The words you need at the moments you need them most. I love this collection. There is something for everyone to connect with. If you are looking for a poetry collection that will resonate strongly, this is it.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for a gifted copy.
I’m always game for a good book of poetry, especially when it conveys themes of self-help and empowerment. With each turning page, this is what we, as the reader, are granted and I am so appreciative of this reprieve in between the gruesome thrillers and horror flicks I am known to consume.
I really enjoyed this poetry collection! The words are beautiful and inspiring and I’m sure I’ll go back to them in the future. We could all use a little more self-love inspiration! I especially liked the narration; Melody Godfred’s voice is so warm and soothing and it was the perfect way to listen to these words.
I love the concept of writing each poem in two ways – one for “thinkers” and one for “feelers” – but this format didn’t really translate to the audiobook. I couldn’t tell which poems were supposed to go together and which one was left brain or right brain. I think this is a collection that would benefit from having a physical copy in conjunction with listening to the audio in order to get the full impact.
Thank you Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Self Love Poetry: For Thinkers & Feelers by Melody Godfred is a poetry collection with a theme of self-love. The poems themselves are very simplistic and the collection could be gotten through in a relatively short time.
In my honest opinion, the collection came off a bit too simplistic. It felt more like a collection of affirmations. Some pieces were repetitive in such a way that it actually made those poems a bit tedious and stressful to read.
That all said, the collection's content is great to help boost self-confidence. It is heart-warming and wholesome.
I love this audiobook it truly helped to realize my worth and know that the only love that matters is self love first and foremost and it showed me how to get to where I need to be to love myself and I would like to thank NetGalley , and Andrew McMeel publishing for this E-arc of Self Love Poetry
This is a collection about self love and self care. All of the poems in this collection revolve around that concept. Half of the poems are designed to appeal more to a person’s intellectual side and the other half are designed to appeal to a persons emotional side.
This is the second collection that I have read from the author and I have to say that I liked this a lot more than I liked the first. This had more gut punch poems. It affected me more than the previous work. I can tell that the author is far more invested in this topic. It really comes across in the works included.
That being said I don’t think that applies to some of the poems. Some of the poems included ride a very fine line between motivation and toxic positivity. Thinking happy thoughts isn’t going to cure your depression.
I listened to the audiobook of this and I really liked the experience. The author narrates it themselves and they put a lot of emotion behind the lines. Several poems are repeated at the end of the work with music added and I think that really added to them and made it more of an emotional experience. My one complaint about the audiobook is there are several long sections of dead air (at several points I thought my audio arc had bugged). These need to be severely cut down.
Overall like I said I liked this more than the previous work I read from the author. The audiobook was good but from what I gathered from the introduction this book has a specific layout and you lose that with the audio so I think I would recommend reading this physically if you can. I recommend this for poetry and self help fans of all ages (Rating is 3.5 stars but rounding down since Goodreads doesn’t allow half star ratings.
A solid 4 star read! This gave me very similar vibes to authors like Amanda Lovelace and Matt Haig. This felt like a quick hug or hand squeeze to let you know things will be okay. While the writing wasn't revolutionary, there were some wonderful reminders and standout quotes. I appreciated that there were some meditations at the end of the audiobook. Definitely will recommend this book to my friends.
A huge thanks to Andrews McMeel Audio for my complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
Oh my goodness self love poetry was exactly what my soul needed in this season. I cried, hugged myself, laughed out loud and nodded as the author read. It was the perfect blend of healing, nourishment and affirmation regardless of the season you find yourself in. The audiobook was perfect, the narrator incredible and the contents incredible. Recommend it!
I received a free audio copy of this book in exchange for a an honest review.
I love listening to poets read their own work. There is a big visual component to her work that is maybe lost in audio format, but then I also feel like I gained something entirely different by listening to her reading her work.
Deeply touching and I’m so grateful to have come across this work. Even if you’re not a “poetry person,” that’s ok. Go ahead anyways. Read/listen to it. This book of poetry- it felt like a motivational prayer to love yourself, a gentle reminder. Moving and beautiful and I think there is something for everyone to relate to. It’s very accessible (not all poetry is)
I really enjoyed the right/left brain element. This was a lightweight and encouraging collection of poems. Recommended for readers of AFTER THE RAIN and the like.
'Self Love Poetry' is a lovely little collection of just that— poetry and anecdotes encouraging both the author and her readers to let go of self doubt and embrace self love. At times generic and at times deeply personal, there is more than enough variety in this collection to resonate with a wide range of readers.
It personally wasn't what I needed to hear, but I can respect the journey and the appeal to those at different points on the path.
As an audiobook, I can honestly say there's nothing better than poetry read by the author.
I haven’t read a lot of poetry but this is the most eye opening piece of literature I have ever read. Somewhere between the first and the last page of this book my whole mindset shifted. I was reminded of things I have forgotten. I was thought why I need to love myself, how I can love myself and most importantly the consequences of not giving yourself the love that you need. This was also beautifully narrated and the whole structure of this book was a journey. I am very happy that I went into this with an open mind because (and I do not say this lightly) this book has now changed my way of living. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who feels like they need the encouragement and support they cannot find from the outside world but I would also recommend this book to educate yourself of the importance and the impact of self love.
This was such an amazing and short audiobook to listen to.
The words and so empowering and soothing to the ear!
The fact that this was a book about self love really interested me and having read more than my share of self love and self help books scared me at first because you begin to feel like you've heard and read it all and it's going to be the same. But this book, i can assure you was great. The fact that it's poetry says it all.
Such a wonderful book to listen to when you feel like you're judging yourself and feel the need to know what you're worth.
I highly recommend listening to this book. And I'm sure I'll be listening to it more than once and would love to one day have a physical copy of it.
Incredible!
Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
Shared in coupled poems, Godfred shares a unique perspective on self love through her poetry.
I won’t comment on the structure of these poems; I don’t know enough about poetry. If the value of poetry is how it makes you feel, I felt in turns validated, called out, seen, and truly understood.
I would recommend if you need a healthy reality check on loving yourself, or if you just love a good collection of non-toxic poems.
I would not recommend the audiobook, which is what I listened to. A large amount of value should have been conveyed in the juxtaposition of poems told from the left and right sides of the brain. However, since I didn’t hear any poem titles, it was up to the listener to determine when each poem had ended. Get the book instead! It’s short and will go quickly.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an advanced copy of this audiobook.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Audio, Andrews McMeel Publishing for the audio version of this book. Everything I write is of my own opinion, thought, feelings. I am not compensated in any form for my writing.
I love poetry. I am really enjoying the audio version of poetry. This book really hits lots of emotions of many levels. It resonated with me. I really enjoyed this book
Many thanks to Netgalley, Andrews McMeel Audio and the author, for the ALC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Self love poetry is exactly what the name suggests, all about self love and how it will transform your life. The most beautiful part of this audiobook is that the book was read by the author herself and the passion and emotion behind her words were perfectly visible. The last part of the book where the poetry was read out with nature sounds noted as for meditation was a treat. When you resonate with the words and the sounds soothe you, its like you are in a different plane of existence with just yourselves. In short, it was beautiful and fulfilling.
This is a unique book of poetry that focuses on self love for those that are considered thinkers and feelers. These poems were relatable to me. I loved that the author would write one poem for thinkers and the same for feelers in a different way. I loved that the audio was narrated by the author. Thank you to Netgalley for the audio arc in exchange for my honest review.
Good but not amazing. Felt like a motivational speaker talking about self love. Felt like something my mom would enjoy though so maybe I’m just not the target audience? Or maybe it’d help if my love language was words of affirmation 🫢
I love when an author, especially a poetry writer, puts on the page exactly what I am thinking. It is truly a gift. This collection of poetry truly spoke to my soul.
The author herself narrates the audiobook which gives the audiobook a poetry reading feel. Grab a cup of coffee or tea, sit down outside, and listen to this audio book. It is perfect for the crisp cool weather.
WOW. I could relate to so many of these poems. It is a great reminder that we need to flip the script on how we see things and manifest things for ourselves.
