This book was easy, in the most positive delightful way a book.can be. I loved the second chance at love trope, and the back and forth story lines. I fell in love with the characters' romance and cheered when they finally came back together. A great summer read that makes you forget where you are and think of your first love and days at the beach. Very enjoyable book.

I thoroughly enjoyed Nora Goes Off Script and was very excited to read this book. It fully lived up to my expectations. Monaghan does a fantastic job of writing romances with depth and feeling. I was completely emotionally invested in these characters. Sometimes I struggle with dual timeline plots as I find I enjoy one of the time frames (past or present) much more than the other. Not so with this book. I loved seeing Sam and Wyatt’s relationship grow as teenagers and equally enjoyed seeing them reunited as adults.

The theme of “finding yourself” and living authentically that Sam is going through as a late-20s/early 30-something is one that I think many readers will identify with. The pressure put on people to have it all figured out by then is very real and changing your mind about careers or relationships at that point is almost frowned upon by society. I loved that Sam made her life changes for herself and that having those decisions lead her back to Wyatt was just a bonus.

I think readers will love Wyatt and Sam both individually and as a couple. They are well-written with flaws but we get to see them grow from teenagers to adults while they make mistakes and figure things out.

I think one reason I respond so much to Monaghan’s stories (both this one and Nora) is that she writes characters that are actually adults. They aren’t in their early 20s going through the things that everyone goes through at that time in their life. They’re proper adults and they have real adult problems. I just identify with them more than I do with some of the “new adult” romance characters and plots.

If readers enjoyed Nora Goes Off Script they will definitely appreciate this book. I can’t wait to see what the author writes next.

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I absolutely adored Nora Goes Off Script, so I was thrilled to get an advanced copy of Same Time Next Summer and I LOVED IT!!!! Annabel Monaghan is definitely working her way onto my list of favorite authors.

What can I say? This was the perfect, feel good, make you laugh, make you smile book. Loved the storyline and the characters…ALL of them! Even Jack wasn’t too horrible. Definitely not for Sam though. Team Wyatt all the way!

Favorite line of the book - “That’s the rest of my life right there.” ❤️🥰

I absolutely recommend this book. It’s a perfect beach read. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this author. One suggestion for down the road: a sequel to Same Time Next Summer. PLEASE!!

I don’t feel like I got enough of Wyatt and Sam at the end. I mean that’s not really a spoiler, because anyone in their right mind assumed from the beginning that they would end up together. But now we definitely need another book about them together as adults! 😉

Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam Books for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

this was my first read by this author and i was lucky enough to get an ARC so i was able to read it a little bit before it is released in June. it is a great summer nostalgia read, but also falls into the first love and second chance love categories.

the story takes place in both the present and through flashbacks of the past. the flashbacks show how the two main characters, Sam and Wyatt, meet as kids and became close friends as their families spent each summer together on long island, and eventually developed a relationship. they were each other's first everything so it was so sad when something happened that pushed them apart and affected them enough that they didn't see or speak to each other for a lot of years (no neither cheated). in the present storyline, they are all grown up. Sam brings her fiancé Jack to her family's beach house to determine if they might want to have their wedding there rather than the city. Sam is not expecting to see Wyatt, and all of her old memories and feelings come flooding back to her and she starts to realize that she isn't really happy with her safe, boring life she has chosen with both her career and relationship.

i loved the main characters in this book and seeing how their love story developed, and how they fell right back into sync with each other. both clearly had a lot of unresolved feelings for each other, but Wyatt tried to respect the fact that Sam had moved on until it became painfully obvious to everyone, as well. i cannot say much more without getting too spoilery, so i will end here saying thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC. i really enjoyed this book and feel so privileged to already have been able to read it and will definitely be recommending it as a great summer/ beachy/ nostalgia/ first love/ second chance love read.

Same Time Next Summer was a delight. Thank you to Penguin Group Putnam for the ARC. I am sharing my review voluntarily.

This is the story of Adam figuring out what she wants and needs in her life. A teenage heart break led her to close off to her wants and focus on living without possibility of heartbreak or let down. A summer week spent with her family at their beach house on Long Island reawakens her spirit and she’s searching for answers to what makes her feel happy and whole.

This was a sweet story that I related to easily. The writing is so strong and vivid. Annabel Monaghan is truly so special and talented.

I struggled to put this down and finished it in a day. The pace was good and I loved the way at the dual POV was done.

I recommend this for anyone who enjoys revisiting the nostalgia and longing of childhood and first love.

When Sam brought her fiancé to her family beach house for a weekend it was with the intent to look at a wedding venue, not to run into her first love. Sam and Jack have the perfect life and are planning the perfect wedding, she doesn’t have time to revisit the heartbreak Wyatt caused when he walked away all those years ago. Unfortunately Sam can’t control everything in her life.

If you're looking for the ultimate summer beach read, look no further! This book is everything you could want and more, including a beautiful setting, a tempting ex, and a whole lot of memories along the way. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a sweet second-chance summer romance. Sam and Wyatt grow up spending summers together in Long Island. As teenagers, they fall in love, then everything falls apart, shaping the next decade-plus of their lives. They reunite 12 years later as Sam returns to her family’s beach house to plan her wedding to another man. I loved the then-and-now storylines and especially Sam’s family. Also, Annabel Monaghan is such a talented writer. Lovely summer beach read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I loved Annabel Monaghan's first book, Nora Goes Off Script and I was thrilled when the publisher reached out and asked if I wanted to read an ARC of her new book. Thank you @putnambooks and @netgalley for this book!

Same Time Next Summer is an absolutely perfect summer read. I can't say I have ever thought of going to Long Island, but this book had me dreaming of planning a trip there! Warm summer nights, swimming in the ocean and the sand between my toes.

Sam and Wyatt spent their summers at beach houses next door to each other. After years of friendship, they fall into young love. Circumstances drive them apart and it takes Sam years to recover. Now she is back on Long Island to plan her wedding to Jack, her very safe (and vanilla) fiance. But Wyatt is also back....right next door like nothing has changed. Will Sam choose the life that looks right on paper or can she open herself back up to Wyatt?

Grab this book and a glass of lemonade and let yourself be transported to the beach and those perfect summer nights.

Sam, age 31, is getting married to Jack. She agrees to go back to her childhood summer home at the beach to look at wedding locations there, as Jack wants to and Sam does what Jack wants. Sam never returned to the beach after she broke up with her childhood sweat heart, Wyatt. When Sam gets to the house, she learns Wyatt is in town...

A wonderful summer romance read - I loved the fun location! The full cast of characters were delightful and kept the pace moving, and I also enjoyed the dual timeline format. I can see this being a very popular beach read when it releases in June!

I loved Nora Goes Off Script so I have been anxiously awaiting Anabel Monaghan's sophomore novel, but Same Time Next Year blew all my expectations out of the water. So much amazing summertime nostalgia! It reminded me of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

This one takes place on Long Island, but I was picturing my own childhood summertime trips to Cape Cod. I never had this kind of summer romance, but the scenes were so beautifully described that it almost felt like I had.

Same Time Next Summer is perfect for lovers of second-chance romances and rekindled childhood romances. There is a spot of frustrating miscommunication trope, but it's in the past when the characters were dumb kids.

This is one book you should RUN to preorder. I absolutely recommend you pick this one up for this summer's beach vacations, or even some wishful thinking in your backyard. It's the perfect summer read. I can't gush enough about Sam, Wyatt, Monaghan's amazing writing, and this story!

I read Nora Goes Off Script and loved it so I was excited to see a second book from the same author.

Sam is engaged and searching for the perfect wedding venue. Her mom asks her to check out a place in the town they spent every summer in while growing up. The problem? The whole town holds memories of her childhood best friend turned lover, Wyatt. Wyatt ran away from his life while they were together and deeply hurt Sam. Years have gone by with zero communication and while Sam didn't keep up with Wyatt's life, he has been keeping up with hers. Now they're both back in the place they fell in love, surrounded by the memories, planning a wedding...but everything feels "off".

There were so many things to love about this book and I was captivated from the start. Just to name a few:
-watching Sam and Wyatt's friendship turn to love as they grew
-the way things ended while not the happiest, made sense
-watching Sam navigate her relationship with Jack
-her family - they were an amazing support for her and never criticized her choices.
-the secrets that were kept and later revealed
-perfect book pacing with the dual timeline and dual POV

*Sigh*. What a fantastic book! If you want Sweet Home Alabama vibes then this is the book for you!

Thank you, thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This beach read (I say this because the majority of the book takes place within close proximity to the beach) and breathtaking second-chance romance captured the essence of summer. The character development was absolutely stunning and the multiple perspectives made both love interests deeply sympathetic. The family dynamics woven throughout the scenes made protagonist Sam infinitely more three-dimensional. This book got at the feeling that turning 30 has a way of making people question their life's choices and, as Monaghan put so eloquently, reach for the "truest parts" of themselves. I can't believe it took me so long to discover Annabel Monaghan. I devoured this book in one day during my spring break and it gave me the fuel to reach for summer as I finish out this school year.

I really enjoyed this book. I would consider it a fun, summer read. I would definitely read more from this author.

First, thank you to @netgalley and @putnambooks for this advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely adored Monaghan’s first novel, Nora Goes Off Script, and this one was an excellent sophomore effort. Her writing is effortless and immediately engaging, and at times, poetic. I started this yesterday and would have finished it yesterday as well if I hadn’t had work to do in the middle.

This story follows Sam and Wyatt, childhood sweethearts who met at their respective beach houses on Long Island as kids. They fell in love, grew up together, and then things fell apart. Fast forward more than a decade, and Sam is engaged to tightly-buttoned-up Jack and they are back on Long Island to plan their October wedding.

This is told in alternating timelines between their childhood and present day, and is mostly narrated by Sam (with a few chapters by Wyatt). Through the story, we learn how they fell in love, why they fell apart, and what’s happened since.

The thing I love most about Monaghan’s writing is how authentic to real life it is. Things aren’t rosy-colored and perfect, but this still maintains the glow of a romance novel. It’s a family story, and a story about self-discovery.

It gave me a lot of “Every Summer After” by Carley Fortune vibes (which is a compliment, because I also loved that book). It has a great “summer beach read” vibe.

I really enjoyed this one, and this has solidified Monaghan as an auto-buy author for me. If you love summer reads, romances (especially second chance romances), and excellent writing, pick this one up when it drops on June 6!

This is the perfect summer read, recommended for fans of Every Summer After and The Summer I Turned Pretty. This book has a first love, second chance romance and all the beach vibes.

While I generally enjoyed this book, there were a few things that really bothered me. The pacing felt off. Switching between the past and present was good for context, but the author just kept random details from the reader for a long time, and it didn’t serve a good purpose (like why Sam thought she was getting fired). Additionally, the present day Wyatt felt like a one dimensional character and came across a little bland. If we didn’t see the past flashbacks, then there would pretty much be no romance. Finally, Sam was a hard heroine to root for. Every single thing that happened in this book made it very evident that she did not want to marry Jack and by doing so, she would lose herself. She kept on with the lie she was telling herself for so long. At one point Wyatt confronts her and also asks why her family hadn’t stepped in and that was another great point. Like, hello, they should’ve staged an intervention!

Anyways, decent book but my frustrations overwhelmed my enjoyment.

I think it might be early to say this but I suspect this will be The book of the summer. We have all read the story before. Only this time it feels so genuine and real. Sam is about to get married md goes to her family’s beach house for a weekend before the wedding planning kicks into high gear.

The story is told from two points of view, in both present time and during the summer of their years in high school. It was nice to read about an imperfect family who still manages to make it work. If you’re looking for a fun summer read, this will not disappoint.

Thank you to Penguin and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was one of my most anticipated books for the summertime and I was thrilled to receive this ARC. I loved Annabel Monaghan's first book Nora Goes off Script so I was very anxious to read the author's next book. Same Time Next Summer did not disappoint! Second chance romance is my fav of all the troupes and this one was done to perfection! I loved the tension, the connection between two families (wow, did not see that coming!) and the ending (I didn't want it to end...I wish there was more!) I thought this was unique, and fast-paced and anytime you put a story beachside I am totally in! A perfect beach read for sure! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have been hearing all about Nora Goes Off Script and when I saw the same author wrote this book, I was very excited to check it.

Sam spent every summer at her parents beach house in Long Island where she met the boy next door Wyatt and falls deeply in love with him. Sam gets her heart broken and has not returned since. Now Sam is engaged and headed to Long Island to check out a wedding venue to please her mom, but upon arriving Wyatt is there…

The story unfolds bouncing back and forth between present and past outlining how they met, spent their summers, fell in love, broke up, how it destroyed both of them and eventually led them back to the beach.

Sam has doubts about her fiancé, but mostly who she is after reacquainting with Wyatt. Sam’s quirkly parents and sassy grandparents were fun supporting characters.

Without giving spoilers, I devoured this book in two days and absolutely loved the ending! 5 stars!
