Kat just can’t seem to catch a break with me . The last one left her with his hedgehog. But maybe there’s hope.
Kat spends a lot of time with the Sullivan family, thinking Joe is her ideal, but then why she spend more time thinking about Mick?
When she does discover who she really wants, I did get irritated with Kat because she acted like an idiot and then expected him to come running after her.
It ends ok, but the funeral home aspect was unsettling and creepy.
This was my first read from Melonie Johnson - though I’ve been trying to pick up a copy of Too Good to Be Real for ages. I’m glad the books, while slightly connected, are standalone, so I can still go back without spoilers from this one.
Too Wrong to Be Right was very sweet and cute (also, sweet and swoony, aka closed door/clean). I enjoyed it for the most part, but did have a few things that rubbed me the wrong way. I’m not a fan of love triangles, especially when it’s brothers… but to befriend someone who is clearly wanting more and who she is clearly interested in, then going after his brother - that part of the plot really drove me mad!
Otherwise, it was great, the adorable animals included was a great touch! The florist and funeral home worker and meet-cute over a coffin - very unique!
I would definitely recommend this one, as long as everyone is ok with the brother love triangle trope, and knows going in (unlike me!), that this is a big part of the storyline.
I received an advance review copy from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin, and this is my honest feedback.
POV: Dual
Spice: 🌶️ 🌶️.5
There are a lot of lovable parts to this book, the grandmothers, Mick’s family, and my favorites, the funny bird and adorable hedgehog!
With a one of a kind meet cute, I was really rooting for Mick and Kat in the beginning because they just seemed so perfect together. Things started to drag a little and then towards the end I wasn’t sure if I liked either of them anymore. I think things would’ve been a lot better if the book ended right when Kat realizes Mick is the guy for her, because it’s what happens after that moment that I wasn’t a fan of. I guess this is sort of closed door, but it details everything leading up to the big event, so if you like a little steam then you will appreciate this one.
The funeral home and flower shop settings add a uniqueness to this story and there were definitely a few funny moments as well as sad ones in this friends to lovers romance!
I am giving this book 3.5 stars because I did not love it but did not hate it. It had so much potential to be a really good book, but I kept getting annoyed with Kat. Just because I did not love this book does not mean that someone else will feel the same way as I do.
The book starts off with Kat getting dumped by her boyfriend Tad, so she decides that she is done dating jerks and makes a list of the qualities she wants in her Mr. Right. Due to the list, Kat writes off Mick the first time she meets him because he is confident and winks at her. Why is being confident or winking things that make you automatically say he is Mr. Wrong? Mick turns out to be a good guy and perfect for her, but she does not realize that till almost the very end of the book. There were a few funny parts involving a corpse and a bird that has a dirty mouth lol.
Thank you, NetGalley for an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
If you like strangers to friends to lovers then this one is for you.
Kat and Mick are an insta-love, crushing on each other hard, obviously made for each other dream.
Both of them are incredibly stubborn which is the only reason they don't jump each other's bones from the get-go but what a hilarious ride to get there!
Too Wrong to Be Right is a captivating romance that showcases the power of chemistry and love to remind both the main characters and readers that sometimes the person you least expect to fall for is the one you need the most. An enthralling and entertaining read from start to finish, this book is sure to leave you with a smile on your face!
3.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin Press for an advanced copy of this book!
I should know by now that light hearted rom coms are not my jam but I keep reading them thinking this will be the one to change my opinion. Spoiler alert: it was not. If you like a light hearted, easy, minimal spice rom com this is the book for you!
This was a strangers to friends to lovers book that was mild on the smut. The story was fun, there was a hedgehog, a cockatoo, a funeral home and LGBTQ+ representation.
Overall it was a good read, and I think this one could be really popular!
3.5 stars. This book felt like one big miscommunication trope. If you’ve ever read any of my reviews, you’ll know that miscommunication is my most hated trope of all time.
I loved the friendships our female main character had. That was my favorite part of the entire book. The longtime best friends, the coworkers turned business partners, even the relationship with her grandmother.
If the two main characters had just gotten their acts together and talked to each other sooner, I might have rated this higher.
I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
Kat works at a flower shop with her two friends. Her dream is to one day own and operate her own flower shop.
Mick works at a funeral home which is his family's business. Unfortunately, it is not his dream, he is just doing it for his family. He hopes to one day help people with his psychology degree.
Mick and Kat quickly became friends and they go on a search for a man for Kat. She tried sticking to a list of what she wanted in a man without realizing what was in front of her the entire time.
This book has dual POV going between Kat and Mick. I thought it was perfect. It really helped you see their feelings for one another grow. They were both very comfortable being around one another so it seemed easy for them to go from friends to lovers.
I loved the growth both characters had throughout the story. You watch Kat and Mick grow and become confident with themselves and what they want in their careers.
This is a really cute story that will have you rooting for Kat and Mick to get together from the first few pages.

3.5 Stars! This was a fun read with likeable characters, great banter, and some laugh-out-loud moments.
Kat is on a mission to find her Mr. Right and determined that he should not be like all the other guys she's had in her life. When she meets Mick, she's drawn to him but, unfortunately, he reminds her of those past boyfriends and he gets put into the friend zone even though she feels the chemistry. Mick was a great character and I really enjoyed watching him interact with Kat and with his family as well. I really liked him and felt for him as he had to deal with his feelings for Kat and respect her wishes as well.
I wasn't as big of fan of Kat's decisions in this book - until the end, that is. I also had trouble with the fact that the book is written in third person. For me, that writing style doesn't seem to convey the character's feelings clearly enough - I always want to feel like I'm seeing right into their souls and this style doesn't do that for me. I will say, however, that third-person or not, the overall writing is great, easy to read, and the story line flows well.
I was happy with the end of the book and enjoyed the last few chapters a lot. Watching Kat realize that Mr. Right was there the whole time was great - I'm definitely a sucker for a HEA and this book has a great one!
Too Wrong to Be Right really left me disappointed, the heroine wasn't my favorite and I wanted so much more for this story. It felt rushed and off.
I loved this one so much.
Did I get a little teary eyed reading this while waiting for my car that was being serviced. Maybe.
Kat is a hopeless romantic who’s done dating jerks. Set with a list to find the one she instead meets Mick. Socks don’t match Mick. He can’t be the one.
But maybe fate has has its own plans.
After being dumped by her boyfriend (and acquiring his pet hedgehog), Kat has decided to revamp her dating style. She will make clinical decisions about who she is dating to avoid being hurt. And that means no longer dating men who make her heart pound. But a meeting with Mick O’Sullivan, the co-owner of the funeral home she was delivering flowers to, makes it hard for her to keep to that decision. Thankfully Mick understands and is willing to be just Kat’s friend. But the more time they spend together, the more Kat starts to wonder if she is making the right decision. Will Kat allow herself to fall for Mick? Or will he always be stuck in the friend zone?
I knew I would like this book when the first line mentioned a crocheted penis. And I wasn’t wrong. This book had me cracking up laughing the entire time I read it. Oh, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all funny. There were some serious parts, but most of Too Wrong to Be Right was hilarious.
I loved Kat and Mick’s dynamic. In the beginning, when Kat was caught trying to put a flower on a corpse during a viewing, I knew she was the one for Mick. And Mick knew it too. But he wouldn’t ruin a chance at a friendship with her, so his feelings were locked down. Because this is a 3rd person dual storyline, I got to see what he thought whenever he was with her. And vice versa.
Kat did irritate me slightly during the book, but I got why she acted the way she did. If I had the dating luck she did, I would have become a nun. I disagreed with her wanting to date Mick’s older brother (who honestly was an idiot for 98% of the book) while knowing that Mick had feelings for her. It left a bad taste in my mouth. In my mind, she didn’t have respect for Mick or his emotions. Again, I understand why she did it but still…
I was also slightly irritated with the secondary storyline with the flower shop and her trying to take ownership of it. I don’t know why she thought that Allen would give it to her, and I loved the answer he gave Kat when she asked him that.
The animals in Too Wrong to Be Right do need a shout-out. The hedgehog Kat was given was the best thing that happened to her. I loved that its best friend was a hamster, and they had sleepovers. I also loved that the hamster’s owner gave the hedgehog a fashion makeover. I was dying laughing at that. And let’s not forget the foul-mouthed cockatiel at the funeral home. It talked with an Irish accent!!! And what it would say to Mick and his brother were some of the best scenes in the book.
There are sex scenes in Too Wrong to Be Right. They weren’t super graphic. Actually, they were cute in their way.
The end of Too Wrong to Be Right was a HEA. I liked how Mick tracked Kat down. It reminded me of some rom-com endings. But I loved the epilogue. It made me want Mick’s brother, sister, and cousin to find their HEA!!
I would recommend Too Wrong to Be Right to anyone over 21. There is sex, mild violence, and language.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffin, NetGalley, and Melonie Johnson for allowing me to read and review Too Wrong to Be Right. All opinions stated in this review are mine.
I’m just disappointed
Maybe I expected too much or maybe this just wasn’t for me. It was overall a cute comfy and easy read but something felt rushed and off.
The heroine wasn’t my favourite. I kept wanting more from her. Because mick was so precious!!! Literaly perfection. The redeeming part of this review was mick!!
Full of the signature hilarity I’ve come to expect from Johnson, and no one does opening lines like her.
I really loved Kat, and how hard she tried to break free from the molds of her past relationships and search for something new and more stable, I just wish it wasn’t at Mick’s expense. I didn’t love her fighting the instant attraction to him because he was so damn sweet and thoughtful and willing to do whatever she wanted. Watching him get friendzoned was brutal, and was what stopped me from giving this five stars.
All in all, though, loved this from Johnson and I’m excited for what’s next!
I loved this book and it is the first I read by this author. The books are connected but can be read as a stand-alone . Kat just wants to find love but somehow sways seems to find the wrong ones. Until she drops off flowers at a funeral home and meets mick snd his wonderful family. They become fast friends and don’t want to ruin What they have. Until they both realize they want more. I loved all the quirks in this book and highly recommend
This book took me a while to read for several reasons. The main reason was my reading slump and second was the slow start to the book. The first 50% was not anything special, we got to know our characters and the friendships was established. But after the 50% mark things picked up. The hero was absolutely amazing and I loved seeing the live he had for the heroine and my only complaint is that I wish we saw more of them happy together. Seamus the bird is absolutely the best character.
This is my first read by Melonie Johnson. I loved certain parts and hated others. There were very cutesy rom-com like pieces but then it get like the relationship moved too fast to be believable (even for a romance) so I found myself feeling disconnected and not involved in the relationship between the characters. I would give another of her books a try but would prefer a better build up to make me think these people have any sort of connection.
“A bird that swears in an Irish accent?” Andie snorted. “Sounds like you stumbled into a rom-com to me.”
I’m not sure what it says about me that the character I was most interested in was a sweary cockatoo. Between Seamus and a hedgehog named JoJo, the animals were more it for me than the people.
This one starts with Kat being dumped by her bf Tad. In one conversation he announces he’s dumping her to go audition for a job out of the country, as in he is headed to the airport that night. Added to that he expected her to keep his hedgehog because he didn’t want to go through the trouble of moving with it. Tad is not my favorite person.
This leads Kat to swear off dating aholes, soooo of course she almost immediately runs into the incredibly handsome and charming Mick, while running a delivery for the florist she works for to the funeral home his family runs. He appears, on the surface, to be the type of guy she’s sworn to avoid going forward - hot and fun, but not forever material. His brother Joe on the other hand may come off a little dull, but is steady, stable, and kind. The type of man she thinks she should be looking for.
There’s a supportive friend group, some super interesting family member/side characters, a HEA *including* a Grand Gesture, most of the things I love in a romcom. I’m thinking maybe love triangles just aren’t for me though. The best choice seemed obvious to me, coming down to someone she was attracted to *and* friends with and someone she seemed to have to make herself consider because he came off safer.
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for the ARC
This book is too much of a slow burn for me. The conversations between Kat and Mick seem to be a bit forced and I’m getting bored by the situations that Kat keeps putting herself in. DNF at 45%
