From meet cute, to conclusion, this romcom has all the required elements—including an adorable animal. Actually, two—a hedgehog and a potty-mouthed parrot.
Kat is working hard for her dream, supported by her very entertaining grandmother. Mick, too, has a dream, and it definitely isn’t working for the family mortuary.
I enjoyed the interaction between the two characters and how they supported each other’s career ambitions. Really loved the family interactions.
But…when Kat starts dating Mick’s brother, and he doesn’t object despite his feelings for her, because he’s determined to be the friend she needs…oof. Especially since there was a pretty spicy scene between them prior to that. That was a little difficult to take.
Overall, it was a fun, light, quick read. Not sure I’d read it again, but I don’t regret the afternoon I did spend.
I quite enjoyed the side characters, and there’s lots of snappy dialogue. And there are references to my favorite romcom movie: While You Were Sleeping.
Possible Objectionable Material:
Cursing, a couple of fairly descriptive sex scenes, innuendo, drinking, discussions of death (hey, it’s a mortuary, what do you expect?), and some difficult family dynamics.
Who Might Like This Book:
Romcom fans, especially if you like the ones with big extended families. And if you like hedgehogs, JoJo is for you!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

This one was meh for me. I didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it. It felt average. I also had a really hard time connecting with the characters. The cover is beautiful. This book has so much potential. towards the end I was struggling to finish it.
Ehhh mediocre at best. I didn’t connect with the MFC and it just went downhill from there. She always had a sob story and it just kinda irked me.
I loved the dynamics between the two main characters.I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends
Overall, I really liked this one! Kat & Mick have a meet disaster over a corpse when she's delivering flowers, which is hilarious and sets them up for some pretty solid banter & teasing & easy conversation! The insta-attraction is there, but because Kat was just dumped, she needs to just be friends with Mick. Mick respects this, but with the dual POV, it's obvious he's equally into her.
I loved watching both of them work through their feelings and figure out things in respect to each of their pasts. I loved the scenes with both the hedgehog and the swearing hilarious cockatoo. Mick's family is wonderful and so is Kat's grandma.
My biggest gripes:
- the refusal to communicate; so many things could have been solved if they just talked
- the timeline felt jumpy & rushed at the end
- I wanted more scenes with Kat's friends
Overall, I'd recommend this one!
This was a mixed bag but I didn’t love anything that was offered. Similar to most romcoms it was enjoyable but I wouldn’t revisit it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this eArc for my honest opinion.
I really wanted to like the characters in this book but honestly I found both leads kind of annoying in different ways. Despite having some cursory other plot drivers, Mick’s main motivation from the beginning appeared to be his Instalove for Kat. And for Kat, she lost me when she hooked up with Mick and then still went after his brother. To me that felt disrespectful and for what, some made up list?? I don’t understand when characters make initial judgments and then ignore all evidence that those judgments are faulty. Maybe I just have romance novel fatigue but I found myself wanting to shake and/or yell at both leads multiple times throughout the book. I’m all for messy “realistic” romances but this was not it imo.
This is the story of Kat and Mick. Kat has dated a bunch of jerks who she has lots of chemistry with, but nothing sustainable. She decides to make a list of the qualities that Mr. Right should have. Mick is on the surface everything Kat doesn't want and decides that they can only be friends. Kat at times annoyed me, because she was sticking to her guns so hard, when she had a great guy in front of her. I absolutely loved Mick! He might have seemed rough around the edges, but he was such a kind and considerate man. Throughout the book, I just wanted things to work out for Mick, because he deserved a happy ending. Overall, this book was a sweet romance that I would recommend.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.
3.5 stars
This book had great potential - if only the main character wasn't such a hot mess. Did Kat honestly not realize how Mick felt about her? Every. Single. Other. Character told her as much! I don't know why Mick stuck it out with her. I mean, she goes on dates with his brother Joe after physical/emotional intimacy with Mick? Who does that? Mick did everything she asked of him, and she was angry that he didn't go begging for her.
That said, fantastic side characters, very funny, I did love the writing style, and Seamus! I mean, he deserves 5 stars all to himself. I'd love to see a book featuring Mick's sister MK.
Potentially a 5 star book if not for my dislike of Kat.
I loved this story. It was such a quick read and the characters were fantastic. But I’m sure we all know who stole the show…. JoJo of course! What a great addition to the story line.

Laughable moments, loving family, that rom com gesture moment. This book had it all. Highly recommend picking this one up when it’s released!

🌺BOOK REVIEW 🌺
Too Wrong to Be Right by Melonie Johnson
Rating: 3 ⭐️
“After her latest jerk of a boyfriend dumps her (and ditches her with his pet hedgehog), florist Kat Kowalski is done chasing after Mr. Wrong. With her two best friends moving on to more serious relationships, she’s ready to stop repeating the same mistakes that are leaving her stuck in the single lane. Armed with a list of qualities for her perfect Mr. Right, Kat swears off dating until she finds him.
Then in a meet-disaster involving a corpse and a salty cockatoo, she stumbles across Mick O’Sullivan at his family's funeral home. Their immediate chemistry warns Kat to keep things platonic; after all, following her heart never worked out in the past, and this time she’s determined to listen to her head. But can Kat and Mick be just friends? As she gets to know him better, the lines blur, and Kat starts to wonder if she’s gotten it wrong and Mick is exactly who she’s been looking for...”
This was a cute, funny friends-to-lovers story! The humor was my favorite! I laughed out loud several times! The relationship developed in a natural way and I totally bought in to the relationship between Mick and Kat. I enjoyed that they find a way to work through their insecurities to be together.
The character development of EVERY character was A+! It’s like you could feel them coming to life on the pages. The cute pets added a dimension I did not expect.
I found the 🔥 scenes a bit awkward and forced. It’s like they came out of nowhere with no build up just to have some 🌶️ - it was abrupt and a bit off putting.
I don’t generally mention much about grammar or typos for ARCs but I have to mention that the last 1/4 of this book had so many. I’m not sure what happened there with the editing - but I do hope that is resolved in the final publishing.
Recommend if you like:
🌺 Friends-to-lovers
🌺 Slow burn
🌺 Cute pets that add to the story
🌺 Lots of rom-com references

Cute, but this book fell a little flat for me. Literally ALL of the characters were great. I would like to see another book in the world. Mostly because I want Joe to have his happy ever after. Kat is sweet. I do enjoy how thoughtful she is, but she counteracts that when it comes to Mick, and it’s frustrating. Mick on the other hand is ohhhh so sweet, So sweet, he is walked over too much. The chemistry is there, however, the road they take to get to the end does not make 100% sense.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press, St. Martin's Griffin and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC
When Kat finds herself dumped and stuck with a hedgehog, she is serious about trying to find Mr. Right and not date the same guys that she normally would go after. Working as a florist, she sees lots of love stories unfold, just not her own. When she has to go to a funeral home to fill an order, she bumps into Mick, literally, and immediately likes him, but she thinks he is too similar to her usual. They become friends and he even is willing to be her wingman to find Mr. Right. I love how he supported her even though he knew he wanted her, he just couldn't admit it to anyone else. Their relationship is definitely friends to lovers and I loved how they built that trust over time. The parrot gave a good laugh throughout the book as well.
This slow burn was fun to read with some interesting characters, but I found myself a little bored of the characters and the plot at some points.
Although there was chemistry between Kat and Mick, I did love the time it took for them to actually get together. I also really liked how quirky Kat was and the introspection we got about her feelings with her future. The dual POV was super nice as I loved hearing Mick's side of the story and his feelings for Kat.
This book was hilarious and cute, but definitely was lacking in a few spots that lost me.
3.5 rounded up to 4.
Let's start off by saying I didn't really connect with the main female character, she's flighty, insecure and always has a sob story about not being able to keep a boyfriend.
Rom Coms are supposed to be light reads for when you want to read something light and not really have to think about it.
Not so in this one, there is a lot going on. Our mfc gets dumped right at the beginning of the book but he dumps his hedgehog on her too. The hedgehog is a positive in the book, he's a cute addition.
She meets a new guy but has sworn off men for now she wants him to be her wingman and nothing more. With more than casual glances and witty and flirty banter it doesn't stay casual for long.
I didn't really connect with the mmc either he's sort of a pushover and goes along with whatever she says. When the mfc checks her list of male qualifications for a boyfriend and thinks she may have hit it off with his brother and spends time with him he doesn't step in to stop it or say she is his.
A cussing bird that has no problem insulting everyone adds flavor to the story.
I think the book has filler and could have done with about 100 pages less as parts of it do drag. I also thought we would spend a lot of time in the floral shop out mfc works in but barely anything.

I'll give you three words: swoony, adorable and hilarious!
Two Wrong to Be Right was definitely all those things, as well as being a light and easy read!
I really loved the female cast of characters in this book, particularly the FMC, who was really relatable. I also have a soft spot for the MMC's sister (actually hoping she gets her own book!).
The attraction between the two main characters was off the charts and their banter was PER-fect! I love me some good sarcastic dialogues!
I wasn't the biggest fan of the older brother plotline (trying to keep this spoiler-free) but it didn't end up being a big issue for me, with how it was handled in the end.
TWTBR is a stranger-to-friends-to-lovers well worth the read and perfect for those who believe in finding their happily ever after- and reaching for it!
3.5⭐️
A hedgehog, naughty bird, cozy cocks and a funeral home…Enough said to get pulled in!
Kat sometimes annoyed me and don’t get me started on the miscommunication issues. But I would love to go to an O’Sullivan family event!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I find it impossible not to like the characters in Melanie's stories and I just love the way she includes animals and birds in her stories. My heart belongs to Seamus!
There were parts of the story I felt didn't quite click, but overall I enjoyed reading Too Wrong To Be Right.
Some parts were really sweet and some was really funny. And other parts I felt tugging on my heartstrings.
Kat feels like she’s being left behind. Her two besties have solid love relationships and her latest trainwreck of a boyfriend just dumped her and left his hedgehog. Things need to change, and she decides to follow her head and not her heart in the future. She tries to ignore the immediate chemistry she feels with funeral homeowner, Mick O’Sullivan. Maybe they can be just friends?
The chemistry is there with these two. Loved the precocious cockatoo. What I didn’t love: Kat’s neediness and the lack of communication between her and Mick. Especially from the guy with a master’s degree in psychology. I did enjoy this book, though and rated it 3.5/5 stars.

Meh…this book was disappointing. It started off kind of boring- the fmc is so gorgeous that she immediately attracts the attention of the smirking, winking mmc. It takes most of the book before I care at all about their relationship. Mostly, it just doesn’t make sense that she wouldn’t decide to date the mmc earlier on. She’s trying not to date jerks anymore, but it’s clear early on that he’s not a jerk. The book tries to repeatedly insist that they are friends, very good friends, but this is never the case. They spend very limited time together and it’s obvious they are interested in each other. The mmc is definitely only spending time with her because she’s beautiful. The main characters finally get together then have in inane, toxic fight out of nowhere.
I preferred many of the side characters, Mary-Kate and even Joe. I actually feel like I’ll strongly prefer Joe’s character as the mmc of a romance. I read the book featuring Julia and Luke and gave that one 3.5 stars, but this one was just rough.
