I love these types of books! Second chance lovers and time jumps are my jam. I really enjoyed reading it and loved the characters. Such a good summer read with some surprises!
Thank you NetGalley and Annabel Monaghan!
Sam returns to her family’s beach house with her fiancé and she unexpectedly runs into her first love, Wyatt, who broke her heart 14 years ago. Memories come flooding back and make Sam remember the person she used to be. She can’t deny the connection her and Wyatt once shared is still there and knows she will have to make a choice. But is true love worth the risk?
An absolutely charming second-chance romance that will have you longing for summer days at the beach.
I really enjoyed how this story was told in the Now/Then timeline as well as alternating character POVs. It really allowed me to understand what Sam and Wyatt were going through during their entire friendship turned love. Though I do wish I would have gotten more from Wyatt in the Now. Annabel Monaghan is a beautiful story teller and I am a fan for life. I loved it and would definitely recommend for your 2023 summer reading list!
3.5⭐️ // thanks to NetGalley for the ARC! I was so excited to read this because I loved Nora Goes Off Script. I did enjoy the story, but felt a little disconnected from Sam and Wyatt. Still very cute, we love a summer romance!
Loved it! I read 'Nora Goes Off Script' by the same author a few months ago, and this was very similar to it. I love the author's writing style and the storyline drew me in immediately. The dual timeline worked really well for this story and I also enjoyed the brief dual perspective (although I wish there was more from Wyatt's perspective). Overall, this was a really sweet and I highly recommend giving it a read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Putnam for the eARC.
SAME TIME NEXT SUMMER // Annabel Monaghan
Do yourself a favor and go ahead and bookmark this one for next summer - it will be published on June 6th, 2023! Same Time Next Summer is the PERFECT summer read - perfectly paired with some sand between your toes and beach beer in your hand.
Sam returns to her family’s beach house in Long Island with her life seemingly all together - she has the perfect fiancé (who might be a little bit boring), a great job (which she may get fired from), and she is definitely over her teenage boyfriend, Wyatt (but she definitely doesn’t want to see him again). So when Wyatt happens to be staying at the house next door, everything will be okay, right??
We all know I am a sucker for a second chance romance, and this one hits all the boxes. Couple that with Sam’s adorable family, and a plot twist that I definitely did not see coming, and you will not be able to put this one down!
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 3.5/5
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to Putnam Books and NetGalley for allowing me this opportunity.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Penguin for this arc!
A second chance romance! A friends to lovers! that too a young lovers to grow adults who find each other again second chance romance?! Love to see it.
I think if you enjoyed Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, Beach Read by Emily Henry, The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han, or Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren, you will most probably love this one. It has all the vibes of a good summer read and you will get misty eyed by the end as I did.
I liked the overall story, there was a lot of love and a lot emotions that will make you fall in love with the characters and their story.
Short Summary of the story:
Sam brings her fiancé, Jack, to stay at her parents summer house for a week. Practical, laced-up Jack is all about structure and the indoors. Sam’s family is carefree and live outside in the summer. Sam struggles with who she was versus who she is now in relation to Jack and her family. BUT then her high school love Wyatt is back. And living in the house next door.
This was a surprisingly interesting read! It’s been a long time since I fell in love with a story so much that and did not want to put the book down. Same Time Next Summer follows Sam from growing up on the shores of Long Island during the summer and falling in love with Wyatt, to when she’s back on Long Island planning her upcoming wedding to Jack. Without giving much away a somewhat love triangle blossoms. The author does such an amazing job writing flawed, believable characters that I couldn’t help but love. At the same time the ending fell a little flat for me. Overall a great read and would recommend.

Thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Group Putnam for sharing this ARC.
This book was a sweet summer romance/second chance at love that was very reminiscent of Emily Henry ("People We Meet on Vacation") or Carley Fortune ("Every Summer After"). While the plot was fairly predictable, I enjoyed seeing Sam and Wyatt's journey from friends to lovers through the alternating timelines. I have not read any other books by Annabel Monaghan but I will definitely be checking them out now!
Sam and Wyatt are next door neighbors, and each other’s first love. They cannot imagine their lives without one another…until a shocking event on a summer evening tears them apart. Fast forward 12 years, and Sam is back in Long Island with her fiancé looking at wedding venues. Wyatt happens to be in town at the same time, and both are forced to reckon with unresolved feelings, truths, and demons. This is the perfect summer read for so many reasons. The beach setting is so lovingly detailed, and the love story is a familiar one. Wyatt and Sam are easy to root for, and just like in Nora Goes Off Script, the supporting characters are also funny, sweet and complicated. I didn’t love this one QUITE as much as Nora, but I really, really liked it. I know this will sell SO well for us as a wonderful, warm and light hearted summer read!
I absolutely LOVED this book - so much so that Thanksgiving dinner was a little late simply because I didn't want to put it down - just so I could figure out what was happening next (okay, and to totally cheer on Wyatt!!) Sam and Wyatt's love story was so sweet - until it was sidetracked by a family indiscretion that was followed by hurt feelings, a touch of destruction and eventually the loss of years of of "what could have been" Enter Jack - perfect on paper - rule follower - regimented - willing to lead. At this point in her life, Sam is willing to do the same (except the lead part - she's super comfy following Jack) because feelings and opinions are messy. Oh but then there's Wyatt ;) Just read it.... Fabulous tale of first love, first heart break, first all the good stuff and finally..... Well - I'll let you find out for yourself. Seriously though - You need this ray of sunshine in your life. I'm leaving this honest review in exchange for a digital copy of this fabulous book by Netgalley. Can't wait to see what Ms Monaghan has in store for me next!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ultimate nostalgic summer read about second chance romance! I picked up this book because I absolutely loved the author’s previous book of “Nora Goes Off Script”.
Plot: An engaged Sam returns to the summer beach house she visited as a kid to check out a wedding venue. She comes across her childhood sweetheart, Wyatt and seeing him brings a battle of conflict and unresolved issues for her.
Spice level: 🌶. In terms of spice, it’s mostly closed door romance.
Reminds me of “Every Summer After”but with less YA angst. Told from two POV of the MCs, it tells a story of young love, how our first heartbreak can shape our future relationships. Her tone is the book is more mature and beautifully written. I experience her memories in the small details of what it like growing up there during the summers.
Overall, I kept looking forward to returning to this book, it’s characters and most importantly the MC! The romance is realistic and they made decisions based on being ready after working on themselves. I appreciated they were fully formed characters. I am always in for the romance and they got together at the right time!
Thank you to NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!
I enjoyed this sweet second chance romance and it was the perfect thing to make me feel summery even though it’s cold and winter outside right now. Definitely recommend for a great beach read or if you wanna feel like you’re at the beach.
I'm a sucker for a second chance romance, especially if the couple fell in love as teenagers because they were summer neighbors in a beach side community. And something very bad happens that they break up abruptly (which we the readers clutch our pearls waiting for the BAD THING to be revealed in at the 60% mark of the book) and don't see each other ten or twelve years later. I want to hate this trope, especially because the BAD THING usually is a let down, and my cold cynical heart doesn't believe in teenage love. But, I love this trope (looking at you Love and Other Words and Every Summer After).
Anyways, Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan, fits nicely into the second chance romance genre. The summer flashbacks were sun filled and frothy. The character growth in the present day worked well. Monaghan has a very breezy writing style, which I first encountered in Nora Goes Off Script, and this book was a nice light treat to end the Thanksgiving weekend.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin for this ARC!
Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan
Beach Rules:
Do take long walks on the sand.
Do put an umbrella in every cocktail.
Do NOT run into your first love.
Sam’s life is on track. She has the perfect doctor fiancé, Jack (his strict routines are a good thing, really), a great job in Manhattan (unless they fire her), and is about to tour a wedding venue near her family’s Long Island beach house. Everything should go to plan, yet the minute she arrives, Sam senses something is off. Wyatt is here. Her Wyatt. But there’s no reason for a thirty-year-old engaged woman to feel panicked around the guy who broke her heart when she was seventeen. Right?
Yet being back at this beach, hearing notes from Wyatt’s guitar float across the night air from next door as if no time has passed—Sam’s memories come flooding back: the feel of Wyatt’s skin on hers, their nights in the treehouse, and the truth behind their split. Sam remembers who she used to be, and as Wyatt reenters her life their connection is as undeniable as it always was. She will have to make a choice.

Thank you NetGalley for an ARC of STNS! I am a huge fan of Monaghan’s book Nora Goes Off Script and I loved this so much! It reminded me of Every Summer After by Carley Fortune. Absolutely amazing!

Same Time Next Summer by Annabel Monaghan is a delightful read and will give you young love butterflies! After loving her debut novel, Same Time Next Summer brings the same charm and heartwarming story.
Between two alternating timelines, Sam is in high school falling for her neighbor and friend, Wyatt, while summering at her beach home. Now, returning to the beach with her perfect-on-paper fiancé, Jack, to plan their wedding. Wyatt reenters Sam’s life and makes her revisit lost feelings.
Same Time Next Summer is the perfect beach read that screams summer. It will keep you turning the pages and invested in Sam’s story.
Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
5 out of 5 stars! I went into this book with expectations of a cute, light hearted "Hallmark Channel" type romance. What I got was so much better! This is a love story for the age, and felt very "The Notebook" to me. The characters are beautifully flawed, and their emotions are real. You feel their pain, their love, their heartache and heartbreak.
I haven't rooted for a couple like this in a long time! The best part - there are some surprises and unpredictability to the story that I really enjoyed. Many romances or chick lit have pretty standard tropes and you can see the plot twist ahead of time, but this was a fresh story with surprises throughout.
Highly recommend!

Release Date: 6/6/23
Nora Goes Off Script was one of my favorite reads of 2022, so when I saw Same Time Next Summer, I went into it with high hopes. I am happy to say that this book did not disappoint.
I loved the characters in this story. You see them for who they are, and how they evolve as people. I love the family dynamics as well.
Sam and Wyatt’s relationship is slow to evolve (their entire lives, really), but you can feel their connection, and that is really special.
This is definitely a fun summer read, but there are some great thought provoking pieces of it too.
I highly recommend adding Same Time Next Summer to your Summer 2023 Reading List!
If you love second chances romance AND finding who you are fiction then this is a great pick - Sam was once a carefree and creative person. Until the boy next door broke her heart. Years later, she returns with her perfect fiance to plan their wedding. Not only does she come face to face with Wyatt - the boy who broke her heart - she sees how far away from she has become. Wyatt helps her rediscover her joy and happiness that has been missing for over ten years.
I found this a beautiful story and could not out it down once I began reading it!
This was the first book I read by this Author, but it won't be the last!
This was a cute book and a fast read. I really enjoyed the dual POV and the alternating storyline between the present and the past.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the book.
I really enjoyed this sweet romance -- my first by this author but now I am excited to go back and read her other books.
Sam is bringing her fiancé to her family's beach house for the first time, and is surprised to run in to her boy-next-door first love, who she hasn't seen since her heart was broken. The story alternates between present day and past, with chapters narrated by Sam as well as Wyatt.
I loved being able to fill in the pieces of their past as they learn to relate to each other in the present. I really enjoyed the setting and could vividly picture the beach, the ocean, and the linden tree.
I also adored all the side characters -- especially Sam's parents and her younger sister. The descriptions of her parents and their various projects and passions was so detailed, I could imagine all of it.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!
