I did enjoy a lot about this book, but there were so many errors with the writing and editing that it made it hard to rate it any higher.
It was hard to support Kat as the main character with how she treated the brothers. She had to know that Mick had feelings for her but was openly talking about being interested in his brother. And after their first sexual encounter she then hits on Joe?? Like what?? She talks about being drawn to dating assholes but maybe it is because she is one herself.
I wish the list was a bit better thought out. Everything on it was the typical stuff... dependable, loyal, likes to cuddle. I wish there was something more of substance on there. And what specifically was on the list was never brough back up, just a mention of a list for the perfect guy.
How the hell is Kat the one who had to make things right?? After their fight I definitely feel like Mick should have been the one to fix things. Also it was never discussed or resolved between them about when Mick mentioned that he finally got the girl, referencing when his ex picked Joe over him. I feel that this was the catalyst to that argument and needed to be resolved. Mick needed to apologize for this but never did
This book definitely needs to be edited before being published. I noticed at least 6 errors, which means there are probably even more.
- Location 1187: there is a random quotation mark in between the dialogue. the quotation mark after exciting should be removed
- Location 1464: there is a random quotation mark before Kat that should not be there
- Location 2543: missing the word him after "with". it should say "Something was off with him."
- Location 3671: "wish" should be "waste"
- Location 3926: there should be a quotation mark after "It would belong to us". instead there is nothing to indicate the end of the dialogue.
- Location 4932: Mick's name is spelled wrong

Okay this needs to be made into a Netflix movie, it was so cute. I recently started to read more romcoms and I have loved everything about them and who doesn’t love a cute pet/animal in a book. This was my first Melonie Johnson book and it will not be my last.
I loved melonies writing style, it was fast paced, and she has a way with words. I never once in the book felt that I was dragging, there was always something going on. I thought the attention to details was done well, not too much but the perfect amount to visualize what I was reading, I really loved Kats co-workers at the flower shop and the cozy crocheted items that one of the co-workers makes.
I thought the characters were well developed. Yes, Kat was at times really hard headed but I think that is what makes a rom-com a little drama then the ah ha moment. I was able to relate to Kat with all her flaws but at the same time her ability to know what she needs to get done to get to her goals in life. I really liked Mick, he was the fun go to guy and really lightened the book up. I was able to connect with his character and his own insecurities. However, I love that he was a little quirky and loved to have fun.
However I do have to say my favorite character would have to be Seamus the cockatoo and Jojo the hedgehog. I loved the naughty language that would come out of that bird, that is one bird after my own heart. Jojo, omg I have never wanted to have a hedgehog more than I do now. I loved that they dressed up the hedgehog and the course that Mick made for Jojo on Christmas was so cute.
Overall, this is a cute Rom Com. There is some spice but for me I would rate it at level 2.
I will definitely read more of her books to come.
I want to thank NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to review this book.
Florist Kat Kowalski is unlucky in love, always picking the jerks and the duds. After her latest relationship ends when her ex leaves the country for a job opportunity, Kat is left with only his pet hedgehog to take care of and a deep sense of failure . Determined to find “The One”, Kat and her friends decide she needs to change her strategy for finding a partner. Armed with a list of qualities her Mr. Right should possess, Kat sets out to find a boyfriend the exact opposite of the men she usually falls for. So when Kat meets scruffy, easy going Mick O’Sullivan during a flower misadventure at his family’s funeral parlor, she promptly friend zones him. But as these two friends spend more and more time together, Kat realizes how great of a guy Mick really is, complicating her love plans. Because what happens when Mr. Wrong really is Mr. Right?
Giggles, giggles, giggles. Melanie Johnson had me laughing throughout this book. From a funeral parlor meet cute to a crude, foul-mouthed cockatoo, this was a fun ride full of zany moments and unique characters. It’s a sweet slow-burn that allows the reader to watch the deep connection develop between the FMC and the MMC. An enjoyable, happy read!
The premise of this book initially reminded me of that 90’s Sandra Bullock movie, While You Were Sleeping. The idea of our heroine falling for a guy but suppressing that and trying to convince herself that his brother is actually Mr. Right really appealed to me. Sadly, the MCs didn’t do it for me. We start when Kat is recently dumped and newly the owner of a pet hedgehog named JoJo. Kat is a hot mess who I think we are suppose to sympathize with for having a string of bad relationships but honestly if she was real would be the common denominator. She is insecure and I just didn’t mesh well with her character, so I felt it hard to care about her problems. However, their “meet cute” was charming and I liked Mick’s storyline and his family conflict. I loved the initial interaction between the two and the chemistry between them when Kat was trying to relegate Mick to the friend zone. The problem is her insecurity overshadowed a lot and I lost interest in the story about half way through. It was a struggle to push on and the small things that could have been cuter, like talking birds, felt trivial and added to the chaos. It wasn’t for me. 2.5 ⭐️
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my unbiased opinion!
I absolutely adored this story!! Jojo and Seamsus were my favorite. It was the perfect read for February with its fun flower shop theme and a beautiful romance. Melonie Johnson’s writing just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to read this one!
Very cute cover that fits the story. Love that it shows JoJo the hedgehog and Seamus the cockatiel. Kat is feeling like her friends are moving on as they couple up. When she gets dumped by her latest relationship of six month she wants to try something different. Instead of falling for the same type she creates a list of for a perfect man. She most immediately meets Mick O’Sullivan who works at his family mortuary in a funny meet-cute. He is a cinnamon roll kind of guy. She feels sparks but he immediately gets moved to the friend zone
With Mick spending time with her and even acting as wing man, she turns her attention to his brother thinking he is more list material. There are some other things going on too. Kat may get the chance to purchase the floral shop she manages. And she is helping Mick work on a business plan for an idea at the mortuary. Mick has some issues going on with with his role work and old rivalries with his brother. It all gives them time to spend together.
I honestly found the first half very fun but the second half slows down for me. I thought it odd to learn so late in the story Mick’ s education and dream job. Also Kat's concerns about him at the near end angst moment is legit. And why his sister takes to the last second to intervene when she has been in the know for a month just seems to drag things further. I thought Kat’s fears were well explained and understandable for the mind someone in the twenties. There is a lot of changes going on in her life. But Mick is harder to explain. With his vocation you’d think he’d see some of his own insecurities and family dynamics. And I honestly didn’t get the appeal of the brother.
Overall a solid read that stars strong but weakens by the end. The animals are a fun addition as is the guys sister Mary-Kate. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for an ARC in exchange for a review. (3.5 Stars)
💭Thoughts:
This was a sweet, engaging rom com. I really enjoyed the commentary between Kat and Mick. I found myself rooting for them throughout the story! I know how hard it is to be the single one in a friend group. I really enjoyed the side characters and look forward to more stories from Melonie in the future!
Very cute and enjoyable romcom. For once the lead characters family members were not annoying and were instead fun and fresh. Loved the setting and the inclusion of a hedgehog.
Recommend this one to curl up with a nice hot drink and relax.

- Fine. Joe might be alright. But I say that begrudgingly
- Really. Achingly hard shaft. Really. Come on.
Literally read this in one sitting!!
The banter was amazing, i loved it so much, but the love (ish) triangle was just a no. This really gave a little of Addams family vibes (which mentioned). The 3rd POV was not my favorite, but the writing was easy to go through. The amount of times i laughed and smiled made my cheeks hurt alot. The character development was really good. Maybe the book would have been better without smut?
Thank you to netgalley and the author for an eARC
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC
I must admit that I was a little hesitant to read this one. Hedgehogs freak me out. Listen, don't judge. Anything that is a mix between cute and could physically hurt me is a nope from me. BUT I did enjoy Mack and Kat. The writing is well paced and fun. Definitely a quick and lighthearted read.
There were parts of this book that I enjoyed reading, but mainly because of the male main character. I thought that Mick was the perfect male lead and was caring, kind & understanding of Kat's needs. Kat, on the other hand, was immature and needed to grow up at times. She seemed a little self-absorbed and despite wanting someone who was different from her past exploits, she didn't realize that Mick was different from the rest, just because she was physically attracted to him.
Too Wrong to Be Right by Melonie Johnson is a friends to lovers romance novel. This story is about Kat, who works as a florist and was recently dumped by her boyfriend and left with a pet hedgehog. After being dumped, she decides to make a list to find her Mr.Right. Then she meets Mick. Mick seems like the kind of guy Kat would normally go for but due to her list she keeps her feelings tucked away and instead becomes friends with Mick. But can either of them be happy if they remain friends?
I gave this book 3/5 stars. It’s a cute quick read and really enjoyed the friends to lovers trope in this book. The characters were nice and not boring. Too Wrong to Be Right is a good book and I would recommend it to other people, however, I only gave it 3 out of 5 stars because nothing too extravagant happened but overall it was still a good read.
i just… didn’t enjoy this. tbh, i started skimming at 30%. the MC is completely unlikable and that made the whole thing a drag. she is so wrapped up in her own issues it really just makes her a crappy friend. and i couldn’t keep up with the amount of times she was just sooo aware of how perfect her body is, and ugh! she’s so tired of hearing it being complimented! and hot damn, i’ve never read a character so obsessed with themselves. she made every moment of this book about herself, which she was certainly not interesting enough to merit. i really did not feel any chemistry between the couple and would be surprised if the relationship lasted. no fun to read! blah!
This is a funny romantic and heartwarming story that will give you all the coziness that a good rom-com should! This book has everything a rom-com fan would be looking for! Slow burn, misunderstanding, angst, and lovable and laughable secondary characters! Another relationship comes to an end for Kat and she realizes that she is picking all the wrong guys! The things that attracted her to these guys are the things that make them unlikely candidates for a long term relationship. So when Kat makes her checklist of the qualities that Mr. Right should have, she'd determined to steer clear of guys that don't make the list! Besides, she has a lot going on in her life! She wants to move forward with her dream of owning her own flower shop and putting in the time to her girlfriend relationships. So when she meets brothers, Mick - instant chemistry but that's where she's always gone wrong in the past, and Joe - checks off all the boxes on her list her mind tells her which one is right for her. But her heart........
The only cons for me were a bit too much self-pity by Kat when it came to her girlfriend relationships. I understood where she was coming from, but it became a bit much at times. I wish I got to know more of her story. Mention of repeated relationship failures, but don't know much about them. Don't know anything about her parents except that they're not around. Minor things that did not have a big impact on my enjoyment of this story!
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for this arc for my review.
This book was cute but I didn’t love it. I wanted to but it took me a bit to get into then I just wanted Kat to forget about her stupid list and stop torturing Mick. The whole thing could have been resolved if they just talked to each other and while I know that’s the point, I was frustrated.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book had a really slow start, which ultimately led to me marking it as DNF after about 30%. I didn't feel the chemistry between the characters, and the humor I loved in the previous book was noticeably absent. There were some bright moments, but overall, it fell flat. The storyline itself didn't flow well, and some of the actions the characters took seemed forced to move along the plot.
Part of the issue with the missing chemistry, I believe, is that this book seemed less focused on romance plot and more about making points about irrelevant things. There was a huge amount of content around green energy, green solutions to burials, etc. While interesting, it's not something that added to the story, and every time I started to feel intrigued by the storyline, we cut to commercial about green energy. I'm serious, it was very jarring in the way it was written. A more subtle nod would have been better suited to the reading experience. I'm supportive of green energy, but I don't want to read pages about it in a romance novel.
Overall I was disappointed, which was surprising for me. I normally really like this author. I may try reading again at a later date, but for now, I couldn't push through it.
Too Wrong to Be Right had me in stitches from the first line! Between clothes for an adorable hedgehog, spicy crochet projects, a foul mouthed cockatoo and sarcastic banter I’m not sure what had me laughing more! The novel follows Kat and Mick as they navigate their futures both professionally and personally. Their worlds literally collide over a deceased body while Kat is delivering a floral arrangement to Mick’s family run funeral home and that interaction leads them to friendship, business partnerships and possibly a whole lot more!
Check out this hilarious romcom coming to shelves February 28, 2023!
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Griffin for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
I liked that this book was in 2 POVs, seeing how Kat and Mick fell for each other. The book's pacing drags in some places, but overall it's a cute romance.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy.
Hilarious right off the bat. I enjoyed every bit of this book! The characters are all very likeable and funny in their own way. I especially like Mary Kate and babica. It has a great storyline and it is very much a rom-com! It is jam packed with all the usual stuff rom-coms have but this one feels special with all the Easter egg mentions of movies that they introduce to their weekly CCC. Don’t even get me started on Jojo! Too cute for sure! Oh and can’t forget the bonus of the line that included “…… turgid rod….” Died laughing! This was an ARC and I’m voluntarily leaving this review.
