I was so excited when I received the ARC for this book! Anytime I put this book down it was all I could think about! It was such a long slow burn that had me pleading on my knees for the main characters to finally get together.
I love a book that involves a flower shop! It speaks to a little part of me that dreams about owning my own flower shop. Some people may have felt that Kat was a frustrating character but I admired her fight to have what she wanted out of life. It was maddening when Kat couldn't see how wonderful Mick was but it just added to the angst of it all. Especially after the karaoke scene at the Halloween party! I would have just gone straight to Mick and jumped right into his arms.
I felt a kindred spirit in Mick of not feeling like enough. He felt like such a warm teddy bear of a man and I just wanted to hug him so many times throughout the book. His patience and wanting Kat to be happy no matter what that meant was heartwarming. It overjoyed me to see him stand up for himself at the end with his family.
My only complaint is that I wanted more of Kat and Mick being a cute, adorable couple. I recommend this book if you want a cute angsty friends-to-lover story.

Kat is a florist with dreams of opening her own shop. With a degree in psychology, Mick isn’t quite sure where he fits in at his family’s funeral home. When the two literally collide over a casket, they form a solid friendship. Despite their mutual attraction, Kat is determined to keep it that way because, after her latest bad breakup, she has created a list that perfectly describes her “Mr Right” and, unfortunately for Mick, he doesn’t quite meet the qualifications.
It may be weird to describe a book set partially in a funeral home as fun, but this was so fun! From the “meet cute” to the banter to Kat’s adorable pet hedgehog, JoJo, this had so much to love and laugh over. I absolutely loved both Kat and Mick—they were hilarious and kept finding themselves in such absurd situations. Also, both MCs are dealing with their own set of insecurities/issues that makes them very relatable. I really loved the overall cast of characters as well—some were quirky, others eccentric—and it all made for a great story.
The only thing that really bugged me about this was the miscommunication. That is probably one of my least favorite tropes, but both characters deal with a lot of insecurity so it did make sense as to why they reacted the way they did. The ending wasn’t super realistic, but I’m all for a HEA! 4.5/5
2.5/5 - I was drawn to the book because of both the description and cover. I however found myself tired of the conflict and lack of communication half way through. We have Kat, who was dumped by her boyfriend, and decides to search for Mr. Right, instead of Mr. Right-now. She meets Mick in a funny meet cute and they seem to have instant chemistry. Kat thinks he's the type she usually goes for, and places Mick firmly in the friendzone. There is the addition of Mick's brother as the "Mr. Right" love interest that I felt fell flat, and didn't work for me.
This book had some funny moments, that did make me laugh. I liked the addition of Kat's coworkers, who were a welcome addition. I also liked Mick's family and their spicy cockatiel. I found reading about Kat's fear of the future and her future plans were real and relatable. It made sense, especially when all her friends seemed to be moving forward and she was stuck.
I think what I struggled with was that Kat and Mick talked to each other, but didn't talk about how they were feeling about things. They talked a lot about being friends, but it was really just a surface level friendship if they weren't talking about things.
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.

Unfortunately, this book was a bit of a miss for me. Kat is on the mission to find “Mr. Right”. What Kat really should’ve been doing is finding herself. I feel like we had no character development with Kat and her only character trait was being bad at picking boyfriends. Kats character felt really two dimensional to me.
Mick was a super cute love interest who was very understanding. However, I feel like a majority of his personality was changed for the third act breakup. At every turn there seemed to be some kind of miscommunication between the two of them which led me to feel very frustrated at the end.
Overall, the book had potential but I would’ve liked to have seen more character development in each of the characters, especially Kat.
Very very sweet and delightful read. This is definitely one of those easy to pick up books with a simple (not in a bad way!) plot to explore.
The highlights were definitely the chemistry between the two mains. I found their dynamic so captivating, I was constantly wanting to see where they would go next!
A super enjoyable, sweet, fun, adorable rom-com just in time for Valentine’s Day!
I thought there were enough quirky, cute, fun and swoony moments to make this a true rom com. Enjoyable and sweet!
Too Wrong To Be Right
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A huge thanks to @mel for sending me a copy of this ARC. She’s so sweet, and such a joy to chat with.
While Too Wrong To Be Right has some of the same characters, you do not need to read Too Good To Be Real first. However, I highly suggest you check that one out too if you haven’t already!
After reading Too Good To Be Real, I was stoked when Melonie told me she was working on another book with Kat’s character. I was even more stoked when she started advertising about Too Wrong To Be Right by describing the male main character as having “Nick Miller vibes”.
Kat has a history of only dating assholes, and after experiencing yet another breakup she makes a list of what would lead to her Mr. Right. Too Wrong To Be Right is a friends to lovers slow burn, with a dual POV. Here’s some things I loved:
🦔 I literally pictured Nick Miller from New Girl the entire book and let me say I am not mad about that one bit!
🦔Everyone needs a Mick in their life. I loved how much Mick respected Kat and her boundaries.
🦔Typically, I get impatient when it comes to a slow burn but this book was different. I loved Mick and Kat’s friendship and their chemistry held my attention.
🦔Mick and Kat have some self-discoveries, and I felt myself rooting for them and their professional goals.
🦔This book captures the realistic struggles Kat is facing by comparing herself to her friends and their love life. This book is a nice reminder that everyone experiences their own unique journeys.
🦔 You can easily find yourself smiling while reading whether because of the silliness of the characters and supporting characters, or because of the warmth between our two main characters.
Treat your shelves to this book when it releases on February 28, 2023. I’m ready to preorder my copy!
This one was just not for me. I just didn't really like the main characters. I found myself board. I thought the writing wasn't the best. I read a lot of romance novels and I just felt like this one could have been better.
Highlights:
funny banter
rom-com
florist meets funeral parlour
hint of space
Favourite quote: “We met over a dead body, it was definitely not a meet cute.”
I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. The story follows Kat, a young woman who, after being dumped by her latest boyfriend and left with his pet hedgehog, decides to swear off dating until she can find a man who meets her list of ideal qualities. But when she stumbles upon Mick O'Sullivan at his family's funeral home, she finds herself questioning everything she thought she wanted in a partner.
One of the things I loved most about this book was the O'Sullivan family. The author does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life, making them feel like real people with their own unique quirks and flaws. I especially enjoyed getting to know Mick, who is charming, funny, and always there to lend a listening ear to Kat. The hedgehog, too, was a delightful addition to the story, adding a touch of humor and cuteness.
The writing in this book is also noteworthy. The author has a way of crafting dialogue that is both witty and natural-sounding, making it easy to get lost in the story. And while the romance is definitely a central theme, the author also manages to inject a bit of mystery and intrigue into the plot, which kept me guessing until the very end.
The only downside for me was that I found Kat to be a bit flighty and whiney at times. But overall, Too Wrong To Be Right is a delightful read that will have you laughing, swooning, and rooting for love to conquer all. It's a perfect pick for anyone looking for a lighthearted, romantic comedy with a touch of spice.
Kat and Mick were a bit of a mess but honestly who isn’t. Overall a very enjoyable read! I have to say though Seamus stole the show and I am 100% here for it!
This is a romcom that will have you giggling from the first pages!
Too Wrong to Be Right follows Kat, a florist, who's encountered her fair share of dating fails. The most recent one includes a (now) ex-boyfriend who ran off to Canada for a reality dating show & left his pet hedgehog, JoJo, with Kat. She swears off dating until she can find a man who checks all her "Mr. Right boxes." That is, until she has a meet cute (read: meet-disaster) while dropping off flower arrangements at a funeral home. She quite literally falls into Mick's arms when he saves her from accidentally falling into a casket while placing the flower arrangements. They have immediate chemistry but she's determined to keep Mick in the friend-zone & avoid following her past mistakes. But can they only be friends? Or are they destined for more?
Overall, I really enjoyed the characters & the shenanigans they got into throughout the book! This was the first book I've ever read by Melonie Johnson & I'll be checking out more of her work! I was giggling from the very beginning and even burst out laughing at a few of the scenes. Even though it's a romcom, there are still quite a few serious scenes where Kat and Mick both work through their feelings, including past heartaches.
I do wish there had been a bit more groveling at the end, but everything is forgiven quickly in true romcom fashion. The book is written in third person, which I know is a turn-off for many readers. But once I got into the story, I didn't even realize it was written that way. I also tend to read steamy romances and this one definitely does not fall into that category. There is a single scene that ends as quickly as it started. It really had the potential but the author just didn't go there, which is totally fine! No matter what, I still really enjoyed this story & the characters! I'd love for the author to continue writing books about this group of found family so we can see all of them get their happily ever afters!
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Melonie Johnson for letting me read an early copy of Too Wrong to Be Right!
Sadly, this book didn't do it for me. I was hoping to identify with the characters more than I did, but Kat was problematic, frustrating, and honestly low key toxic. I appreciated the diversity in the cast of characters, and there were some cute moments; however, overall, this fell flat for me.
This book was so precious! I initially picked it up because the cover had a hedgehog on it. While JoJo was a delight to read about, the rest of the story was so lovely. This book has all your typical romance must haves. Friends to lovers where their families know they’re meant to be. If you’re looking for a spicy book - this may not be for you. However, I do suggest you read this book to enjoy the experience of watching these two lovely characters fall in love. Easy to read, feel good romance? Yes please!
Solid 3.5 stars but rounding up to 4. Holy insecurities. The back and forth with Kat is insane. Could’ve been so much more if we’d seen more of them navigating a relationship instead of all the miscommunication.
This was a light hearted contemporary romance with all sorts of romcom vibes.
Kat just can’t seem to find the right guy. After her last breakup she became the proud momma to a hedgehog. She is determined to find Mr Right which is the exact opposite of who she typically dates. One day work brings her to a funeral home where she meets Mick. He is great, but just like all of the others.
The relationship between Kat and Mick is adorable. I also love all of the family dynamics. I agree with other reviewers that it was frustrating neither character would just say what they were feeling. Overall a great book.
Thank for NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Too Wrong To Be Right is such a cute read. This one will have you giggling all the way through. I loved this so much. I could not put this one down. Kat is a florist who has not had the best track record when it comes to her love life. She is feeling left behind as her best friends find their love matches and are headed to another stage in their lives. Mick works in his families business funeral home. He is the overlooked brother when it comes to relationships. Mick and Kat both bring with them a colorful group of characters that will have you giggling so hard. I love their meet cute and how they form this wonderful friendship. This is that slow burn romance that you will fall hard for. Mick and Kat have such wonderful chemistry even through all their missteps. I fell hard for this one. You need to one click this one today.
Johnson does it again! This book was wonderful! I enjoyed it as much as I did the last one. The cockatoo was a great comical character, and I adored the hedgehog. The main characters had great chemistry and I loved the side characters as well. Definitely recommend this cute rom-com!
Too Wrong to Be Right was a fun read! Kat and Mick had very good chemistry, which provided an enjoyable read, but I wish she had have realized his feelings sooner (poor Mick!).
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley.
Can all breakups come with a super cute hedgehog? This book was hilarious! Like I couldn't stop laughing at how the characters interact and finally come to terms with the fact that they are falling for each other! This was such a fun romantic read. Perfect for the Valentine's season
I’ve read everything this author has written and loved it, so I was excited to dive into this one. I read romance, and rom-coms especially, for the escape it provides from the real world. Unfortunately, the real world intruded in the first few pages, and I’m done.
This comes on the heels of a few similar reading experiences. Authors and publishers really should stay in their lane and not force an ideology not pivotal to the storyline onto readers, especially when it's something controversial. In the hope of appearing inclusive they are instead running the risk of alienating a whole host of readers. Even if it's something I personally agree with, I won’t support it in romance. Aside from a preference for heat levels, a romance should be something every romance reader, from any walk of life, can enjoy.
