I really enjoyed Norah Goes off Script, so I was looking forward to Same Time Next Summer, and I was not disappointed.

Sam brings her doctor fiancé to her family’s Long Island beach house to tour a possible wedding venue. She spent every summer of her youth here, first becoming friends with Wyatt, and then, as a teenager, falling madly in love. Because of family drama, his promises of forever disappeared, shattering her. When she learns that Wyatt is in town the same time she and Jack are, she’s rattled. She shouldn’t be=--she dealt with all of this a long time ago. She has a well-paying job and a fiancé—clearly she’s moved on!

The chemistry between musician Wyatt and artsy Sam who works as an HR consultant, is clear, even with the lack of communication and hurt feelings since they last spoke twelve years earlier. But Wyatt lives in LA and Sam lives in New York and is about to get married. They’ll just get some closure and move on with their lives.

This is super fun romance. I liked Sam and her family and Wyatt a lot. Jack is a little too buttoned up and works out to what I consider an insane degree for anyone who isn’t training for the Olympics.

NetGalley provided an advance copy of this novel, which RELEASES JUNE 6, 2023.

Same Time Next Summer

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sam and Wyatt grew up spending summers at their families beach houses on Long Island from the time they were 5 years old. They were inseparable until Wyatt broke Sam’s 17 year old heart sending her into an emotional tailspin. Fast forward 14 years and Sam is newly engaged to marry Jack, a successful doctor and the definition of stability. Sam finds herself returning to her family’s Long Island home for the first time in many years, at her mothers request to consider hosting the wedding at the beach. Sam has avoided Long Island at all costs, the flood of memories would be too difficult to bare. Finally feeling like her life is on track again, will it all unravel when she unexpectedly comes face to face with Wyatt?

What I loved about this book: Everything!!

•Dual timeline of Sam and Wyatt’s relationship
•Character development
•Multiple POV

@annabelmonaghan created lovable characters that I could easily relate to. I was instantly transported to the beach with my toes in the sand. A must read, beach read, for the summer of 2023. If you are a fan of Every Summer After, you will not be disappointed!!

Thank you @netgalley and @penguinpublications for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!!!

I really wanted to love this book as Love and Other Words and Every Summer After we’re two of my favorites and I felt like this had the same premise. While it was an enjoyable and quick read, I just didn’t feel the character development that I wanted. I felt like the past and present was choppy and the change from first to third person was also a struggle for me. Overall it was a cute and fun read and I would totally recommend it for an easy summer beach read! Thanks to Penguin and NetGalley for this ARC!

📖 SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER by Annabel Monaghan

♥️I loved Nora Goes Off Script, and I’m in love Same Time Next Summer.
If you love set on a beach, second-chance romance with a dual timeline and dual POV, then this book is for you.🏖

It’s a perfect summer beach read, with beautiful and swooning writing. Some scenes are written so well I felt my heart squeeze with hurt.😕

I was afraid that Sam’s and Wyatt’s breakup would be the same as other books with a similar scenario, but it wasn’t. It took me by (a good) surprise, but I can totally see some teenagers react like that.

I appreciate that Mrs. Monaghan didn’t write Jack (Sam’s adult boyfriend) as an evil jackass. Sam and Jack didn’t have chemistry because they were too different. He needs a woman who has the same interests and lifestyle views as he does. I can actually think of a few of my friends who would love to marry Jack😏

Annabel Monaghan is now one of my favorite authors, and I really hope she’ll come back to Atlanta this summer! 💖

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the digital ARC.

I loved Nora Goes Off Script when I read it last year, and was so excited to see Annabel Monaghan had a new novel coming out.

Same Time Next Summer deals with Sam (aka Samantha, Sam, I Am) and Wyatt, childhood best friends who haven't seen each other in years. Sam is certified Type A, buttoned up – totally not like she used to be growing up, we learn. She's at the beach with her whole family, including her fiancé, Jake, when she runs into Wyatt, aforementioned best friend and first love. And well, you'll have to read to learn what happens next.

This book has a great structure (now and then, learning about what led to the chasm between Sam and Wyatt), and even better character development. I loved the extended family as characters, too – the grandparents always made me chuckle. Much like NORA, I think this will be one of those Summer books you see everywhere – and for good reason! I'll definitely be adding it to my list of recommendations for friends and family alike.

I received an ARC courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way impacted my review of the book.

A charming read that made me physically ache for a good swim in the ocean, this book is perfect for summertime (or general beach-adjacent) enjoyment. It got off to a bit of a slow start, but that allows for the reader to really feel and experience Sam coming back into herself over the course of the novel. I would have enjoyed more time in Wyatt’s POV, but loved getting to know Sam’s family. Oh, for an invitation to one of their summer night dinner parties! I can’t wait to read whatever Annabel Monaghan writes next!

A perfect summer beach read! I was so excited when I saw another book from this author and she completely delivered! Fun and smart read! Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced read!

This book made me want to curl up on the beach and read all summer! It perfectly captured the vibes of a good soul-refreshing vacation.

I appreciate how the author mixed two timelines so well and the teenage, coming-of-age section felt nostalgic, not too cheesy or too YA. This is novel I always wanted to write when I was younger because it captures the pain and beauty of being young and naive. When we didn't kn0w how many other amazing people we'd meet or places we'd go. When we didn't know our personalities and preferences still had time to change.

My only complaint about the book is that the "other guy" is such a dud. Her adult boyfriend sucked from page 1, and it was really hard to see the chemistry. If she's in that boring of a relationship, of course she'll romanticize her previous heartbreaks.

Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House for selecting me to read this book early. Definitely going to add all of Annabel Monaghan's books to my TBR forever.

It took me a while to think of how to write the review for this book. I absolutely adored Nora Goes Off Script. So I was so excited to get an advance copy of the author’s new book. I would say I was a bit disappointed when I first started reading it, because I expected it to be on the lines of Nora Goes Off Script. Some serious matter, but a lot of fun flirty stuff also. Same Time, Next Summer seemed a little more sober. Truthfully, at first I didn’t even care for either of the two main characters. And I did not care who they ended up with. And in the beginning, I surprisingly did not have any dislike for Jack. But as the book went on, and I got more settled into it, I really began to enjoy it. By the end of the book, I loved Sam and Wyatt. I loved all the family dynamics and I did enjoy that from the very beginning of the book. I think if I had not had the expectations I had, I would have enjoyed it more from the beginning. I will say it’s a book that I would read again and it’s a book that I would definitely recommend!
I will definitely read future books by Annabelle Monaghan!
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read this early.

I liked Nora Goes Off Script, but I LOVED Same Time Next Summer! Five stars for sure. One of the things that stands out about Annabel Monaghan is the quality of her writing- she is able to bring the characters and story to life with such detail. I truly loved book and can't wait for her next one!

P.S. Thank you NetGalley for my ARC copy.

What a fun read! If you have ever experienced having a summer home and the deep connections created while “on vacation “, you will recognize moments and memories between Wyatt and Sam. Relaxing, swimming, surfing, drawing, and guitar playing while living on the beach. Barbecues with neighbors, drinks on the deck, and being true to yourself. Falling in love and then experiencing the heartbreak of a breakup. Growing up, school, life choices, marriage, and careers get in the way of looking at what truly makes you happy. Cheers to first loves! Thanks to Netgalley for the Advanced Reader copy.

Oh I LOVED this. Nora Goes Off Script put Monaghan on my radar as a fave from last year so I was extremely excited to get to read Same Time Next Summer early. I took this book poolside on a beach trip - truly the best possible place to soak up this lovely story. Sam was so relatable - I FELT her hurt, her healing so deeply and I loved getting to see what happened in the past timeline and the present. Her chemistry with the ghost of Wyatt is so palpable and when he shows up, it's clear sparks are going to fly. I won't spoil the journey, but I loved it and I loved where this book had its soft landing. The prose is beautiful - all the beachy swimming and surfing contrasted with city Sam was so perfectly architected. Anyway, read it + love it! It's a triumph!

<i>Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.</i>

So many romance novels feature people who exist in various states of arrested development, at least until they meet their one true love. [author:Annabel Monaghan] writes love stories about adults who unexpectedly find their lives at a crossroads.

In [book:Same Time Next Summer], we meet Sam - happily engaged to her perfect doctor fiancé, happily working in her corporate restructuring job. After years of avoiding it, she and her fiancé are spending time at her parents’ beach house – the place where Sam spent her best memories as a child, and fell in love (and had her heart broken) by next door neighbor Wyatt.

Anyone who’s ever read a romance knows it’s not a spoiler to say Sam will eventually end things with the fiancé because her first love is her forever love. In this case, the story, fortunately, does not involve a massive betrayal or unforgivable behavior on any part of this love triangle, either in the present nor the past. Sam’s journey is as much about discovering who <i>she</i> is as much as it is about her finding her way back to Wyatt.

I tend to avoid reading YA romance (I prefer sticking with adult relationships, for the most part) and second chance romances with childhood sweethearts, including flashbacks to said childhood, can be dicey when it comes to developing a mature relationship between the main couple. Monaghan does a decent job of showing Sam and Wyatt confirming that their relationship as adults is more than just nostalgia for their love as children/teenagers.

I also really appreciated that <i>Same Time Next Summer</i> considers its leads within the context of complex family dynamics – how the example one’s parents set can have positive and negative impacts on their children’s lives, and Sam’s parents’ presence throughout the story was welcome and meaningful.

I loved this book. I also loved her first book but somehow this one is even better! i tore through it in two days and would have finished it in one if I hadn't had places I had to be - all I wanted was to get back to this book. The characters, the pacing, the setting, all a perfect summer / vacation read!

Summer. Childhood friends to lovers. Say no more. I loved this one. I really liked the main character Sam and her growth in the novel. There are many novels with a similar plot line to this one but felt this has something to make it different. For those who loved Every Summer After and Love and Other Words.

(5/5 stars)

“That’s the rest of my life, right there.” 🥹 (I’ll be swooning about this line for the rest of eternity)

Well, this author has done it again. Can she just write every book I read from here on out? If you loved her previous book, Nora Goes Off Script, you will love this one too. It follows Sam and Wyatt, as they grow up together going to the same beach every summer. The chapters alternate between these two narrators and their “now” and “then” as they navigate through their childhood and adulthood.

This is everything you hope and need it to be if you’re like me and still in a “Nora book hangover”. It’s sweet, touching, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. This is the 2nd second-chance love story I’ve read this month, and it’s quickly becoming my favorite genre. Coming out in June, this will be the perfect summer read! Now, I’ll be over here, twiddling my thumbs and impatiently waiting for Annabel Monaghan’s next book to be written…

I love a good second chance romance! Childhood friends to lovers will always get me. It was a good story and the writing was nice, nothing particularly stood out in this book to me however. I enjoyed the read but would not be a reread for me. I may however looking into reading some more books by this author as the writing was well done! Also loved the beach setting, perfect for an easy summer read!

3.75 stars rounding up to 4 because I'm being a little picky.

This was a very cute story. I very much enjoyed the vibes of the beach house and Sam's whole family. The flashbacks to Sam and Wyatt growing up together and falling in love as teenagers happens to be one of my favorite tropes (I eat it up every time I read it in a book about childhood friends falling in love at a beach house and then becoming strangers until like 10 years later which seems specific but in romance is fairly common it seems). There are a couple reasons this doesn't reach 4 stars for me but the main one is that it was actually maybe too short for me? We didn't get to spend much time with Sam and Wyatt as adults and I would have loved to have more interactions with Sam's family. I also got a little thrown off by the change from 1st person to 3rd person in the flashbacks.

I also just need to add that I hate Dr. Judy and I think she was a gaslighter who never should have been able to be a therapist for a child. She had our girl Sam out here believing the love she felt for Wyatt and from Wyatt was never actually real.

At the end of the day, I would still recommend this to those who love a quick and easy beach read and I'm excited to see what this author does next.
