants a fantastic supernatural character driven novel!

This is the 3rd in the series and I haven’t read the previous 2 yet. I don’t think you necessarily have to read them in order but there were many references to the previous adventures of Keira, Mason, and Zoe. Maybe that’s why I enjoyed this book but didn’t love it. Thanks NetGalley and the author for this eARC.

This is my first Darcy Coates and I missed it was the third book in a series. Fortunately, the author did a great job imparting the needed information. I never felt there was a missing puzzle piece.

For those who've read the first 2 books -- imagine that -- Keira can see ghosts, but can't remember her past. She has a cat that seems to have more going on than meets the eye. She's a caretaker at a cemetery -- Keira, not the cat. Although, I don't know. The cat is clearly up to something.

I wanted the book to be more what the synopsis set it up to be -- an invitation to dinner by the town recluse, him begging our main character Keira for help, a dilapidated mansion. Ghosts. As that portion was unspooled I settled in for a great read. It was spooky, and filled with pathos, and I love an old mansion.

And it turned out to be a very small portion of the story.

Most of the book involved a road trip, a furthering of the greater central mystery of Keira's identity -- she has amnesia -- and the sinister people and/or organization that wants to find her. A portion of the story also concerned her friend. Mason, and a tragic incident in his past.

The events of the road trip are interesting and well-written. I enjoyed all of this, and really do want to know how the storyline continues going forward. Still, I can't lie and say I wasn't a bit disappointed that the thing that made me request an arc book-ended the story more than it was the story.  The events, however, did help Keira resolve that story as well. And there was a very horrifying scene at a cemetery other than, you know, the one Keira lives at.

The author is both funny and brings the pathos, and I'm into that. Maybe that's why I missed the story I thought I was getting as much as I did. She gave the man needing help, Dane Crispin, a truly horrifying and tragic predicament, and I kept imagining him waiting for help.

Keira spends most of the story with Mason and Zoe. Mason has dropped out of medical school, and in this installment we get his backstory. He's kind and a little unintentionally funny. I like him.

Zoe can be hysterically funny. Also really grating. The author definitely likes over-the-top characters. In the case of this emo kid, as much as I rolled my eyes at the cliches, it wasn't so bad. We spend a lot of time with Zoe though.

A lot of time with Zoe.

I thought we could maybe feed her to a shade -- a malevolent spirit.

I laughed out loud on occasion. There's something about someone saying wildly inappropriate things in serious situations that can be funny. When I tell you that she never stopped, though. The soundtrack to the road trip was really bad music she wouldn't turn off, and yet she wasn't left at the side of the road.

<i>"Zo?" Mason raised one of the books she'd passed to him. "This one's on werewolves."

"Yeah. I got a bit carried away. But, hey, ghosts are real. Which means, statistically. we have a really good chance of encountering a werewolf in our lifetime."

"That's very much not how statistics work."

"Agree to disagree."</i>

She also has a great riff about only one bed, and enemies to lovers.

The funniest quote is "Crimson," Keira said. "Uh, ka-kaw?" But you had to be there.

As a minor aside, there's a plot point about wanting to burn white sage for protection. That's considered a closed practice from Indigenous cultures, one they were forbidden to practice.

Anyhow, I enjoyed the story and think I'll continue on to see the payoff for the storylines that are being set up. I wish I could find more good ghost stories that are written as if that were good enough.

Page turner in the beginning and the middle and the end! this is a rare fine to be honest! This would be the definition of a cozy horror if I would personally define it. Not like gory scary but not like relaxing scary. Something that has the vibe of Graveyard game on Nintendo DS vibes

I wanted to love this book with my whole heart, but I struggled with it. I actually went and bought books 1/2 so I could read this ARC. My biggest problem with this book was the pacing. It just isn’t quite fast paced enough to be a horror in my opinion. I love the world she’s created, I just wish it had more umph to it.

This book was a page turner from the very beginning! I would definitely revisit and recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book they cannot put down! It doesn’t even matter if we’re not in the spooky season anymore- read it!

This is the fifth of Darcy Coates books that I have read, and I have decided that I'm definitely a fan. Apparently this genre is called 'cosy horror,' creepy and spooky and atmospheric but not too full on or explicit. I am a huge horror fan, the more terrifying the better, but this book was a fantastic palate cleaner.
The Twisted Dead is the 3rd in a series, which I didnt realise when I requested it from Netgalley (My bad- it says #3 on the cover), and I wouldnt usually jump in this late in the game, but it was thorougly enjoyable and I understood everything that happened. Of course, there had to be a few info dumps just to get people like me who dont pay attention to serialised books to undersrand what was happening, but this definitely didnt detract from the pacing or the mood.
The supernatural elements of this book were strong, but also had some thriller vibes as one of the subplots. Personally I wasnt as interested in this element of the story, but I was well and truly down for the ghosty parts, and I eagerly look forward to the next book in the series.

By nature, I am not a huge fan of series but I excitedly await new installments in this series! The Gravekeeper series is what I like to call “cozy horror”. It’s just the right blend of spooky and endearing without being sleep with the lights on scary. I feel like it’s Darcy Coates at her best. I love the paranormal elements of a main character who sees ghosts mixed with the cozy element of her loyal crew of friends both human and spirit that help her right wrongs and solve mysteries. Each book in the series wraps up with a very satisfactory ending that still compels me to await the next installment. If you’re coming off a spooky vibes high and want to mix in a little cozy, give this series a try!
Much thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC. For the book synopsis please see post description

Thank you so much Netgalley, Darcy Coates and Poisoned Pen Press for letting me read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was my third book I've read by Darcy and really like her writing and the spooky, creepy atmospheres she give the readers in her stories.

I like The Twisted Dead and happy to read it this Halloween weekend.
I am though more of a plot kind of reader and this is more character driven, so my final rate landed on 3 ⭐.

I am in love with this series. Darcy does such an amazing job with writing these characters. Mason and Zoe are the best of friends and I wish I had them in my life. Kiera's story continues to keep me totally hooked and I am so excited to continue reading books in this series. Each story is different and intertwined at the same time and I love all the connections. I highly recommend this to fans of general fiction, horror, and thriller!

So this third book in the series had a little more action than the previous two, which was good. Unfortunately not good enough. I still think it's very cheesy, subpar to her usual work. I really hate Zoe. And so much of the plot is much too far-fetched. Also I have never seen someone overuse the word "sallow" so much. I might recommend these to someone who's looking for horror-lite. Maybe.

I've enjoyed Darcy Coates's work in the past, but this book seemed incredibly juvenile to me and not very spooky at all.

I love reading Darcy Coates so I was super excited to be able to read her newest. This book kept me turning the pages. Loved the story line behind it. Was definitely a different read than I usually do but fully enjoyed it.

3 stars.

This was my first Darcy Coates novel. I have been interested in her work for a while now so I am glad to have finally read a story by her.

This is book 3 in a series. I hadn't read the previous two and I do regret not doing so before I got to this. There were many things that I did not understand because I realised they were references to things that had taken place in books 1 and 2. But I did not let that factor into my star rating. If you want to read this book, I highly suggest reading the first two books first.

I quite liked this story. The characters were likeable, particularly Mason and Zoe. The story line was interesting and I can clearly see why Darcy's books are so popular. She knows how to write! There were some parts, just a small few, that I felt weren't interesting but for the majority, the events kept me wanting to see what would happen next.

So why 3 stars and not 4. Well, because while I enjoyed this, I didn't love it. I am definitely interested in reading more from her and will be in the future.

Darcy Coates writes ghost stories like no one else. I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this one and when I realized it was the third in a series, I read the first two first!
Keira, the amnesiac heroine and her friends help ghosts pass on in this atmospheric series full of spooky creatures and quirky humans!

Special thanks to Poisoned Pen Press and NeTGalley for a copy of this advanced reader copy of The Twisted Dead by Darcy Coates.

This is the 3rd installment in the Gravekeepers series by Darcy Coates. It's a horror novel about a girl who doesn't remember her past but can see ghosts and knows she is being hunted.

It's marketed as adult horror, but it could easily be a YA horror. It is very easy to read and fast-paced.

I love all of Darcy Coates books and this one is great. It comes out in February of 2023.

Now I just have to wait impatiently on book #4.

I think this is my favorite so far! The story is great and we finally get to find out a little more information about who Keira is. I’m really hoping the next book will find Keira and Mason exploring a relationship, you can feel the spark between them!

I didn’t realise this was the third book in a series BUT it didn’t matter. I will still go back and read the first two, however this is a complete story in its own right and the author does a good job of telling you what you need to know. Overall this was fun, creepy and humorous. The perfect winter night read.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series of books. I love all the characters right down to the cat. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Henry and Dane too.
I liked that we have some progression in Kiera's history with finding out who the group that is chasing her are and possibly why their chasing her.
I can't wait for the next one, maybe I'll just reread the whole series!
