Delightful picture book, showing Elephant moving around with their green umbrella, encountering all sorts of animals who think the umbrella is theirs, with very different uses.

Beautiful, cute art.

"The Green Umbrella", by Jackie Azúa Kramer, is a children's book about friendship, sharing, and learning to see things through other's perspectives.

The story follows an elephant proudly walking around with a green umbrella in the rain. On the way, the elephant meets other animals that claim the umbrella as their own, and have stories of the umbrella serving other purposes, like a boat, or a tent. The animals learn to share the green umbrella, and accept that the same thing can be specials to others in different ways.

The illustrations by Maral Sassouni are very cute and pair well with the story. I read this book multiple times with my four year old, who enjoyed it a lot and requested it for a while. I would recommend this book for children from preschool to maybe 2nd grade. It's a great conversation starter about different perspectives and it's a cute read overall.

This sweet story about an elephant and his umbrella, who is claimed by all types of other characters who recognize the umbrella as their boat, cane etc. is a great way to show children the wonderful part of friendship, sharing and imagination. The illustrations were lovely, detailed and vivid.

This is a wonderful picture book that engages imagination. Elephant has a green umbrella that he is using to keep dry. As he travels, he meets other animals that claim the green umbrella belongs to them. It is hedgehog's boat, cat's tent, bear's flying device and so on. When the animals decide to share the umbrella and tell each other their adventures, even more imagination abounds. The illustrations are absolutely delightful, with a lot of colour and detail. This would be a great read aloud for young children as well as an independent read for children a little older. This could be used as an introduction to lessons on imagination, inventions etc. This will be a favourite in primary classrooms and family libraries. My grandchildren enjoyed this one and even added their own ideas to what the umbrella could be which was fun.

Thanks NetGalley for the preview!

This book was adorable! Very imaginative how each animal had their use for the umbrella, and cute how they reunited at the end to go on adventures together. The illustrations were nice as well!

Quirky little story, showing the benefits of friendship, and adaptability and imagination. An elephant is strolling along in the rain with his green umbrella, when a passing hedgehog says the item is actually his explorer's boat – then a cat claims to have camped under it, a bear says it's part of his flying machine, and so on. They all buddy up over – well, under really – the same umbrella, and the decent artwork joins the obvious pattern of the narrative to make this a pleasant read. In fact I am sure it could have come out in paperback before now – five years to give us a second chance to buy is almost doing this a disservice.

Such a cute little story for all ages. My little reader thought it was fun to see the different ways each character used the green umbrella while my big reader found it important to see the way the friendship between characters unfolded without compromising. It is a beautifully layered story with big creativity and lovely illustrations.

A wonderful book about how several different animals use an umbrella. Each one thinks of the green item differently: as a tent, boat, cane, etc. They show each other how it can be used. The elephant always offers shelter from the rain of sun using the umbrella overhead. The story is interesting, fun and educational. It encourages children to think of ways common items might be used differently. The illustrations are entertaining, cute, fun and colorful. A good buy.

This little green umbrella went on an adventure. My kids loved finding it on every page to see where it ended up next as the story went along. This is such an imaginative book and great for those with budding imaginations of their own. Illustrations were beautiful.

I wanted to like this more. It is very ‘whose line is it anyways’ improv game where everyone looks at an object and tries to figure out how to use it/ what it could be.

I could see this being a good perspective convo starter text for the classroom.

The story was missing an element besides all the animals saying they used the umbrella for different things.. it was missing some soul to the characters or excitement in the plot. But. The ending page was cute and the perspective use makes it alright.

What an unexpected adventure! This book was so much fun. I loved how there are so many wonderful ways this green umbrella can transform. It was very vital for so many different animals in the coolest way. I love how they all end up banding together. Great imagination in this book!

I loved how the friendships formed and sharing occurs. It is such a feel good book. It was simple enough for my three year old to figure out and he loved this one. The different animals was a great touch. The art and illustrations inside were very beautiful too. I think this is a great book for story time or preschool!

Overall, Oliver and I really loved this one. I’m definitely going to be buying this one for his personal library. I highly recommend this one!!

I absolutely adored this one, and it's one of my favorite children's books to come out this year. I am partial to elephants, but the illustrations were absolutely precious, and the various animals, from hedgehog, to rabbit, etc. almost made this one feel Winnie the Pooh-esque, with a group of friends and their wild stories, all joined together by one commonality: that one green umbrella. I would recommend this little joy to anyone!

A fun-filled story of kindness, friendship and a green umbrella that makes it all possible. A great story for igniting kids imaginations and getting them to think creatively about everyday objects. Colorful illustrations help young readers understand the story. Best for read-aloud or readers aged 6-7.

The Green Umbrella is an imaginative and sweet story. Beautifully illustrated, Elephant's umbrella seems to have had quite the adventurous history.
My six year old sums up the story the best with, "that was a really great story." I have to agree.
