I WILL eat up second chance tropes for childhood sweethearts EVERY TIME!!!
๐๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ, ๐๐ฆ๐น๐ต ๐๐ถ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ณ - a decade ago, Wyatt and Sam were irrevocably ๐ถ๐ป ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ. She was the ๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฒ to his ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด. But then like sparkles, their relationship exploded and they lost touch. Now, Sam's getting married to a steady guy in their very predictable wedding but her heart's not in it. Cut to Wyatt dropping in on unfeeling wedding preparations to jerk back Sam's heart - if only it was that easy.
That man was ๐ช๐ฏ ๐ญ๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ, in love. The whole I'd marry you tฬถฬถoฬถฬถmฬถฬถoฬถฬถrฬถฬถrฬถฬถoฬถฬถwฬถ today sort.
But then he broke Sam's heart and lost her. Now he's got some groveling to do and Sam's got some forgiveness to give(? idk).

Anyways those two are head over heels and they'll be okay together. I wanna talk about who's teaching little Gracie to act bigger than her age ๐ญ๐.
My mini review in French!

SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER, what a great way to kick off summer reading.
Sam and Wyatt summer teen love that starts even before they know it. First childhood friends that bloom into teen love. After several summers and a family shock turmoil sets in that Wyatt finds tough to handle. Fast forward 14 years. Sam revisits the beach with possible plans to marry Jack. Stay at the beach with her family, which is quirkier when at the beach than in the city. Jack shows his true colors of not loving Sam's dreams. Paths cross with Wyatt Hmm, I wonder where this will lead.
Thank you NetGalley for this amazing ARC.
Annabel Monaghan has done it again! Same Time Next Summer is such a good beach read with emotion. The story of young love, how it broke, and how it came back together again. The beach makes the perfect background to this romance. I loved this book and read it in 2 days. 5 โญ๏ธ!

Sam is back at her familyโs Long Island beach house looking at wedding venues when she runs into her childhood friend and first love, Wyatt that she has not seen in 14 years since they split. This story has a past and present timeline where you get to see her and Wyatt grow up together and fall in love and what led to their breakup in the past and their reunion in the future. Sam has to make a choice on what life she wants to live and who she wants to be.
Such a cute & quick second chance romance summer read!! I loved the Long Island and beach house setting so much! I enjoyed the past and present timeline and seeing how Sam became the person she became in the present time. I thought her character development and how she really found herself again by the end of the book was really great! I wish we had gotten a little more in the past chapters to help connect a little more with Sam and Wyatt, but overall it was a cute second chance story!
A perfect summer romance that you will not be able to put down! Sam returns to the beach with her glossy fiance, ready to commit her life to a solid, organized, reputable man. But when she has a run-in with her first true love, Wyayy, everything she thinks she wants turns a little fuzzy.
Thank you, NetGalley, for an advanced copy of this novel.
This was a cute summer romance second chance love book! I liked how the story jumped timelines to show how the characters acted back in their teens and how that led up to their point in the present day.
I felt like Iโve read similar plots to this one before. I wish it had a twist to it. It was easy to predict what was going to happen which isnโt a bad thing.
I read Nora Goes Off Script last summer and LOVED it!
Thanks for letting me read this before it was published on June 6th!
Itโs hard for any book to follow Nora Goes Off Script, which spoke to me so personally. I loved this story, about Sam and her relationship with/to herself and her past even moreso than it was about Sam and her relationship with/to Wyatt. It tugged at your heartstrings and was uplifting and really felt like a day at the beach.
I adore second chance romance novels, especially with main characters in their thirties, and jumped at a chance to read Annabel Monaghanโs newest adult novel. I always appreciate how the stories focus not just on the MCsโ love lives, but also their careers and where they see themselves settling down. Those struggles are so realistic and relatable for me.
While I appreciate those tropes, this story didnโt add any new or novel elements. Maybe Iโve just read too many romance novels lately, but while I emphasized with Samโs heartbreak and Wyattโs anger, this story just seemed like a carbon copy of all the others. The writing style also made it hard for me to engage with the book. It felt like I was reading someone elseโs narration of the characters lives rather than experiencing their unique POVs. After loving Nora Goes Off Script, this one just didnโt live up to my high expectations. Overall, though, this was a quick read and I think readers will enjoy it as intended - during summertime on the beach.
Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam/G. P. Putnamโs Sons for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
This will certainly be on my Top 10 List for Summer 2023. From the first paragraph I couldnโt put it downโฆ and I didnโt. I read the entire book in an afternoon. The perfect summer setting returning to the summer home on the beach. Nostalgic memories of a first love who just happens to be there. A fiancรฉ who doesnโt really know who she is. Start to finish a great summer read. Thank you Net Galley for a copy of this book.
*3.5
I really enjoyed this. I think that the past and present storylines were done very well and fit together nicely. Wyatt and Sam are a good second chance couple. There was just something about the writing of the book that threw me off. I feel like something about the super short chapters and it being in third person made it so I couldn't connect to the characters.
I received an arc through netgalley.
โHer body felt so right in the summer that it stretched and grew until the straps of her bathing suit left deep marks on her shouldersโ
I think this is the genre of romance that I love the most; summertime first love/second chance. This one is for those who loved Every Summer After and Love & Other Words.
highlights:
east coast summer (long island & nyc)
romantic nostalgia
likable characters
satisfying ending
dual POV & timeline
main character named Wyatt causing me to picture Wyatt from Ozark the entire book
perfect beach read
I loved this book so much & will definitely be picking up Annabel's first book!
Oh what a lovely summer 2nd chance romance! I just couldn't put this down and fell in love with the main characters and their journeys apart and together.
Nora Goes off Script was my favorite romcom of last year and Monaghan didn't disappoint with this one! She has a beautiful way of creating a main romance you root for and care about along with an incredibly entertaining cast of family members that you just fall in love with.
I love that this novel is a second chance romance featuring a friendship that blossoms into a romance all in the setting of a small town beach community. There was one little trope that bothers me in books - especially in this modern age of social media and googling - but overall this was such an enjoyable read and gave me all the good feels.
I also appreciate that Monaghan writes romance is a sexy way without going into all the details and spicy scenes. That's just me but I must prefer a closed door romance to an open door romance that has my face read and checking to make sure no one is looking over my shoulder and seeing what I'm reading!
I highly recommend this book - but first Nora Goes Off Script if you haven't already read it! This will definitely be the romcom of the summer and I cannot wait to see what this author does next!
Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam's Sons for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
What a fantastic summer read! Truly the epitome of the perfect beach read. I canโt wait for readers to get their hands on this one!
Similar to Every Summer After, we have Samantha (Sam) and Wyatt spending every summer together at their familiesโ beach homes on Long Island. They find a rare love in each other that most people can only ever dream of. They dream of forever together. But then, an unexpected bombshell between their families forces them apart. Neither of them deal well with it.
Years later, Sam is now engaged & Wyatt is out in LA. Theyโre both back at the beach for the summer. Samโs planning her wedding & Wyatt is in town to help with a music festival. They realize how much theyโve grown and changed, not necessarily for the better. The thing I loved about these two is that they only wanted the best for the other, even if that meant they couldnโt be together.
I was very anxious because I was afraid we would have cheating in this book. Sam is, after all, engaged to Jack. Sam & Wyattโs reunion is a foregone conclusion given the nature of a book like this. I didnโt want to get to that finish line if it involved cheating, though. Thankfully (and hopefully this isnโt too much of a spoiler), thereโs no cheating.
This book was very reminiscent of Every Summer After, but I didnโt find that the similar story lines kept me from enjoying the book at all. I felt so many emotions as I read it. It truly felt well thought/mapped out. The author knew what her end goal was & she told a beautiful story to get her readers there.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Be sure to check this out when it hits shelves on June 6th!
Sam is engaged to her seemingly perfect for her fiance Jack and they have what is what she would describe as a nearly perfect relationship and life together. Everything just fits. Sam heads to her childhood beach house to visit wedding venues when she gets hit with a blast from the past or rather an ex, her first true love, maybe her only true love? Wyatt. Beautiful, soulful, heart- crushing, guitar playing Wyatt.
Annabel Monaghan, the author of Nora Goes off Script has written another masterpiece and the book of 2023 in Same Time Next Summer. A beautiful, thoughtful and thought provoking novel that takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions and years of love and hurt and the reactions to that. We see these beautiful characters grow from their experiences and turn into the people they are today who can maybe learn to love again? But whom do they fall in love with?
Read this stunning novel to find out everything you ever needed and wanted to know about love and life!
I really liked this summer read about first loves and what happens with that magical feeling! A great book to read over the summer!
I know Iโm not the only person that walks around a pool while on vacation, spying on the books people are reading. I guarantee this is the book you will see the most - itโs going to be the book of summer!

๐ ๐ฆ๐๐บ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ is my idea of summertime perfection. A great setting, a second chance love story, fun characters, light but never mindless fluff. I sometimes struggle with womens fiction or romcoms but never with @annabelmonaghan books. Her writing is smart and sharp. This book includes so many of my favorite things to read - coming of age story, alternating timelines and points of view, and I always love rooting for the love that got away.
โ
๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ฒ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ๐ณ ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฝ๐ was a favorite from last year and Iโm so glad to say the same about this book. Iโm already looking forward to what comes next!
Such a cute book! I never get tired of this trope and the book did not disappoint. Ending was perfect. It will most definitely be a book of the summer.
Sam's life seems perfect with her ideal fiancรฉ, Jack, and a successful job in Manhattan. However, as she visits her family's beach house on Long Island to tour a wedding venue, she senses something amiss. The reason becomes clear when she discovers Wyatt, her former love interest from her teenage years. The memories rush back, from their romantic moments to the painful breakup. Surrounded by the familiar beach atmosphere and the sound of Wyatt's guitar, Sam is reminded of her past self. The undeniable connection between Sam and Wyatt resurfaces, forcing her to confront her emotions and make a difficult decision.
Same Time Next Summer is perfect for fans of Every Summer After! The story is told with a dual timeline from Samโs first-person point of view. In the past, Sam is falling in love with Wyatt and experiencing childhood summers on Long Island. In the present, Sam is planning her wedding and re-evaluating her rigid life in the present.
One of my favorite things about this book was how it focused on Sam re-evaluating her entire life piece by piece. Some of it is in the context of her romantic relationships, but it also explores her relationship with her family, her career, and her relationship with herself.
If you enjoy childhood friends to lovers, and second chance romance like Every Summer After, I recommend Same Time Next Summer! However, I should warn you that this is not just a straightforward romance. The story heavily focuses on Samโs character progression and less overall on her romantic relationships.
Thank you to @putnambooks and @netgalley for the advanced copy! All opinions are my own!
Sam has spent most of her adult life striving for a future without surprises. She has finally reached her idea of perfection, the perfect safe job, and now a fiance who thrives on routines. Everything is just like she wants it, and she is thrilled. Or at least she's supposed to be. A trip to her family's beach house and a face-to-face meeting with the boy, now man, who broke her heart makes her question all that she needs to be happy.
With sensitivity and humor, Monaghan addresses the beauty of first love and the heartbreak of loss, looking at both the past and the present intermittently throughout the book. By creating beautifully flawed characters, the author engages readers in a believable love story that is difficult to put down.
In Same Time Next Summer, Monaghan has once again written a lovely, thought-provoking novel about love, life, and the stories people tell themselves. With well-written characters and an engaging storyline, Monaghan delivers a story worth reading repeatedly.
I loved the authorโs previous book โNora Goes Off Scriptโ and when I saw she another book coming out I have to read it. This story is the perfect summer read about a young couple who gets a second chance at romance!
Sam in engaged and thinks she's totally over Wyatt, her teen first love, when she returns to the beach town they spent their summers at and fell in love in to plan her upcoming wedding to someone else, he happens to be there and they decide they can both be friends. There are a lot of chapters of their backstory as they grow up and fall in love at the beach. They really make you feel like you are part of this story and on the beach with them. I really enjoyed this book. Nothing is rushed or forced and things happen between the characters in what seems like real time. Great summer read or any time read for that matter.
