I enjoy an unlikable character. They're totally fine in my book - except in genre romance. We all read for different reasons, and for me a romance book is a place to escape for a few hours. I'm not trying to get relationship advice or social commentary - all I want is a happy ending, some romantic angst, and witty banter.

So when I realized in the first few chapters that I disliked the two main leads in Too Wrong to Be Right, I knew it would be a painful push to finish this book. Too Wrong to Be Right quickly introduces us to our main female lead, who after a cheesy opening break-up scene has compiled a list of her desired traits for a Mr. Right. Even after meeting a healthy and respectful man, she chooses to ignore all positive flags and instead date his older brother. There's a lot of contrived situations and poor jokes sprinkled throughout, and even though I was a fan of the male lead at the beginning, I quickly grew tired of his pathetic infatuation with somebody that obviously needs to figure her life out. Is there a talking parrot and a hedgehog? Sure, but that doesn't make up for a bad plot.

Surprisingly, this is the second romance I've recently read that takes place at a funeral home. Besides for this quirky distinction, Too Wrong to Be Right doesn't have a lot else working for it and I would have DNF-ed if I hadn't received this ARC.

I voluntarily obtained a digital version of this book free from Netgalley and St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading rom coms. This was my first Melonie Johnson and I’m ready to read her backlist now! I found Too Wrong to Be Right to be such a fun, light hearted read.

What I loved:

- Dual POV, friends to lovers
- I feel like sometimes rom coms can get repetitive, but Melonie has a pretty unique plot here
- The banter between Kat and Mick was so fun
- I really enjoyed Melonie’s writing style. Particularly, I thought the characters were well written and had great personalities, including the side characters.

What I didn’t:

- I wasn’t a huge fan of Kat’s internal dialogues. I know they add more insight into Kat but they also detracted a bit from my enjoyment of her as a main character.

All in all, I found Too Wrong to Be Right to be a warm, enjoyable, rom com. I’d recommend it to any rom com lover!

Thanks so much to NetGalley, Melonie Johnson and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this ARC!

Rom-Com readers will love this book!

I, however, am a Romantasy reader, but I won't hold that against it.

For a fun light read, it was good!

The main character, Kat, was a bit annoying, but she just got out of a terrible relationship, so...it's to be expected.

Her ex boyfriend was a whole jerk, and saddled her with a pet, to boot!

I am actually an animal person so, I wouldn't have minded an additional pet...but how it was done!?

As Kat's other friends move further along in their relationships, she meets a new potential guy, called Mick... over a dead body... which was different.

Not my ideal way to meet a potential love interest, even in a book, but it made it unique??

All in all, this would be a nice book to read curled up with some blankets and a nice... few glasses of wine. ;)

My reviews are illustrated with GIFs, so check out my Goodreads for the full effect ;)

Thank you for the ARC Net Galley and St. Martin's Press!

Funny and very enjoyable book. Kat is mired in the pursuit of finding Mr. Right as described by her list of requirements. Mick is a goner for Kat but she only wants to be friends even though their chemistry is off the charts. The question becomes will Kat figure it out or will Mick walk away.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I was originally pulled in but I lost interest going back and forth between characters.

This was my first Melonie Johnson book and I look forward to check I out her backlist. This very cute rom-com is about a florist who is dumped, acquires a hedgehog and has a meet cute over of coffin. I really enjoyed the characters of this book which was the major strength. They were quirky but relatable. The main weakness is the third act conflict, which felt predict and a touch forced. I would still recommend this for lovers of rom-coms who want a quick heartwarming read. 4⭐️

I am not usually a slow burn girly, but when they are well done, I can handle it. This book was deliciously slow and had me dying to get to the HEA! I absolutely loved it.

This started off great but dragged on and then just got irritating. Kat seemed down right hysterical in the end. I liked Mick (and really enjoyed his family’s funeral home business) but I lost respect for him in the end. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC

A big thank you to Melonie Johnson, St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for an eARc in exchange for an honest review. too Wrong to Be Right comes out February 28, 2023.

To Wrong to Be Right is a funny, delightful and charming friends-to-lovers novel abo a girl trying to find Mr. Right and a man trying to find his place in the family business. After a string of short relationships with mediocre men Kat decides, she is going to stopping looking for men hat are her type and instead go for the exact opposite. he night she decides she is going to do this she meets Mick, a man who is trying to figure out how to contribute to the family funeral home business. Even though Kat is attracted to Mick she in the name of finding Mr. Right decides she is going to be friends only with Mick. Over the course of business proposals, 2 quirky pets, a couple of funerals and the holidays Kat starts to see that Mick just might be her the man she has been searching for.

I thought this was a really cute, funny and romantic story. I though Kat was a strong female lead, and Mick was a cinnamon roll of a male lead. You can really feel their chemistry while they were with each other, and I thought they were so supportive of each other's goals. They side characters were funny, supportive and gives the book a slight found family theme. There is a love triangle in the novel and due to the person that was picked to be Micks foil I do have to say it was a little frustrating, in the end I think that the issue is resolved in a perfect way. If you pick up Too Wrong to Be Right, I hope you enjoy as much as I did!

Such a charming and lighthearted novel. Kat and Mick had such good chemistry and their dialogue was hilarious. I didn't quite enjoy the swapping between brothers and Kat's self destruction towards the end, but all-in-all, a great read!

3.5 stars for this cute rom-com! The first third of this book started off SO strong -- I was immediately drawn into Kat & Mick's fun banter and budding friendship. Both had dreams of expanding their respective businesses as a florist and a funeral home owner and supported each other in life and in business. I was smiling so much my cheeks started to hurt. But after a great start, the remainder of the book started to drag as neither one could be honest about their real feelings towards one another. Both continued to get stuck in their own heads and couldn't get out of their own damn way.

This was a sweet read but could have been quicker, in my opinion! The ultimate resolution took f o r e v e r.

Jojo the hedgehog was an amazing bonus character.

Well… I know I just posted about starting this book but I’ve already finished it! I think it may be on of my favorite contemporary romance books of the year (and it haven’t even come out yet…so I guess it’s my favorite contemporary romance as of 02/28/23!!!🤩) There is just SO much characterization that you grow to love the characters so quickly!!! They all have different aspects of their personalities and lives that make them more 3D characters! I read this book like I was breathing air!!! I couldn’t put it down! Let’s just say… I enjoyed this book so much that I literally had a dream about me playing a rhyming game and responding to something with the word “cockatoo” (shoutout to Seamus…iykyk😉). If there’s one thing I can do, it’s definitely not wait for this book to come out in February!!!🥳🥳
Thank you to Melonie Johnson and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this book before it’s released!!!🥰💖-M💛 #2wrong2bright #bookstagram #books #romance #romcom #romcombooks #arc #arcreader #meloniejohnson #2brothers #netgalley

Too Wrong to Be Right is a warm and wacky story that follows Kat Kowalski, an aspiring flower shop owner, as she makes a list of qualities she hopes to find in a potential Mr. Right after a recent breakup. On the same day her relationship ends, she acquires a pet hedgehog and meets Mick O'Sullivan, a lovable weirdo that runs his family's funeral business with his siblings. Following their unconventional meet-cute, the two form a fast friendship and I truly could not get enough of them.

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martins press for this eARC.

I did not love this one. Kat was annoying and blind and for someone so smart- she’s kind of dumb.

Since I finished it, without throwing my kindle or phone across the room, I will award it 2 stars.

First of all- this cover… SO CUTE

I really liked this book. It had a lot of little details and quirks, the characters were really lovable and relatable, & the slow burn was super rewarding/satisfying. I will say, I was a little bugged that Kat was so oblivious to Mick’s feelings, even though they were pretty obvious. The breakup at the beginning was kinda anticlimactic as well. But, otherwise, I thought it came across charming and light! :)

This is the second book in a row where I've read about the woman having these preconceived notions that the man is all wrong for her, even after they have proven time and time again to be reliable, loyal, attentive, and of course, attractive to her. And then, the book takes than 70% to get them to finally realize that maybe they should give it a try. Because of this, the book dragged somewhat.

The good- it was a funny meet cute and overall, I liked the extensive set of characters, including the family and the friends. Mick was sweet but the underlying premise is that he didn't think he was good enough for Kat. Kat spent most of the book upset that her friends were moving on and she didn't have anyone and yet, decided that she had a perfect list of attributes to make the perfect man who was, wait for it, Mick's brother. It was maddening! That said, all the characters were generally sweet, the book had some amusing parts and I enjoyed the family get togethers. Thanks to NetGalley for an early read.

Their relationship is as exciting as a funeral home. Which is ironic because that's where they met.

I LIKED:
-The old people were adorable.
-The hedgehog was my favorite and I wanted more of JoJo.
-The plot was unique enough and started strong.
-The first 20% was fun and entertaining

DIDN’T LIKE:
-50% in and we're just going around in circles.
She wants a man who matches her list.
she sees a man who fits what she wants.
She rejects the man.
She's openly flirts with his brother.
The potty mouth parrot shows up.
And repeat.

-WHY does everyone have to swear so much. It got old.
-60% in and we get our first kiss. It was awkward/steamy/weird.
-For a girl who has a business degree, she's stupid.
-The miscommunication trope showed up in the end

“There's a vibe between us.” ....... How romantic gen z.
"You have nice hands… I like your hands.," …….. The better to strangle you with my dear.

-He does some pretty explicit things to her and then she’s like, “I’m gonna flirt with his brother.”
-The 3rd act breakup was lame.
-The makeup se* was awkward. WHO talks about grandma in the middle of seggsy time??

I’m over it. Read it or don’t. I no longer care.

I found the MFC not to be simply unlikeable but downright toxic. I couldn’t get into this book due to this.

This one didn’t work for me.

This was my first Melonie Johnson book and I am kind of bummed that it is my first. I should have been reading these long before this one. It's a feel good rom com that is just what the doctor ordered if you want something light to read in between books.

Kat, a flower shop manager, has a horrible habit of picking all the wrong men to be in her life while she attempts to catch up with the lives she is watching her best friends live. After her latest horrid boyfriend dumps her, leaves the country, and leaves his hedgehog, she is determined to change her ways. After a disastrous flower delivery, where she meets a cute man, Kat and her best friends make a list of everything she needs in her Mr. Right.

Cute guy from the funeral home ends up becoming her friend which is everything Kat needs to get through this search for the perfect guy. Will they become more than friends? Or will she fall for his put together brother?

This story goes through ups, downs, sideways, and more as they both navigate where their lives are going to go. I would definitely recommend this book if you want to grab a mug of coffee (or hot chocolate whatever your go to is) curl up in a comfy chair with a blanket and read this story of how to find Mr. Right after a whole lot of Mr. Wrongs.
