This one was a reminder that sometimes the guy that you think is Mr. Wrong might actually turn out to be Mr. Right.

Cute, but fell a little flat for me.

The characters are great. Literally ALL of the characters. I would like to see another book in the world. Mostly because I want Joe to have his happy ever after. <3

Kat is sweet. I do enjoy how thoughtful she is, but she counteracts that when it comes to Mick, and it’s frustrating. Mick on the other hand is ohhhh so sweet, So sweet, he is walked over too much.

The chemistry is there, however, the road they take to get to the end does not make 100% sense.

Thank you NetGalley and Melonie Johnson for the chance to read this book!!! All thoughts are completely my own.

I have never been more frustrated with two main characters than I was with Kat and Mick. I wanted to shake them and tell them they were idiots. And honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Their chemistry was beautiful and so evident that if they were real, the sexual tension could but cut by a knife. It wasn’t just the witty banter that did it for me either, it was the loving friends and family, hilarious inner thoughts, and Jojo the hedgehog that really earned this book 4 stars.
If you enjoy the torture of watching two idiots fumbling their way into love, this is a must read.

This was a super cute, and I did enjoy it! I thought the characters were relatable, and it was a light hearted read that one could resonate with. The story had so much potential, and I was super excited to read it but it took me a lot longer to get into than I thought it was going to. The second half of the book was great! I absolutely loved Kat and Mick and the friends to lovers trope, but I felt like the first half held a lot of fluff. With that being said, without that, you don’t get the full feel of the characters and aren’t able to watch them grow.

I received an ARC of this book as a gift from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Oh where to start… This is a well written, funny, awkward and chaotic book, but if you love characters that feel like you’re getting to know (or judge) a real person this is a great book. It took me 3 weeks to pick this book up after about the first 5-6 chapters but once I did I blew through the rest.

At the beginning of this book Kat is one of those girls that she’s hard to love because you don’t really know her. You judge her personality and choices harshly, but once you get to know her you really grow a soft spot for her, or at least I did.

Mick on the other hand was lovable from the start and was what helped me keep reading this book. I’m also hoping some people in his family are in the next book! And as an added bonus like my reviews before this, I LOVE when animals with personalities are written into a story!!

A fun, light-hearted read that kept me (overall) entertained from beginning to end . I loved the story line, the close knit family atmosphere, and the universe the author created; however, I felt that the dialogue was on the cheesier side and the characters needed a bit more development and depth . A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars! Thank you @thewritinglush , @stmartinspress & @netgalley for the opportunity to enjoy this work of fiction. @thewritinglush is a new (to me) author & I was not disappointed!

This was a cute rom-com among all of the other cute rom-coms. I loved the diverse representation in this one. Mick O'Sullivan was an adorable love interest/main character and I appreciated that Kat was not obnoxious, even if she was sometimes a little clueless in her pursuit of finding Not Mr. Wrong. The writing was easy to read and there were some laugh-out-loud moments. It didn't set itself apart from other books but I also wasn't bored when I was reading it, so I gave it four stars.

2.5/5 stars for me!

This story had really good potential, but fell short for me. The pacing felt weird the entire way through.... It was a slow-burn with a really abrupt switch from friends to lovers that felt a little exploitative given the situation (won't drop spoilers but if you read this, you'll see what I mean!) I wish the love triangle-ish situation between Kat, Mick, and Joe was explored a bit more. The third-act-"breakup" felt, again, really abrupt and disappointing.

I'm disappointed that this book wasn't as good as I expected after hearing positive reviews of Melonie Johnson's other works. I'll definitely check out another one of her books, but I wouldn't recommend reading this one if you don't have patience to get through the clunky storytelling.

Thanks a bunch to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest review!

Too Wrong To Be Right was a cute and quirky read! I liked Kat and Mick’s chemistry and the back and forth between them. While I enjoyed this book, I did feel like there was a lot going on at times, and it took away from the story.

Meh. The only thing interesting about the characters were their jobs, which tells you everything you need to know.

This one is adorable. I have a high high suspicion that it will go viral in the book tube/book tok community

She’s a 10 but she makes very poor decisions! Yes, ladies and gentleman, THIS IS KAT, our heroine. I wanted to scream multiple times into the book for her to wake up and smell the coffee… she was oblivious to what was right in front of her!

This is my first book by Johnson and I enjoyed her writing style, humor, and overall story. I do feel that Kat’s fears surrounding the future were relatable for many - her friends were getting engaged, married, or already had kids and she felt as though she was falling behind. Mick, our male main character was just so kind, patient, and understanding - he was the perfect guy! (that put up with a lot of Kat’s poor decisions!)

I recommend this book if you enjoy:

- Strangers to friends, then friends to lovers tropes
- Open door romances (A few scenes)
- Instant chemistry
- Humorous beginnings (Hint: The meet cute involves a casket!)
- Heroines making poor decisions
- Flower shops and funeral home settings
- A swearing parrot
- A cute little hedgehog dressed in clothes
- Cute book covers (of course!)

I'm very concerned about these characters going forward. It seems that both of them needed to be in therapy instead of trying to create an HEA. The thought that they will go on living a happy life is not what I was left with at the end of the book. In the Author notes, a friend was thanked for proofreading and editing. I know this is an ARC, but there were alot of serious flubs in the editing, IF any was done.

My very first Melanie Johnson book😍
Can't wait to read more books by the author.
Too Wrong to be Right is fun, hilarious & adorable.
Kat and Mick had a disastrous first meeting and Kat is sure Mick doesn't fit to her list of Mr. Right, despite their sizzling chemistry.

Too Wrong to be Right comes out on Feb 28 2023!
TYSM St. Martin's Press, Melanie Johnson & netgalley for the advanced copy.

I received this ARC of Melonie Johnson’s newest book and I definitely enjoyed MOST of the book. I love dual POV romance novels and slow burns, which this book definitely delivered. I was really optimistic because the story sounded like it had real
potential, but I do think that the execution fell a little short of my expectations. I feel like it was obvious from the first day that Mick was right for Kat, she just continually kept ignoring him because she was attracted to him? Like she was actually seeking out someone who she wasn’t attracted to… idk it just didn’t make sense to me and was super frustrating at times to read. I also felt like when the MCs finally did get together, the falling in love was really rushed. I wish those deeper feelings had been built up more during the meat of the book instead of just the physical attraction. I also think the break up/make up was really rushed and the story lacked those sappy reconciliation scenes most romances have. I liked the characters and I appreciated how Kat was trying to break away from being sexualized by men and vocalized her discomfort at only having her looks acknowledged. Overall there were parts of this book I really liked and parts that I felt were underdeveloped and rushed. It was a good first impression for the author and I’ll definitely give more of her books a try.

So Kat gets dumped again and vows to not fall in with the wrong guy again. Her ex was a real peach dropping off his hedgehog before dumping her. I knew I was in a little bit of trouble with this book when I found myself looking forward to the parts about JoJo the hedgehog and Seamus the salty Cockatoo.

Mick did seem right off to be different from Kay’s other guys - he treated her right and while he was attracted to her he considered her situation. I was annoyed she didn’t recognize what she had in Mick in a timely manner. Mick understood her and he might have won a few points with me if he were a little more aggressive.

So the book was okay, but one that I read over several days rather than feeling compelled to stay up late to finish it.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy upon which I am basing my voluntary review.

I loved this! It is a slow burn friends to lovers with all the tension and chemistry you expect from a great slow burn rom-com. The meet-cute is unforgettable and probably raknes up in the top 2 meet-cutes I've read. This book is perfect!! I just reviewed Too Wrong to Be Right by Melonie Johnson. #NetGalley

This book was absolutely adorable and had me swooning more than a few times! I loved both Kat and Mick's characters so much and their story was so cute. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars is that the pacing was off at times and the last few chapters were dragging. Other than that, I loved it!

Thank you to NetGalley & Melonie Johnson for providing this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was truly a lighthearted and fun read. Also the cover is adorable! I did have trouble connecting with Kat, which honestly affected my opinion as I was reading the entire story. Besides that I truly did enjoy the silly and funny moments as well.

4.5 ⭐️
Kat feels left behind as her friends are moving on in their lives, she decides she will no longer be going to repeat her previous cycle of bad relationships. With her friends, she decides to make a list of the qualities of her "Mr. Right" and won't settle for anything less.

It was friends to lovers done in a GREAT way. This trope can be difficult to read as it can feel whiny to me, but that was never the case with Too Wrong To Be Right. I loved that it felt natural and how Kat second-guessed herself just like someone would after so many bad attempts at love. The drop of 1990s and 2000s mainstream media was there in multiple movie references and quotes which I enjoyed. Kat was written as the friend we all had at some point in time, you either love her or can't stand the brash personality and "all about me" attitude she has.

My favorite was Kat getting called on her bull. Don't say you need "..." and then get mad when the man listens. It's not that he wasn't fighting for you, he was respecting what you said.

I loved the silly pets that actually had an impact on the story and were referenced throughout rather than a brief mention never to be seen again. The fact that both Mick and Kat had strong relationships with their grandmothers was endearing and felt genuine as these women were referenced throughout the story.

For so much talk of this "list," my biggest complaint was as a reader the list was never defined and left very arbitrary. What did Mick have or not have?
Overall, a great read with some fun takes on classic tropes.
