Description
Elephant is enjoying a peaceful walk with his green umbrella, when suddenly a Hedgehog says: I believe you have my boat. Elephant listens patiently as Hedgehog insists: I crossed deep oceans . . . tasted the salty spray of whales [in that umbrella-boat]. Cat, Bear, and Rabbit soon interrupt Elephant—each claiming that his umbrella is really their tent, flying machine, and cane. Elephant is flabbergasted—after all, it’s an umbrella, and it certainly hasn’t been on any adventures more exciting than a walk in the rain. Or has it?
Jackie Azúa Kramer and illustrator Maral Sassouni have created a gem in this fun read-aloud!

‘The Green Umbrella’ follows an elephant that keeps being told his umbrella was once something else used by animals he comes across in the story. The book reflects the power of imagination, as well as the importance of sharing. This story allows for a good guide to show children the importance of sharing and making friends.
A sweet story geared toward preschool children about imagination. Repetition with the animals that Elephant encounters along his walk is welcomed by this age group. I enjoyed the illustrations and that they all had a different experience with the umbrella. Will encourage children to engage in make-believe and have adventures of their own.
