I think Annabel Monaghan is becoming one of my favorite summer reads authors. So far both of her books have been 5* reads for me. They’re lighthearted, feel good, and the perfect beach read. This books was no exception and just solidifies her for me as an instant buy kind of author. While this story was predictable, I just fell in love with Wyatt and Sam. Sam was annoying at some points it was nice to see her grow back into herself as a character. Thank you NetGalley and G. P. Putnam for the ARC of this book 🫶🏽
This is gonna be one of the 2023 Books of the Summer. I just know it.
I absolutely adored Nora Goes Off Script. So when I found out that Annabel Monaghan had another book coming out soon, I knew I would be obsessed. Monaghan knocked it out of the park with this one, and I can’t wait to read what she does next.
I am a sucker for a second-chance, friends to lovers, dual timelines story, and Same Time Next Summer did not disappoint.
This book is great for anyone who loves Carley Fortune, Emily Henry, Jewel E. Ann.
Getting to experience Sam and Wyatt’s love blossom from ages 5 to eventually 30 was an absolute dream. The dual POVs helped, as a reader, show that Wyatt was obsessed with Sam as she was with him.
Monaghan has a way of explaining the inner thoughts of a character in such a detail that is still intriguing, which is really difficult to find in some romance novels these days. In other books, I would find myself skipping past an inner monologue of a character, but here I wanted to know more and more about Sam and Wyatt’s thoughts, feelings, and motivations.
Overall, Monaghan is becoming an automatic read author for me.
THIS book solidifies Annabel Monaghan as an auto-buy author for me!!! I loved her first book “Nora Goes Off Script”, but this folks is even better. It is the perfect summertime (or anytime!) book that tells of nostalgic teenaged love; -with a second-chance love story between Wyatt our guitar-playing hero, and Sam our restless heroine looking for more out of her current life. It’s sweet and funny, with a heart-melting, meant-to-be romance.
As children, the two reunited every summer at the shore (their parents Long Island beach homes are next door to each other), growing older and experiencing first love.. but at 18-years-old Wyatt and Sam aged 17 are both heartbroken after something shocking happens between their two families.. never to see each other again..
until now..
14-years later, New Yorker Sam is engaged (to someone else) and planning her wedding.. coincidentally.. at the same place she fell in love with Wyatt as a teen. It doesn’t take much to see that her fiancé isn’t right for her.. I was rooting for her to see it, to get her act together (and throw that one back!) I enjoyed how throughout the book.. she eventually finds her way to the person she once was.. and with the one person that sees her for who she really is. This was so good, yes it’s a romance but there’s so much more to this story. Anyone looking for something fun and nostalgic should read it! ❥ 5 stars — Pub. 6/6/23
Much thanks to the publisher via NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This is an absolute must read this summer. Now I want to travel to Long Island and hang out with artsy parents. Genuinely loved the now/then format of the story and felt so much for the main character. 10/10 recommend!
Review: Same Time Next Summer
Rating: 4.5/5
Publication date: June 6, 2023
This book was wonderful! I don't read a ton of romance, but apparently when I do, it should be Annabel's books. I found the voices to be mature and relatable. The build-up felt real. I also felt the magic of the beach in this story. I haven't been to Long Island but now I feel like I have. It really brought out the juxtaposition of two in the characters in this book. I don't want to give it away, so I guess you'll need to pre-order your copy!
And in honor of Same and Wyatt, I had to choose a beach picture. As Sam would say, "meet me at the beach!" Just don't forget your copy of this book.
THANK YOU to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam/ G. P. Putnam’s Sons for sharing this digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest thoughts.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy of Same Time Next Summer.
After reading and loving Nora Goes Off Script, I was beyond excited to get approved for the author’s upcoming new release.
I must say Same Time Next Summer missed the mark for me. I think the characters development and story progression was lacking. There was something about the way the book was written, and the dialogues that just didn’t click with me. I could never warm up to Sam. She wasn’t a very likable character. You can see from a mile away that her relationship with Jack wasn’t well fitting and the chemistry was absolutely nonexistent.
The book was giving me Every Summer After vibes, a book I read and did not like.
Im not usually a big fan of second chance romance but I freaking loved this book. To me the romance was more of a subplot and the story focused more on Sam discovery and finding herself. This was a very refreshing story.
As Sam is trying to find herself again she's also developing a relationship with Wyatt again. I really liked that even though they are still some lingering feeling from when they dated as teenagers nothing but a friendship happened between them(she has a fiance so I was really happy she didn't cheat).
Their friendship was something that Sam definitely needed to help her wake up and realize she hasn't actually been living the live she wants. Both characters were really mature and very easy to like. They were able to give each other advice and just be there for one another.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Second chance romance that will make your heart hurt. Sam is at a crossroads with her fiancé and her first love. Perfect summer beach read! The chapters take you back to every summer that Sam and Wyatt shared. It reminded me of the people we meet on vacation, and love and other words.
Thanks to Netgalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I had high hopes for this book after previously reading Nora Goes Off Script. I was not disappointed as this story hooked me from the beginning.
I enjoyed the alternating POV’s but enjoyed hearing Sam’s the most as I can empathize with feeling like you’ve been shoehorned into someone else’s version of the perfect wife to be by someone who doesn’t really see you for who you are.
This second chance romance should come with a free trip to the beach as you can feel it almost as another part of the love story.
Yes, the story could be a little slow at parts and Jack was a total douchecanoe but I overall I loved this as a summer Beach read that you’ll want to toss in your bag with your sunscreen.
Overall: Read this if you enjoy second chance beach vibe romances.
Same Time Next Summer is the story of Sam, Wyatt, their families, and how one night changed everything.
Sam and Wyatt were summer neighbors from childhood until high school. Friendship turned to love and they thought they would be together forever. When one night changes everything Wyatt ghosts Sam, sending both of them apart for over a decade.
When Sam returns to the beach house, engaged and supposed to be planning a wedding, she’s shocked to find Wyatt next door.
I really felt the characters lacked depth and emotional maturity. The story pacing was off and the side characters muddled the story. I was really hoping for a big communication moment, it never came. Even at the end.
I keep having to google if the author has kids. This is the second book where poor parenting decisions seem to be the catalyst for the issues. Also, why did no one fire Dr. Judy? She was awful.
This was the perfect summer read second chance at a happy ending with your first love and all takes place at the beach. I definitely wanted to be reading this outside on a patio or at the water! Sam is at her family's beach house for a week with her perfect on paper fiancee to plan their upcoming wedding. Her first love is also next door at his family's house for the week as well and she hasn't seen him since he broke her heart over ten years ago. Sam starts to wonder in the perfectly planned life she has is what she really wants while being back at the beach starts to bring her back to the person she used to be. I really enjoyed this book loved the descriptions of the small Long Island town where the beach house was and felt like I was there. I connected to all the characters and could understand why they made the choices they did and liked that it was in dual point of view. 4 star read for me! I want to thank NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
A second chance romance set at the beach… I knew I would love this book before I even started reading, and I was not disappointed.
Sam is a strong main character - she’s gotten caught up in creating a safe life and needs a little help remembering just how amazing life can be. The beach (and a run-in with the former love of her life) has her feeling more like herself than she has in years… and questioning the life she’s been living.
Annabel Monaghan did it again with this book. "Nora Goes Off Script" was one of my favorite books of 2022 and I was so excited to read "Same Time Next Summer". This book is told in alternating POVs and timelines between Sam/Samantha and Wyatt. They were first loves and are both back at their summer homes. They have both moved on in their lives...but have they really? Read the book to find out what happens. I really loved the writing style and the story.
This was one of my most anticipated releases and it did not disappoint. I devoured this in one sitting. Perfect book to read by the pool or the beach.
I just reviewed Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan. #SameTimeNextSummer #NetGalley

Second chance is one of my favorite tropes, and Sam and Wyatt did it so well (and this was set at a beach house, so bonus points for that). Annabelle Monaghan did such a good job with this- seeing them fall in love as kids and then come back to each other as adults all felt so natural.
The structure of this book was a bit off to me. I really enjoyed the past/present timeline in the first half of the book, but I think their relationship in the present wasn’t developed very well. It took a REALLY long time for Sam to break up with her fiancé and get back together with Wyatt, but it wasn’t really a slow burn. It felt like there was a lot of detail about their personal lives but not about them together, which made the ending feel kind of rushed. I really enjoyed this book, I just think that the pacing wasn’t right for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first time reading a book by Annabel Monaghan but I had heard amazing things about her previous book, Nora Goes Off Script. So when I had the opportunity to read this book early, I jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately, I didn't love it as much as I had hoped. I read this while at the beach, and I have to say it makes for a decent beach read. But I really struggled while reading this one. Though it was cute, I feel like the overall plot is a very tired idea. I've read so many books like this and they just aren't all that different. I kept hoping for something to happen that would make this book stand out from the others, but that never happened.
"If you've loved someone your whole life, it kind of makes sense that you'd love them forever."
It may be February but this was the perfect book to get me into the summer mood. I sped through this book and fell in love with the beach house setting and coming of age romance.
Every summer, Wyatt and Sam reunite at the beach spending their days swimming, surfing and falling in love. When something shocking happens that rips their families apart, Wyatt and Sam are left heartbroken at 17.
Alternating between then and now, this story shows how things fell apart and how Wyatt and Sam struggle to move forward.
Thank you, @annabelmonaghan and @netgalley for this wonderful read.
Nora Goes Off Script was one of my top books of 2022 and I absolutely loved Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan!
This book is a perfect summer book that you will not be able to put down. It tells the story of the long lost relationship of Sam and Wyatt who she hasn’t seen for a decade when she returns to her family’s beach home with her fiancé for a week in the summer.
I really enjoyed the dual timelines and POVs and I wasn’t able to put this book down! This is a 5 star read for me. I recommend reading it when it publishes on June 6, 2023. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group Putnam for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley, Annabel Monaghan and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for an arc of Same Time Next Summer in exchange for an honest review. This review is wholly my own & may not be reproduced.
I LOVED Nora Goes Off Script, so I knew I was on board for Annabel Monaghan’s next novel. If you love authors like Katherine Center & Mazey Eddings, you definitely need to read Annabel Monaghan. You’ll fall in love! This book is a PERFECT beach read & with a June 6, 2023, release date, you can pick it up just in time for your vacay.
First loves die hard. Or sometimes the don’t really die at all, they just play opossum.
Sam is engaged to Jack, a wonderful doctor & fiancé. She returns home to scope out a wedding venue when her past smacks her in the face in the form of her first love, Wyatt, who broke her heart at 17. She know she shouldn’t feel a pull toward Wyatt since she has the seemingly perfect life at the time, but she just can’t help it. Will Sam & Wyatt rekindle their romance and give in to their strong connection or will Sam realize the wonderful man she already has and stay true to Jack? You’re going to have to pick this one up to find out.
This story takes place in a wonderful Long Island beach setting. I loved both MC in this story as much as I did in Nora. You’ll fall for them hard and will be left wanting more when you get to the last page. This was one of two novels I flew through this past Saturday. It is easy to get lost in and will keep you turning the pages. I highly recommend picking this one up this summer!

I received this book as an ARC on Netgalley.
I loved this book but was so disappointed at the ended. I needed more. I felt that it just abruptly ended. It didn't do a good job of wrapping up the story for me. BUT I absolutely loved the story of how Sam and Wyatts young love was both of their BIG love! When they end up back in town at the same time for summer, you know that sparks are gunna fly again. So cute but the ending could have been better!
