The IT book of the summer!!!
If you liked Nora Goes Off Script, you are going to love this one
It releases in two days
Thank you NetGalley for an arc:)
After loving Annabel Monaghan’s previous novel “Nora goes off script” I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this read! “Same Time Next Summer” was the perfect beach read full of young love, heartbreak and life decisions. I couldn’t put it down and loved this story!
For more than a decade, Samantha has avoided spending time at her family's Long Island beach house. But with her wedding less than a year away and her career in jeopardy, she agrees to take her fiance, Jack, for a long weekend. Of course, as soon as they arrive, she learns that Wyatt, her first love and the reason she's been avoiding it, is in residence next door.
Thirteen years ago, Wyatt broke her heart and she finally has her life back together. They can be friends, can't they? She loves Jack and looks forward to sharing her life with him. Never mind that she easily falls into conversation with Wyatt. They've known each other a long time.
I love second chance romances, but this one had me concerned, because Jack seemed like a perfectly nice guy. But so does Wyatt... Mainly romance, but with a healthy dose of family saga thrown in, this is a perfect summer read (I don't like the term "beach read"). I love Sam's idiosyncratic family and the setting is ideal. I kinda wish revelations about Wyatt's current life had come at a different point in the book, but that's a minor issue. #SameTimeNextSummer #NetGalley
While this book was universally loved by my book club members who read it, I think I’m the only one who liked it a smidge better than Nora Goes Off Script (also great)! I am not a romance reader, but Annabel Monaghan’s books work for me and she has established herself as a must-add to my summer reading list.
Sam is about to get married to Jack when her life starts to implode a little. Her job as a workplace consultant is in jeopardy after she took a client engagement completely off script. Her mother convinces the couple to come to their beach town to see a venue there. When Sam and Jack get there, they run into Wyatt. Wyatt who broke her heart years ago……..
While this sounds like something I would run away from, it just works so beautifully!
Nora Goes Off Script was my favorite read of 2022, I was delighted when I found out that Annabel Monaghan was releasing a second book. She is quickly becoming a must read author of mine! Same Time Next Summer was a quick and easy second chance romance. I loved the change in timelines and the growth in the characters. This is a perfect beach read!
This novel starts with main character Sam going with her fiancé Jack to her parents’ beach house on Long Island. But little does she know that next door is her childhood summer best friend and eventual teenage sweetheart Wyatt, who she hasn’t seen for 14 years since she was 16. Reeling from their breakup as a teenager, she went on to lead a much more buttoned up, safe life - including her fiancé - but seeing Wyatt again stirs up questions for her about what she really wants from life. The book is told in both present and past storylines, and occasionally from Wyatt’s perspective as well.
I absolutely adored Annabel Monaghan’s adult debut novel Nora Goes Off Script, which was my favorite rom com of 2022 and one of my top ten books of 2022 as well. I loved this one too, just not quite as much, but that’s a high bar! Honestly, second chance romance is possibly my least favorite trope, especially when the first romance was teenage. So the mere fact that I loved this book despite that being its focus is pretty remarkable and a testament to Annabel Monaghan’s skill as a writer! I really got drawn in by the characters (and the beach setting), and raced through it. And I for sure will read whatever she writes next!
The perfect nostalgic summer romance, this novel is a heartwarming reminder that somewhere out there is a person who will know you and love you for exactly who you are, not who they want you to be.
With a shared history and close proximity, the stakes are high as Sam and Wyatt are reintroduced after more than ten years apart, tiptoeing not only around their painful past but around each other as Sam and her fiancé Jack prepare for their upcoming wedding.
I was invested in the characters and hooked by the plot almost immediately, devouring the story with increasing fervor the further into it I read. I found myself regularly impacted by both the heartbreaking and heartwarming moments of the novel, desperately rooting for Sam and Wyatt to come to their senses and be honest with each other. Seeing Sam and Wyatt grow up together and fall in love as teenagers made the plot twist about their break up and the aftermath of their falling out that much more heartbreaking.
The plot’s structure worked well, separated evenly between past and present, in a way that maximized the plot’s drama and reader engagement. I might have liked to have seen the present plot line expanded in some places to slow down the pace and refocus on the ‘here and now’ between Sam and Wyatt, giving a little more space to their evolving emotions and newly rediscovered friendship, but the plot was strong overall, and the novel was a solid 4-star read.
Sam has spent the last 14 years piecing herself and her life back together after her first love broke her heart. She's finally moved on and has the perfect fiance with the perfect life. She has a good job and a safe, predictable life in the city. When she returns home to visit her parents, she runs into Wyatt, her ex boyfriend and the guy she's worked so hard to get over. Old feelings and memories come flooding back as they reconnect and Sam has to face the music and ask herself if she's really living the life she wants?
This is the perfect summer read! The beach imagery had me yearning to be near the ocean. Sam's character is eccentric and relatable in so many ways. This is more than just a love story, it's also a story about coming back to yourself. I loved the writing and how unique all the characters were! Love triangles can often feel cringey or uncomfortable but this one didn't at all! The story unfolds so naturally. I loved all the characters and they were all so believably flawed and likable.
Read if you like:

**To note: this is a mostly closed door romance.**

Title: Same Time Next Summer
Author: Annabel Monaghan
Genre: Romance
Rating: 5 out of 5
Beach Rules:
Do take long walks on the sand.
Do put an umbrella in every cocktail.
Do NOT run into your first love.
Sam's life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fiancé, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her family's Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But there's no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right?
Yet being back at this beach, hearing notes from Wyatt's guitar float across the night air from next door as if no time has passed--Sam's memories come flooding back: the feel of Wyatt's skin on hers, their nights in the treehouse, and the truth behind their split. Sam remembers who she used to be, and as Wyatt reenters her life their connection is as undeniable as it always was. She will have to make a choice.
This book. Y’all…I was up until midnight reading this straight through because I could NOT put it down! Sam’s family is delightfully quirky and entertaining, and I loved them. I also loved seeing Sam and Wyatt’s relationship in the past—and watching as Sam rediscovered who she really is, not the person she’s been pretending to be. This would have been so much easier if Jack was a jerk, but he’s not (usually). Sam spends a lot of the book in denial, but her journey was absolutely wonderful to read. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
Annabel Monaghan lives in New York. Same Time Next Summer is her newest novel.

Another absolute HIT from Annabel Monaghan! I love this story full of summertime nostalgia, salty sunshine, and the valuable reminder to live your authentic life.
I liked this so much! It had such a great sense of place, and I thought the dual timeline was deployed really effectively. Absolutely adored Wyatt as a hero and felt that all the characters were very well drawn. A perfect summer beach read—hard to say if I liked it more than Nora, but definitely as much!
I loved this book! It was a great beach read.I fell for the characters and felt the romance. I fell into this book and could not put it down! This was a fun entertaining read with drama. It is an easy beach read and puts you right into the world! Overall, 4.5 stars!
Thanks to NetGalley and especially to Hodder and Stoughton for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
On paper, Sam has everything she wants. She lives in NYC, she is engaged to a doctor named Jack, and she somewhat enjoys her job. However, she is missing that spark between her and Jack. It feels like she just settled.
Sam and Jack spend a few days at Sam's parent's summer home on a beach in Long Island. This is where she spent every summer. This is also where she fell in love with Wyatt.
Sam and Jack went to look at a wedding venue in the area. Jack just didn’t care what Sam thought. Everything she would want for the wedding he disagreed with, everything from cake to linens. She went with what Jack wanted, disregarding her feelings to make him happy.
When she sees Wyatt all these years later you notice how relaxed and happy she is around him.
I was so happy when she chose what was best for her in all aspects of her life. I adored Wyatt and Sam together.
This is a really cute book about second chances and doing what is best for you even if it means taking some risks.
Another great summer read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
First loves, second-chance romances….it’s like catnip to me! I echo what so many others have said: this novel is going to be such a popular beach read this summer! The flashbacks throughout this story were so effective, laying the foundation for a truly satisfying character arc for Sam and Wyatt in the present day. Stories that buoy the spirit are so meaningful, now more than ever!
Thank you to Penguin, G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for the digital readers copy.
Unfortunately for me I never really connected with the characters from this story. Wyatt and Sam never really felt like they had what it took to stick together in the present time and I struggle with romances when they are kids because it feels a little too YA for me. So really all around this didn’t work for me the way I was hoping it would. Everyone else I have seen has been raving about this book so I was very surprised when it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Anyone who loved “Every Summer After” I know will devour this book.
Same Time Next Summer is sure to be a favorite this summer. It takes me back to first loves and summers at the beach. Sam thinks she has her life figured out. She returns to her childhood summer home with her fiancé to to meet up with her first love. Throughout the story she learns about herself and that things aren’t always what they seem. I appreciate NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
You know a book is perfection when you don’t want it to end and when you are thinking about what the characters are doing while you’re not reading the book. Annabelle Monaghan has crafted a beautiful love story that spans decades between Samantha, daughter of hippie artists and Wyatt the son of parents who seem to have fallen out of love. Wyatt and Sam come together every summer at their beach houses until one summer when something happens to change everything. This book, just like her last one, Nora Goes off Script, will be in my top 10 Reads of the year I’m sure!
Thanks to the publisher for my advanced copy of Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan. I absolutely adored Nora Goes Off Script last year and was sp looking forward to this book and I was so sad in didn't like this more.
It seemed like a watered down Every Summer After mixed with Sweet Home Alabama. And just couldn't root for Sam, the emotional cheating isn't a storyline I can get behind. Loved the family and setting though...

Automatic 5⭐️ if you make me cry, and this book did it. I absolutely loved Sam’s & Wyatt’s story. This is the perfect beach read. I just flew through it. Run, don’t walk to grab this book when it comes out on Tuesday!!
TY @netgalley and @putnambooks for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sam’s life is on track- she is engaged to a doctor, has a well paying job, and is planning her wedding. She and her fiancé return to her family’s summer beach home and she is faced with the one who got away- her teenage heartbreak, Wyatt. Sam can’t escape the memories of her past, and needs to decide what it means for her future.
This is a perfect summer beach read! It reminds me a bit of some of my favorite summer reads- Every Summer After and Love and Other Words, though the plots are different. The beachfront setting, it’s always been you/second chance at love tropes, and family drama all add to this romance for a binge-worthy summer book. This was my first book written by this author but I’m looking forward to reading more from her!
Thank you to Annabel Monaghan, GP Putnam’s Sons, and Netgalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
