This book is Groundhog Day meets hallmark movie and I loved it! I can’t imagine a better story for the holidays.

I apparently love a time loop story! The predictability of it makes me so happy?! And one that happens in Christmas? Because Christmas can already be stressful? But the magic of a time loop is so fun, even though it’s predictable it’s so good every time. I loved this book so much.

Gwen is stuck. She’s unhappy with her job, unsure if she should go back after the holidays. Her long term boyfriend was cheating on her. And now she has to go home and pretend like everything is all right.

Every loop was so good. She went through trying to grant everyone’s wishes, because that HAS to be the solution. She learns so much about every person in her family that she never would have otherwise. And even though they don’t remember she does and she has a greater respect for all of them. Of course, the way to solve the time loop is to really focus on herself and she is able to do that after helping everyone else. Seeing her find her happy again was so good! It’s rough to watch her struggle through a time loop when everything keeps going wrong.

I loved all of her family members. Her dad’s nickname for her was chicken, and I for whatever reason love. Her cousin Manny is my absolute favorite. Whenever she confided in him about the time loop he didn’t even think twice, he believed her no problem. And we all need a Manny in our lives.

And Dev. He was just in the background the whole time, her childhood crush, the friend who she lost touch with years ago. But now he’s back and better than ever! Their small love story, which was of course one was the more important parts of Gwen’s story, was so sweet!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Harper360, and Harper Collins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

While this was not the first Christmas time loop romance I’ve read, it has been my favorite!

Gwen travels to the countryside to spend the holidays with her family in the hopes it will help her come to terms with her long-term relationship ending and being put in leave from work.

As Gwen relives Christmas Day again and again we see her work through her grief and repair the relationships she has with her family. During her time back home, Gwen reconnects with her childhood best friend-turned-crush, Dev.

Gwen and Dev’s relationship is certainly not the main focus of the book, but it doesn’t make it any less special.

I loved that we were able to watch Gwen grow and discover what truly makes her happy as she figures out how to break free from reliving the same day over and over.

A dysfunctional family that grows closer, a second-chance romance, and a Christmas setting make for a perfect holiday read!

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins/Harper 360 for the arc!

I was drawn by this cover and was excited to dive in. In practice, though, I struggled with the writing style. I did not finish the book. Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

I needed something to cheer me up after the days started getting shorter, and this book definitely helped.

After the worst Christmas Day ever for Gwen - dealing with her family’s reaction to her newly single life, her father accidentally giving her a vibrator, having her BIL be a complete jerk, walking in on her cousin sending dick pics, her sister causing a public spectacle about the fact that Gwen had trouble at her big law firm that her parents didn’t know about yet, Gwen wakes up the next day to find out…. It’s Christmas again??

Gwen figures that one of her family members made a wish because they had the sixpence in the Christmas pudding and she’s determined to make the wish come true in order to get out of living every day being Christmas. Along the way she learns a lot about her family members, but even more about herself and how to find love and happiness. This was a great book to start my holiday season.

This book is the Christmas version of Groundhogs Day. Gwen is stuck in the worst Christmas ever and she is trying to find her way back. From heartache, to new beaus, Gwen is able to grant wishes and get to reconnect with her family on her never ending Christmas journey.
This book was very Welsh. Coming from an American, I had to Google a lot of the foods they talked about in this book. However, I found the story very enjoyable. Gwen was able to succeed and get to know her family a little bit better before she was able to move on to Boxing Day. She was even able to start a relationship with her sister and even get a new boyfriend.
This book was four out of five stars for me.

The Christmas Wish was my first holiday book of the season and it gave all the Christmas feels! Gwen is heading home for Christmas where she is the default mediator for family feuds. This year her main focus is to avoid talking about her recent breakup and secret turmoil at work.

Gwen gets stuck in a Groundhog Day type time loop where she is stuck reliving Christmas Day. Filled with relatable family drama, she tries to rise above to figure out how to break the loop.

Throughout the loop, Gwen keeps running into her cute, high school crush turned heart surgeon, next door. But will he be there when December 26 finally comes?

Lindsey Kelk did a great job painting each character’s story, making the reader feel the dread that comes with reliving the same day over and over again. (Who would have thought reliving Christmas could get old?!) If you’re looking for a light, funny and super relatable Christmas read to start the holiday season, look no further.

FYI this book takes place in the UK some English differs from the US.

Thanks #netgalley and Harper Collins for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

What an adorable read! I once I got about 10-15% in, I couldn’t put it down and finished the rest in one day. I was a bit worried that the Groundhog Day concept would get a bit repetitive, but it didn’t! I loved the way that humor brought into this book. There were so many lines I found myself actually laughing out loud. I also appreciated how much depth there was in this book. Many parts of Gwen’s life I felt were relatable and I caught myself reflecting about my own life. As I got closer to finishing the book, I didn’t want it to end. The holidays are a time for family and the growth in Gwen and her family was heartwarming. I’d absolutely recommend this book to others.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for a copy of The Christmas Wish!

The Christmas Wish is a warm, cozy family-centric tale that follows Gwen who wakes up each morning seemingly repeating Christmas. Gwen finds out a lot about herself, and her family and also a little bit of love. It really was a charming, heartfelt Christmas story- but it wasn’t for me. It’s kind of book I would happily gift my great aunt, or my mother in law. Is it a romance? Not really. It’s women’s lit sadly mis-marketed. It was slow, without the pay off of slow-burn. If you’re looking for a cute holiday romance, where the actual romance is star, this isn’t for you. 2.5 ⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my unbiased review!

2.5⭐

This might be on me with the description of the book but when I'm looking for a Christmas romance, I actually want to read a Christmas romance.

This was a family drama with romance being backseat. I mean, you don't even get to know Dev enough to even feel any way about him. That's how little he is really in it.

It was a cute enough story but I felt like I could not have finished this book and been just fine without it. A lot of it was boring and when I thought the groundhog day concept sounded good, I felt like it didn't read too well. There were aspects in the repeated Christmas days that I enjoyed. Like all the special moments with different family members but otherwise, there wasn't a whole lot I really cared about past 30% of the book.

Thanks to Netgalley and Haper360 for an ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone. :)

Five shiny bright stars for The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk. One of the best books I have read this year.

A laugh out loud, heart squeezing, Christmas Ground Hog Day gem of a book set in Baslow in Derbyshire.

Gwen Baker’s life is a bit of a mess. She’s on leave from her job and newly single thanks to her cheating boyfriend. Gwen is heading home with her cousin Manny but she’s not looking forward to it. Gwen just wants to make it through the holidays.

As a result of the wish made on the sixpence hidden in the Christmas pudding, Gwen begins to experience Christmas on repeat. The events of each day that no one remembers except Gwen begin to teach her some pretty important lessons. The situations Gwen finds herself in are at times laugh out loud hysterical. There are other moments that are very touching.

Gwen’s dysfunctional family members are a story all their own. We could probably each relate to one of these family members.

The Christmas Wish is such a warm and hilarious story. The characters were just fantastic. I especially loved Gwen’s relationship with Manny and her Grandmother was a hoot.

A fantastic read blending family drama, memories of teenage love, heartache and finding your own happiness. This story will make you believe in the magic of the season. I can’t recommend this book enough.

A special thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the eARC I received in exchange for my honest opinion.

Wahhhhh! The feelings that this book gave me 🥺🥺

Love love love the family dynamic! It really brings on your own holiday memories. Christmas time is truly the best. Gwen was a fun character to follow but PLEASE provide us with a Manny background.
Pick this up for the season- seriously such a good read.

My only critique is that I think the repeat went on for a tad too long. Like maybe 2 less days would have been best.

A laugh-out-loud Christmas novel with a lot of heart that's sure to warm even the coldest ones!

I loved On a Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk so requesting this was pretty much automatic on my part. This proved to be another one of hers that had me cackling with laughter.

Gwen is feeling stuck at her work and life while everone around her just have their lives all figured and sorted out. Heck, even her lovelife's a mess. Add being stuck on Christmas re-living the same day over and over, what do you get? This Groundhound Day-esque escape where hilarity is bound to ensue.

Although I found this slapsticky at some parts, it still made me snort with laughter at others with Kelk's signature wit and self-deprecating humor. I loved how this book showed how most people would look fine and even happy on the surface but were dealing with each's own issues just beneath it. This is more about Gwen's journey to knowing what makes her truly happy, with the romance just being a side story. I found her experience putting in hours as a lawyer eerily and scarily similar with mine and hit kind of close to home.

A perfect holiday read so pick this one up once it's out on November 15, 2022.

Thank you to HarperCollins, NetGalley and the author for providing me my early copy. All opinions are honest and my own.

This book is the perfect start to the holiday season. A classic “groundhog day” scenario with Christmas tied in. I really appreciated that the family dynamic wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, and that while there were clearly good relationships between family members, there was also a lot of tension and stress. Honestly, it reminded me of my own family.

Gwen was the perfect MC and I loved the fact that we got insight into her relationship with each other supporting character in every chapter. Her relationship with Cerys was hard for me to read, but to see where they ended up after more than a few goes made it all worth it.

I also really enjoyed Dev as a character and that even though he wasn’t in the same time loop as Gwen, he continued seeking her out each new Christmas. I loved that he was also a safe space for her and we got to see her feelings reignite slowly over sometimes menial conversations.

My only wish for this Christmas is that I could reread The Christmas Wish for the first time again.

*Many thanks to the publisher for providing my review copy via NetGalley.*

A sparkling, sassy, fresh and fun Christmas romance! This is the first novel by Lindsey Kelk I’ve read, and it has prompted me to check out her backlist. In addition to offering a myriad of merry tropes, this Christmas-themed riff on Groundhog Day is witty, frequently even laugh out loud funny, heartwarming and downright clever. Loved the abundance of allusions to Christmas tunes and other pop culture references. Loved the relatable family scenarios. Loved this story! Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the complimentary ARC. Opinions are my own.

Christmas Day is Groundhogs day for Gwen as she keeps waking up to Christmas day. She gives each day a different approach to try to get to tomorrow! It's a cute, easy read.

A Groundhog Day Christmas story where Gwen Baker gets to repeat the day over and over much to her horror. This book was a cute, funny holiday story but it was light on the romance. Its focused more on the Baker family, their Christmas lunch where the conversation was hilarious and Gwen relationship with his Sister.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of stories with GroundHog Day antics as it is so repetitive, and I found myself skimming just to catch the minor variation from of the previous day. My Christmas wish is that this book had more romance, as it was labeled a romance novel.

Thank you Harper 360, HarperCollins for the complimentary copy of this e-book.

one line review: adorable, hilarious, entertaining..

Gwen is heading home for the holidays with her cousin Manny with one goal in mind: to make it through Christmas day with none of the spotlight on her. Her long term boyfriend recently cheated on her, she is on mandatory leave from her job and she can’t be in the same room as her sister without getting in an argument. To make matters worse, when her family’s Christmas dinner ends up going up in flames, Gwen finds herself stuck in a loop reliving the same day over and over Groundhog Day style. Determined to break this hell, Gwen decides to fulfill the Christmas wish of each of her family members and with that comes a cute holiday read about self-discovery, growth and love.

LOL MOMENT!
"Punting the pudding hadn't worked.
It was still Christmas Day."

So, why 4 stars? I found the pacing to be slow. It did drag in some places. Although this is a "romance", I found it more to be about the main character Gwen finding her place in her crazy world. The topics in this book: dysfunctional families, parental pressure, love, relationships, cheating, career struggles, workplace issues for women, etc. make this a super relatable read. I would prefer to have more love interest interaction.

Definitely would recommend to anything looking for a cute, holiday read!

Thank you to Netgalley and Lindsey Kelk for this advance read.

The Christmas Wish is a super cute holiday Groundhog Day book that, I will admit, I wasn’t really feeling at the beginning of the story. By the end, I absolutely loved all the characters and the lesson Gwen had to learn before she’d be released from reliving Christmas Day over and over.

The characters are absolutely amazing, even if many of them fit the stereotypes. Through the structure of the plot, every character has their moment to shine.

Gwen believes that her Hell of repeating Christmas stems from the family tradition of wishing on the six pence that is hidden in the Christmas pudding, so each day she wakes up on repeat, she seeks to find out what a different member of her family would wish for and then try to fulfill the wish.

Each of the nine times she re-lived Christmas Day, she had a different focus so events, conversations and interactions were different. Some of my favorite moments included visiting Chatsworth House, finding the fireworks in the dark pantry, and taking an evening swim. Those were fun and resulted in some days ending earlier than others. However, I think when pinpointing the moment where Gwen’s character development begins to shift is when she talks with Michael. That is the most pivotal moment and sets the rest of the book into motion.

The story is all about taking a step back to look at the life you are living vs the life that will make you happy; the one you actually want to live.

Seeing Gwen grow through her experiences with each family member was sweet and funny and heartwarming. It was what a holiday book is all about. I laughed and groaned and just enjoyed the quick read. It is definitely a book to put on your 2022 holiday reading TBR!

Thank you NetGalley and Harper360 for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This was surprisingly cute! I usually find the time loop trope annoying but this was actually super fun. I really liked Dev and Gwen they were super cute and I wish they spent more time together and they got to spend more time together because their misadventures were super cute and fun. I also loved Gwen's relationship with Manny and how she used her repeating Christmas to not only fix her romantic and job life but her relationship with her sister and parents. Overall this is a super fun romcom with a predictable but cute happily ever after and fun characters. It's a very cute fast Christmas read and I would recommend it's a little spicier than a typical hallmark but has strong hallmark vibes.
