Thanks netgalley for the arc

✨Thoughts ✨
I thought this was one started off really good. I was laughing out loud, especially with Seamus…so funny. I loved the friendship and banter between these two. I thought Mick was so funny, he listened to Kat and what she wanted. I thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humor. As for Kat, I did relate to her and the whole feeling behind in life when all your friends are getting into relationships, getting married, or having kids. But, during the second half of this book when the inevitable conflict takes place…I found her a bit infuriating (See below, if you have read).
Overall, I thought it was a cute/funny read. I really enjoyed the first half, but unfortunately the second half sort of ruined this one for me.
••Spoilers Below••
✨What I didn’t like✨
•The whole I need to date Joe because he fits the Mr. Right checklist when he clearly is a kind of a dick…no
•Kat being mad that Mick didn’t fight for her when she wasn’t up front about how she really felt and made it clear she just wanted to be friends…
•The whole if he shows up to wedding it was meant to be…yet let’s not tell him the wedding his happening…I am sorry what?
* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
I wasn’t really a fan of any of the characters in this book. The author also tried to make a love triangle happen but it really didn’t work. Honestly, I didn’t sense any romantic vibes between Kat and either of the brothers. The only slight connection I felt was when Kat and Mick met. Also, the dirty talk was really cringy to read.
Wouldn’t recommend.
Too Wrong to be Right by Melonie Johnson
Contemporary romance / romcom.
Technically the second full length novel in a series although it can be read as a stand-alone. The other two friends from their Friday night get togethers show up only briefly here but are mentioned often.

When Kat gets dumped by her boyfriend, she decides she’s done following the high emotions of her past relationships. She’s going to look for a different type. Someone with characteristics she admires rather than lusts after. Pursuing a contract for the flower shop she works for, gives her the perfect opportunity to put her plan into motion. She meets Mick, and is immediately attracted to him. But he’s too much like her past. Kat decides his brother Joe would be a better fit for her future, so she puts Mick in the friend zone.
Enjoyable and entertaining. Poor Kat is envious of her two best friends and their new relationships. Getting dumped again, makes her think she wants, and can plan a different type of relationship future. And poor Mick! He’ll do whatever he thinks will make Kat happy, even if that means stepping aside. Mick was adorable and so sweet. I know he wanted the best for both Kat and his brother, but oh, it was sad watching his heart break as he stood on the sidelines.
A great cast of side characters include Mary-Kate, Laura, Ronnie, Jojo the hedgehog, Seamus the cockatoo, and the grandmothers of Kat and Mick. They all added colorful backgrounds and amusing commentary throughout the novel. I’m hoping a couple of these, including Joe, get their own hea’s soon.
I received a copy of this from NetGalley.
This is the story of Kat who’s a florist, and Mick who works at a funeral home. Hmmm… seems they might be bound to meet? Well they did.
In the beginning Kat is dumped by her boyfriend and he gives her his hedgehog… first off why is he giving her the hedgehog ? A breakup gift ? Idk. Anyways, Kat decides she is going to search for her ONE. And along the way she crosses paths with Mick. Friends to lovers. I was hoping this one would be really good as I was really into the cover and the description and at first I was really hopeful. I think where this lacked was that Kat and Mick didn’t really have any depth. Their friendship. Their relationship. I feel like it just needed MORE.
A fun romance novel with some very hilarious scenes splashed throughout (a cockatoo that hands down steals the show), Too Wrong To Be Right is a story of discovery and realizing Mr. Right isn’t a magical list of perfect qualities, attributes, and characteristics, but a real life breathing person who shows their partner what it means to be respected, cherished, and of course, loved.
Happy Reading ~ Cece
This was a cute story. I liked the flower shop and funeral home aspects. It was a little long. I felt there was a lot of unnecessary story like so much Grandma stuff and several dinners. I liked the twist that once Kat and Mick had sex, it still wasn’t right. There was more to the story.
It was mostly a cute story. Kat, the female lead struck me as flaky, and a little too self-centered, and her need for validation from men was annoying. I liked Mick and his family, with Seamus being my favorite. The book has a few laugh-out-loud moments, which kept me going.
I thought there could be more development in the backstory of Kat's family, which may have made her a more sympathetic character. There wasn't much on Mick and how he ended up in the position he was in. You know it's a family business and it was left to the three siblings, but not why he would abandon his Ph.D. program to be a filler in the funeral home.
The book wasn't a bad way to spend a few hours.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and Melonie Johnson for the eARC.
Sadly, I DNFed this book. I did not like the dialogue at all. The book didn’t grasp me at all in the beginning. I almost felt like it was a little non-realistic too. Like why would an ex-girlfriend accept a hedgehog, while someone was breaking up with her? Why would a florist place the flower on a dead corpse, that’s usually a funeral director’s job. I just sadly did not like the beginning of this book.
loved the concept for this super sweet rom com, but overall, this one didn’t really click for me. Florist Kat is done with dating the wrong guy, and after a not-so-meet-cute though with Mick O’Sullivan at his family’s funeral home, she’s determined to follow her head over her heart to find Mr. Right. But with all these chemistry, can the two really be just friends? So I wanted to like this so much. I love a good friends to lovers slow burn. But there’s just a huge lack of communication in this, and I think Kat is at the center of it. She’s feeling sad about her friends finding partners when she’s single, but she takes so long to talk to them about where she’s feeling lost, and I feel like Mick and her both didn’t get vulnerable enough with each other to get them to their happy ending. I had trouble connecting with the two as individuals and as a couple because I just wanted them to share more. They both have such complex growth in their journey and I just appreciated that that I wanted them to talk more. Their chemistry is really strong though and I loved their light-hearted banter and energy. The tone is light and the side characters are all super endearing. I loved both families and the community that built in these pages. It’s a fun read but I definitely wanted more too.
I LOVED too good to be real so I was epically excited for the latest from melonie Johnson!
Kat and Mick's meet not quite cute over a corpse in a funeral home was something else! Thus ensues a strangers to business partners to friends to lovers story amongst cheesy romcom stereotypes. There's loveable family members (grandmas, MK) and comedic pets (Jojo and Seamus!) But I have to say, both the MMC and FMC are a little clueless. Don't get me wrong they have some major chemistry but the deeper things that were inhibiting their getting together for most of the book - Mick's issues with the family business and his brother (Joe is an idiot!) And Kat's obsession with Mr. Right/feeling left behind in her friends relationships were so dramatized in a way that didn't really add to the story.
There were tons of things that I loved throughout the book - chemistry between the hero and heroine, no question, meet cutes and fun pets, the accidental snow storm sleepover and events that followed, the mention of Moose Springs (how was this not a reference to the Tourist attraction by Sarah Morgenthaler....another great read btw!), and the end grand gesture. But there were also some overdone things - when Harry met sally references, the mention of game night but the reader not getting to see game night dynamics, Joe, the woe is me attitudes. There was tons of spots to give the main characters more development but it ultimately fell a little flat in those spaces.
Overall this was a cute quick read for all romcom lovers, plenty of classic references!

Another Bummer Review. Don’t let the cute cover fool you, Too Wrong to Be Right is pretty bad. I know this is an unpopular opinion as a lot of people like the book.
I didn’t connect with Kat, the FMC. At. All. She is consumed with finding “The One,” like to the point where it’s become her whole identity. It’s not only outdated thinking it’s insulting to all women everywhere. She also treats finding true love almost as a competition with her two BFFs. She’s resentful of them, they are moving on with their lives and SO’s and she feels left behind.
Kat takes absolutely no responsibility for being the one to friend-zone Mick, the MMC. Mick is a nice guy, a good guy. He actually listens to Kat’s wants and needs. Kat expects him to be a mind reader and do the exact opposite of what she is telling him she wants. I pretty much hate her and wouldn’t be friends with her IRL. She’s too exhausting and living in the 1950s. I have no idea why Mick sticks around.
I found Kat to be selfish, self-absorbed, but not at all self-aware, and kinda toxic. The whole “I need to find ‘The One’” to be whole is annoyingly repetitive and the book could’ve easily been 100 pages shorter. The scene with the flower shop owner, Allen, and Kat regarding paint is super passive-aggressive (Kat is a florist who has dreams of owning her own shop).
Too Wrong to Be Right has a lot of potential. There are interesting secondary characters and a family backstory (Kat’s) that are underutilized and/or explored that could’ve added depth to the story. TWTBR is an uncorrected proof in which there are several places where words are missing or sentences are left unfinished, but the story isn’t really impacted by the errors. Also, the timeline is ambiguous, at times.
Unfortunately I can’t recommend Too Wrong to Be Right. It’s a giant story of my least favorite trope: not communicating/miscommunication starring a toxic martyr.
Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. Too Wrong to Be Right is available on February 28th.
It’s hard to like a book when you’re not all that interested in either main character. Kat gets dumped in the first chapter by the worst kind of guy (um, I’m moving and here’s my hedgehog), meets an adorable Mick the funeral home he runs with his family but she’s determined not to make the same mistakes again.
I enjoyed the first half of the book better then the second. Honestly, by the end I kept wondering what Mick was still doing with her.
📱Too Wrong to be Right, Melonie Johnson. Uncorrected Digital Galley ARC from NetGalley with St. Martin’s Press. Romance. Publication date February 27, 2023. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
My heart is so full. Although I was so pissed at Kat for a bit there (Kat, tell him how you feel already!), I was totally in love with all of the characters. I especially loved the relationships these characters had with their families and friends. The plot was both lovely and frustrating at the same time. Having the partnership between a funeral home and a flower shop was absolutely brilliant. The added touches of the hedgehog and cockatoo made this a unique story.
When I started reading this book, I was in a weird mental space, so it took a bit for me to get into. I truly think that was more about me than it was the book. While reading it, my 93-year-old grandmother passed away. This made reading about Babcia and Gran so much more special. I loved their relationships with their grandkids so much.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and the author, Melonie Johnson, for an opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for a honest review. This was my first book by this author and I look forward to going back and reading some of her other published works.
This one was so fun, I can't wait to read it a second time! Too Wrong to Be Right had moments that were incredibly sweet and others that made me laugh out loud. I love Kat and her list of qualities for the perfect guy, and I love Mick who might not have checked the boxes the way she envisioned but was perfect in his own right. I think I want a Mick for myself, at this point!
Thank you Melonie Johnson, St. Martins Griffin, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of TOO WRONG TO BE RIGHT!
Very cute. Definitely think I liked it better than the first book. Though I didn’t care for how long it took for Kat to get her head out of ass and realize that Mick was perfection - seemed stretched out too long. But overall, adorable.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
This is a very fast & fun read. If you enjoy romcoms, this is definitely for you. There's the "meet cute" at a casket, the supportive work friends, the supportive life friends, some supportive family (Grandma on Kat's side, everyone on Mick's), long line of bad choices in relationships, & a hedgehog. Kat knows exactly what she wants for her future & has lists to show for it. Mick is the peacemaker in the family business & doesn't know what he wants from life. Kat is put together (most of the time) & Mick doesn't care about his appearance. On paper they don't add up. Mick's older brother, Joe, fits that bill. Highly recommend reading this one to see how it plays out. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
Thanks NetGalley for the amazing opportunity!
The best way to describe this book would be ‘a cozy hug’ . That explains my love for this book. It is a cozy, easy, delightful, butterfly inducing read with perfect characters that have stunning chemistry.
This book became one of my faves and it became a comfort read for me.
Now I’m gonna make everyone around me read it as soon as it’s out haha
From the publisher (St. Martin’s Press):
After her latest jerk of a boyfriend dumps her (and ditches her with his pet hedgehog), florist Kat Kowalski is done chasing after Mr. Wrong. With her two best friends moving on to more serious relationships, she’s ready to stop repeating the same mistakes that are leaving her stuck in the single lane. Armed with a list of qualities for her perfect Mr. Right, Kat swears off dating until she finds him.
Then in a meet-disaster involving a corpse and a salty cockatoo, she stumbles across Mick O’Sullivan at his family's funeral home. Their immediate chemistry warns Kat to keep things platonic; after all, following her heart never worked out in the past, and this time she’s determined to listen to her head. But can Kat and Mick be just friends? As she gets to know him better, the lines blur, and Kat starts to wonder if she’s gotten it wrong and Mick is exactly who she’s been looking for...

My review:
Overall I enjoyed this romance. There were legitimate times I laughed out loud. Some of the secondary characters were my favorites: Mick’s sister MK, both of the grandmas, and of course Seamus the cockatoo.
The nice part about a romcom is you KNOW they will end up together. So really this is a review of the obstacles Kat and Mick faced. They seemed basically realistic: she wants Mr. Right, he wants her to realize it’s HIM, not his brother. But I got a little annoyed at Kat’s consistent ignoring of her feelings for Mick. Also a little annoying was him not speaking up for himself. So the build up was a little slow but the ending of course, was happy. Kudos to Kat’s lesson that compromise or pivoting on your dream isn’t settling or giving up. :)
Definite romance and learning to trust oneself and another. Good humor and fun banter (which I’m a fan of always!).

ARC REVIEW
This was an absolutely adorable rom-com. It’s a slow-burn, strangers to friends to lovers.
Kat is fresh out of yet another disaster relationship when she has an absolutely hilarious meet-disaster with Mick at his family’s funeral home. Though there is instant attraction, Mick seems too much like her other boyfriends so she decides they would work best as friends. Their friendship is such a wonderful journey in and of itself. They both fight so hard against the attraction but they can only take it so long. Kat and Mick are perfectly imperfect and relatable.
This is such a wonderful, feel good book with everything you could want in a rom-com, including an adorable hedgehog and a foul-mouthed bird!
