Thank you to G.P. Putnam’s Son’s, Penguin Random House, and Annabel Monaghan for my ARC of Same Time Next Summer.
Nora Goes Off Script was one of my favorite books from last year. I first heard about it on the From the Front Porch podcast and was able to request an early copy. Much to my surprise, the publisher reached out to send me Monaghan’s second novel and I immediately devoured it.
Same Time Next Summer has two main perspectives, Sam and Wyatt. We meet Sam when her life is going well. She is engaged to a doctor. They have their routines like working out and playing tennis. But one day they go to Sam’s family’s Long Island beach house to look at wedding venues and Sam realizes that something about her life isn’t what she had planned. She should be happy, but yet, maybe she isn’t being true to herself.
We then meet Wyatt, the musician that Sam was in love with when she was younger. He too is back on Long Island and when Sam and Wyatt meet again, the tension is in the air. Is that spark still alive? As Sam and Wyatt spend time together, Sam begins to revisit her feelings about everything that happened between her and Wyatt long ago. Sam has some choices to make about her life and the path she wants to live.
Annabel Monaghan has a way of writing that draws the reader into the book. She writes with metaphors that transport the reader into the beach setting of Same Time Next Summer. There is something different about Annabel’s writing that makes this more than a romance. The characters are so relatable. Their flaws are shown but they are lovable as well. The chapters are short and I found myself turning the pages rapidly to spend more time in the lives of Sam and Wyatt.
This is going to be the novel of the summer! This is for fans of Carley Fortune and Emily Henry. Annabel Monaghan is a must read author for me. Even though I received an early copy, I will be buying copies for friends and family (and myself!) as I know this is going to be a hit for so many of my favorite readers.
This is my favorite book I’ve read so far this year. Same Time Next Summer comes out on June 6, 2023. Get your beach bag ready and pre-order this book. It’s going to be the perfect companion for a day reading on the beach or by the pool on your next vacation.
Nora Goes Off Script was one of my top ten favorite books of 2022. So my expectations were sky high for this new book, and I was so excited and grateful to receive this gifted e-ARC of this book in exchange for my honest feedback. Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam!
In my opinion, the novel gets off to a slow start. It took me awhile to connect with the characters. But once you make that connection, it's a satisfying and enjoyable read. I'll always look forward to reading future books by Annabel Monaghan.
HR Consultant Sam and her buttoned up doctor fiancé Jack are headed out of NYC to spend a week with Sam’s parents at their beach house on Long Island. The house where Sam grew up spending summers, fell in love with the boy next door, and had her heart broken. Sam’s dread of visiting as an adult intensifies when she finds the boy next door has returned. Has she been lying to herself about being happy in her picture perfect NYC life?
Annabel Monaghan has become a must read for me. She’s once again crafted a beautiful story about being true to yourself and falling in love. A summer beach read that I devoured in a day, this is a must read for anyone looking for characters that will capture their hearts.
Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group for the ARC in exchange for a fair review.
Nora Goes Off Script was one of my favorite books of 2022 so I was eagerly anticipating Same Time Next Summer and I'm delighted to say that I loved it so much, too!
Sam is 30 years old when she and her doctor fiance, Jack, visit her family's Long Island summer home. Sam spent her childhood summers at the beach, surfing the waves, and falling in love with nextdoor neighbor Wyatt until an event (and their teenage reactions) tore them apart.
Since then, Sam has crafted a neat and safe life and is ready to continue on that path with Jack. But when they return to her family's home on Long Island and she spends some time with Wyatt (who's full of surprises) after many years apart, she begins to question this safe and careful life that she's living.
Same Time Next Summer is a wonderful experience, a beautiful escape, and sure to be THE beach read of 2023.
Thank you so much to NetGalley for the ARC.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sam and Wyatt grew up spending summers together on Long Island. They were first loves and they broke each other's hearts. 14 years later, they have both supposedlyhealed from the heartache and moved on when they see each other again at their families neighboring beach houses. Sam is getting married soon and is trying to nail down all the details of her wedding.
The story goes back and forth between the present and the past with alternating POVs from Sam and Wyatt. I loved getting a glimpse into them falling in love when they were teenagers! Neither of them is really living their best life currently and a trip to the beach seems like exactly what they each (unknowingly) need to get the perspective they need to turn it around.
I loved this author's first book, Nora Goes off Script, so when I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of her latest, I jumped at the chance. This book was so good! The perfect amount of drama and heart break, and I literally had a smile on my face when I finished it. Annabel Monaghan has just become an auto buy author for me. I can't wait to read whatever she comes up with next!
This will be a hit this summer for sure--beach setting, recollections of a teenage romance, and a young narrator named Sam who is remembering her family's quirky artistic charms as she spends a week at the family beach house with her new fiancé. The characters are all likable, even the "too perfect" fiancé. This is very predictable, though, and I wanted more backstory about Wyatt, the next door neighbor neighbor Sam once loved. I also think the book could have been a tiny bit longer, but it was a fun, fast read for me, and I'm sure you will see it in beach bags all summer long!
Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan was breathtakingly nostalgic and dripping with the hunger and excitement of first love. Sam and Wyatt grew up spending every summer together until a scandal implodes their relationship and families connection. 16 years later, Sam is engaged and exploring wedding venues at the beach when their paths cross again. Ripe with tension, this dual timeline and dual POV plot had me staying up past bedtime to finish!
Readers will love:
Dual POV
Dual Timeline
Childhood Friends
First Love
Family Drama
Second Chance Romance
This read needs to be added to your Beach/Vacation read TBR today!
liked Same Time Next Summer by .I loved the dual times and POV. It was nice seeing the present feelings mixed with past happenings.
Most of the characters were great. And I loved seeing Sam and Wyatt grow and get over their pasts.
Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin for a copy of Same Time Next Summer in exchange of an honest review.
If you liked Every Summer After definitely check this one out when it’s released in June!
Same Time Next Summer is the perfect summer beach read about forgiveness and second-chance relationships—you can almost smell the ocean and feel the breeze on your skin. I found the story predictable, but still fun and engaging, similar to a Hallmark movie. The author developed the characters so well that I felt like I knew them personally. I look forward to reading more books by Annabel Monaghan. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
When I first read the summary I was ready to pass on it but decided to give it a chance since I absolutely loved Nora Goes Off Script. I am very happy to say that I will definitely be reading anything this author writes now.
The plot of the book is very similar to Love and Other Words but only in the plot device (or is this a trope now?) of teens get together every summer and fall in love, have a major devastating breakup and then meet up again as adults while one of them is engaged. There are major differences between both books though, especially this one is not heartbreaking and a tearjerker. Another difference is I feel like you got the chance to go on a full journey with Sam. The book starts out with her fully holding herself back and repressing herself and then as the book moves on you see her slowly coming back to herself.
So if you liked Love and Other Words then give this one a chance too.
*Many thanks to Penguin Group Putnam, Annabel Monaghan, and Netgalley for my gifted eARC. Publication date 6/6/23*
Sam and Wyatt were neighbors growing up at their family's beach houses every summer. They instantly became friends and then became more over the years. Madly in love with each other in their teenage years something happens that tears them apart. 15 years later Sam returns to her family's beach house to plan her wedding with her fiancee Jack and she unexpectedly runs into Wyatt.
I loved Nora Goes Off Script and I was so excited to get an early copy of this one and it definitely did not disappoint. There is just something about Monaghan's writing that just pulls you in. I loved the alternating POV'S, the short chapters, and the beach setting. This will be a great summer read that I highly recommend.
Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan is the perfect summer beach read! This book has alternating timelines between the past and present which I loved, as well as dual POV. I also fell in love with all of the wonderful characters in this novel. This is a beautifully written and emotionally addicting story. If you’d like, small town drama and a second chance at romance, this book is for you.
I was a huge fan of Nora Goes off Script so when I saw Same Time Next Summer pop up I knew I needed to read it! I loved this second chance romance. The "Then" coming of age, love story was so sweet and the present timeline was emotionally charged. I could feel the chemistry between Wyatt and Sam. This is destined to be the perfect summer book!!
Sam and Wyatt fell in love with each other over the course of twelve summers. Then when Sam was seventeen, Wyatt broke her heart causing her to stop returning to Long Island and her family’s beach home. For the first time in fourteen years, Sam is returning to the beach house and she’s bringing her fiancé. However, Wyatt is also back and living next door in his parent’s beach house. Sam tries to ignore all of the feelings that seeing Wyatt brings up. However, the more time she spends near him, the more she starts to question if she is really living the life she wants.
Same Time Next Summer is a friends-to-lovers, second-chance romance told in dual timelines similar to Love and Other Words, Every Summer After and The Infinity Between Us. This is definitely one of my favorite tropes and story telling methods to read, and Same Time Next Summer delivers an entertaining story. I almost read the whole book in one sitting.
I can see this book becoming extremely popular this summer. I really enjoyed this book, however, I did feel like there were a few issues with the story. The book is told between alternating POVs and in different timelines. However, the alternating POVs and timelines aren’t necessarily consistent. Towards the end of the book, the majority of the story was told from Sam‘s POV. Then all of a sudden there’s just one random Wyatt chapter. I felt like this either needed to be more consistent in alternating or just told from one character. However, I really did enjoy reading from Wyatt’s POV and wish we could have had more “now” chapters from him. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there is definitely a character I wish we could have seen him interact with since this character is the catalyst for the whole relationship ending.
The book also wraps up very quickly. I really wish there would have been a few more chapters or even an epilogue because I would have loved to see more of Sam and Wyatt together as adults and talk more about what actually broke them up in the first place. I feel like they spend very little time together which makes their reconciliation a little unbelievable. I also wish Jack didn’t stay in the story for as long as he does since the reader knows that Sam and Wyatt are going to get together.
Lastly, there is a plot point in which you need to suspend all disbelief to believe. There is no way this would be possible in todays day and age.
The dual timeline, friends-to-lovers story is definitely one of my favorites and I think that’s why I had a few critiques with this book. Theres quite a few books like this, so I think it’s important that they set themselves apart. With that being said, this was a fun read for me and it definitely makes me want to pick up the author’s other book Nora Goes Off Script.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for giving me an ARC copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was a fun read-pretty predicable but fun. Thanks to @netgalley for the advance readers copy. #sametimenextsummer #annabelmonaghan #netgalley #advancedreaderscopy Sam goes back to her parents very laid back beach house with her very buttoned up fiancé. She hasn't seen the boy next door, her true love, since she was a teenager and family drama broke them up. The characters are lovable, and the beach scenery is great. Light and enjoyable. #bookstagram #booklover #reader #bookblog #lovetoread #fictionreader #bookreview #bookrecommendation #readersofinstagram #bookloversofinstagram #takeapagefrommybook #readallthebooks #booksbooksbooks

Sam's heart was broken by her summer love Wyatt 13 years ago. She is now engaged to organized and staid Dr. Jack and planning their wedding. Sam runs into Wyatt after all these years and old feelings and new truths are revealed.
I loved both the Sam and Wyatt characters. I enjoyed the book.
Same Time Next Summer
by Annabel Monoghan
Pub Date: June 6, 2023
Penguin
Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
The ultimate summer nostalgia read, about an engaged woman who comes face to face with her first love who she hasn't seen in fourteen years, but who she spent every summer with from age five to seventeen when he broke her heart, calling into question everything she thought she knew about their love story, and herself.
I was eager to read this book, because Nora Goes Off Script might be my favorite Women's fiction/romance book of 2022. This book seemed slighly short. I wanted to know the characters more.
Nora is still my favorite book of Monoghan's.

Same Time Next Summer is a sweet, second-chance love story and enjoyable follow-up novel from Annabel Monaghan, the author of Nora Goes Off Script. It follows Sam as she returns, for the first time in fourteen years, to the family beach house—the place where she used to vacation every summer growing up and where she fell in love for the first time with Wyatt, the boy next door—with her new fiancé, Jack, in tow. Sam hasn't seen or talked to Wyatt since their bad break-up when she was seventeen years old, and the last thing she wants or expects is to run into him at the beach house—which she does, shocker!—and be forced to deal with her unresolved feelings for him.
About two-thirds of the story takes place in the present—where Sam and Wyatt are thirty and thirty-one years old, respectively—and the other one-third of the story takes place in the past, covering their relationship as kids and teens, with chapters from both Sam's and Wyatt's POV. That said, most of the flashbacks felt like filler to me, since they weren't really written to make the reader fall in love with Wyatt along with Sam; they were much too surface level and summary-like for that—told, not shown. Nor did the flashbacks reveal some major drama that the reader really needed to experience by reading about it firsthand to understand, à la Before We Were Strangers. And in my opinion, most of the flashbacks could have been cut from the story completely and replaced with more scenes in the present (more like a Will They or Won't They-type model). This would've helped to make the characters a little less flat, I think, as well as to give us more time with Wyatt and Sam—and for them to re-fall in love—in the present, making the story stronger.
I decided to pick up Same Time Next Summer after finishing Monaghan's adult debut, Nora Goes Off Script—which I had picked up on a whim, not expecting much from it—and being completely blown away by it (in the best possible way). While I didn't enjoy Same Time Next Summer as much as Nora Goes Off Script (which is a new favorite of mine), it was still an overall enjoyable read that was light and breezy and heartwarming, perfect for a day on the beach or quiet night in.
Fans of Every Summer After and Don't You Forget About Me are sure to find a new favorite in Same Time Next Summer.

I loved this book so much! The characters felt homey and believable. I liked that it was mostly told from Sam’s point of view but we did hear from Wyatt towards the end. I would have liked a little more of the break up fall out with Jack but I thought it was buttoned up nicely! Overall a cute beach read!!
This was a really cute summer romance childhood lovers story that follows Wyatt and Sam through dual POV. Sam and Wyatt spent their summers growing up running between each other’s houses on the Long Island shore. They spent their time swimming to the cove and hanging out in Elliot’s treehouse. Before college, they lose touch and don’t see each other until Sam shows up back at her family’s home the summer before her wedding, fiancé Jack in tow. Their reunion brings back feelings of true love, summer bliss and heartbreak. This book follows Sam and Wyatt as they navigate what they mean to each other now and if there is room for each other in their lives.
This was a lighthearted, quick paced read, I was able to finish it in one sitting. I really really enjoyed this and was a great weekend read, would have been even better to read on the beach. I wish there had been an epilogue, I was left wanting even more!
